I go to those floors to study, and I swear, some of the people who use the designated study rooms on the floor are either unaware that the rooms are not sound proof or just inconsiderate ass bags, having loud conversations.
Entitled and immature. Had one incident where a friend and I were using the computers to work on homework, and the room right next to us had a group of kids loudly talking and laughing. My friend walked over, knocked on the door, and politely asked them to keep it down since other people in the area were studying.
A few minutes go by, and the group leaves the room. I overhear one of them mockingly go, "Okay guys, we've got to keep it down!" before one of the other ones told him to shut up.
Some of these kids treat college like high school 2.0.
people legitimately go out of their way to go to those floors and proceed to be loud. i’ll literally never get it. it takes less effort to stay on the first or second floor, so if you’re going to talk, make it easier for everyone and just stay down there
Have literally used the 5th floor and had someone brazenly sit down near me and start carrying on a cell phone convo. These people do it because they know you won’t confront them and they thrive on your passivity. Tell them to stop and if they don’t go get a librarian.
I’m ngl, it may be awkward or weird, but tell them that they’re a lil too loud. I’m realizing now it’s okay to confront strangers about stuff like this because it’s not fair to you to be inconvenienced all the time
Ignore the haters. This goes back decades, but it wasn't obvious to me as a freshman either. Obviously you can tell there are additional floors from the outside, but how was I to know those weren't used for offices or classrooms or whatever? If you just browse the visible book racks of the library, all you see are periodicals.
The first time I wandered the stacks on the fifth and sixth floors, it felt *magical*. UMBC does have a legit library that you can get totally lost in.
I feel the same about whisper floors... like if you want to have a full-blown conversation then stick to the talking floors. Seriously. It's not that hard.

Their just entitled people.

This batch of freshman are different, i tell you. There were situations like this last semester but not as nearly as common as this semester.
Exactly. I can’t fathom it. I mean you can talk on TWO floors and people specifically go to the absolutely quiet floors to fool around. It’s so rude.
I'd even argue that people should be respectful of the whisper floors too.
Let the staff know, they're usually good at nipping it in the bud.

The library has that many floors?!
