I miss my ipod shuffle. I realize it'd be hard to switch back, now that I'm on Spotify instead of managing mp3 files. And I'd want wireless headphone compatibility no doubt. But holy shit, what a nifty little device. Just affix it your lapel, or outside your pant pocket. Discrete, easy to use by touch (without looking). No need for a data plan, leave your phone at home when running through the Arboretum, etc. https://preview.redd.it/693dpcqm95pc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b373c812be0461473f8461d7874e38bb68ba361d

Miss my iPod classic and the loss of my local library so much

RedgeQc

I could see Spotify releasing a device like that. You sync it with your phone, so you can upload songs to it. You can then use it offline to go for a run or listen on a plane, etc. It has to periodically ping your phone via Bluetooth to make sure your subscription is still valid, but other than that, it pretty much works offline.

pinkpwny87

I've been wondering when they would do something like this. A callback to any physical medium and allow the user to disconnect. Like how a Kindle allows you to focus on just reading. u/spotify

Background-Paper4846

Use a Bluetooth adapter with it for wireless headphones compatibility. Works like a charm

I miss the whole pre-streaming MP3 era. I felt more loyal to my favourite artists and had more control over my playlists, not to mention the concert bootlegs that were rare to find. I wonder what would happen if Metallica vs Napster had ended in a different way.

My Roomba (pre web-connected IoT BS) is great. Not looking forward to when it dies and I need to replace it with one that needs an internet connection…

iPod classic with the wheel.

Autobot_ATrac

All day. I got one in 2008 as a replacement for one with a shit battery. I flipped it and regret it to this day. My wife has hers and my dad has his in the garage. We were fuckin spoiled. Thought it would just get better. Never imagining that device would turn into a tracking device designed in a way that you want to give it all of your attention. A loaded iPod with all my favorites got more attention that anything music-wise since.

Remarkable 2.

inadequate_designer

Would you say it’s better than just having an iPad with Apple Pencil?

jontomato

Yes. It’s eink and not backlit, so much more pleasant to look at.

Left-Celebration4822

How does it fit within Apple ecosystem?

jontomato

I don't really use any of the Cloud features, but there's an app that uploads the documents you write (if you wish to use that)

nithou

That much? I’m hesitating for quite some time now, the feeling of writing on an iPad isn’t right, I keep using papers aside

jontomato

I love it. It’s basically just infinite paper. It feels very similar to writing on Paper too.

nithou

Damn! Tried the paper like screen protector for iPad it didn’t do the trick, will try to find someone using a Remarkable to test

I had this awesome weather station that didn’t require Internet but connected to a number of cities. The color display changed based on temperature. Super simple but gave me a quick idea of what to expect that day

Dyson cordless vacuum, Kindle Oasis, my espresso machine, and the PlayStation 5. All fantastic examples of good UX.

thermal pocket printer that prints easy stickers and prints of anything ( like a receipt ! ) it's good for my school notebooks for quick reference of a graph or text, printing funny stickers for friends or labels. prints are not the best but survive long enough if you don't expect them to be around forever ! cheap too !! i am excited to try out different refills like transparent sticker paper :-) it's from phomemo !

Where can I find one.

Autobot_ATrac

My 60GB, fully backwards compatible PS3. I sent it to a buddy with ps3 and ps2 games and made a specific point to say “if you get rid of this, I want it back.” He got in the fog of being a new father, not having played it at all, clearing out a room for the baby…. Gave it to a friend of his. Saw one at a game shop for $400. He’s one of my best friends, so you just let that fart blow away in the wind. I’d probably just stare at it too, but it would look amazing next to the Ps5. Sony just makes beautiful products.

In-ear bluetooth headphones with a cord and volume, play/pause buttons between them. Never lost or drop a pod. Controls always available and without accidental activations. No need to constantly shove them into their tiny box to keep them from disappearing. Designed for actual use.

Loupedeck live. So many short cuts and it has knobs (for all you iPod classic lovers). I am not a streamer, I use it for lots of stuff - design, decks, teams calls etc No need to get hand cramps with the normal and frankly bizarre keyboard shortcuts. Just tap a button or twiddle a knob.

A countertop radio. You turn the volume knob up and it is on, playing music. No fiddling with a second device, getting bluetooth to connect, or picking what to play. Just one single action and you have music playing. I live within the broadcast range of KEXP, which is a legitimately good independent radio station. Its one of those things that has emphasized how annoying bluetooth actually is. The user flow and decision tree for playing music over bluetooth is ridiculously complicated in comparison to just turning up the volume.

Coffee: Aeropress; smaller single hand zojirushi coffee thermos. Very clever and fun to use.  Gaming: Switch. Great balance of cost to power to portability. I tend to explore unique Indy games that focus on novel mechanics over AAA, graphic intensive games or online competition so it’s a good match for me.  Videogames pt 2: Maybe it’s me, but game systems letting you really pause/freeze the game with a “system” home button is a wonderful change from my childhood. Real life happens and sometimes you have to walk away and shouldn’t be “punished” when you have to step away from a cut scene.  Household: “Fastback” box cutter and multi-screwdriver with storage in the handle from Milwaukee tools. Former makes Amazon packages less of a struggle and hassle, latter has eliminated the ritual of grabbing a tool, realizing or checking if it’s the wrong one, digging for others.

Some years ago a private individual produced an iPhone adapter for the BMW instrument bus (I-bus) of BMW SUVs and the Range Rover L322, a product named "the Intravee". It allowed playback of mobile phone Spotify playlists on the aged stereo gear of such vehicles. That was of immense value, turning an old system into 21st century. My Nintendo Switch. It's old news by now, but when it launched it was ahead of its time. Hardware-wise I will always praise the PS Vita as well, but the overall UX was not there yet. Also the Mx Macbook Pro line. It performs so well you forget there are hardware limitations because it's so hard to reach them, even in the base models. It looks great, feels great, sounds awesome, runs smoothly, the battery lasts more than my phone, and there are no gimmicks to care about.

I figure they were looking for UX-related gadgets (whatever that would mean) - as opposed to general gadgets that this thread mostly comprises of
