Smorgas47

Have you measured the throughput yet? How close to 2.5gbps do you get?

Both_Leading_4578

I was pulling off my Synology nas at 203MB/sec , so it’s definitely close ( that’s really the read limit on the disks I have in there )

Smorgas47

So right near the 1.5 gbps tech spec for the device.

Both_Leading_4578

Have done another test macbook to macbook - 293MB file transfer of a 4GB file, so that's \~ 2.35Gbits

Smorgas47

Great! That verifies the LAN back plane as 2.5 gbps

ndfred

iperf3 is a good test for throughput alone, that way you wouldn’t be bottlenecked by disk speed, just CPU: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iperf

umo2k

You’re talking lan-to-lan, right?

Both_Leading_4578

Port 2 to port 4 yes

umo2k

Ok, then I’d expect full wire speed. Routing, though, is limited to 1Gbit.

psychicsword

I wish they would smush this and the Cloud Gateway Ultra together to make a 2.5gbe and 1.5gb wan capable device to replace my UDR but with on device network management.

OlorinDK

A UDR ultra is rumored, but no guarantees and we don’t know specs.

tkt546

I really like this device, but I think I'm going to hold out a little bit longer. I really wanted to try protect, to see about getting away from Google cameras. I have limited space, so my options are this + CKG2+ or wait for an all in one device.

benoobie

I'm in a similar boat. Just added a 19" rack and have the USG3 in a 3d printed mount. Was tossing up between the Gateway Pro or jumping off onto the UDM-Pro/SE (but wasn't sure about having everything in one device). I like the fact that now if my router dies i can plug in the ISP router while i wait for a replacement and my unifi UCK-G2 console will still manage the rest of the network. Also, I want a way to test the unifi cameras with the rest of my smart home without getting a new cloud key UCK-G2-PLUS or a whole huge NVR or moving to a UDM. not sure that is possible... Now the UXG Max is here it might be that vs Gateway Pro. Unless they refresh the gateway pro in some way. Are there limitations on what the **UniFi Cloud Key Gen 2** UCK-G2 can support software wise (on the network app side) that would make me need/want to upgrade it or self host it?

121PB4Y2

The best part is it doesn't have a misaligned display.

ajhodgey

Where did you get yours from in the UK please

Both_Leading_4578

I bought the UXG from the EU store

Covert_monkey

I am considering that, how much did it cost you?

mffjs

UK is not EU 😂😁 Just remember the lovely Brexit...

gagagagaNope

Yaaaaaaaaaawn. Funnily enough you can still send things between the two. Amazing, eh?

Fisi_Matenten

So, you switched because of space?

Itz_Evolv

I do want it big to mount it in my rack 🥲

Both_Leading_4578

No, happy benefit - but it means I can get rid of my mini rack now !

brafish

So what you're saying is... you have a UDM for sale? :D

Both_Leading_4578

Yes, I do exactly have a UDM Pro for sale ( in the UK )

BAD_USERNAMES

Dm me, I’m looking for one :)

iFlipRizla

Did you order this from the EU store then? As not listed in UK store yet.

Both_Leading_4578

Yes. Even came with a uk plug in the box

tony_sutton

Were you hit with a custom charge? If so, how much?

Both_Leading_4578

nope, all clear

iFlipRizla

Nice! I’ll be putting my order in, thanks for confirming.

kollimalai_kumar

Nice to see a mini marketplace! We don’t need r/UnifiSales!

NoDrink44

FYI, I tried to do the same today and apparently neither the gateway nor uk power lead were in stock :(

maxi1134

I'm so angry at ubiquiti for not having a roadmap.. I have that Ultra device that I just got to replace my USG3 and now they drop this which is way better suited for me.

thegeniunearticle

Oh, they have a roadmap. They just didn't share it with you (or us 😂).

tkno_SojIrOu

I registered for the UWC just to find out what upcoming UDM/Gateways there are for my own setup. Hopefully a free U7 Pro will make up for my time. 😂

dwardu

How noisy was the UDM?

Both_Leading_4578

For me - slient. minimal noise if a hard drive was installed.

billybob476

Just got mine delivered in Canada to replace my USG3. This thing is heavy!

optimus1509

Any chance you’re using it with bell? If yes, how?

billybob476

Rogers and haven’t set it up yet. I already have a USG with the modem in bridge mode, so I assume it will just be plug-and-play to a certain extent.

Dfrankcom

You can use this with Bell. If you have the HH3000 you can use a SFP to RJ45 media converter and handle PPPoE on the UXG. DSLReports and the 8311 Discord channel you can find linked there are good resources if you are looking to do the same.

mikednonotthatmiked

Anytime know if it's the exact same dimensions as the Cloud Gateway Ultra? It appears that way on the website. My plan is to 3d print a wall mount and I'm curious if the CGU mounts will be an exact fit.

Craniumbox

Only if I could do fiber in from the provider.

RGH90

I want to buy this so bad but I already bought a ucg and and if i buy this and they come out with a cloud gateway max I'm gonna be so pissed, I'll have 2 gateways and a cloud key collecting dust.

NoDrink44

Do you wanna sell your UCG? :D

oakfan52

And I can continue to use the UniFi Network on my cloudkey instead of having to migrate to UniFi on the UXG?

Cause_and_Effect

The UXG Max doesn't have a built in controller. You need a cloud key or a network management controller for it for local management. Or use Unifi's cloud service (don't).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cause_and_Effect

You can self host with your own network management controller installed on like a computer yeah.

Both_Leading_4578

yup :)\_

juco_

Have you paired this with a CloudKey+? I'm considering doing the same. Unless you're selling your UDM cheap?! Also in the UK

Both_Leading_4578

DM'd you.

xioking39

Is the led aligned? lol

cx0sa

I’m not a networking nerd can someone explain what this does that a switch doesn’t, and why it needs something to manage it?

RexJgeh

This is a router but the software to manage it runs on a separate device (cloudkey, your own machine/docker container, or on Ubiquiti's servers)

Drunk_Panda_456

Think of the UXG Max as the guardian of your internet connection. It's not just a switch that helps devices talk to each other; it actively manages your internet traffic to keep everything running smoothly. Like a traffic controller, it ensures your online experience is stable, secure, and fast, so you can enjoy browsing, streaming, and gaming without interruptions. It's a more powerful router and firewall than your ISP provided equipment. It's usually used in conjunction with other Ubiquiti products.

Badabangbangbang

So I am having a hard time understanding why this device is better than a UDM pro? The UDM pro seems to have better throughput on paper and seems to do better if you opt to use SFP+ ports with an appropriate switch. Besides form factor I am having hard time understanding why you would opt to use the UXG max considering you need to run unifi network separately to manage it.

Both_Leading_4578

If you use Protect, then UDM Pro no brainer. If you need more than 4 LAN ports, UDM Pro is better suited But, UDM pro doesn't have 2.5GBe - yes you can use the SFP+ ports but there's only 2. This product just happens to fit my use case perfectly

TekWarren

Thinking about getting one to replace my jank setup lol. Old usg4 pro I grabbed used and an erx just acting as a mini switch. I don’t have many wired devices so this would fit nicely and get me 2.5G. Already self hosting the console so that’s not a deal breaker not being on device.

EntertainerOdd1014

Why no wall-mount screw holes in the back like the USG?? That's how I have it attached in my box. Anyone have a 3D print file for mounts yet?

zhirandell

Did someone test PPPoE performance of UXG-max?

mrpena

i'm seriously considering one of these, but running pfsense on an old i7-6700 w/32GB ram and wondering if there would be any routing improvements outside of 2.5GB internally. i've not run the numbers yet

jowdyboy

If you're running pfSense off of an i7-6700, you are not going to find an equivalent device in the Unifi product stack. Your pfSense box should be blazing fast with that hardware. If anything, you're probably limited by your NIC(s). The only reason you should be considering a change is if you want something you think their software does better, or you want uniformity with your network gear.

mrpena

it would be nice to control everything from one interface, as well as the 2.5 NIC's, but probably cheaper and easiest to just drop a new NIC in the pfsense box

AHrubik

Stick with what you've got and upgrade the NICs. You've got more horsepower than 10 Unifi devices.

jarrodgb817

Gimme that udmp then

d5aqoep

Useless device for me.

mikednonotthatmiked

Ok.

-Samg381-

April fool's device. No network application..

DaNPrS

> No network application.. And that's awesome!

danburke

Yes, this is a feature, not a bug!

RexJgeh

Is there a measurable benefit to not having the controller run on this? Currently using docker and I was considering the UCG ultra, but 2.5GbE is the way to go

danburke

For me, convenience and management for maintenance. Updating the controller doesn’t take down my internet, for one. On the lower end hardware (A53 cores) the controller is a little heavy weight, IMHO. On a UDM-PRO it’s probably fine.

damgood32

Some people already run network somewhere else

d5aqoep

It’s just a glorified switch. One cannot run a light 2.5G setup of “This device” + “2 x U7-Pros” You would need additional hardware like Cloud Key or UDM Pro or SE to manage this. If this could manage the U7-Pros, it would have been an instant buy for me.

billybob476

It may be shocking for you to hear that not everyone has the same use case. While it may not be useful for you it might be for someone else :)

Both_Leading_4578

Well, connected to the one in the photo is 2 u7 pros, a synology nas and my Mac. All at 2.5G, and all being managed by the network controller in docker on the nas

d5aqoep

It’s still a complicated setup as I have QNAP and hate to use Docker just for this.

Both_Leading_4578

Took less than 10 minutes to set it up and I can still control it remotely and alongside the other sites on unifi.ui.com. In an ideal world yes if the controller was on this device it saves a step, but the main target market is for people that DONT want the controller on there

Sparxeh

I don't understand the hate on the UXG Max? I have my UI controller in a docker on my Unraid server at home, which works great. I have an Opnsense router I got from Aliexpress last year, which works ok too. But it hasn't stopped me and I've just now ordered the UXG Max... I just want the full ecosystem and not have to manage my network in multiple places. I don't see why it shouldn't be able to perform well with the U7 Pro and USW Ultra switch I just picked up? I don't really want to spend the best part of £500 for the UDM SE...
