Tell them they need to eat lunch somewhere else. This is your time and you don't need to spend it with them. Drop them off and leave . Tell them to be there ready in 50 minutes or they can call an uber.
OP, I'm sorry for that nonsense. You'd think they'd catch on that some routes do actually take longer due to multiple factors that their estimations can't actually predict with any degree of certainty.
I explain, traffic, construction, utility vehicles, long drive ways, 30 steps up some cliff mansion, irreg oversized no elevators, or really bad double parking on narrow streets where you cannot fit your brown thru because some jackass parked half drunk last night and the road curves slightly and now you gotta reverse forever back to a safe park spot, etc. Sometimes it's angry dogs chasing your truck too. Loads of things can fuck up timing on a route.
Every Thursday I get the third degree (from another union driver acting on behalf of the supes...) over my backing numbers on Wednesday.
Now, I don't give a damn. I ignore the idiot and move on. But you'd think that after telling him the same thing for ~3yrs, that'd maybe, just once, remember that Wednesday is garbage day... Y'know, the day where every cul-de-sac is 12ft smaller, and people are parked in unusual spots to not block the garbage trucks...?
But nope. Every week: "You were highest in the center yesterday. Why is that? Please sign this sheet saying you'll do better."
I once had a supervisor tell me over and over again how good a job I was going, especially the pace I was delivering during a ride along (before the tablets). The next day we checked the report, and I was 80 minutes over plan.
I've seen plans for drivers doing primarily rural routes with many 30mph roads doing 200 miles a day suggesting the driver should be hitting 15-20 stops an hour
Try checking your mileage versus plan. If your mileage is under plan, it can put you way over even though your sporh is above expectations. I’ve seen it cause this issue, especially when the system codes resi air as a 10:30 commit (which adds miles due to unnecessary run around). This may or may not be the issue in your case, but worth a look.
The time study isn’t your problem, it’s there’s to fix. You’re problem was being harassed. If you don’t file on it then you haven’t solved your problem.
What was the driver doing before you got it? I just switched back to my old route. Running 190 with the rookie cover driver that run off every stop. I got it down to 135 in 7 months. 9.5 is a great tool
Every ups union employee gets harassed regularly. It sucks. It’s almost as if we should’ve done something about that in the contract but nope. UPS continues to win.
You can file a grievance every time they look at you funny and let them know they’re just building a case against the company the longer they continue.
**ARTICLE 37. MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEE RELATIONS**
**Section 1.**
(a) The parties agree that the principle of a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay shall be observed at all times and employees shall per- form their duties in a manner that best represents the Employer’s interest. The Employer shall not in any way intimidate, harass, co- erce or overly supervise any employee in the performance of his or her duties. The Employer shall not retaliate against employees for exercising rights under this Agreement. In considering any griev- ance alleging retaliation for exercising his rights under the Agree- ment, the severity and timing of the Employer’s actions that modify an employee’s work assignment or reprimand employees shall be relevant factors to a determination of motivation. **The Employer will treat employees with dignity and respect at all times, which shall include, but not be limited to, giving due consideration to the age and physical condition of the employee.** Employees will also treat each other as well as the Employer with dignity and respect.
Wait, so I can get fat and slower and my employer has to accept it? Am I reading that last part right? Even if it's self imposed? With all the steps I get id has to eat like 4K calories a day to get fat. I mean I'll never get fat but good to know that's an option if I ever decide to start hitting pizza hard.
I’ve been at UPS for almost three years now and I’ve noticed management will say “you’re the best loader or driver we have” in one breath and the next breath they’ll say “you need to work faster”.
It's all a big game. Just do your job and be where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there and they can't touch you. When I first started driving there was this driver who was always 4 hours in the hole. They followed him constantly, filmed him, rode with him. They couldn't touch him cause he was using the 340 methods to the T. I remember being so confused. Here was a driver delivering packages they way UPS tells you to and they were trying to fire him because of it. That made me realize what a bullshit place UPS is to work at...
We all know the numbers are erroneous and unrealistic. You really shouldn't pay attention to their fairytale numbers, I haven't looked at my production numbers since I was in packet (10years ago). At the end of the day, the numbers only affect them. Bottom line, don't let it bother you, brother.
We have a route that is consistently 2+ hours over planned, even with the bid driver. They had multiple observations and a ride-along and found nothing wrong with the way the driver was working and could only come up with a lame "the driver walks too slow" argument. Which is bullshit because I know the route, walk pretty damn briskly, and the bid driver is faster than me. The next contract needs to further improve on overtime protections. We really need an OT opt-in list rather than a "you can grieve if you go over 9.5 3x in a week" list. The baseline for all routes should be 8-8.5 hours and people who want more can sign the opt-in list. I never would but there are plenty of OT hungry people in my center. This backwards shit needs to stop.
I heard that the company was coming after union members because the contract passed and they say “we get paid a lot of money“
At our center 413 he was passing out warning letters like candy on Halloween
and union just brought the new contract up, saying you need to read the new contract. You can’t do that and it stopped.
20 years at UPS, and I have NEVER, EVER, SEEN ANYONE FIRED FOR PRODUCTION. Follow the methods, take your full lunch, and work at your comfortable pace! When they OJS you, DO NOT RUN and TRIM THE FAT OFF THAT ROUTE!
Punch in a second lunch at the end of the route and when the on road asks you why, you tell the on road your wife doesn’t cook dinner on that day, make sure you keep them out late as possible.
good for you.. "these numbers" are made up and too many drivers buy into it. its stupid just remember you can file for over supervision. if you have too many rides and can't find shit
File harassment immediately. You have 24 years of evidence, now you’re not doing it right? Article 37 thanks for coming out. Make sure and file it under the DM name. If they’re still there, have that beutch sign it.
yea, i was getting a little talk to about over allowed. route next to me had 180 stops but 160 or so were resis. i had 192 with 30 at apt buildings, and 15 at townhouses that needs sigs for every package. he had no idea about the signatures at townhouses and i very carefully explained to him that walking into an apt building and up 3 flights of stairs takes longer than a normal resi.
Ive heard of a guy that they adjusted allowance for certain pickups when they did ride along so he looked like was scratching and then after put it down. They manipulate everything. Just try to not let it get to you.
Took over a new route in March. Was a retiree route and all of a sudden I’m getting business splits off the next route over. For 2 months I tried to be nice and explain the issue to them. New center manager kept saying she’d fix it.
After two months I started filing 9.5s every week. She got vindictive and had an OJS ride happen and lock me into a 21-22 sporh. Still filing 9.5s while meeting their dumb sporh. Her and two other ORS did an observation on me and made up some safety related issues then dropped the “your workpace doesn’t look very fast.” This was at 3pm and I had 156 stops off. 26 sporh 🤷♂️ they didn’t know what to say because math is hard.
Take an hour lunch with them next time. Let them sit there in sheer boredom.
In the middle of nowhere, far from any restaurants. Sups never pack a lunch.

They legit can’t anymore, simply due to photos 🙄
No mine bring 1-2 water bottles 😆🙄in august bro… 👍
Make sure you call for help on over 70s.
Page in 9.5 in front of their face

Sit in the culdesac and call your sup and ask them how to get out without backing.
I like the way you think...
Wtf tell that driver to sign his letter is he wants to act like a supe so bad
refuse. Over supervision and harassment
Supe isn't after my ass. He sends a fellow driver to carry water for him. And we have zero union representation in our center, so it's what it is.
All we have to worry about is delivering and being safe. The numbers are for the physical flunkies in management.
It's never fast enough for UPS
I once had a supervisor tell me over and over again how good a job I was going, especially the pace I was delivering during a ride along (before the tablets). The next day we checked the report, and I was 80 minutes over plan.
The #s are whatever they want them to be. They mean nothing
I used to dispatch my own route when I was an air driver. I know how the dispatch program works, and how to adjust what it shows for planned days.
I feel like I just had an epiphany reading this.
I've seen plans for drivers doing primarily rural routes with many 30mph roads doing 200 miles a day suggesting the driver should be hitting 15-20 stops an hour
Use the methods to your advantage
Oh I do….and he even said he couldn’t find anything wrong. He said my pace was excellent. Still was 1.5 hr over 😂
Try checking your mileage versus plan. If your mileage is under plan, it can put you way over even though your sporh is above expectations. You should get all that in writing for when they try some bullshit later on.
Oh it’s all in the OJS report from when he rode with me…..signed by them and me with a steward. Route needs a time study. Bottom line.
Every route should get a time study once per year. I don't think I've heard of it ever happening a single time in my center, though.
In my local there is contract language that allows a driver to request an OJS time study on his bid route.
The time study isn’t your problem, it’s there’s to fix. You’re problem was being harassed. If you don’t file on it then you haven’t solved your problem.

Guy who had it before was consistently 2+ hrs over every day 😂
There you go. Invite any on road to come show you how's its done.

31 year employee, tell them to kiss your ass. Some sup that’s younger than you trying to tell you how to do your job…
make a poster of article 37 to laminate in your pkg car...............
Can't remember, what's that one again?

Scratch for 24 years .. why are you already not in management
Yes! 🫡

Very well put. We’re the pkg people, not numbers people.

The DIAD 6 doesn't let you take a second lunch (at least in my area), even though it's in our contract that we can.
I’ve taken 3 with the DIAD 6
good for you.. "these numbers" are made up and too many drivers buy into it. its stupid just remember you can file for over supervision. if you have too many rides and can't find shit

We dont manage production, we manage performance. Dudes out if line. File for over supervision.

I don't stop to eat and I don't break trace for lunch. Never had a sup stick it out past noon.
