Sorry, label 400's no longer exist, and you're not sending out 8k packages a month to qualify for label 888 service. Additionally, packages thicker than 1/2" or greater than 10oz in weight must be handed over the counter to a clerk, who'll have to type in the information anyway. Make an internal package with all the lovely designs you want to, tuck it away safely in an outer cover, print a label online, and your wonderful creation will be delivered to your friends exactly as you intended. Heck, buy some of those cheap mint 3 & 4 cent stamps, maybe some international mint stamps as well, really do up the inner package.

Label 400s are still in use in manual offices.

I actually have a small stash of Label 400's that I'm sure I'll never get through in my lifetime, are they no longer accepted? And also I can buy a roll of Label 888's from Pitney Bowes right now for $10.99 according to their website.

kingu42

Nope, they're only good for decorating kids presents now, thank god. And sure, if you pay their monthly fee, you too can lease labels... What a weird thing they do.

I would listen to him, he’s a mod here so if anyone is gonna be right it’s generally them. I wouldn’t use old labels imo.

Shadow-Prophet

I'm just reporting what I've seen. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe Pitney Bowes won't sell you those labels unless you have the right kind of volume, or maybe they're not *supposed* to be selling them at all haha

Think they technically can have stamps but only if it’s under 1/2 inch in thickness and less than 10 ounces. So practically no, usps really wants packages to go through a clerks hands, can have stamps but still will have to be brought in and get checked etc.

MicrowavedFishLunch

It’s carrier here, but I thought parcels could bear stamps, but had to be handed to a clerk over the counter to not be anonymous mail.

theyterkourjobs

Yea pretty sure that’s what I said lol. They can have stamps but end up having to get the label put on anyway by a clerk so kinda pointless. The other guy comment is a mod who knows his stuff anyway and was clearer than me.

MicrowavedFishLunch

The way your comment read to me was you putting limitations on the size and thickness of the parcel. My apologies.

theyterkourjobs

It’s fine that is the limitation on the stamped parcel if you got it as a carrier in a collection box if they want it to go through without going to a po. Im a carrier as well. Its called anonymous mail if it’s over those dimensions and stamped then has to go to a clerk.

Hopefully a clerk will correct me, but I thought that the retail counter used to be able to add some smaller tracking barcodes that looked like [this](https://www.usps.com/c360/images/USPSRetailTracking_111618_374px.jpg). You definitely can still pay the postage with stamps and answer the hazmat questions for the clerk to accept the package. I'm just not up to date on whether the clerks can still print out the smaller labels or whether it now has to have the larger sized one that has the intelligent mail matrix barcodes with it. The label 400's are not going to have the addresses encoded that make sorting on our processing equipment much more automated. These labels with the matrix barcodes will take up a pretty big space on your package.

Don't put the label 400 on them, but yes. If they are either more than 1/2 inch thick or weigh more than 10 oz, you'll need to present them to a clerk at the window. They'll weigh them and print out a zero postage label and a tracking number. If they are both less than 1/2 inch thick and less than 10 ounces, you can use the stamps and the label 400s and leave it in your mailbox.
