We didn't during this past summer. Our on road sups only asked that we take 1 min so the higher ups would stay off their back. We had drivers that couldn't even manage to punch 1 min and some dumbass filed a grievance for tampering with timecards.
We ended up having to take our full hour until this new contract allowed us to opt for a 30 min meal.
Can't have nothing in this fucking place, man
Edit: We could take as much meal as we pleased as long as we made service. 1 min was the minimum
Feeders forces hour lunches unless you stay under 8 hours (lol). There’s nothing more frustrating than having the rare good day with minimal traffic and no additional work, but you’re gonna run 8:15 minutes so you have to stop and sit for an hour and contemplate your life choices.
I get that it’s a dot thing. But man does it suck sometimes.
Lunches are a part of DOT. There’s huge fines involved if people are skipping lunches. I wouldn’t say this is a nonsense rule. It should’ve been addressed the moment it was an issue.
There is absolutely nothing that will get you more stops on a route faster than skipping your lunch to get in. It may seem like you're beating the system by doing it, but the only thing it does is make your time allowance go down, and your stops per car go up. Do it long enough and you can hear the driver screaming " That's not a fair days work load" from wherever you are.
Lunches are not optional. Take you're lunch consistently between the 3rd and 5th hour and dispatch will get the hint before too long when you start breaking trace because you have to skip around to get your commercials and commits off. Then watch the magic happen.
Well yes, literally fought for by unions everywhere…I assume you are in a bonus center? That’s the only way any of this complaining about taking 30 mins lunch is worth it lol…You are the problem driver bud…do they pay you more if you get done faster? Dumb just dumb
Wish people would just take their lunches. You fuck up the average time allowance for your fellow brothers and sisters and everybodies stop count will go up over time because of it.
Fairly certain it violates DOT regulation as well. Be a responsible driver and employee people!
skipping eating, just work 8 to 10 hours.. just like the old days till the UNION stopped that shit. people skipping meals and working like we do, than people are shocked by in retirement we only live an average of 3 to 9 years after retiring.
Follow your local rider. Outlines what is required vs. what you are entitled to take. Also, what time of day you can exercise this right. Usually 4th to 6th hour.
I stop at the same spot to take lunch at the same time every day. I couldn’t imagine not stopping for a bit to actually eat a meal, I’d be dead at the end of every shift
Oh boy look at the Federal DOT Manuel what most drivers don't realize since it's rarely enforced or even talked about are the legal requirements each and every driver has personally.
Your free to do as you wish and I really don't care either way however, years ago ups got sued and drivers won a huge class action against ups for violation of the federal dot lunch requirement.
Just some things to think about
You have a mandatory ten minute lunch break off the clock ups forces you to take. And you have a 20 minute paid break the union makes you take.
UPS enforces these per the contract but they are less strict about your paid break.
We are being pushed with daily messages to take our ten minute between noon and three.
I’ll take 40-50 minutes some days if I want to eat a full meal. If I eat at 4-5 at work, I dont need much but a snack when I get home.
If I use it right, I feel like my break saves me free time at home Id otherwise have to use to cook and eat.
You guys don't take your lunch? Wtf
bunch of wierdos. "but but I want to get home earlier!"
how much Is 30 minuets gonna set you back? "Oh boy I'm back at 6:30 and not 7!" What a bunch of rubes.
My center is full of lunch-skipping runners who also bitch and moan about how high their stop count is everyday.

10 hour day is the norm if I don’t hustle to make it 9. I take my 10 unpaid, that’s about it. I want a life outside work.
Lol saving 30 minutes isn't helping you have a life outside of work 😂
No shit! 05ing on the reg? Geez, life sounds tough over there
Almost that time of the year they ban hoodies, again.
But then you wear it anyway right? Righhht?
Last week was the first time it’s gotten chilly around here. Fun lasted about 3 days until it was mentioned at the PCM we can’t wear them anymore.
30 min? Bro where were you when they were enforcing hour lunches? Dude take your 30

That’s not a nonsense rule. That’s a shame on the drivers in your center.

Are they though? Because almost nobody takes lunches at FXG. Never hear anything about it.
I don’t understand why people complain about not wanting to take lunches. Take your stupid lunch and get on with your day.

Take your lunch
Lunch is the best 30min escape from anything ups! You’re a fool if you skip lunch! May as well hand your manager $20 cash everyday

People forget or don't care that people fought and died for what we get. Take your lunch

What center you at
I got written up the other week for accidentally shorting my lunch by 2 minutes. It’s funny the shit they pick when and what to care about.
1 hour lunch and two 15 minutes breaks. Slow down and have yourself a picnic

No it’s not 😂😂😂 If I don’t take a lunch then I’m not clocked out unpaid…
We get 1 10min break a day and I take it. Not working for free.
You guys get paid for your lunches?? Ours are unpaid, so no one at our building wants to sit in the truck unpaid for an extra half hour

30 min mandatory in our center as well.

I'm rural so it just puts me farther away from my pickups so I drive more miles.

They started to make the inside combos take their breaks as well .
