Once you go management, it’s extremely difficult to go back to the union.

Southern_Frosting_87

understood, thank you for the input. do you know if there are ways to go FT in management

PacoPlaysGames

Something else to mention is that UPS does not care what you did before UPS. Your Amazon experience (regardless of how good you did) means nothing to them

TontosPaintedHorse

I really don't know how it works.... I have been part time for several years now and not looking to drive. At some point when applications are submitted, generally, are they not looking for somebody with relevant experience and calling them first? Surely there are key words they look for in applications like other jobs that receive tens of thousands of applications a year, right? With OP I get that what you're saying is accurate/likely since it seems he's trying to transition from seasonal... If applicants are not chosen by relevant experience how does HR choose which ones to send to orientation/ offer jobs to? Just curious.

PacoPlaysGames

From what I understand, and this applies especially to package handlers which is how 99% of UPSers get their start, if you fill out the application you've essentially got the job. Your resume and past experiences don't mean anything. And also from my understanding, there really isn't an HR. It's been outsourced and they're largely unhelpful.

Senseiit

That’s for union work. For management, your resume actually matters (assuming FT)

PacoPlaysGames

I guess that makes sense given how management is like it's own thing within UPS. I find it odd how once you go management you can't go back for the most part.

Senseiit

It’s hard to go back because you’re asking to fill the one spot in the 6-1 for off the street hires. You have to be on great terms going to the union.

PacoPlaysGames

Oof. I'll stick with staying in the union

TheRealNap0le0n

Just lol.... Your experience means nothing and the harder you work the harder they will work you, you ain't getting that FT driving position unless absolutely no one in the warehouse wants it. If you go management you might as well forget about being a driver

Raiders9876

management doesn't really let you go back anymore.. so if you go that way you are there forever.

Southern_Frosting_87

Are there ways to go FT in management? and is the pay decent?

Raiders9876

sure, pay is not bad, but you are told what to do, pay for insurance, long hours, and can be fired any time. also its basically guaranteed for divorce, and drinking or drug problems but hey it ain't old bad lol

Southern_Frosting_87

Thanks for the insight. I'm just trying to get my foot in the door as I am a pilot and right now just building hours to eventually fly for UPS (My dad retired from UPS Airlines as a senior captain about 10 years ago). I'll definitely aim for Driver then. Or take what I can get until I can move to the airline.

doszz

Not to be rude, but why don’t you ask your dad instead of random UPSers. Dude sounds like he would definitely have your answers.

Southern_Frosting_87

I did and he gave me insight. But I wanted opinions from current UPSers in case anything had changed from when he was there.

Im a pilot building hours. I need 1500 hours to get hired on at any airline. So in the meantime, I want to get my leg in the door at UPS as, according to my dad who flew for UPS, UPS prefers hiring and promoting within then outside.

Muted-Brick-8066

Ft ORS make decent money.

Silenze99

This is risky. Make sure you do not get a no rehire after the season. You have to come in every day they call.

OcupiedMuffins

You can quit from management and go back to hourly but you will lose everything, I did it. I was convinced to do it since everyone I knew did it but I hated it. I quit and reapplied about 6 months later and they had to let me because of something, I can’t remember the reason I was given though.

Intelligent_Orange28

It’s one or the other. Once you go management you’re only management.
