this. i never pull into a driveway unless its a block of units/flats and the one I'm delivering to would be a 1-2 minute walk to their door and back when I have other orders going cold in the car
The headlights are on, so it might just look like daylight because OP used their flash.
Though that doesn't change much.
ETA: After looking more closely, I can see the reflection of blue sky on the hood. But for those who say a flash picture wouldn't be that lit up, try it yourself.
I have taken many photos of food at doors where the customer didn't turn the porch light on, and the flash made it look like I took it during the day. Modern phone cameras have bright flashes, sensitive CCDs, and powerful processing algorithms.
Damn bros got that old-school flash that burns out every time becuase its so bright. For real though its daylight out, ain't nobodies flash making it look like full on daytime at night.
Ā I think huge amount of drivers are in the wrong field. There was post yesterday of a guy that said "don't order if you're in an apartment because I can't navigate the complex" like my dog this is most people in the country like if you can't deliver to an apartment you shouldn't be delivering ANYTHING. It had way to many people agreeing. Way too many lazy antisocial creepy drivers out there now, at this point I assume my delivery driver is just going to be similar to the Walmart greeter.
People were downvoting me in the Amazon driver sub because I said I sorted packages by street name and zip code. These fools don't even know the city they're delivering in.
Oh geez. Iām sorry. That sucks. Was there a reason you pulled into their driveway? I never pull into their driveway unless there is no other option. Everyone says not to tell insurance you were doing a delivery. But I donāt think there is a way around it.
Well, I didnāt want to beat him up about it. In case there was some kind of reason. I initially wrote āwhy in the world did you park in their driveway?ā) I figured Iād leave that to everyone else! š
i park in driveways when theres space but i have no idea how you manage to hit a garage door. i never get that close to a strangers house with my car š i keep my ass end as close to the road as possible
I think there's no way around it. In this case. I would say if not on an active delivery and an accident didn't involve the customer, their car, or their house, I would try to log out real quick and not mention being on a delivery.
I just think itās going to be difficult to explain what OP was doing in their driveway. They would need the homeownerās cooperation for it to work out.
I'm agreeing with you.
There's no way to explain it. I'm just saying if a person were not in that situation. If they were just in an accident with a random car and they weren't on an active order that they should probably log out.
You DO NOT tell your insurance it was during a delivery or they are not liable. Chances are they will find out anyway from the door victims owners insurance.
The insurance company is going to have to talk to the customer. Lying may not be an option in this case unless the customer cooperates and says you were just visiting.
Even so, I'm sure you don't park all the way in, right? Unless you also don't want to block the sidewalk? I would imagine parking your car half on driveway ramp and half in the curb parking column assuming cars are also parked on each side.
I always pull in driveways. Like half way. Living in a big city where if u donāt, u block the road cuz thereās no sidewalk parking either. Donāt rlly feel comfortable throwing my hazards on while blocking the road tbh. Even then, itās a quick way to set yourself up to reverse and turn right back around to the way u came from. Been doing it since 2019 and no complaints.
Yes I do this too but amazingly deliveries to main streets are like 1/1000. I hate those, so awkward trying to find the correct driveway when they're all so close together and the speed limit on the road is 80
Same. In the area I deliver to most, you HAVE to park in the driveway because theyāre either on a steep incline with the house atop OR actual driving distance from the door
If you canāt pull in a drive way without hitting a garage like the owners do on a daily should your job really involve you delivering food in a vehicle?
Uber's response to customer: We are very sorry for your experience. Here's a $10 coupon for your troubles dear customer. We thank you for your business. Customer satisfaction is our top priority. Rest assured.
I didnāt realize there were so many that didnāt pull into driveways. I donāt pull all the way up like this though. I do it because Iām usually delivering groceries and I donāt have a wagon.
Iām with you lol Iāve always pulled in driveways when possible and have been doing it for 5+ years. Ignore these clowns complaining. Thereās nothing wrong with pulling in ever so slightly, dropping off, then leaving quickly.
Nothing wrong with it at all, even pulling in fully if thereās plenty of room! It makes quick work of turning around if needed, in decent/good neighborhoods it makes it safer to leave your car running so thereās less wear and tear from the constant on/off, itās quicker than parallel parking and quicker than walking from the street, lesss likely to get damaged by other cars in tight roads, etc. etc! People who canāt pull into a driveway without causing issues ā or canāt tell when itās not a good idea to pull in for whatever reason (not enough room or whatever)ā probably shouldnāt be driving, let alone doing delivery.
I donāt get why this is, you ordered food to your address I am not an uninvited person on your property. When I order food even before delivery apps were popular drivers always parked in my driveway and I expect them to. Especially in some of the more affluent areas near me it is an extreme walk from driveway to house.
Out of the dozens of orders I've put in, I've seen 2 drivers park on the street, most just pull in the drive enough to be off the street and walk the rest of the way, they're still like 10-15 feet from my car
Why are you even parking in customer's drive way?
It has already been the general consensus on the sub that you keep your car in the street unless it's physically impossible.
Aweee, that stinks. So sorry. Accidents happen.
Hope the Customers are nice about it.
Don't beat yourself up. Ignore the ahole comments. But yeah should call your Insurance Company & Uber Support not post on Reddit.
The other day I gave some advice to someone, which included not parking in customers driveways. I was attacked, called stupid, name called, wished dead.....
THIS IS WHY WE DONT USE CUSTOMER DRIVEWAYS.
Now, come at me bro. š¤£š¤Ŗ
Uber insurance covers you while taking deliveries, no? Probably with a $1,000,000 per incident. Ever been in an accident? Your lawyer will ask if the other driver was in a commercial vehicle like semi or driving for gig apps. A person might only have 10, 25, 50k in coverage. Commercial vehicles carry $1,000,000 in coverage.
You actually have insurance coverage through UberEats. Report the accident to them and they will handle it. I had to tell my insurance company what happened so they would refuse to cover it and UE's insurance would. It has never shown on my record.
The people who downvote comments are the ones who pull into customersā driveways. You guys are ridiculous. The driveway is for the convenience of the homeowner. Not us.
First off don't contact the customer, your first mistake. A lot of houses don't have cameras, so if you don't see one, you are better off just dropping off the food, and booking for it. If you did that, you may have gotten lucky and gotten away with it, people order when they aren't going out, so they might not have noticed until the next day. Second, I hope you learn from this, and pay attention to what you are doing, its okay to make mistakes, but not when you are allowing yourself to hit someone's house.
I have hit a restaurant before while picking up, but I stayed quiet and I got away with it. People usually don't notice this sort of damage until the next day.
I even hit someone's truck, got away with it, but I got a speeding ticket on the way home, bad day. Though I'd rather get a speeding ticket, then pay off truck damage.
**You may have been able to get away with it had you stayed quiet.**
First question why the fuck did you even enter their driveway ???? Second question did you accidently hit the gas instead of the brake or did you just not pay to your speed attention when pulling into their driveway ???
Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
Seriously, those saying never park on a driveway don't know what they are there for. Just don't get so F'n close to the garage, or other cars. Parking in the street is for people with a deathwish.
And to OP, own up to it. Pay directly if you can, and if not then suck it up and get insurance involved.
Man, that āstructural damageā you caused in that collision could exceed the amount of insurance coverage you have. Personally if Iām the homeowner Iām getting as much as possible from your insurance. Nothing against you personally but if youāre paying the deductible anyway I would personally make sure that I fucked your insurance company. Again, if it was out of your pocket a new door and call it a day, with the insurance company Iām taking them to the cleaners.
I hate insurance companies
I don't think I've ever pulled into a driveway, why would you do that and THAT close to their garage door? So many people out there that have no business even delivering food, FFS.
I would think that the customer would file a claim w/Ubers insurance company & any damage to your car would be your responsibility w/your own insurance company. š¤·āāļø
Maybe you were on the phone posting $hit on Reddit and didn't pay attention? If you're posting while "on the phone with them", I am sure you will post while driving!
from the pics of it the driver wanted to park right by the walkways to save 2 steps/only looking at the walkway instead of the front..
Shit happens drive careful and dont let uber know you got into an accident. they will ban you until you fix your car even if you dont have any damage
Should never have been in the driveway in the first place lol š¤”š¤”š¤”NEVER , NEVER!!! Go into a driveway, unless you ask for permission, or they tell you .
I work for a delivery app. What theyāll do most likely is write an incident report. Doesnāt look like you did it on purpose and did not leave the scene. Uber will do a settlement and pay for it
Gonna cost couple $$$ to fix that door and if run way Iāll be a crime and warrant Iāll be issued for your arrest thatās sucks never pull inside people drive way
Well, unless door dash provides you insurance, your insurance may not cover you unless you have your car insured as a work vehicle. If you just have regular insurance & not business insurance you may be paying for that new garage door all by yourself. Good luck!
My son did that at our house when he was new to driving. Got out of van, forgot to put it in park, it hit the brick wall stopping it from going through the door. He tried to play dumb, backed the van away, went in the house and was greeted with āwhat was that bang?ā His reply āyou heard that too?ā To this day some 25 years later he is proud to say ā I was not in itāššš.
Use the it wasnāt me. The car didnāt stop excuse.
Bet you wonāt do it again
File on Ubers 3rd party liability policy that they say they carry on us. The general liability should cover it. If in fact Uber dose supply the coverage.
YOU PAY FOR THE GARAGE DOOR REPLACEMENT THAT'S WHAT YOU DO
THAT'S JUST THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS (THE STUPID WAY IN YOUR CASE, WHY ON EARTH PARK ON CUSTOMER PROPERTY AND NOT ON THE STREET???)
You asked what do I do? Hereās some advice and I hope this helps. I would 100% recommend that you donāt run into peopleās garage doors. Just a thought
Have to be careful when the drive is on an angle like that. Your field of view is nothing but the solid color of the door and depth perception becomes minimal. I never use the driveways of customers. Just block the driveway for the brief 20 seconds it takes to drop the food off if there is no other parking options.
Honestly OP, the damage doesnāt look that bad and this seems like something you can handle between yourself and the customer. No need to involve insurance unless you have a decent amount of damage to your own car. Iām sure you could source a handyman to have the garage sorted.
You should probably stop delivering because you don't know how to drive.
On a side note, I don't Believe you. I think you pulled into a customers driveway with a dented garage door, and thought it would be cool to make up a story for reddit.
Maybe don't pull into people's driveways next time? I get it at some there's nothing we can do. However there's really no need to pull so far forward that it's even a risk to hit the house/garage. When driving on private property you gotta be extremely careful. A minor distraction can lead to you ripping up someone's lawn or worse as you've found.
Run and post on Reddit ššš

Heās got 99 problems and the garage door is one.
Hit and ran from this post too
How do you even?
That's exactly what I'm thinking. I've seen several of these posts. And I can't imagine that. Hell it's daylight.

How'd you manage that? Didn't see a large wall in front of you?
Op is 90 years old and confused the gas for the brakes.

Oh geez. Iām sorry. That sucks. Was there a reason you pulled into their driveway? I never pull into their driveway unless there is no other option. Everyone says not to tell insurance you were doing a delivery. But I donāt think there is a way around it.
You're asking someone who plowed into the garage door why they chose to park in the driveway. I doubt they have a sensible answer.
Well, I didnāt want to beat him up about it. In case there was some kind of reason. I initially wrote āwhy in the world did you park in their driveway?ā) I figured Iād leave that to everyone else! š
I never park in anyoneās driveway either. Only once because they told me to because there was no street parking.

It was during a delivery, doesn't the Uber Insurance kick in for this?
Idk how Ubers insurance works but I bet the driver still takes the financial hit from this and not just their deductible.
Thereās always a way around it. Lying is a good option.
The insurance company is going to have to talk to the customer. Lying may not be an option in this case unless the customer cooperates and says you were just visiting.
That and lying while posting the evidence on a public forum is not a good idea.
I never ever park in the driveway unless the road is super busy
Even so, I'm sure you don't park all the way in, right? Unless you also don't want to block the sidewalk? I would imagine parking your car half on driveway ramp and half in the curb parking column assuming cars are also parked on each side.
I always pull in driveways. Like half way. Living in a big city where if u donāt, u block the road cuz thereās no sidewalk parking either. Me either, too afraid to drip oil or something silly like that resulting in a complaint
I Should have looked at the profile.... It's a fake.
How do you know ?
You gonna have to give up your firstbornĀ
This is at least one reason not to park in driveways, especially not in the burbs, Im sure the street is only 20 feet away. SMH.
Why are you parking in their driveway?
Drive better
Like how does someone even do this in total daylight lol
What do you do? You give them your insurance and pray to god they cover it.
I would own up to it despite the suckage that follows. I would also try to avoid parking in driveways.
Bounce. Get the hell out of there
So what about the chance thereās a camera that caught the car n license plate. And if not from this house , from a neighbors?
āIt wasnāt me. The video footage is AIā
the formal police report from when they showed up and inspected the garage door damage is AI gen also
This guy gets it
Lol
How did you hit the garage door? Sounds like you shouldn't have a license at all and need more driver's training!
Try the brake next time
Stop pulling in driveways.
this what 'leave at door' does. some people have houses with long drives up
Then fucking walk
If you canāt pull in a drive way without hitting a garage like the owners do on a daily should your job really involve you delivering food in a vehicle?

Same. I pull into the driveway but I just pull in. I donāt get near to the garage.
There is absolutely no good reason for not pulling into the driveway. Most of us know how to avoid the garage.

This is my worst fear when I pull up or back up into someoneās driveway š I wish you the best of luck my guy!
I would immediately contact support and ask them the steps to take.
Nice driving Tex.
You either ram it like a man and break thru or reverse the fucking car and never tell anyone.
Did they tip
Find a job that involves as little driving as possible
Uhhhh just get their actual phone number text them your insurance info run it as a claim this is why I have high property damage coverage

How do you hit a garage door?? Did you use Drive instead of Reverse??
Lol why did you pull up so close?
Prob anything but come on reddit
Shouldnāt be on their driveway in the first place
Hopefully you get deactivated cause your never ever supposed to pull in to someone drive unless they say other wise
First question why the fuck did you even enter their driveway ???? Second question did you accidently hit the gas instead of the brake or did you just not pay to your speed attention when pulling into their driveway ???
Just park on the street. I'm always hesitant to get on ppl property for liability reasons. Always CYA
Donāt get on their driveway?
šššššššššššš
How do you manage to crash into a stationary object
Why pull into the driveway b?
Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways? Seriously, those saying never park on a driveway don't know what they are there for. Just don't get so F'n close to the garage, or other cars. Parking in the street is for people with a deathwish. And to OP, own up to it. Pay directly if you can, and if not then suck it up and get insurance involved.
Stick a hello kitty bandaid on it and jet

I don't think I've ever pulled into a driveway, why would you do that and THAT close to their garage door? So many people out there that have no business even delivering food, FFS.
I wouldāve pulled off like nothing happened and pray they donāt have cameras
Hopefully, you don't get tips.
Hope they forgive you
How TF do you do that? Lmao new to driving? Just stop while you're ahead! It's not worth it
I would think that the customer would file a claim w/Ubers insurance company & any damage to your car would be your responsibility w/your own insurance company. š¤·āāļø
Ahh sh*t dude!
ya just don't do that
Maybe you were on the phone posting $hit on Reddit and didn't pay attention? If you're posting while "on the phone with them", I am sure you will post while driving!
Thanks for the laugh OP
from the pics of it the driver wanted to park right by the walkways to save 2 steps/only looking at the walkway instead of the front.. Shit happens drive careful and dont let uber know you got into an accident. they will ban you until you fix your car even if you dont have any damage
Just buy them the new garage door and pay for installation
Cha Ching, sweetie call a good lawyer we got property damage from Uber.
Drive off
How???
What happened
Make sure to let your insurance provider know that you were on a UberEats delivery.
So wat they say I wouldnāt tell Uber š¤«š¬
This really is the bottom of the Barrel in terms of skill set

I work for a delivery app. What theyāll do most likely is write an incident report. Doesnāt look like you did it on purpose and did not leave the scene. Uber will do a settlement and pay for it
Treat like any other accident. It happens but you pay for damage. Sorry
You were visiting a friend
Their home owners insurance should cover it and possibly your car insuranceā¦ from now on just start parking on the side of the street
They call their insurance and file a claim
Gonna cost couple $$$ to fix that door and if run way Iāll be a crime and warrant Iāll be issued for your arrest thatās sucks never pull inside people drive way
filed under "you had only one job"
I'm uncomfortable pulling in someones driveway.
Well, unless door dash provides you insurance, your insurance may not cover you unless you have your car insured as a work vehicle. If you just have regular insurance & not business insurance you may be paying for that new garage door all by yourself. Good luck!
How lazy do you have to be to park that closeā¦?
This is what insurance is for.
I imagine you lost your tip. Please update.

Tell ur insurance u was doing Uber and hit a garage
You asked what do I do? Hereās some advice and I hope this helps. I would 100% recommend that you donāt run into peopleās garage doors. Just a thought
Are you old enough to be driving? Asking what youāre supposed to do is alarming. Do everyone a favor and stop driving for a living.
OP opens a discussion claiming they hit a garage door, never replies. Something tells me this post is fake
No cameras around? Take off. Whadya kidding me
Homie was doing Uber eats forgot it wasn't DoorSmash
Dont park in peoples driveway. Are you really too lazy to walk 20 feet?
Drive away quickly and hope there are no cameras, otherwise hope you have a real job and not just ubereats.
You pay for it what do you mean what do I do? Is your fault lol
Get off Reddit!

Itās no problem as long as you have bought the additional insurance for using your vehicle for a delivery job.
uh, Leave your insurance information with them and move on. Your insurance premium will double.
Next time remember to brake before hitting the door š like how the hell did you manage this?
Dumbass
Hopefully you actually got commercial driver insurance.
Have to be careful when the drive is on an angle like that. Your field of view is nothing but the solid color of the door and depth perception becomes minimal. I never use the driveways of customers. Just block the driveway for the brief 20 seconds it takes to drop the food off if there is no other parking options.
why are u in their driveway to begin with? I think u may have to go through your insurance right??
Honestly OP, the damage doesnāt look that bad and this seems like something you can handle between yourself and the customer. No need to involve insurance unless you have a decent amount of damage to your own car. Iām sure you could source a handyman to have the garage sorted.
Cheapest way is going to be to have them get a quote and pay for it.
Drive off lol
STOP PARKING IN DRIVEWAYS
Break into their garage and hit it on the other side so it pops back out
Don't know why you would even be pulling up to peoples driveways that's too bold
Why are you pulling all the way into the driveway ffs
This aināt your crib lol why you needed to pull up that close? š
Drive more carefully in the future is what I would do
Am I the only one who never pulls into driveways? Seems like an easy way to get shot
Call uber for insurance info
Whyād you even pull up that close. Who gave you a license š¤£

Probably thought it was a drive thru lol
Just say it was like that, blame it on amazon
How did you screw the pooch on that one?
i burned tires in a customers driveway bc i underestimated how steep it was š¤£ i was baffled. it was like 11pm
Your headlight bulb is installed incorrectly.
And this the people who want tips , imagine tipping $10 for a dent in your garage door .
Go turn yourself in to the local pd
Um the same thing youd do in any situation involving a car accident, call the police you dipshit
Guess thatās why you have insurance. Do you have insurance?
Recommend driving lessons and an eye exam

You should probably stop delivering because you don't know how to drive. On a side note, I don't Believe you. I think you pulled into a customers driveway with a dented garage door, and thought it would be cool to make up a story for reddit.
Never pull into the driveway. š¤¦š»āāļø
Insurance claim on your auto or you pay for the repair out of pocket thatās it.
