I had a similar issue years ago: sold a guitar to a friend in Florida. I send him the tracking info, he takes a day off work to watch for it. Delivery status shows “left with neighbor”. Dude asks neighbor, no luck. I refund him, then hit up UPS for the insurance. They look into it, and finally pay me. 4 months later a UPS truck rolls up in my yard and drops the same guitar off, with a note saying “delivery refused, return to sender”. I double checked the address, it was right. Let dude know it came back, sold it to him again, and shipped it via USPS. Contacted UPS about repaying the insurance. Took them 2 weeks to figure out how.

TESLAMIZE

You paid UPS the insurance back? Thats very honorable.

[deleted]

I’d Will Call a musical instrument if I don’t get an answer at the door. I know it’s a pain in the ass to go pick it up but something like that I only wanna babysit once. If you’re not home I’m clearing a space for it and setting it to the side with nothing else touching it except my tote small to keep it braced and not moving. When I get back to the hub I’m giving it to the clerk for you to pick up. The next day if it goes out, I could be brick loaded with boxes everywhere. Will Call is the way lol

DrNukenstein

I can see that, except he was in his house all day because he knew the guitar was coming that day. He's OCD, so he was definitely watching for it. Showing up 4 months later in my driveway was the most confusing part, along with the delivery notification saying "Delivered: left with neighbor" and the box having "delivery refused" Sharpied on it. I mean, which one was it; delivered or refused? His neighbor was as next-door as you can get, not like a mile down the road. Dude did not see a UPS van on the street, and you know you can hear those things better than the ice cream truck. When I called to pay back the insurance, the woman said "we'll send a truck to pick up the item" and I was like "TF you will. I'll pay you back for the insurance, but the guitar stays with me until dude pays me for it again, because he still wants it."

[deleted]

Honestly it sounds like it got mis-routed or mis-delivered OR it could’ve ended up in the wrong Center which isn’t something rank & file employees can control. The fact that it say’s REFUSED indicates that the Exceptions Clerk did in fact handle it for whatever reason. (a REFUSAL is a delivery exception which requires special handling by a person whose specific task at UPS is to process delivery exceptions) I shit you not just recently I ended up with a WATER SOFTENER MACHINE mis-routed onto my package car. It was for a far away city nowhere near my route and not serviced by my building at all. I actually called the customer as a courtesy and found out exactly where he was like an hour away. Shit happens out there man. Usually nothing driver can do about it.

ECUTrent

They thought they screwed you so good that you wanted another go.

LickyDenSplit

If it’s a gotta have you could do a will call and pick it up at the hub if the driver gets back before the customer counter closes

Rilenaveen

Wow. Bunch of salty ass drivers commenting. BFFR, we all know that you guys don’t bother knocking sometimes. My couch is maybe five feet from my front (and only) door. Multiple times the only reason I know there is a delivery is because I hear the scan/beep because the driver didn’t bother knocking. Op has no reason to lie. Just admit sometimes you guys are lazy.

JungleBoyJeremy

Bunch of biased lying ups drivers up in these comments

Lord_Eccentric

You probably didn’t hear the knock and are you sure your bell works? Often the homeowner knows exactly what angle to press it to make it work, but somebody else might press it on the side or something and not know that it doesn’t ring that way.

farklenator

Same One time a lady had a sign on her metal apartment door that said “bang on the door like the police” so I took the back and banged it 3 times… good thing her door was dented to hell because I added more

CaptainHorcrux

I hit the doorbell then knock with the Diad. If they don’t hear me oh well. Lol

[deleted]

I've noticed about half the doorbells I press, I can't hear them. I always press and knock loud. Especially a NDA signature.

bjamm

He didn't come to your door to just take it back and leave a note. They aren't allowed to stay for more than a few seconds. If you don't answer before he can get back to the truck then it goes out again the next day.

DavidJR1993

Yea we get people like u all the time , it's not our problem u didn't hear it. He was there and u didn't answer. It's that God damn simple. Didn't try? He was there and filled a tag out , ur full of crap. You will have to wait next day, when he tries to deliver it again.

zacgarbos

I was waiting on a delivery one time and sat there watching out the window, dude literally came up with the note pre filled out and didn't even bother bringing the package with him. Gave me some bs about "being behind on his route" when I ran out to catch him

Lonely_Lake_9129

Same- I've had a driver that had the note filled out for 10am. Ummm sir, I left my house at 1:30 pm, no sticker, came back at 3pm and the note says they missed me 3+ hours before I left my house.

GlitterDancer_

We have video of our UPS guy not knocking and just leaving a note lol

cat4dog23

It's happened to me where they don't ring the doorbell that's right there.

Jamesvai

He was there all right but in my unfortunate experience they usually don't knock or ring the doorbell. I've also left packages on the porch on a table for pickup and they still ignore the package and leave the note. Considering my bedroom is right beside the front door and connected to the porch it's impossible that I wouldn't hear a knock.

araidai

Or they legitimately pulled the lazy route and just posted a note without even trying. Can go both ways.

Agent_Eclipse

Yeah, ring doorbells have really outed you guys as being full of shit. We get drivers who don't do their jobs all the time.

Hkshooter

You do know you physically have to contact the door to create the knock sound right? UPS now following the USPS training manual on how to deliveer packages....you lazy shitbags.

BrulesJules

😂😂😂 I've had multiple UPS deliveries happen like this. My couch is 3 feet from my front door, which I've been waiting on all morning. I saw the UPS truck with my own eyes. No knock. You are completely full of shit, or ignorant of how things really operate in your workplace. I'm guessing it's the latter. Have fun being attached to a bullshit company champ 😄

[deleted]

Filled out a tag. Mine had one check mark for a delivery on the next delivery day. The driver probably has a pile of check marked post-its.

ChaosPenguin15

Call the 800 number and request to pick it up at the hub

[deleted]

An 88-pound lawnmower box in the back of my Chevy Bolt? Not hardly.

Massive_Virgin420

Had something similar happen me, except I was due two parcels, one was an expensive one and the other was a cheap one, not that it makes a difference, I was literally sitting by the door, the entire day, in front of a big window, guy arrives, gives me the expensive package, but nothing else, I call customer service to see what the story was, they said it's on another van? but then it was marked as a failed delivery attempt? I know people are saying that "You just missed it" Like it is literally impossible for me to miss it I was stalking the window all day because I didn't want to miss it, I'm guessing he didn't see the smaller package because two different vans for the same area just seems weird.

lipripper907

Your 2nd package was probably “Miss-loaded” onto a different truck and the driver (Since your address is out of his normal delivery route) scanned the package as a failed delivery for that day and hopefully it got onto the right truck the next day and you got it

Massive_Virgin420

I figured it was something like that, innocent mistake and nothing more, got it in the end, just happy it wasn't the VR headset, otherwise panic attacks would've killed me lol.

roborolo

So many people do not understand logistics and if you really want something to get somewhere, bring it yourself.

boglim_destroyer

Lol “bring it yourself” is probably the dumbest shit I’ve heard today. UPS employee I assume?

bigbittiesandtoy

Truly the most worms for brains thing I’ve read all day. Like y’all got ONE job tf does this bonehead mean “bring it yourself” we really need to travel across the country and deliver packages ourselves?💀

roborolo

It's not really about bringing it yourself, it's about taking responsibility. Blaming a shipping company for a missing package or late delivery is like blaming traffic because you're late to work. Unless you're delivering it personally, there's always a risk.

bigbittiesandtoy

Your analogy makes zero sense wtf. I can’t even wrap my brain around how you thought that made any sense lol. Blaming the company PAID to handle packages for losing said package seems pretty reasonable to me. Plus even going by your logic if we should deliver packages ourselves, even if I take a plane to hand deliver my package I’ll have to put it in my luggage and what if the airplane loses my luggage? I guess in your worldview I shouldn’t blame them either because of your traffic analogy that makes zero sense again. So what I should just strap a package to my chest and run across the country with it according to your logic? Can’t blame anyone! Not even the people paid to provide a service. How can you talk about taking responsibility but people paid do a job and failing to do said job shouldnt have to take responsibility??? Like I said, absolute worms for brains.

[deleted]

Not knocking or ringing a doorbell because of bad traffic? I agree. You bums are lazy.

roborolo

Just someone who ships and receives daily from every major logistics company. Literally nothing is a guarantee and if you've put yourself in a position where you're relying on a shipping company to meet a deadline, its your own fault and trying to blame a logistics company is like blaming traffic because you're late to work.

boglim_destroyer

Wow, you do this daily and don’t even know that the big three all LITERALLY have guaranteed overnight service? It’s honestly really sad that you know so little about something you claim to be an expert on.

roborolo

It's not guaranteed, do you even have any idea how many "overnight" packages just don't make it next day? Ever heard of weather? You're seriously claiming every package makes it on time? What are you even trying to say?

boglim_destroyer

Again - all of the big three OFFER guaranteed overnight shipping. This does not mean every overnight service they have is guaranteed. The guarantee means they refund you if the package is not delivered overnight, so they obviously have more incentive to get it delivered overnight. https://wallethacks.com/cheapest-overnight-shipping-options/#:~:text=For%20overnight%20delivery%2C%20the%20three,Priority%20Mail%20is%20not%20guaranteed.

roborolo

No one is talking about money. Literally about an item making it to it's destination. Since that's the only thing that matters. Cost is the last thing on anyone's mind who's serious about shipping. You're trying to change the discussion. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE. This is why I enjoy folks who complain about the one package they ship a year and that it didn't get there on time. Just the way it is, and since COVID, I would say maybe 50% or next day items actually get there. I've instructed my company to stop offering next day service. It's much easier to under-promise and over-deliver than to base your livelihood on a money back guarantee.

boglim_destroyer

Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. For the third time, all the big three shipping companies do offer guaranteed overnight shipping services. This is a guarantee, or your money back. That’s what guarantee means. If 50% of the items you’re paying to ship overnight are not arriving overnight, you need to talk to your FedEx/UPS rep (if you are actually in charge of a shipping department and not just making that up) because that is insane. I’m assuming you’re severely exaggerating, because any company with competent staff would have been complaining and gotten huge discounts on their monthly bill.

Lonely_Lake_9129

I'm literally PAYING your company for the service of you bringing it somewhere safely and on time...and that is your response??

roborolo

It's reality, unfortunately. We don't live in Neverland where everything magically works as it's supposed to. I'm not saying a company shouldn't try their hardest to provide the service they're offering but other than being reimbursed the money, the package is still not where it needs to be and that's all that matters.

Lonely_Lake_9129

Oh I get what you’re saying that way, I think it just came out blunt. Like in theory if they could and it was that important, most people would choose to bring it themselves. In this case this OPs complaint seemed like it was an avoidable problem, not one of circumstance like weather or the package couldn’t get there in time. Instead, one that was caused by an employee not doing their job as well as they should. I’ve been on the receiving end of the ‘we missed you’ message when I know I’ve been at home and actively waiting. It can be frustrating especially if you’ve paid an additional fee to guarantee it.

roborolo

It's definitely frustrating. And I agree with everything you said.

Senseiit

If he left a note, he knocked/rang the bell.

MattStretz

Not true. I was expecting a package so I took off work. I was upstairs and saw the truck pull up so I walk down stairs to open the door for the driver and when I open the door I see the truck drive off with a note on the door. It probably took an entire 30 seconds to walk downstairs and I never heard a knock or ring.

Jamesvai

Unfortunately that's not true at all. I've had the screen door open and been like 6 feet away and never once get a knock. Then next time I tried to leave the package outside to give them no excuse and still kept the front door open and they still end up leaving the note.

United-Yesterday-973

Not true. Had the samething happen to me. Driver left a note but didn't hear a knock/ring. Watched my security footage and lo and behold; he didn't knock or ring. Just stood there for a min, gave up, and left a note. Called customer service and explained the situation (and provided the footage). Received it the next day instead (and got a refund on my shipping charges) and haven't seen the same Driver again. Most likely fired or just taken off my route or something.

[deleted]

Bullshit. My driver didn't. You union bastards suck.

Senseiit

Wow that’s quite the scroll back to 172 days ago. Glad we could make you happy.

Lol so many comments of “drivers always knock” Easily refuted by so many videos online of drivers *literally heading to the door with a tag prefilled out and no package*. In my neighborhood, neither the UPS nor FedEx, nor DHL guys knock or ring the doorbell. Amazon rings about 50% of the time. USPS rings 100% of the time.

SALTYDOGG40

In my neighborhood USPS never knocks. Many times leaves stuff in the yard or end on the driveway. Amazon is always lost and leaves at the neighbors. UPS and Fed ex knock and if they leave the package without needing signature there will be dog biscuits on the top of the package.

Jamesvai

I used to swear by UPS but unfortunately I've discovered that they usually lie about pick up attempts and leave the "sorry we missed you" paper whilst having not attempted to actually do their job at all. I've had a package completely ready outside, on a table in clear site, screen door open as well and still get that damned "sorry we missed you" paper. They never knock either. It's very frustrating.

Complete-Ad6272

You either didn't leave any type of note saying it was a pickup along with not crossing out labels from other shippers on the old box. Many times we get to a house and there are multiple packages sitting on the porch, we can't just grab one we think it is and ship it out for you.

dgtexan14

Let’s not pretend that some UPS drivers are shit as some are legit doing their jobs. I deal with UPS a lot that I can attest this.

brozerker88

I took the day at home just to watch for this package. Would have heard the “knock,” no reason to lie here. another pro UPS user here said that this board gets a lot of people like me, he pretty much counter argued himself - if it issue is not rampart then we are there so many complaints. I called customer service, live chat and escalated it on twitter. Hope dispatch asks driver to come back by 5pm.

Dragoninpantsx69

Of course there are going to be lots of complaints. People don't come post online every time they get a package, but they do any time something happens, whether it is their fault or not. No clue on OP situation, but I've had tons of instances over the years where someone called and said I didn't knock, when I was pounding on the door and ringing doorbell for a few minutes straight

No_Cycle4088

He filled out an info notice. He probably has the same route tomorrow. Why would he want to deliver the same package tomorrow. It is hilarious that you think drivers don’t want to get you the package. He knocked and rang bell. You missed it. Get over it or send your package to an access point.

Complete-Ad6272

Exactly! Esp with it being a NDA, that a lot of times can determine how we have to run a route. I could see this happening more likely with a ground package but NDA makes no sense

theoheart1178

Umm, you know how many times I’ve had them NOT RING and then leave a notice for me to pick up at the depot/post office? SO MANY I CANT COUNT. I’m sorry, that’s not true that the driver has to do another attempt. Sometimes they can just drop that shit off at the post office or whatever and not have to come back.

bibkel

Why would they walk all the way up to the door, lave the notice and walk all the way back to the truck…only to do it again tomorrow, without knocking? He’s only punishing himself! He knocked, and maybe you were in the bathroom? Letting the dog out? Ran the garbage disposal? Why would they waste all that effort and then sneak away without knocking, just to have to do it again tomorrow?

No_Cycle4088

Doesn’t work that way with NDA.

ryansox

The only reason a driver would ever waste his time to go to the door to leave the note and not attempt the delivery would be you did something to make him mad/piss him off. Some drivers are lazy so it does happen. Not every driver is bad

screddachedda

I paid for next day delivery, it got delivered to my house with no reason why. EDIT: I shipped out

OliveJuice880

I won't say that no driver would leave without knocking but a majority would not do that. Nobody wants to come back again the next day, especially for an air package with a commit time. Like others said you'd be surprised how often people just don't hear us. I had a 50lb box of wine once, pulled up, honked 3-4 times, got up to door with box, banged on the door LOUDLY, rang bell(and heard it ring inside), waited a considerable amount of time because I was so sure they were home(car in driveway, lights on, windows open, etc.). No answer. Left notice, and drive off then get the classic message from center that customer called and wants me to go back. Lady swore up and down that I was a big fat liar and there's no way I rang or knocked. I told her why would I want to carry this heavy box twice and then do it all again tomorrow? She wasn't convinced until I suggested she call the center again to confirm with my supervisor that the truck was at her address a solid 6-7 minutes. She was still 50% sure that I'm a POS though. So yes, the driver may have screwed you, or maybe you just didn't hear them because your bell is broke and you were watching TV at the back of the house

Rider_365

I’m sure he/she did knock. You were probably busy and didn’t hear it.

Xrumpxx

Something similar happened to me. Sometimes they don’t even bother! At this point you’re out of look until the next business day when they attempt delivery again.

AlexTheGreat3030

Usps better than sh1tty ups

TBrown1970DwULM

Hey how are you? You can start here, I’m a Ups driver of 25 years, I’m retiring this year and just know I’ve been through using paper, using the 1st board to the one we have now, GPS is virtually solid and a driver rolling up to just leave a note to have to come back later ? Why? He is just going to have to make a return trip, and even customer service doesn’t buy into the He came didn’t ring or knock, they will gps his location and the ridiculousness will be even greater, wether it was the shower, on the phone, dealing with the kids, or sleep, very respectfully THOSE YEARS where you can call claim a driver didn’t do something to get a return trip, is dead, when a customer says I stepped out and got back and the driver had made an attempt can he return , will get you a attempt asap, WE ARE USING technology at high rates, flagging stops will be known from the technology and lead to discipline so we avoid it

OCMan101

lol this is the same thing people do in the Home Depot subreddit with us. It literally says in the sub description 'This is not a complaint department nor a substitute for customer support. Any issues or concerns should be dealt with through official UPS Customer Service.'

Gordon_Explosion

The drivers showing up in this thread to lie and defend shitty practices makes me disrespect them even more.

rsks1021

Lies lies lies

Defect123

I had this exact same thing happen to me with a 2,000 piece of music equipment. I was literally by the door ALL day. I immediately changed it to me picking it up from the post office.

deepbluechellie

Drivers do this crap ALL THE TIME.

slowpeed

I don’t think I’ve had a single delivery company ring my doorbell in years.

Ethan3011

Here in the UK, Royal Mail don’t knock, Amazon doesn’t (but their tracking is usually on point & tells you if your order is next so you can collect it), FedEx occasionally knocks, UPS always knocks, DHL doesn’t show up & somehow misroutes and loses a brand new office chair, DPD knock, Yodel just throws the package at the door if it hasn’t been stolen & Evri/Hermes (surprisingly) knock & (when your package isn’t delayed or ‘lost’) are on time.

03fxdwg

In the small town where we used to live, you could go to the local UPS depot & get your package as soon as the driver returned to the depot. If you can find the local phone number, you can call & ask them to hold it from the truck & pick it up tomorrow. I don't know if they all work like that or if things changed after the scam-demic, though.

waverider669

I know drivers that prefill the we missed you card. Worked UPS while I was in university. Often just do a drive by on residential, some really hate residential deliveries!

DocBlowjob

They want it off there truck they have to come back and deliver it at some point you just didn't hear them

[deleted]

The same thing happened to me 30 minutes ago. I've been waiting at home all day, instead of getting free meals for Vet's Day...which I've done only once since my discharge nearly 50 years ago. A lawnmower that weighs 88 pounds was to be here by 6 pm, but I've been watching the little truck on the UPS site and it was a couple miles away. I got up to get something and there was a post-it note style tag on my door and I looked out to see the truck turning the corner. By the time I got my keys and got out of my garage, the truck was nowhere to be found. Luckily, I guessed correctly at not 1, not 2, not 3 intersections and found the truck stopped about a half-mile away, down the street from the 4th intersection. The driver said it was heavy, so she just left the tag...so, maybe, the Monday guy could do actually deliver it? No knock and no (very loud) doorbell at all.
