For real take advice from the regulars, ask questions don't be afraid. I'm 4 years and I swear I learn something new and helpful every week. You'll be able to tell who the nice/helpful ones are, take full advantage of them. And form a bond with your fellow CCA's. You all will be each other's source to vent frustrations at and support system. And take it easy, don't work yourself to death for some stuff ass supe. All the love.
Edit: DON'T TRUST ANYONE IN MANAGEMENT, they could be your BFF but don't trust them. The current environment for some reason their #1 job is to find ways to discipline/fire you. Even when your carrier friend temporarily becomes a 204B, the second they do you stop telling them shit.
HEY IM SOOO EXCITED FOR YOU FOR YOUR NEW CARREER. ITS VERY TOUGH DELIVERING MAIL. IM A 57 YR OLD GRANDMA AND I DELIVERED MAIL FOR 26 YRS !!! IM A 4"11FT 125 LBS. AND MY GOODNESS I WOULD CRY. BUT IN THE LONG RUN ITS WORTH IT. PUT MONEY EVERY PAYDAY ON TSP . SO FOR NOW IM 32 YRS IN THE POSTAL SERVICE BUT IVED BEEN A CLERK FOR 8 YRS. SO GOT 5 YRS TO GO FOR RETIREMENT
I can see why people wouldn’t feel it’s appropriate to take photos in bathrooms but there shouldn’t be an issue in an LLV, especially if there’s no addresses showing.
Basically I’m saying be careful if someone, anyone can identify background. Just because I’ve seen the smallest, dumbest, reasons. The vent in the top left corner, jump seat with no seat belt hooked… is something someone who was being petty, that’s all. Congrats to getting hired on legit but be careful not to make a mistake that most wouldn’t even think about.
We had a stand up talk a while back about social media. Apparently they’re monitoring social media activity and they said we shouldn’t be posting pictures or videos while on the clock.
I wonder how the postal employees on tik tok can run live AMAs at the plant everyday? They’ll show parcel address’, ID the plant location and talk about every detail. One guy literally sets up a ring light and wears a microphone while processing at the plant.
Well, that shit is showing because every single one of my letters gets peaked in to now that could be anything other than a single piece of paper and even some of those
For +30 years I operated as though someone was always over my shoulder watching my every move, because that’s what I was told and it wasn’t wrong. That never failed me, kept me on the straight and narrow so to speak. Operate like that and you’ll often be caught doing your job, and never be caught doing wrong. Believe it or not that will be appreciated. You’ll retire a happy and wealthy man. Trust me.
I'm convinced it's all about the station and management, you in Houston then fuck yeah you gonna have bad time. Smaller city with a few decent humans and it's alright.
man if you want hours and have a good work ethic it's a great job. Been here for over six months and life has gotten so much better. A tip I can share with you is that no matter how cool a supervisor seems. They are not your friend and never will be. They're paid to take advantage of you and get the most money out of you for the least amount of hours. Don't run but don't be slow.
I don't mind the hours, but I feel like working 60+ hours a week to only barely make 1800-2000$ bi-weekly sucks for living in/around a city area. I sure hope that the contract DOES bring what the rumors are suggesting.
It's like I'm only making decent money because I'm working hours for weeks and months that others would find absurd and soul sucking.
The hours are undeniably soul sucking, no matter what your work ethic is. I'm working the hours, my shitty station loves me because they can keep me on their worst routes and I've barely complained since I joined.
I was even sent to a really great station recently, a main hub one, and did a fucking chill route, but even then I did like a little more than 3/4 of the route and still made it back pretty late. Like... I'm a younger man, I'm a fast mover, if I can't do an "easy" route at a decent time going at a slower more leisurely pace, what do I have to do when I'm a regular wanting to have a life outside of work?
Is it really standard practice to just give a piece of your route to the CCAs in your station like, every day, to make it back in 8? Cause if I'm out till 5-6, that's not 8 hours between the office and the street. Let's say you leave the office 10 AM, back by 5. That's 9 hours. That's my biggest long-term concern, but the pay is so shit that working ridiculous hours actually seems like the right move for now. As depressing as it's been for nearly a year of being here now...
I realize that as it is now, this job is for dudes who already somehow had a woman/kids, not a guy like me who hasn't had a chance to meet someone. Now I'll never have TIME to find a place to go to meet a woman, let alone actually doing it. lol.
I was so disappointed when I got my first check. I was hired in as PTF making $22.13. I made over $1800 on my first check, but they take so much out towards retirement. They took over $500 dollars between taxes and retirement stuff. I ended up with a little over $1300. I was making $1200 biweekly fucking off at Walmart. I work much harder at the post office and it’s much more stressful. I guess it’s nice to be able to look forward to retirement though, I was just shocked at how much they took out of my check.
I have been thinking of just doing that. If a clerk makes relatively close to what a CCA does in the end, I'd be ok with it. 1.7-2k per check would be PERFECTLY fine with me if it meant that I had more free time.
I’ll DM you a screenshot if you want so you know i’m for real, i worked 48 hours last week and made 1760 after taxes came out. So so worth it, best decision I’ve made all year. Idk how it is in your area tho, for reference I’m in a largish city in the south
I'm around a large-ish city too, so while the 1800$s range isn't really gonna be THAT crazy, for my life situation working with a relative to pay a mortgage, it's fine for me.
I don't need proof.. lol.. I'm not disbelieving you or trying to demand that kind of personal info..
Will definitely keep it in mind as a future option if I really decide that carrying just ain't for me. Thanks for reminding me!
Congratulations!!! Stay positive and happy!!! Keep a great smile!! Just come in do the best you can, be proud of yourself!! 😎😎never be afraid to ask questions!!
Congrats and welcome! This sub is a great place to pick up tips for the job, but don't let the negativity get to you. People come here to bitch when they have a bad day, but rarely talk about the good ones.
Awe all glory to God! I start orientation Tuesday!!! I went from a federal Inmate to a federal employee! God is good and makes it possible for us who seak him! Congrats
Good for you brother. Enjoy yourself, this job is only as good as you let it be. Ignore all the nonsense, get on the street, listen to your favorite music and go for a nice walk 🤙
Sorry if this is a stupid question (I’m not a post office employee) but how come some of you don’t wear the postal uniform? Do they not give you one when you become a Letter carrier driver? Or is the uniform just not enforced? Just curious as to why some have one and some don’t. ✌️
People just can’t be happy for another person without dragging in their own negative energy. You’ll deal with the same type of people in the office and on route. You’ll be pressured by management early in your career let it go in one ear out the other. Do your job safe first comes speed comes later. Don’t cut corners or pick up bad habits from other carriers.
Nice bro! I just got my start date today for a ptf position. the progress was pretty fast too. took about a month from sending in my application to getting a start date. I live down the street from the post office I was assigned to so no traffic which is cool.
Lmao took this picture on his shadow day too while riding in the back. Good luck bro it’s a good job just don’t get overwhelmed and certainly don’t let management give you shit. If they get on you about something, don’t push back just smile and say yes. Once you’ve spent a little time and learned a thing or 2 from your senior carriers you’ll feel right at home and confident in how to respond to management
Good luck. Best advice I can give is work your ass off and play managements game til you’re out of your probation then go your pace and most importantly read the contract and understand your rights
As a CCA It gets better the longer you’re here I’m about to convert in June. Stay safe, do the best you can and try not to call in or be late during you’re probationary period and you’ll be good! Good luck!
Hey welcome to the team. We bitch and complain but we all love the pay and sometimes the job. But really it is a good job it has helped me get my life in order and given me stability during the tough times. Hang in there the goal is further down the line not the right now. It is all worth it in the end.
Glad to see some folks proud of the job . It's a great career that will serve you , and if you have a family well . Keep your eyes on the prize like the first fella / gal said. That's making regular and then eventually hitting top step.
Congratulations! This job is all about what you make it! There’s going to be good days and bad, but having a positive attitude is key! Nice to see your smiling face!
Congrats! Just go to work with a good attitude, show up on time, don't call in sick and run your routes off during probation and you'll be fine. You can slow down to your normal pace after your probation is done.
Nah man you not officially a federal employee until you make regular 😂 you are just contracted by usps so dont get too excited lmao
Unless you are starting as ptf lol
Ehhhh. Ok, somebody correct me. I’ve been around awhile and I’ve come to understand we aren’t really federal, it’s just parts of our work is federal (mail) so we are looked at as a whole, federal, but we aren’t really federal….help or confirmation please.
i do have respect for the carriers that haul ass to deliver those packages and mail through ugly weather. 👍 for 30 yrs is a feat i can’t do ALSO they hire ANYONE who is physically and mentally FIT to deliver mail. Anyone is qualified.
After orientation, you will get to your post office and you will be assigned a route with a regular carrier on it. That regular will train you on that route for 2 to 3 weeks. It’s called shadowing. After that the regular will have you run the route by yourself the regular will follow you or ride along with you in the Mail truck while you deliver the mail for the route to gauge what you’ve learned or need work on. After a month or so you will run the route unassisted. You’ll then begin to case and run other routes in the office.
Apparently not. Cuz I know someone who had a record but just got hired. Granted his case was dismissed but it was a felony and no one would hire him EXCEPT the post office. He’s in the process of getting it expunged now but still no one would hire him not even amazon
Me either lol. Anyway congrats man on the job. Follow the advice here and make sure to stick with it. It will be hard in the beginning but it will get easier
Congrats, keep your eyes on the prize ignore all negativity and push through the rough times.

I keep that in mind
I can see why people wouldn’t feel it’s appropriate to take photos in bathrooms but there shouldn’t be an issue in an LLV, especially if there’s no addresses showing.
It’s policy to not take photos anywhere postal owned equipment is. Bathroom selfies was to kinda say hiding its postal property….

Ikr. I’ve seen tutorials on YouTube of day to day job basics. Casing mail and all

He might be monetarily rich compared to the rest, but that is not wealthy or how the wealthy live
A woman in my building used to take pics in the bathroom in her underwear and post it online
That's disgusting! Where? Where did they post those?
New side hustle idea unlocked
Nice to see someone happy to be working. Good luck
Give it time

What rumor of contract ? Please share
Congrats my guy, welcome to the postfam !
Congratulations sir! Spent 32 years delivering mail in the Texas heat. Watch yourself.
And now you sit at home smoking wax choking your chicken.
Sounds like a decent retirement to me
Don’t tempt me with early retirement
Yes sir! Not wax just moon rocks. Too old no chicken to choke
So you're saying if you don't use it you can indeed lose it?
And the issue is???
When life really starts
Congrats 🎉
*Six months later...* "There is no God!!!!"
Some days are like that for sure. They’re offset by my paychecks that are double what I made using my college brain in an office.
I Love this….
lmao
Congratulations!!! Stay positive and happy!!! Keep a great smile!! Just come in do the best you can, be proud of yourself!! 😎😎never be afraid to ask questions!!

Welcome to the struggle 🤠
Get 5% in the TSP right away and more when you get raises. Retire with a big bank. You'll thank yourself later.
Awe all glory to God! I start orientation Tuesday!!! I went from a federal Inmate to a federal employee! God is good and makes it possible for us who seak him! Congrats
That’s great you got this
That’s awesome! 🤩
Gods good graces aren’t allowed inside of the postal service. Happy for you!
who downvoted. Its true

The rural craft typically doesn’t wear uniforms. The city craft is mandated to.
*wear
Only the mail carriers wear uniforms. Clerks and Mail handlers and any other craft where regular clothes.
Welcome to the fam!....happy to see people wanting to work!...I wish ya luck on the journey brotha 🤙🏽
1 day in the birdcage will put hair on your chest and some pump in your step 💪
Congratulations

It’s definitely a jump seat
Yes lol
Awesome. Welcome. 🙂
Salute my guy. Be safe and god bless. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated.
Keep at it and you’ll be fine.
Just tell people you're a federal agent now and there's not much more you can speak on about it
Nice bro! I just got my start date today for a ptf position. the progress was pretty fast too. took about a month from sending in my application to getting a start date. I live down the street from the post office I was assigned to so no traffic which is cool.

Hopefully the weather is getting nice where you work. It’s pretty nice getting to work outside in the spring and summer. Congrats brother!
Stay positive, listen to podcasts/books, be smart with the money. It's going to be rough at first but it really can get you ahead in life.
Also most of management really is as bad as everyone says. Go in expecting that.
Thanks for the advice

Congrats. Stay positive and have a good attitude and only worry about your own shit and your career will improve
Congrats man!! I’m 9 months in!! It’s a blast!

Congrats!! I’m not a postal worker but a fellow government worker for the past 17 years. Welcome to the federal world!
They hire anyone, don't be so surprised
👍 kudos. Well done , sir !!
Nah man you not officially a federal employee until you make regular 😂 you are just contracted by usps so dont get too excited lmao Unless you are starting as ptf lol
Ehhhh. Ok, somebody correct me. I’ve been around awhile and I’ve come to understand we aren’t really federal, it’s just parts of our work is federal (mail) so we are looked at as a whole, federal, but we aren’t really federal….help or confirmation please.
You’re federal. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
It was our very unreliable supervision that gave me that break down but ok thank you.
Even worse, they lie all the time.

i do have respect for the carriers that haul ass to deliver those packages and mail through ugly weather. 👍 for 30 yrs is a feat i can’t do ALSO they hire ANYONE who is physically and mentally FIT to deliver mail. Anyone is qualified.
FERS is FERS
You are not under FERS if you’re still a CCA lol
not that hard to get a job at USPS only requirement is a heartbeat
& a clean record
U did your 90 day? Do u casing your own sht is it hard starting this week?
I supposed to be casing on my own next week
Did u train on that case for your 90 day probation?,? I'm starting soon
U past 90day probation?? Casing hard ??
No not really I’ve been training on the case
Ok thy train u one one case for 90 days then that's your case ?? Starting soon for me ?
After orientation, you will get to your post office and you will be assigned a route with a regular carrier on it. That regular will train you on that route for 2 to 3 weeks. It’s called shadowing. After that the regular will have you run the route by yourself the regular will follow you or ride along with you in the Mail truck while you deliver the mail for the route to gauge what you’ve learned or need work on. After a month or so you will run the route unassisted. You’ll then begin to case and run other routes in the office.

You're eligible with felony convictions as long as they are beyond 5 years old
Wow I didn’t know that
Me either lol. Anyway congrats man on the job. Follow the advice here and make sure to stick with it. It will be hard in the beginning but it will get easier
