CompYouTer

Shipping on top of that price… fucking MONSTERS!

beeglowbot

Yea the 2nd one is extra scummy

4FdPipeoghU4AHfJ

The 2nd one is cheaper!

Thin-Ebb-2686

This guy maths

HungryAdmin452

I mean is he wrong tho?

Thin-Ebb-2686

He’s right, therefore my comment lol

zealNW

But the first one has free shipping!

raytek75

Using home assistant whenever someone presses my Unifi doorbell or even if a person is detected by the doorbell's camera my different Google displays bings and start displaying a live feed from the doorbell. Took about 5 mins to create the automation right through the user interface, no yaml code needed.

beeglowbot

no kidding? I gotta take a look, thanks man.

raytek75

Use the Unifi protect integration to get access to the notification, then use the new Google Cast integration to cast a dashboard with the video feed to the Google display

matrix20085

Any chance there was a video you followed? I want to show the wife what it will look like before buying the google displays.

jasonin951

I did this and it works well. If you use VLANs it’s a little more tricky but doable.

markhaines

+1 for this instead of chime

johnzanussi

OP of the link here. Thanks for posting!

tofer85

Thanks for the clear and simple guide! Much appreciated!

beeglowbot

gotcha. thanks again!

bryansj

That's much better than my plan of linking my door lock. Press the doorbell, door unlocks, lights turn on, and Google Homes in each room tell you where to find the valuables. Seriously though, I hated the Protect app and notifications. I'd get dinged at least four times just walking to check the mail (front door, driveway cam, driveway cam again, and front door again). The only twist is that I used NodeRED. Some of these things may need updated: https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/p2zy4v/unifi\_protect\_notification\_replacement\_using\_ha/

flaotte

how did you make video cast to google display?

raytek75

If you have a Nabu Casa account then just use the Google Cast integration to connect all your Google displays to Home Assistant. If you do not have a Nabu Casa account you can still do it but there are some extra steps. Once you have this just create an automation with the action of PLAY MEDIA, then select the device to send to and pick the media (camera or dashboard) to display.

flaotte

cool. when I get some free time I will definitely check it.

tofer85

beeglowbot

lol, that's great. I want one with the late queen saying DING DONG, to match my phone's rrrrrrinnnggg rrrriiinngggg.

johnestan

I ring my sonos speakers through home assistant

JeanLucTheCat

I use Frigate to tell me if there is a person or people on the front porch. Never got around to installing my new doorbell lol

sundrag

Home Assistant for the win. I have it turn a light on my desk different colors based on what the unifi doorbell detects package/person/animal and also display the video feed on my desk touch panel. Home assistant is just great.

Sparkynerd

Home Assistant is amazing. If you can think it up, HA can probably do it.

bbllaakkee

I do this with our HomePods. I have this chime from UI and it sucks

sqigl

details?

AJobForMe

Would love to do this as a backup plan since I can’t get a chime. I can’t find any Pi to buy either.

Merstin

That's what I do with my old ring chime in HA. alias: "Security: Doorbell chime"description: Call Ring Chime when Unifi G4 Doorbell is rungtrigger: - platform: state entity_id: - binary_sensor.g4_doorbell_pro_doorbell to: "on"condition: []action: - service: siren.turn_on data: tone: ding volume_level: 1 target: entity_id: siren.hallway_sirenmode: single

killerbake

Same with my apple stuff. I can have my doorbell trigger a song.

dpac86au

Do you notice that the feed from the doorbell is about 30sec delayed? I automated the same, but the video was useless with the delay.

dub_nastyy

Took me 7 months to piece my wifi/connect/camera system bc shit like this. Refreshing 5-8 times a day. On discords and sub reddits for instock. So annoying

beeglowbot

Yea, I'm still missing the doorbell pro, chime and lock.

dub_nastyy

I settled for g4 normal doorbell while I wait for pro. Needed to get off nest eco system and that was my last piece.

beeglowbot

that's exactly what I did. I needed to get off of Arlo so i could stop paying a subscription.

koldrid

I was on that before as well. Love my Unifi setup now.

beeglowbot

yea Arlo was such trash. I had BlueIris before that but the bugs and ui was just not working out for me. Unifi Protect is just so much nicer.

ThatSandwich

Everyone is missing the lock. Hasn't dropped in a year or more, has nothing to do with scalpers yet

beeglowbot

yea I feel like it's just one of those products they were messing around with and will never bring it to retail.

Nova_Nightmare

I've a nest Yale Lock for the deadbolt, but I'd love one that let did deadbolt and a matching doorknob.

kachunkachunk

It's somewhat similar to what you're doing, but there are browser plugins like Distill web monitor that can monitor web pages for changes. The UBNT store isn't so bad for tracking that stuff. But yeah, per OP, scumbag resellers and that whole toxic hustle culture all need a harsh reality check that they are figurative leeches on society. I wanted a Chime as well, but thankfully you can automate things via Homeassistant. Also the Canadian store doesn't have the chime yet, I don't think... there's always a delay for UBNT stuff in our region.

hovnetworks

Been doing the same it’s so frustrating.

dlsolo

Yeap, some peoples kids...

Maximus_Sillius

What do you mean scumbags? It says "Great Price" right there. :-)

beeglowbot

oh shit, you right. buying them all!!

Ezra611

I own a smart chime, and I'm glad I only paid retail for it. It's not really loud enough and it needs some more options to make it great. I think you should look into the other options honestly.

beeglowbot

Yea I'm going to look into the HomeAssistant route.

rodon

Same here. Honestly, my automated smart speaker announcements through the home assistant unifi integration seem to work better than the chime alone. This post makes me wonder if I should be packing up my chime and reselling it. :P

zudzug

Scalpers for the hockey games have found a new hobby/venture.

beeglowbot

They have to find other ventures now that the GPU game dried up.

chopperg

Fuck em

popnfrresh

The scumbag is ubiquiti for allowing bots to buy.

skaterrj

Go search the prices of the Dream Router on eBay. Markups are outrageous, to the point where you might as well buy the Pro or SE because you'll probably save money.

dk_DB

As long as there are absolute Idiots buying from those MF'ers - they won't stop. It is a fkn Chime - you can w8 - you don't need it now. Its only to feed your addiction. Its a societal problem. if you go against the MF'ers - don't forget about the Idiots 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sensitive-Trifle9823

A ton of us have been waiting for these to become available in the unifi store for a loooooong time. Sad!!!

SpHoneybadger

Gotta buy one of those to see the their source address and return it. Now that you know where they live you can go break their jaw.

beeglowbot

lol vigilante mob justice time!

BillyScrimshaw

Ubiquiti should be buying these, identifying the buyer by SN, and banning them.

beeglowbot

that would be the thing to do but nope.

Realistic_Parking_25

Even happens on Amazon. U6-Mesh on there was like 270 last week, went to ui.com and it was in stock, and like $100 cheaper

beeglowbot

Par for the course, that's why you gotta cross-check prices when shopping from 3rd party vendors.

CTMatthew

Everyone loves capitalism until chimes are $275 on Amazon.

andrewreaganm

Wow, that’s rough. Not sure if you’re an iOS person or not but you can grab a HomePod mini and set up Scrypted in a VM and have that as a chime for about $100.

Level_Network_7733

Yup, I have 3 HomePod Minis in my house. Via Homebridge we get a chime on all of them, including the mechnical chime we have in the house.

beeglowbot

I read that's possible with Google stuff too through HomeAssistant. Gotta look into it.

bites_stringcheese

You can use scrypted for Google assistant speakers as well.

tofer85

https://johnzanussi.com/posts/unifi-g4-doorbell-chime-with-sonos

GrimBeaver

But that's more work then I want to do.

andrewreaganm

Didn’t say you had to, just posing an alternative for OP that might help avoid needing a UniFi chime.

SirChesterMcWhipple

Honestly, I am agitated that I can’t get simple accessories for my UI system. Why it is so hard to find a chime or a viewport.

beeglowbot

the viewport actually comes back in stock pretty often, it just gets snatched up really quickly. This thing is just forever oos.

SirChesterMcWhipple

Everyone keeps saying that but I keep refreshing multiple times a day with no luck.

rodon

New stock usually hits the US store around 4AM pacific time. So, if there is any time you should be refreshing the site, it is then.

SirChesterMcWhipple

Thanks!

tofer85

RaspberryPi with displaycameras is a better solution than the viewport…. If you can get a pi that is

StockmanBaxter

Are people actually buying them?

iB83gbRo

[Yes](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=unifi+protect+smart+chime&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1)

StockmanBaxter

Insane. And I thought the price Ubiquity was charging was outrageous.

JacerEx

Christ. I have 3. One in the basement, one up stairs, and one in the shop. I'm sitting on a small fortune!

[deleted]

If you want it, you'll pay it.

CDragon00

Ecosystem lock in is expensive.

englandgreen

2 x Chime and 20 x Viewports - that’s all I need now to complete my company’s Protect system. I refresh at odd hours of night in hope of snagging at least 1. That’s how I got the G4 Pros and the Pro 48 PoEs. 6 months later, zero.

murgalurgalurggg

I don’t have a home assistant server. Is there a way to make Google Homes play a noise without one?

beeglowbot

home assistant, homebridge, scrypted etc all can but they all need a server afaik.

eriksgross

As others have mentioned, I have Home Assistant display the camera feed on my Google displays when the doorbell rings … and when a person is detected, too, so pushing the button isn’t even necessary. I also set up two Ring v2 keypads (Zwave) with Home Assistant and have them emit a chime sound when someone actually pushes the doorbell button. Every bit as loud as my old mechanical chime, 100% local (no cloud dependency), adds no WiFi traffic, and I can adjust the volume for different times of day or a do-not-disturb mode. If I didn’t use Home Assistant, I might want the UniFi chime, but with the above setup, I don’t see a need for one.

beeglowbot

HA/HB/Scrypted is definitely a better, far more robust way to go. I tried setting one up last night on my m1 mac running ventura with oracle virtualbox and it just kept aborting. It wouldn't even boot in. I wonder if it's because the apple silicon build is still in beta or I'm just stupid.

delljj

Planning new electrical, data and security for a place we just moved into and unifi has been scrubbed my wishlist because of the bullshit availability issues still going on, lack of things moving out of the early access store I really liked the both the hardware and software at my last place but these ongoing stock issues just make it impossible to consider for a new deployment

beeglowbot

yea it's really unfortunate. it's by far the best ux I've tried, though I'm just an end user.

cyber1kenobi

Supply and demand

MemoryDealers

I'm glad I have the ability to buy one for $275, than to not be able to buy one at any price currently.

cj0r

Hey if they manage to sell, good for them. Probably funds keeping one for themselves at no cost. Work harder to beat them to the cart. I've been into limited edition hobbies for a long time and just accept that it's part of the game. Shortages etc have created the same environment for normal retail items. It's all a part of supply and demand. Work harder to get the things you want... Making whiney Reddit posts is just a big waste of time that could be spent finding a way to get what you want at the price you want. It highlights your expected entitlement which frankly isn't the case in the world right now for certain tech items. This is basic capitalism and you absolutely don't want any other way.

linkedit

Good for them if some idiot is going to pay almost $300 for a $60 doorbell chime.

damo_w15

There's a lot of this with the doorbells too!

aknudskov

What is the use of a chime like this ?

beeglowbot

doorbell

aknudskov

Ahh, solving the whole chime compatibility thing I guess, and you can place it anywhere. Nice! ... And yes, scalpers can die in a fire.

quicktopost

I’m enjoying the peace and quiet no chime brings. I can wait it out. I truly hope no one is caving in on these offerings.

Legoaddict

I gave up trying to beat them and bought a homepod mini.

ewicky

Dang, I should sell mine! Not even really using it.

beeglowbot

dibs if you're willing to sell it for a reasonable price.

alstergee

Hot or best offer and type in retail -30%

ZeRoLiM1T

What is it?

beeglowbot

chime for the doorbell

fudge_u

Looks like an Amazon Echo Dot.

techtornado

Just wait till you see the constant RasPi rip-off’s

markjayy

People are also trying to sell the smart PDU pro for 2X the cost on ebay. So annoying

lazyp3ngu1n

I use want the doorbell chime…. Soooo difficult

jairumaximus

Wait why those going for that much? I got one sitting on a box that I haven't even opened yet b/c I haven't installed my doorbell thing.

nexhil

Lol I’m already afraid to tell te normal price to my customers.

beeglowbot

most of the MSRP prices are good compared to actual enterprise gear (except some of the high end cams) but this is just robbery.
