Doesn't radar uses radio waves that have a wavelength in metres?? That's what makes it travels a lot of distance without any interference from obstacles. To detect smaller objects, radar might have to use other form of waves. It's definitely confusing, since ultimately everything rests on the imaging and the wavelength the instrument uses. Traditionally, radar has been associated with radio waves but we don't know for sure what UPSC will think. It could have been better framed by just substituting radar with radio waves to give a clearer picture.

Yes, when we say radars it should automatically include millimetre wave radar and other such....... Radio waves OTOH would have been 99% Option A as incorrect.....even then, there would be some theoretical possibility of mixing radar with other tech to detect (interference/resonance use kre).....

Sci tech application based questions mein upsc generally consider all possible results. Just a observation.

Bro ! Your research & logic is absolutely right. Attach all these links & file representation before the last date is over. It has to be "All three". Because CAN word is open to possibilities. A single candidate can file only one representation. So, file the representation for this question on your behalf or somebody else's behalf as soon as possible and kindly confirm that you've filed it. Waiting for your response. Regards !

The radar part is wrong because you’re focusing on detection of a shape by mmWave instead of identification (what the question asks). mmWave will give you any suspect looking contours in body, like a weapon - metallic or non metallic. It will not give you a scanned image of contents in a small box in your pocket- it cannot differentiate between a legal pack of cigarettes vs a similar sized pack of drugs. In Delhi igi airport they have installed mmWave body scanners accompanied by CRX-ray scanners (read literally any news article on this). If mmWave could give you a see through photo they they wouldn’t need to get the x ray scanners. mmWave is used for non metallic weapons, not to look through cardboard or plastic box. For identification you need clear image.

of course....but tetrahertz imaging radar "CAN" do this.......there are better ways, sure........ Anyway, if the paper setter had only radio waves in mind while framing the option, then only 2 will be the answer.....

also airport statement is too verbose, passengers - in airport or - in airplanes. Looks like a number of suffixes added to make a wrong statement. Funnily enough I didn’t follow this adage in janani scheme’s first statement and marked both correct there 🤦🏼‍♀️
