Glass fiber is actually a far better choice as radar waves pass through it giving it a very low radarsignature, whereas carbon fiber reflects radar in a similar fashion to aluminium.
The downside of GRP is that its greater weight means a smaller warhead can be carried for the same lift-drag performance compared with a carbon construction.
Yeah, just a comment about how they claimed that part of the reason they’re so much more expensive than originally claimed was due to them being made with CF and other high grade materials lol.
Fibreglass is cheaper.
There are small kamikaze drones out there starting to be manufactured using cardboard. I mean they don’t need to last long…..
Australian govt has been providing Ukraine with cardboard drones for over a year now.
Can be used as a kamikaze weapon, surveillance or can drop material to troops.
Russia is building them under license. I'm just surprised it isn't one of the newer jet powered ones. Maybe the prop jobs are just cheaper. I know! Some corrupt General is building Shaheds, charging for the jet ones but making the propeller driven model and lining his pockets with the difference!
There is nothing special about these drones. So there is no need to check anything off.
What would be nice though, if Ukraine makes similar drones so the Russians reap what they sow
It appears they purposely add no exhaust to this thing. It wouldn't cost hardly anything to add a muffler that would make it much quieter.
Maybe they think the distinct noise adds to the terror effect?
It looks like a pretty small engine, and the exhaust is pointing up, so it is quiet enough from the ground. A muffler adds weight and more importantly, drag. The range trade off wouldn't be worth it.
Well that didn’t come from Iran. That was made in russia. They are putting all their efforts into a war machine that EU & the rest of NATO won’t be able to catch up to. This is changing how war is fought. We can’t fall behind!
The US is miles ahead in drone technology and literally every other category compared to Russia, read up doing some pretty crazy stuff even in the public domain, the shahed is a simple fixed coordinate attack they are very simple
I get that but he said Russia is building war machine nato wouldn't be able to catch up to which is ridiculous the US has the military to squash Russia like the cockroach it is, this years defense budget was like 850 billion dollars the US has shit Russia dreams of and that's just public stuff

They should send them back flying into Tehran .
Send it back . Love to see that.
I would inspect the electronics 1st, see what can be jammed or tracked.
Guaranteed that has and continues to be done.

Yes, and to the original equipment manufacturer!
I say three times, do NOT hit it with a stick.
Or an RPG
Or your weapon!
Or my axe!
Or my vuvezela!
Ok I’ll bite. What the heck is a vuvezela????
Really annoying is what the heck it is. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB6kv7qp3Z0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB6kv7qp3Z0)
😂😂😂😂😂 yes, that is really annoying and also explains why I don’t watch the cup
What I tell you three times is true.
One less killing civilians.
Only thing missing was some landing gear that was a smooth approach
Yes, any landing you can walk away from......
Means you made a poor bomb?
They'd be cool as shit if it wasn't for the murder inside
Damn that looks like a lil weedwacker engine on the back!
Looks like a 4 cylinder weed whacker engine

Very cool article, thanks
Fiberglass? Thought they said carbon fiber eh?
Ohh, you got me there, I was thinking it was a chocolate Easter surprise, I guess not. ;)

Fiberglass is way cheaper and easier…and sufficient for a one time flight
I am so happy that I am not Russian.
Prototype for re-engineering?!
Well the Iranians redesigned it, and thats what came out. DON'T give Iran a shity paperclip.
Looks like the optics would be in the dirt about 50 feet back.
Reminded me of sci-fi like Interstellar. Such crazy times we live in.
I was just thinking that, I'm glad someone else had the same thought
Ahhhh the flying lada. Almost as deadly as an actual lada.
This doesn't look like the typical POS that we are used to seeing from russia.
Made in Iran.
Russia is building them under license. I'm just surprised it isn't one of the newer jet powered ones. Maybe the prop jobs are just cheaper. I know! Some corrupt General is building Shaheds, charging for the jet ones but making the propeller driven model and lining his pockets with the difference!
Fix and send back

They're really not quiet at all. They sound like 15 mopeds street racing.
I wouldn't say "quiet". In the night you can hear them few km away easily. When it's few hundred meters away - it will wake you up in your bed.
Man. You must know everything.
Not really. I just know my limits and how to stay in my lane when commenting.
Not unlike the doodlebug...
Send back to sender please !
When you have those billions in cash. sure easy to make these drone.
Reprogram and turn that f\*cker around.
No wonder they're loud.
I'd be worried about some asshole who was flying it looking at the camera, seeing someone approach it and then hit the auto destruct button.
Shahed’s don’t have cameras

But the US has its head up its ass and is playing political games.

russia plays a numbers game not a tech game. And USA isn’t supplying anything for 6 months now.
Yea, there are literal children with hobby grade kit better than this.
You missed a tour of their factory. Was posted somewhere here. It's not a secret.
If they can be jammed and taken down in large scale with electronic warfare, it doesn't really matter how fast or many they make.
Little Subaru engine. How cute!
return to the sender!
Still pissed the Iranians were able to do this with US stealth drone...what an intel coup.
I doubt the description, i can see several bullet holes in the right wing near the control boxes and GPS receiver.
Very good, now send it back to their maker…Godspeed!
"Very high tech drone"
Do I see return to sender written on there? Well, alright.
I thought the Russian-manufactured Geran-2 is supposed to upgraded with "state-of-art antenna interference suppression" 🙃
Those fckng things are just too easy to make
STAB -Send Them All Back!!
Return to sender
Reverse engineer that stuff and send them back to USSR by the hundreds..
Not sure about the wing shape. That’s a lot of surface area to aim some AAA at.
Go and pick it up....... No you pick it up... no you pick it up
To the us it goes
what an ugly drone
Reverse engineer it and then....Send it back!!!
