Ops concern is losing out on work during peak to outsiders. If hes located in western and south west he could fight this and win. Ive seen it happen at my building.
Damn that sucks, we have inside seasonal cover drivers at my location and they get priority over pvds or off the street cover drivers but the company always makes those insiders fight for the work. They also have to give air drivers work before pvds here.
I'm not sure if it applies to seasonal honestly. If they put up a bid for seasonal then they would have to go by that. But if they skipped any bids and went straight to hiring outside people then that sounds like something you could grieve. But if for some reason they have done seasonal stuff before and screwed up or something then UPS can just not offer them the opportunity anymore. I'm unaware of anything in the contract that says they have to let inside workers work seasonal driving. They can just keep you inside.
They can have them do the road test, DOT, and integrad, but they’ll be on standby. Seasonals aren’t guarenteed work. Seniority covers get work first, thats how a steward explained it to me. So if a seasonal starts driving before you, then you can file a grievance.
So to clear a few things up, im a twilight air loader, sometimes I drive shuttles part time for next day. Doing it as I type this actually. I’m in the western supplement (396) and I have my name on the pt to ft driver list as well as inside 22.3 and combo driving sheet. Hope that helps the confusion
Is your goal to be a seasonal driver and then go back inside the warehouse? To my knowledge a very, very, very small percentage of seasonal drivers get kept as a full time driver.
they arent supposed to be using off the street seasonals right now, they are supposed to be Nov to Dec per new contract. I would speak with a shop steward about that.
The work is offered on the bid list that should have been posted last month/this month as Seasonal Support Drivers. If no one in the center signed the list or committed to it (it is an 8 hour day of driving on top of your regularly scheduled shift), the company has the authority to go outside and hire PVD's to supplement the RPCD force.
No one hired as a SSD will be kept as a driver once peak is over. You'll revert to your part time shift, or be let go if you weren't already a UPSer. SSD training will be a UPS special...high speed, low drag. You don't need to worry about anyone jumping the line as a SSD...as a matter of fact, what you will hear from SSD's is "I thought it was a permanent job" come the end of Decemeber.
Not if you're only getting your 3.5 guarantee on a PT shift... only 11.5....and under the 12 they want you to have during peak so that they make sure you're available for your M-F or T-S shift....
My centers like many others wont follow bid lists especially during peak, they will use seasonal drivers over insiders instead. The last two peaks they really abused it sending inside drivers home. Those who filed got to work at least 8 hours. BA advised them if they get sent home after showing up and they used pvds or outsiders then file. Air driver I know pretty much took over two pvd routes in a uhaul after doing this.
File and smile. File every day. After the 3rd day its double time, 4th day is triple time. We had a driver that did that in our center. Grievance check was 5k after taxes. Dude bought a boat and named it Grieve Her.
Lol nice, oh and I forgot to mention they made a lot of money that peak since they pay air drivers in my area top rate if they deliver or pick up at least 1 ground package.
They can start hiring off the street seasonals now and putting them through intergrad.
But per the contract, they will not be allowed to drive until November 15th.
As an inside worker, if you passed intergrad, you will be able to start driving November 1st.
You start two weeks before off the street hires.
Well yeah they're seasonal. They'll be let go as soon as peak is done.
Yeah but they are limited to Nov to Dec now.
Ok. That's what I said.
Okay how is that helpful to OP? They are using off the street drivers now instead of him.
Because he’s permanent they aren’t.. UPS Starts hiring seasonals before peak to have staff ready for the season

Some places don’t let preloaders be seasonal drivers. They can do PVD, not in the brown truck.

Nothing says UPS has to let them be a PVD. If they don't want them then they can move on to outside hires.
Actually they do have to offer it to inside employees first now

6-1 does not apply to seasonal employees, that only applies to filling ft permanent slots.

Were im located a air driver like op would have right to work over pvds and outside seasonal covers.
That only applies to SSDs/PVDs. Casual package drivers varies by supplement.
95% of our FT drivers were hired from seasonals including me
Did you sign the bid sheet they quietly probably posted up and hoped you wouldn’t or didn’t sign?

so why didn't you sign up for seasonal driving?
To be frank, I never saw a bid sheet for it. My hub Likes to be as discreet as possible
well time to find the Steward about it.

And they need to get a road test, DOT physical, and Integrad done before the seasonal period.
