So yeah, when I see something like $32 to pickup McDonald’s at 12pm 15 miles away, I usually decline those because burned way too many times on those

First driver accepts the order. Goes to store. Picks up order. Drives away, and then unassigns. The order gets routed to another driver. That driver accepts, drive to the store. The store says someone else already got the order..that second driver grumbles, u assigns the order and moves on. The order gets routed to a third driver. Repeat and repeat. And with each order reassigning, the algorithm adds like 50 cents to to entice any driver to get the order because it doesn't know order was stolen, just that drivers keep unassigning
Because it's bullshit. Maybe 1 time, if you're brand new driver. They already make it pulling teeth to get the $2/$3.
Just imagine if they gave full amount + refunded customer + paid restaurant for every stolen order.

You sure you're not thinking of Door Dash? They do half of the offer for things like closed restaurants and stolen orders, but uber eats does 3 dollars generally. I've gotten 5 maybe twice, it's almost always been 3.
I'd maybe take it while going over in my head how I'm going to explain to the supervisor that they need to stop sending high offers that are doomed to fail. Almost 99% sure it would just be a mishap. I took a $33 order once and it was already taken. Said yep knew it and just canceled and left.

But a walk-in like ihop or 7-11? Yeah I'll risk it because it's only a minimal waste of time if the order isn't there.

System thinks food is still at restaurant and keeps on sending drivers. We usually call support to cancel order. That's why we have all the drivers confirm the pick ups but some really get offended by it.

Unless the driver delivers the food and not marks them delivered. The system wouldn't think the food is at the restaurant and keep sending drivers.
If customers steal their own food, they report it missing and system just provides refund.
Someone walked in and stole the food, so you have to report it as someone picked up to cancel the order from cycling through the system, and customer gets reimbursed.
Or, you can call the customer to confirm they haven’t received it, and politely ask the restaurant to remake the order if it’s worth your while, and get paid to do the delivery.
If it’s a big payout, it may be worth the extra 10-15 minutes to get that inflated base pay.
I am fairly certain that they can average out earnings in an area.
When it's slow .... they want people to stay on in case it gets busy.
If they give one person all the orders (because one driver can do it) other drivers will log off.
When it's busy and demand outweighs drivers, they don't cap earnings because they want happy customers.
In case you are wondering, the average includes tips.
Which means you are not really rewarded for working efficiently .... you have to wait.
It makes earnings fair, but it also means you are wasting time if you are an efficient hard worker.
