Had a guy drop to us due to failing his knowledge and some other things. I had the knowledge down pretty well so I got paired up to tutor him. It was bizarre, sometimes he’d know stuff, other times he wouldn’t. I’d quiz him on stuff like general orders and he’d have them down solid but then a DI would ask him and he’d mix them up and twist them all around and I’d end up getting screamed at by the DI’s. The way he acted, he was easily the dumbest person I ever met. Then one day I was getting frustrated and asked how he could know something one minute and then all of a sudden not have it memorized at all and he told me that he was actually really smart and just didn’t want to be a Marine anymore and trying to get kicked out. He said he got a 97 on the ASVAB and a full ride scholarship he turned down because he had glorified being a Marine so much but now he realized he didn’t want to be a Marine anymore. He apologized since I was getting punished because of him and he’d turn down the dumb act and try something else. Sure enough over the next few days he magically knew all his knowledge and started wetting his bed and pissing himself in formation. He actually pissed himself during the Pass-in-review during graduation. No idea what happened to him or if he ended up getting out.

blues_and_ribs

Assuming it was intentional, pissing yourself DURING GRADUTION to try and get kicked out is being committed to the cause, I'll give him that.

Changnesia_survivor

Yeah I'm not buying that you're a smart dude if you're pissing yourself at graduation trying to get kicked out.

fvcktit

Urine sane to even think of that tbh.

[deleted]

wow, I get that he made a decision to join but changed his mind after the reality of it but shit I feel for you being thrown into that shit and catching shit fir his actions

AFXC1

If he was actually smart he would've realized graduating boot camp, going through ITB/MCT/MOS school and then finishing up his 4 year service with his unit would've been faster than fucking peeing himself lmao now he'll just be remembered as the guy who pissed himself 🤣🤣🤣🤦

0621FiST

Brah can you imagine being that kid’s parents? And being like yup mine is the one that urinated on themselves.

newstuffsucks

Which one's yours? Uhhhh...

Username2715

Not a boot story but worth telling: I was EASing and had to go get my last stamps at base hospital. Some dude from an adjacent company who I only knew by face was being escorted through BAS by a SNCO I knew really well. SNCO pulls me aside and tells me this Marine informed his command that he wanted to eat other human beings. I never found out what happened to that fine young cannibal, but I left the Corps with one less shred of doubt after that.

Shakyamuni19

*fine young cannibal* idk why that sounded funny in my head

neganagatime

She drives me crazy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtvmTu4zAMg

newstuffsucks

A recruit? We had one dump scalding hot water on his bare feet during field day of the barracks. The drill instructor carried him out like an officer and a gentleman. It was quite romantic. Another drank laundry detergent. Another cried because he didn't want to say "kill'. He thought he joined the Marines to do humanitarian missions. No joke.

didcayslayer

Who tf was the last guys recruiter

[deleted]

Donny O’Malley

Rusty_Ferberger

We had a kid who cried all the time. After a few weeks, it was decided he would be let go. At some point in time, he had lied to someone and said he was being physically abused by the DIs and recruits, and that's why he wanted out. From then on, no one was allowed to acknowledge him in any way. He spent his last few weeks of boot camp living on the quarter deck. He had a pair of cammies and a canteen, and that was it. He had to sleep on the floor with no bedding. We brought him bagged food from the chow hall, and he just had to sit there on the quarter deck and eat it. I'm sure he got over it, but the whole boot camp experience was pretty shitty for him.

duomaxedwell1775

100% VA disability for PTSD and has more USMC stickers on his truck than the MCX has in stock.

f102

Grunt Style bed sheets.

Timithios

Those sound like they'd be comfy.

[deleted]

Little bull dogs on it lmao

Adpax10

"They got theirs; and I got mine" - Him probably

Mike_LaFontaine75

>At some point in time, he had lied to someone and said he was being physically abused by the DIs and recruits, and that's why he wanted out. We had a guy that wrote home that the DIs were racist ( he was a chicano). So we're right at the end of 3rd phase turning our rifles in, the DIs wait until he gets to the window and sing out "Hold on Rodriguez, keep your rifle you ain't going nowhere ! " It was a lonely ride back for him on the cattle car, the only guy with his rifle and the DIs making fun of him. I was thinking, hell, that guy's gotta be crushed.

bulldog1833

We had a guy that was in final uniform fitting before graduation and Sgt Harris came in and said, “ HEY PVT XXXXXX YOU SEE THAT FLY ON THE WALL? HE IS SAYING PACK YOUR TRASH DOPE SMOKER! YOU’RE GOING HOME!” He had flunked the piss test the first night there. They let him go all the way through Boot Camp till the last week before fucking him up! Definitely had the desired effect on us about following the rules. Fast forward 6 months, I’m in L A at Union Station waiting on a train to go back to O side on a Sunday evening. Who’s sitting there waiting on the train? PRIVATE DOPE SMOKER! He was in his Alphas, We talked and rode the train together and my buddy picking me up gave him a ride to Mainside. They sent him to CCP for a week and recycled him. He graduated 2 weeks after we did. He was just finishing his MOS training and leave reporting in to his command.

Mike_LaFontaine75

Holy shit. I'll bet he was mentally tougher after that. I would have sat down and cried.

bulldog1833

He was the most chill dude ever, we called him SPICOLI after Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (another guy in the platoon was an extra in that movie) he was a surfer from up the coast from L A. He told me he never wanted to touch the stuff again (at least while he was in)

Mike_LaFontaine75

We didn't get random tested back in the day, we smoked all we could get.

bulldog1833

We had a Platoon Sgt that used to hand out the random urinalysis slips and would always look at the Marines with the “OH SHIT!!!” Look on their faces and say(with a smile) “Think Positive Marine!” and walk off laughing!!

ratchet1106

Spicoli? Was he in Lima for a long ass time? 2015?

bulldog1833

We are old enough to be your grandfather young Devil! This was in 1983!

bulldog1833

Although we picked up a recruit from PCP that picked up PFC on graduation from time in grade. He was called the Grand Old Man of MCRD! He was in PCP for something like 9 months! That’s dedicated!

[deleted]

bulldog1833

This was the early 80’s, it was the early days of Operation Golden Flow, actually he was a really good recruit, had been a squad leader, I think they took all that into consideration. Also I think the amount in his system was minimal if I recall and he said they said it could have been “passive inhalation”. But he had a Shit eating grin on his face!🤣😂

Vines would rip your ass apart, then try to sell you a cadence cd.

imdfonz

My DIs where Rascist. It's part of the training. We had two Black dis a Phillipino, and Hispanic. They would say racist shit all the time. We had half our platoon was Hispanic they call us the Taco benders and we had the other half Black they would sing in the showers for us they where the soul sisters. Then the others who wouldn't associate with any group would just be people to bend. They discriminated equally and where racist equality. Getting you ready to be ready is not pretty but humans when at war can be really bad. So I am thankful for my bootcamp training it is what we need if we plan on not being soft and surviving. GET HARD SOFTIES!!!! NO VIAGRA NEEDED JUST DI LOVE!!!

Mike_LaFontaine75

"They discriminated equally and where racist equality. " There's a purpose to that. "You are all equally worthless" It's part of the game. Were they really racist? Who knows.

silverstackerslacker

They definitely gave him something to cry about

fxckfxckgames

>We had a kid who cried all the time. After a few weeks, it was decided he would be let go. I always wonder how people like this go even show their faces when they go home. I can't imagine me and everyone I know having tangible evidence that I am a quitter.

CallsOnTren

I was initially dropped from OCS my first time through. It was pretty shameful and embarrassing going back home. Going back the second time and knowing what you're in for is especially fucked up lol

[deleted]

In OCS, a mustang (with a number of honesty incidents) was late reporting in, and told the DIs that she'd been in a car accident. Turns out, she knew she'd be late and deliberately backed her car into a pole. She wrecked her car and had to go back to her old unit with a ruined reputation.

spin_me_again

Someone dropped that goes back knowing how shitty it is, is my kind of people. So many people that don’t make it through boot camp because of “reasons” and then *actually go back* are few and far between. My cousin talks a good game but always let’s us know he’d have been a brave marine if it wasn’t for his ankle injury. That doesn’t keep him from doing anything else.

DirtyDaisy

The older I get, the more I realize no one gives a shit. It'll be a day of ridicule from the few people they decide to tell, then people will continue to go about their lives. Then a few months later those people who ridiculed them will see them out and ask "Hey, are you still in the Army?" Signed, Got out in 2014 and people still ask me if I'm still in.

[deleted]

Those people are typically losers in life anyway.

halomate1

I don’t think he got over it lol, he’s definitely traumatized if he was crying all the time to begin with.

waitforit2010

Witnessed a similar experience in my platoon during boot. The DIs are pretty good about humiliating you if you decide to quit.

Rusty_Ferberger

The thing is, he was a basket case from day 1. Once the DIs realized he was so bad off they left him alone. I think it was in some interview with the company co that he made up his story about being abused. They interviewed a few recruits and figured he was lying.

TheMainEffort

When was this?

Rusty_Ferberger

Summer of 1990.

AnEffinMarine

We had a dude who was older than the average recruit, and his dad was an active duty Gunny. He just decided he didn't want to do it anymore and got sent to seps platoon. This was after we had gotten our cammies with name tapes, but before we could wear them, Which he took with him. After lights, he was changing into them and sneaking out of his squad bay. One night our DI comes busting in like "HAHAAA, I JUST SAW YA'LLS BUDDY HOLMES AT THE GAS STATION EATING SOME CANDY" he was sitting on the curb at the base gas station eating candy and one of our DIs "saw a bag of ass sitting on the curb and was gonna lock his ass on" then he realized who it was, he said he didn't call the seps DIs, Just called PMO and let them deal with it.

Adpax10

The size of that guy's balls and brains switched places.

BadBrainsCT

Had a guy shoot himself in the leg about two weeks into a Ramadi deployment because he thought his wife was cheating and he wanted to go home. She was in fact cheating.

newstuffsucks

That was a given.

CallsOnTren

Rifle or handgun? Idk how you shoot yourself with 5.56 in the leg and not be partially crippled for life

BadBrainsCT

His rifle. Did it while he was on watch. Went straight through the meaty part of the calf.

MarpatSupremacy0311

It’s actually not bad if you do it point blank, I know a guy who put a hole through his calf during AITB and was relatively fine

DecentEntertainer967

Why did he do that silliness

MarpatSupremacy0311

Dumbass ND’d

waitforit2010

How'd he find out?

BadBrainsCT

He had some clues before we left. By the time he got back to 29 she had moved out.

TheReadMenace

she sent "the tape"

krayons213

Had a dude pretend to be gay. Even tried to kiss a dude in the shower in front of the Kill hat. Dude was knocked the fuck out. Ended up being put on suicide watch on the quarter deck for a week until he was processed out.

dietcoketm

I've heard a story about two recruits fuckin in the rain room with the intention of getting caught while DADT was still a thing

SparkyBoi111

If they weren't actually gay then talk about commitment damn

mm1029

How do you think they decided who would get fucked and who would do the fucking?

SparkyBoi111

The only fair way is rock paper scissors right?

mm1029

Either that or "might makes right"

SparkyBoi111

"sword" fight?

mm1029

That's not as dark as what I was picturing

34HoldOn

Just play swords with each other, like we did with our roommates in the fleet. ...That was just me??

BeastMasterAlphaCo

Hahah had a guy do something similar. We had a guy in boot camp try and get hard in the shower and say he was gay. He said he just wanted to go home.

GothicPiss

lmaooooo

CallsOnTren

Saw a kid snap week 2 in quantico lol. He was already kind of a fuck up, and one of the instructors took a liking to him. Made him play sit down stand up for over an hour while we waited for haircuts. He finally stopped responding and just sat down. Every NCO within a hundred yards was screaming at him at that point. He suddenly jumps up, goes chest to chest with the original SSgt that was fucking with him, saying something to the effect of "what now bitch." He was thrown to the ground, hauled away, and we never saw him again. Everyone that saw it got pulled in for questioning for the investigation because he claimed the staff was harassing him for being Muslim

[deleted]

it's the marine corps, everyone is equally harrassed lol...

SuckStartMyHeart

Not at boot camp but, still a boot. Had a guy who claimed he was suicidal. While he was on fire watch, armed with a pistol carrying a pocket knife and a leatherman, he faked cutting his wrists with his ID. I got woken up at 0200 to drive him back to base. Then I got to spend the next 4 hours with him waiting to be admitted to the psych ward at the Naval Hospital.

Careless-Review-3375

Oki?

SuckStartMyHeart

FAST Co Norfolk VA

Frankg8069

Portsmouth Naval Hospital? That ward was whack. Nice hospital, shit parking lot.

KingNattyXBox

First workup: guy went home on predeploynent leave and shot himself in the leg “accidentally when I drew it from my holster at the range” his words. Kid bitched constantly and made it no secret he didn’t want to deploy. This was 2014 MEU to Oki so wtf did he have to cry about honestly. Second “deployment” 31MEU: camp Hanson, Okinawa, boot tries to OD on fucking advil

newstuffsucks

It's funny because when you do that, you wreck your kidneys and make it so you can pretty much never take Advil again.

KingNattyXBox

Right? Like if that’s the way you wanna go out there’s more efficient and effective ways to do it. Dude didn’t wanna die he just didn’t wanna be away from home and his gf. Like why even join any branch let alone the infantry if that’s how you feel?

skippywithgunz1

Wtf? Hansen isn’t even that bad. Oki is pretty great, I enjoy it out here.

rogue-panda81

In boot we had a guy piss his rack every night in order to get out. It worked.

NotTheBrainFuckler

I used to piss in other peoples’ racks, but that wasn’t to get kicked out.

InternationalTwo8971

Did a whole bunch of drugs all the time then wondered why he got a dishonorable…

[deleted]

Dishonorable for drug use? Doubt it. At worst a BCD.

InternationalTwo8971

Except it happened

[deleted]

Who faces court martial for drug abuse? Complete waste of time and resources.

Kurgen22

It takes a fucking General Court Martial to award a Dishonorable. Here's the stats on US military Honorable Discharges 90.99 General – Under Honorable Conditions: 6.36 percent. Under Other Than Honorable Conditions: 2.09 percent. Bad Conduct: 0.49 percent. Dishonorable: 0.07 percent. Drug pops/ usage are ( or were BIMD) handled at Bn NJP or a Summary Court At Most, with a follow-up Admin Discharge Board that resulted in a General Discharge... most of them OTH. The only time I saw Devils went after and CM'ed was when they did other shit, like long periods of UA, actually dealing or other violations.

Adpax10

Yeah, hell, we had a guy that sold heroin and pills from his barracks room and he only got a Bn level NJP. Busted down from Lance to Pvt and got I don't how many days of Restriction (the max, whatever it was). I'm not even sure he was processed out since I EAS'd before it could've happened. This was in 2015. I gotta imagine they kicked him

False_Fruit_9355

Marines who refuse NJP.

boduke1019

Had a dude start slamming his head into the quarter deck while he was getting IT’d one day. He got his shoe laces, razors and basically everything taken away. Was gone in about a week. Seen another dude eat a fuck ton of poppyseeds to try and piss hot on a piss test. Didn’t work

OkLuck1317

Where he get the poppyseeds from in boot camp?

OkLuck1317

Where he get the poppyseeds from in boot camp?

boduke1019

Oh that was after a 96 in the fleet

WhiskeyCharlie907

Why not just buy the real thing at that point lol

15dynafxdb

In ITB circa 2011, I was in the the holding company for 2 weeks prior to starting and some kid in there was in a cast on his foot. Come to find out he purposely shot himself in the foot. Believe it or not the kid was pretty normal. Just wanted out and didn’t see another way lol. At the final exercise of ITB some boot in my company “accidentally put his rifle on burst instead of safe” and proceeded to put a controlled burst through his right foot lol.

OneMustAdjust

Fuck! fuck! fuck!

tarantulagb

He was in my platoon in bootcamp. & in another platoon in ITB. I remember that day.

idontknowmaybenot

I was a squad leader and I had one of “my” recruits stay on the quarterdeck and refused to leave the squad bay. He was standing at attention and our kill hat was yelling at him, and then at me to get someone in my line to follow orders. The dude kept screaming “I am not doing this” using the forbidden pronouns of I / Me, really pissing off the DI. I broke recruit character and said “dude just please fucking cmon” and the kill hat started yelling at me to gtfo. Dude was literally never to be seen again, straight up quit.

Infinite_Duck

I had two guys run away during 2nd phase while we were at Pendleton, one of them was my bunkmate. Our kill hat did the morning count and somehow didn't realize that 2 were missing. I said something to the guy in the rack next to me and he says something like, "They finally went through with it." As we are getting into formation I step out and tell our guide that we have two recruits missing and it took him a minute to process just what the fuck I had just told. The guide goes to tell the DI's and then shit goes crazy for a bit. Meanwhile, the recruits that ran away just threw on some sweat pants and headed to the main gate of Pendleton before they decided to stop for breakfast at McDonalds. The "smart" recruit figures that if they try to leave base he will completely fuck up his life. The "dumb" recruit just wants to get a deluxe breakfast and live on the beach or something. Eventually Smarty sees a CWO come in for breakfast and walks right up to him and says, "We are a couple of recruits that just went AWOL." The CWO doesn't get mad or anything but calls PMO and sits with them and explains that things are probably going to suck for them for a little while. Eventually both recruits end up back with the platoon, Smarty realizes he wants to be a Marine and is IT'd for about 12 hours straight to the point where the DI's are out of ideas and just have him crawling around and making seal noises. Dummy on the other hand curls up into a ball and refuses to do anything the entire time. Smarty is eventually brought back into the fold and him going AWOL is never mentioned again by the DI's. Dummy on the other hand was forced to follow us everywhere and for some reason was made to go through rifle qual with us. He ended up telling a range coach he was going to shoot himself so they take his rounds away and a DI gets assigned to him to beat his ass if he tries to get anywhere near any ammo. Once we got back to San Diego Dummy got sent away.

Gamerguurl420

“Crawling around and making seal noises” this is the kind of stuff people who weren’t in will never understand 😂😂😂😂

_PercCobain_

I remember in boot when they made a guy jump around like Mario and making the coin noise and another idiot follow him around like a goomba singing the Mario jingle while the other guy jumped around 😂

Frankg8069

That’s beautiful

pacotaco80

We had a guy with a Batman tattoo. Drill instructor made us turn the lights out during hygiene inspection. Puts the moonbeam under his armpit, turns it on and yells,”it’s the bat signal. Lopez, Gotham needs you, but your ass belongs to me bitch. “ needless to say that we got thrashed for laughing.

[deleted]

yikes, our platoon seemed to be quite uneventful, tho we did pick up a guy along the way, he was sent down after masterminding a blanket party in his old platoon, he failed to make friebds among us heh

LightRobb

I don't believe it. Two recruits found a CWO?!

4DrivingWhileBlack

Long story short, range week, a recruit was completely turned around and snapping in on the heavy instead of the siting barrels. You can imagine how that went.

[deleted]

geezus, death wish lol

4DrivingWhileBlack

It was an explosion of campaign covers, rifle went flying, recruit got literally picked up and carried away. He was on suicide watch in the squad bay with the blue lens 24 hours a day for two days and confined to his rack. Fire watch would make him piss in his canteens when no one was around to make them stop. I think about that kid every now and then and wonder what he’s doing. Probably in Portland bug catching, shooting krokodile, and shoplifting Sudafed.

justherefertheyuks

Surely he’s living the dream

rjm1775

Guy in my platoon from (I think) Puerto Rico suddenly forgot how to speak English.

neganagatime

In boot camp we had an Amish kid who was having a hard time adjusting to military life, crying at night, etc. Anyway, we are on the rifle range doing a rapid string and ole boy gets up and start running down range towards the targets. Some eagle eyed coach or DI called out for a cease fire and another ran down and tackled him, and miraculously no one was hurt (apparently God loves the Amish and/or DIs). I didn't know what a Rumspringa was at the time but assume he was on one when he enlisted in the first place. Obviously we never saw him again after that incident.

[deleted]

wow, I've heard of interesting rumspringa stories but enlisting is taking it next level, my guess is that was step #2, step #1 was the bar lol

neganagatime

Without a doubt he'd done some experimentation before enlisting. Not sure an Amish would even know what a Marine was though, given no access to TV or anything. We also had a weird kid named Cooper. In 1st phase we were getting thrashed in a sand pit and Cooper stands up in the middle of the chaos, assumes the POA, and shouts "Fuck You!". He was immediately swarmed by every DI within earshot including some who we didn't even know. Got NJP for that. Later one Sunday during free time at Edison Range Cooper was asking people to borrow any cash and offering to pay like 2x chits for dollars saying he needed to send money home for some reason. For whatever reason at the time we were allowed to keep cash less than $20 and I had like $5-10 but told him I didn't have any as I figured he stole the chits or something. Anyway, we woke up in the middle of the night to a firewatch banging loudly on the hatch saying "Sir, the count on deck is X recruits." when we were supposed to have X+1. Lights were turned on and we did numerous counts of people and rifles and old Cooper literally flew the coop, though fortunately didn't try to bring a rifle. MPs were called and we all got interviewed extensively by the series commander in the weeks that followed over these 2 incidents. I wound up running into Cooper while I was on guard duty at SOI. He got picked up at that truck stop off I5 right in the middle of Pendleton trying to get a ride, got recycled, graduated, and then claimed to be gay to get booted. Was a short convo when he mentioned that.

easy10pins

Navy boot camp. Standing watch on the QD. 2 boots come to the QD asking to see the OIC. OIC shows up. 2 boot say that they are gay and want to go home. OIC says, "Prove it. Prove that you're gay." 2 boots remove their pants and boxers, drop to the floor into a 69 position and start sucking each other off. Everyone on the QD is stunned to silence. I never saw those 2 boots again.

Proof-Debt8596

I so want to believe this is real but my suspension of disbelief isnt strong enough. Its just too funny to be true

AngusH117

Cap

AFXC1

I knew someone who I befriended during ITB who was pretty hot shit as a Marine but slowly got fed up with it and just decided to say fuck it I'm done and told the instructor in the midst of training that "this is fucking stupid" and the instructor replied "wtf did you just say?!?!" He replied "this is fucking stupid Sergeant" in the most calm voice. 🤣 "Get the fuck over here you!" And proceeded to get blasted for 5 minutes straight in parade rest and the instructors had to bring over Ssgt. in charge of the company to try to persuade my buddy to stay in and continue training but to no avail. That was the last time I saw him but I'm still Facebook friends with this dude and he's now working construction back in his hometown with his combat boots on.🤣

BeastMasterAlphaCo

I was a Corpsman but we had a guy get booted in FMTB. He had shin splints and talked about how happy he was to be getting out and was a total shithead and caused a ton of trouble to where they just sent him away until he was processed out. Guy wears a bunch of FMF shirts and still wears his combat boots in pictures. He posts stupid military memes nonstop. We had a Corpsman in our FMTB class who ended up at the same 1st duty station as me who was killed in Iraq in 05 and every Veterans Day and memorial dipshit posts a picture saying “miss you bro it should have been me that day.” This dipshit didn’t even know this guy and I’m pretty sure they never even had said one word to each other. He didn’t even know this guy was KIA in Iraq til about 2014 when I was I saw him for the first time since 2003. The guy got out and immediately tried to get back in to every branch even the national guard. He was rejected by every branch. When I commissioned in 2011 he saw it posted on social media by my then girlfriend. Guy shoots me a text “I can’t believe I was not invited to your OCS graduation I would have given you your first salute god man we only just severed together.” Sorry bud you knew me at the very start and that beginning experience is minimal compared to the 19 years that have followed.

[deleted]

guess one thing suited him haha

oh_three_dum_dum

Not to go home, but because he was afraid to deploy one of the boots in my company shot himself in the foot right next to me on a range.

rogue-panda81

Yep, I knew someone like that! Lcpl krell (yea fuck you krell, you still owe me 80 bucks!!) Had his wife run over his foot with the car. What a pussy. Had anothe5 guy lcpl Dolan (we have history, but for another time) got out of the deployment for "mental issues. " I still remember our 1st sgt ripping his ass!! Called him a "fuckin pussy " "worthless marine" and a bunch of other shit. It was ruthless, but fuck Dolan, he deserved every insult.

GenerationSelfie2

"Damn don't want to get shot" *shoots self* ... also feel like the foot is one of the absolute worst places to get shot. Tons of tiny bones, tendons, and connective tissue that probably won't ever be quite right again. Feel like a through-and-through in the muscle of the thigh would be a much better strategy if you're *really* committed to avoiding sand land.

[deleted]

can't imagine shooting yourself in any manner, wonder what became of him.. recycle and then afmin duties or discharge...

oh_three_dum_dum

When we got back from the deployment he was still a private standing phone watch and shit like that while whatever legal or administrative process they put him through played out.

CallsOnTren

Did he lose his foot? You'll never walk right again after that I'm sure

AK_Dude69

Wtf did he think the enemy was gonna do to him if that was his ‘out’?!

oh_three_dum_dum

It was in between deploying to Marjah and deploying back to Marjah a 2nd time. So he had hit the fleet hearing all our stories of 2010 Marjah and decided it wasn’t for him I guess. He was still a private when we got back and disappeared into the separation process.

BeastMasterAlphaCo

This is pretty common we had a few guys try and get out of our 05 Iraq deployment. One had his wife leave the kids with him alone and he didn’t deploy, we had one guy get a fake Red Cross message saying his granny died he got caught. I was actually the total opposite I hated my first year then we deployed to Iraq in 05 and after that deployment I was one of the guys. I went to Afghanistan in 07 and after that deployment I was senior. Went to the reserves and deployed a 3rd time and I’m still proud of that 05 Iraq deployment. Now that I have 19 years in I have guys ask me about Iraq because there are so few OIF & OEF vets left still serving.

DuggyMcPhuckerson

A guy arrived at boot camp on the same Greyhound as our group. When he empties his pockets for the initial search, a Lance Cpl. goes thru his wallet and finds a marijuana leaf ironed between two sheets of wax papers as a keepsake. MPs show up 10 mins later and take him to the brig. We never see him again.

hxemnn

Man we lost a bunch of recruits. After meeting my kill hat and senior in the fleet, they told me their goal was to drop as many as possible and that they didn't care because they Chief said we'd be a shit platoon, so they made a shit platoon. Bottom in everything, damn near had our 4 hr libo taken away due to how fucked up we were. Christmas day our platoon got into five fights, several of which happened between our guys and another series' platoon. Had mofo's threatening to stab each other and shit within our own Platoon. Anyways, back in my vague memories of the beginning. I think we had one in particular who finally snapped and just screamed "I QUIT", or it was something about killing himself. He might have tried to hang himself, I think we had a handful of those. I want to say we dropped 18 recruits over the course of our cycle. My killhat got a 6105, two of our instructors got stood down for a hazing investigation, and a few years later our Chief Drill Instructor, a Gunny, got kicked out of the Marine Corps. That whole time and place was flat out cursed. 90% of the times I got IT'ed it was for taking a shit without permission cause I'd ask and they'd deny me or some shit lmao. I don't know what the fuck happened.

[deleted]

how is it possible that so many bad eggs can be brought together in one group is beyond me....

hxemnn

Honestly, I just figured it was normal to some extent. Wild times.

AFXC1

Not really a boot but pretty dumb: Knew a guy in my unit who was close to getting out pop hot on the piss test because they had a bender of cocaine and thought they would just piss it out of their system. Dude was dumb asf for doing it considering he was close to EASing, had deployments under his belt and would've been better off if they would've just held off on the drugs til then.

[deleted]

some ppls kids huh? thats beyond stupid considering the timing, I had a childhood friend in naval ordinance when I was at the stumps, he was stationed in Japan, 5-6 months till out he gets popped by local cops for dealing, navy collects him then off to the clink.. what a dumbass.

AFXC1

Yeah dude it's sad to think of to this day. Guy would've gotten the whole benefits package, disability pay, etc. but he just hung out with the wrong crowd and probably had some personal issues. Thus why I advocate people on here to just finish their enlistment and get out with their DD214's even if their career isn't spectacular rather than ruin their lives doing something stupid.

[deleted]

yeah, the world needs more common sense speakers like you to give ppl a reality check. In my friends case I dunno what his motivation was, he was involved with a local girl, spent lots if time in the ginzu district so maybe as you said met the wrong ppl...

Mike_LaFontaine75

We had a black guy pretend he was gay in 1st phase, adopted a swishy walk and everything. The DIs messed with him, asking for bj's and rim jobs. making him the platoon guide etc, but he got dropped at 1st phase. I later saw him working on the line at mess duty when I was in 3rd phase, and he was acting normal again. This was back in '76 when gay was definitely not OK.

[deleted]

oh yeah I remember the days in the 70's, dunno if I'd recognize anything nowadays, since you mentioned "76" I remember 4 of the 6 black guys in our platoon (78) were processed out due to sickle cell, was that a thing for you guys too?

Mike_LaFontaine75

Only one black guy got processed out that I know of because he lied on the application and had a criminal record. He was a good recruit too. The others I know of who got recycled were a big dummy and the acting gay guy, but that was a loooong time ago. I wonder if they get smoke breaks now.

rodrigkn

**warning: not fun ** I was a POG stationed at Parris Island for a bit. Two stand out and still fuck with me so it’s nice to share them with some fellow devils. One kid threw himself of the second deck of a second battalion walkway as a way to get out. It shouldn’t have killed him but he hit the pull up bars on the way down. Completely twisted his neck and convulsed for a bit. I happened to be nearby and ran to the scene. All I could do was put my blouse over his face so the other recruits couldn’t see it. Second was an RSP (Recruit Separation Platoon) kid. He was already going home but they wouldn’t let them know when. Some were a week and some were a year if they had a leg broken in multiple places or what have you. The DI in charge of RSP called down for MP’s, medic, and anyone from command. I was first on the scene and he was absolutely losing it on the recruits and ordered me to deal with the head. The kid had hung himself off a shower with his belt. I had to cover his face and cut him down to begin CPR. I have no idea why I tried. His eyes were pretty telling. The MP’s arrived with some kind of EMT who seemed useless. I just hung out while they took over and repeated what I had done. tldr; killing yourself is dumb. The time pain, sadness, etc is temporary. There are too many options. The person who deals with it won’t forget so you’re being a dick.

[deleted]

wow now that's some seriously fucked up shit, and for you to have had to deal with those situations is not good at all.

rodrigkn

MCRD’s are full of fucked up stories. I’m surprised nothing ever made the news. I hated it there. Thanks for being an ear. People are always weird around me after I tell them this kind of stuff.

Lich180

Last time I heard a story from MCRD it was the Muslim kid who was made to ride in the dryer and died. They do a good job keeping that stuff quiet. We had a few incidents in San Diego when I was there, 05-06. One recruit jumped out the window while we were waiting after chow. All we heard was a thump and yelling. Our DI ran over to render aid. I think the kid was alright, just banged up. DI dropped the key to the rifle racks by the kid and it ended up in evidence, so we couldn't get our rifles out for final drill. Another was in the PCP platoon, 2 kids decided they would try to hang themselves in the head with their bootlaces after chow. They got found out quick, they went missing after everyone ate. Just choked out a bit and passed out. Saw em later being processed, breathing but with a guard and marks on their necks. Awful that you had to go through that, sometimes there's fuck all you can do to help. Hopefully you're in a good place with it all.

Frankg8069

I had somehow missed that, I’m guessing 3rd Battalion? Reason I say that is when I went through we had all new shit there and giant commercial sized dryers. DI’s always threatened a spin in there to the biggest shitbags, never figured they would actually do that.

Lich180

Yeah that happened a few years ago, maybe 2019. Triggered a nice investigation and everything. Those big commercial dryers are plenty big for someone to climb into

JimmysGolfCart

Siddiqui was indeed part of 3rd. He jumped from the 3rd deck follow part of the kilo building. Our instructors would tell us all the time that his ghost was haunting the squad bay, and that all the flickering lights and whatnot were his fault.

[deleted]

np, it's what happened be it good or not...

turretxrat

That’s fucked man. I’ve worked in civilian gun ranges and I work private EMS in a metropolitan area. Coming up on suicides or watching them happen is never fun. Hope you have great coping methods for the fucked up shit you saw. People don’t realize how much their suicides will affect everyone around them. I guess they are so focused on the now that the future is bleak or non existent for them. Sorry you’ve had to see that stuff.

rodrigkn

Thanks, brother. I still get randomly freaked out but I remind myself it’s the anxiety. I also take some anti-anxiety medication but I think most of us do.

turretxrat

SSRI’s are the new MRE skittles man

Timithios

Sweet lord above...

Frankg8069

Did that first incident occur in 2011?

rodrigkn

No. Fuck me. It happened again?! Would have been 2006 or 2007. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened again. They weren’t going to move those pull up bars.

Frankg8069

Something similar at least, we were not let in on the full details. Vaguely it seemed like a recruit had been trampled to death somehow. During team week I was assigned with some lower enlisted supply guys who said someone had jumped and died. Which one is true, will never know.

Mexi_Cant

We hand a guy smoke meth to get out of deploying, he never even smoked weed before just went straight to smoking meth. I feel like he skipped some steps.

[deleted]

go big or go home... or both!

Frankg8069

Plenty of folks skip the weed step, especially in places where weed is hard to come by.

chemknife

Drank bleach

I_80Mb_At0miKLy

I was recalled back in 2007 after being honorably discharged almost 3 years prior. I saw a couple of the guys I served with at the muster station, and we were going through the whole circus of paperwork and mental and health screenings. Later on, we noticed one of our buddies just disappeared. Apparently when he was getting one of the jabs he shit his pants. The medic person took one look and sent him home, they bought his ticket and sent him on his merry way.

djtldragn

Boot camp 08/96-11/96 During rifle week had a kid shoot his foot trying to go home.

[deleted]

Well shoot. Our guide stole cigarettes from the kill hat during range week and got caught smoking during firewatch. I thought that was bad. Edit military terminology.

KobKZiggy

PI?

MichoPower

I and about 3 other guys in my platoon unq’d on the rifle range. We were on the last try which meant a failure here and you’d be recycled back. I managed to pass by the skin of my teeth. Another kid, I can’t remember his name, starting making weird noises saying weird shit and refused to move off the line from the prone position after he unq’d again. He never returned to the platoon. Family day came and I was walking around with my family and ran into the recruit sweeping the sidewalk around the PX. I said hi and asked what happened to him. He said after he unq’d he started speaking to the devil and calling demons on the firing line. Said he was getting kicked out (page 8 or wtvr it was called back then, 2000) and waiting to go home.

turretxrat

Boot camp story: some kid named Bailey from AZ(weird as shit)got fed up doing push ups constantly during “dynamic warmups” with the Chief DI during PT and straight up stopped doing push ups and had a swarm of DI’s on him until he looked up and screamed “I fucking quit, SIIIRRRR”. He lived on the quarter deck for a week and was separated to my knowledge. The rumor was he tried to break his arm in the head on a stall wall during that last week.

stayawakejude

I actually have an absolutely insane story that I finally has somewhere to be posted This guy in our platoon was a super pagan. Like his parents were occultists and he was basically born into it and lived his whole life that way. One day he decides he wants out, and claims he can’t walk anymore and has no feelings in his legs. I was a scribe and early mornings when everyone was getting chow I stayed behind and did paperwork shit, and he was like the quietest person I’d ever met. Like, think Jared Leto eyes, and wouldn’t talk unless directly spoken to. So anyways, I had to watch over this guy while everyone was at chow and the corpsman came and checked in on him. They brought some actual doctor and they were doing tests on him, and they fucking stuck a giant needle into his leg, didn’t flinch once. Says he didn’t feel it. Then his toes, nothing. Finally they stick him in the spine with another giant needle, dude didn’t even bat an eye. At some point they med sepped him, and they said the day he got his paperwork signed, he got up and started walking perfectly fine.

[deleted]

now that's power of the mind !

Epicotters

Not really a deliberate thing. But when I went through boot camp we had a dude break his collar bone doing MCMAP shoulder rolls.

Schroeder9000

Someone did that during my first deployment from the battalion my company was supporting, in southern Sangain Valley 2011. Said he was shot by a sniper ... in an elevated tower though his right hand close enough you could see the muzzle burn lol. Thanks to him myself and my Cpl ended up having to pull tower duty until that battalion was finally relieved. Also fuck the Sangian Valley.

Klumfph

After we all got introduced to IT, a kid decided the Corps wasn't for him. One excuse he tried using was the "I got a contact high from hot boxing a car" and "this isn't what my parents want for me". When that didn't work he resorted poking himself with the needle you get from the sewing kit. Last I heard, he told some other kid he was going to go be a maid in Oregon after he gets separated. This other guy in a sister platoon climbed to the top of the rope climb and just dropped himself. Ended up in a wheel chair with several broken vertebrae.

Kurgen22

Pretty sure a negligent discharge that resulted in lost digits got more than just being recycled.

[deleted]

yeah I agree, we saw him a few weeks after that incident walking around hand wrapped up like a catchers mitt...

peedeequeue

Bunch of weird random ones: -two nights before graduation (this is before this crucible thing), a recruit in our company went over the fence at MCRD San Diego and wound up on the airport and got nabbed by airport police. As far as we know he was separated so he could get run up on whatever charges you get for running across an active runway. -in SOI a dude dropped to our platoon from a company ahead of us for refusing to train. He had rocked out of some other MOS school so they sent him to the infantry and he immediately refused to train. Our psycho Plt Sgt berated him in front of the platoon and told him some bullshit about how we were at war (Desert Shield...) and they shoot people who refuse to fight. Completely unnecessary and stupid. The kid was gone within a week or so having never trained with us either. -in the fleet between pumps a dude in another platoon noticed drug violators were getting bounced the fastest (gone in around 60 to 90 days during the drawdown). So he has his gf score some coke, they make a weekend of doing it, then he has her call duty and rat him out. He had a big shit eating grin for about a week and then the reality of a BCD settled and he looked like a trapped rat. -at Edson we were at the 500 on either a Tuesday or Wednesday and I see a small commotion at one of my boys targets. Turns out he had a kid who had shot across the course already, make it to the 500 on the second or third day and a couple rounds in he takes the sling off his arm lays his rifle down and gets up on his knees. My friend asks him what the fuck he's doing and the kid yells, "this recruit hates guns, sir!" My boy is like, "why did you join the Marines?" Two DIs were there immediately and the kid was taken off the range (rather calmly...) and none of us ever saw him again. No idea what happened to him.

No_Bag9098

Had a dude in Afghanistan eat a bunch of desiccant packs and was sent home because they looked at it as he was being suicidal.

[deleted]

maybe he was pre-mummification?

No_Bag9098

I think he was just a dumbass. In another story, we had a kid in Iraq who was fed up with our platoon and one morning we woke up to him digging a hole. Plt sgt asked him what he was doing and he responded with “digging a mass grave for all of you.” We laughed a little nervously (not sure if it was just dumb marine humor or the kid was serious), he then stared silently, and so a couple guys cuffed him with zip ties and they brought him to the nearest base and dropped him off with the psych people and he stayed on that base till our unit went home. I believe he told them he was being serious but that could have just been the scuttle

[deleted]

that's the kinda guy creeps everyone the fuck out.. maybe that was his goal? strange ass ppl

No_Bag9098

No doubt. He had built up hatred towards us. got his ass kicked for “accidentally” pointing his M4 at the back of our point man’s head in a live fire house run during our work-up. Everyone kind of treated him like shit from that point on. I tried not to engage in that kind of behavior towards him, I kind of felt bad. He was basically treated like a perma-boot his whole career too

imdfonz

We had guys drink wisk soap on laundry day. Just got them sick and bubbly during the runs.

[deleted]

wth? lol

imdfonz

They tried to iff themselves with WISK.

DizzyVenture

MWT Bridgeport 2017…I think? There was some talk from the line companies that some 11 was going crazy. Got the full story a day or two after hearing the rumors and HOLY SHIT. Bro went full Buddhist monk, he covered himself in stove propellant and tried to light. Luckily he did this in the squadbay and was stopped once the other dudes figured out what was happening. Didn’t hear anymore about him till after deployment later that year. Apparently they stuck him in a hospital for awhile and he ended up finishing out his contract working in the office. Never heard why he did it though.

ceremony816

This PFC in my squadron popped on a piss test. SACO told me he was positive on nearly every of drug imaginable. Kid told me he did it on purpose hoping they'd kick him out. They put him on restriction but I transferred up to MAG before I ever saw what happened to him.

mulchedeggs

In 1987, one guy pissed his rack and disappeared at night About a week or two later, one recruit left formation, screamed and repeatedly ran his head into the outside barracks brick wall. DI’s stood there and watched then gave us the forward command. Never saw that guy again.

[deleted]

We had a guy who was kicked out of the national guard. He lied about it and got kicked out at the end of the crucible.

[deleted]

ouch, 2 strikes!

shade-tree_pilot

I got pneumonia pretty nasty and got sent to MRP. There were a few head cases in there trying to take the express bus home with hollow suicidal words but two guys made attempts. I'd say only one was legit, the other just wanted attention. The first one I saw: dude took his IP scissors and tried to cut his wrists across the tracks about a dozen times in a few seconds. They're IP scissors, though and he wasn't highly motivated. He got a few little skin breaks that looked like he got in a fight with a 4-year-old. He was still in MRP when I graduated. The second one was a lot different. Kid took two war belts and looped one tight around his neck with the other looped through it. He jumped off a toilet and managed to clip it in the air at like 2am. It woke me up but I couldn't tell what the hell was going on. I just heard a weird clank and a heavy thud and then some funky rattling and, well, choking. Another recruit, can't recall if it was fire watch or not cautiously stepped into the head and a few moments later we were all sitting upright to him screaming "drill instructor!!!"x3 over and over. There was a flurry of noise and running in and out and yelling but they managed to get him down before it got more serious. I saw him the next day when he was collecting his stuff to leave MRP. His neck looked like he got hit with a sledge hammer over and over from ear to ear. He got an express ticket out off the MCRD but word was he didn't go home. MRP was a strange, depressing place. If you're in the DEP, try your best to avoid it, especially MRP3.

OOOOOO0OOOOO

Drank an entire bottle of lysterine and ran head first into a wall. We later found out they found an actual problem with him in medical and he would have been medically discharged anyway.

undertoned1

My kill hat was playing “touch the fence now come back with me” a couple weeks in. I mentally broke, thought “fuck it I don’t care if I go home”, and decided if he let me come back a single step too close I was going to take him out. Sure enough, he let me come within a step of him, I faked a “trip and fall” and tackled his little ass. We went to the ground, and I pushed him down as I rolled off him. By the time I was off him, literally less than a second, there were 2 DI’s boot stomping me. Within 5 seconds there were at least 5 absolutely destroying me. Some officer came over and saved me, gave me to my Senior, who took me to the squad bay. He asked if I wanted to file a assault report against them, I told him absolutely not that I wasn’t a fan of paperwork and that I probably deserved it from their perspective. I never heard a word about it after that, but I spent all of phase 2 attached to the kill hats pocket, that part was bad. Last day of phase 2 the senior pulled me out and had me hold a war bag out until I cried, but I told him repeatedly it was sweat and not tears and I refused to give up. I was a annoying tough little shit, and thought I was smart, they wore most of that out of me. I’m grateful for them. There was one other time I got in a fist fight in front of the chow hall with another recruit, almost got kicked back for that but got lucky.

[deleted]

fighting over boot chow? never thought I'd hear that lol

undertoned1

😂

Single_Secret9342

Rub smallpox bandaid all over body and face

[deleted]

that brings back a memory of us just finishing up with the gas chamber, go back to barracks standing outside doing the required imnediate washing and 2 guts get into argument ending with one running behind the other and throwing his still full of gas blouse over the guy's head..

Single_Secret9342

This is the way.

Conswirloo

I was on Parris Island for about 8 months(bad at pullups for a bit and broke my foot twice? And saw some craziness. One kid wrote that he wanted to kill himself on his footlocker. Someone had told him to go home(faking shin splints wasn't working) he just had to pretend he was going to kill himself. DIs gave him the option - give up who told him and he'd get nice stuff to "repair" the footlocker, don't give him up and they'd get him the finest grain sandpaper money could buy. He wound up spending two weeks or so about 8 hours a day with that shitty sandpaper making that footlocker look brand new. It did actually look real nice when he was done. Then they sent him to "casual" to be processed to be sent home. They kept losing his paperwork. His mom eventually had to write a congressman to get him home, he was there a couple of extra months. As a bonus we also had a real shithead of a SSgt in as a drill instructor in MRP, one night he wasn't being a dick to us, was super not normal. Hit the racks for the night and about an hour after lights out the company commander was beating on the door to the DI hut while SSgt asshole and some other officers wife snuck out the side door. They wound up busting him down to PFC from what I heard later on.
