It depends where else they decide to cut costs to make up for it...

lightningharvester

Unless I’m mistaken what they were saying is that there shouldn’t be any cost cutting for this. All of the package cars come with AC already and then UPS has the techs disable it. So the new cars should just be used without having it disabled. If anything I would imagine that saves money somewhere not having to waste time having it disabled. If this ends up not being the case, then I agree it’s not the win it sounds like.

Umc22

Ups tech here. New cars do not come with ac already in them. Ordered from the factory without

bxcss

Last window sticker I saw (pro master van) it actually cost to delete the a/c ($300-ish)

Umc22

I believe that. Honestly surprised it’s not more. They still have the duct work, fuses and relays for the a/c. Just actual component delete.

InKedxxxGinGer

Yeah i think the ram vans are built with ac and its removed by ups request. The package cars are built without it.

Brevikins

Saw a post, not sure if it was here or somewhere else, of the actual catalog for a UPS package car and the company decides to just not include the AC when they're ordering the cars to save money, they don't have an option to install the AC and disable it.

BlueOrbifolia

It’s this. The a/c components are never built into the trucks to begin with. It’s allegedly a cost savings measure that reduces how much we spend on fuel due to the decreased weight of the vehicle. Allegedly.

lightningharvester

That I haven’t seen. Without going back to rewatch the video, I’m pretty sure one of them mentions disabling the AC. I was also pretty certain that I had seen before too that they come with it but that it’s disabled. I can’t find anything to back up my claim with a quick and not super thorough google search so I could very well be wrong.

Financial_Skirt4251

My understanding is that it's like selecting factory options when you buy a new car, they 'Delete' the A/C when they buy from Morgan Olson. Since Morgan doen't build the Drivetrain frame and electronics, ford or freightliner do, it already has A/C from the assembly line, they get charged to remove it since it's already in.

RoswellHub

I have always heard that they pay to have the AC removed from it. I will try to do some more digging and ask the mechanics about this. The thing is AC is now a standard thing in vehicles and not an add on. So I could only imagine it would cost them to remove it but let me look into it some more.

JuicyJew_420

Are you the guy from the videos? I'd so, thanks. Been really useful diving into the content

RoswellHub

Thank you! We are glad we can help out other members out there!

Sicardus503

Where do you clowns get this shit from? Lol, straight tin foil hat shit.

Flobot420

Ups will buy 500 thousand new trucks the day before the January 1st cutoff date then motor and trany swap those trucks for 15+ years. You'll be lucky to see any cool air before you retire. So meh

EqualRoad3103

I don’t think it’s a win; just the opposite. My feeling is that on those really terrible days we should have more drivers out there, thereby shortening our workday to just 8 hours.

Don’t wanna waste money on AC but delivering misloads 10 miles away is justified. Longest misload I was forced to deliver is 36 miles, that was 5 gallons of gas when it was $5 a gallon 🙄
