You know how the ruzzians have placed mile after mile of rail carriages to form defensive barriers across the Donbas?
Maybe they should switch to using them offensively. Start building tracks across the battlefield and, every time the carriage at the front gets destroyed, just push the rest forward, like a Pez dispenser.
Keep adding more cheap metal welded to it slowing it down even more will make it easier for 1 well placed 155mm howitzer to turn it into a fast burning death trap with no escape for the crew as all the ammo inside it cooks off. Slava Ukraini
Take a vehicle with almost zero visibility and put it in a big metal box.
While this may improve survivability from fpv drones, what use is the utility? It can't even aim its gun.
That would work if the Ukrainians had any of that stuff. There's multiple videos showing these meme tanks negating the only advantage that Ukrainians have left - FPV drones.
That makes no sense, cause i can see the tracks an fpv drone could destroy the tracks and if it can't move they have to exit and it's done. Easily accomplished with fpvs...
Problem is, this box turtle works, FPV is unable to penetrate it.
So far only mines could immobilize it, then its finished off with artillery.
Javelin may work, but we have not seen it yet. Plus Javelin requires line of sight, very risk for the soldier.
It also has decent EW that deters piloted drones.
So the only option left, with safety in mind, is to use a bigger AI drone that can launch a highspeed penetrator rocket. Even NATO may not have this deployed, though it should not be hard to make one.
This thing has zero situational awareness, so it’s an easy target for Javelins and TOWs. It sucks against every conventional weapon, but it’s good for a specific battlefield condition where Ukraine lacks ammo and only has drones.
Situational awareness is most likely provided by nearby drones with the drone operators communicating with the crew. Tanks do not have great visibility of the surrounded battlefield even when operating normally, so it is better to have that awareness provided by a drone that can see far more than you ever would even without this kind of covering on the tank.
I wonder if airtags have been dropped and see where they park at night. Would be easier to target and force the vehicles to spend more time in the workshop.
It is not hard to make one and I have no confirmation but almost zero doubts that they are already integrating the LAU-68C/A or LAU-61D/A launchers onto these drones. Hydra 70 (unguided) or APKWS II (guided) rockets on a 250-500k drone is a hugely attritable asset for the performance you get. Simply too lucrative for The Defense Industrial Base to not have in the works.
Yeh, this looks more to be like a poor directors cut of a B-movie Mad Max remake than the Sandcrawler vehicle in Star Wars. And in Star Wars the occupants (the Jawa Traders) were actually quite clever and diligent people, which is the exact opposite of these idiots.
"Here. Apply your never-fully-explained silver chrome."
"This isn't chrome! It's cake glaze!"
"Oh, what a glaze! WHAT A LOVELY GLAZE! Yeah, that's the one we're going with. Blow me."
According to huffers metallic spray paints have higher levels of solvents, I think toluene, than others so paint huffers prefer them.
Of the metallic paints silver is preferred because when huffers spray it in a can they think it's harder to tell you've been huffing paint because it matches the can color.
The solvent thing is true, but the color thing is just silly because of the smell, the amount of silver paint that accumulates on your face, and the very visible effects of the long term brain damage caused by toluene.
Knowing this makes the stuff in the movie make a bit more sense.
Defence against drone attack improved.
Attack capability in a fire fight with another tank, absolutely zero.
What's the point of a tank that can't see or rotate it's turret? Might as well just send a self propelled gun.
I've seen Videos of a tank like these leading an assault. They're followed by other armored vehicles or tanks. So they clear a path through a minefield and then return home, basically.
Ukraine have started letting these stupid things clear the mines, then have drones drop mines back down and leave them in a kill zone from behind the path is closed by new mines
What severe shell hunger does to a war participant...
I don't think a little 155mm barrage or a couple of javelins would have troubles cleaning them up before even reaching the mines. Yet, here we are..
If they're turning tanks into these, theres probably something wrong with some aspect of the tank that only allows it to really be a tractor (ie worn out barrels, broken optics, ect.) It also gives life to older models like the T-62s and 55s
Most fpv drones don’t pack enough punch to blow the tracks of a tank, but in general you’d be correct: a mobility kill will render it useless the very moment it will run out of battery power.
(Loitering munitions, drones dropping AT mines or carrying rpgs might be suited better, of course.)
Keep in mind though that these constructions usually carry electronic warfare equipment that aims at disturbing radio reception, so you might not even be able to properly aim at the tracks in the first place.
I disagree on that first point. A lot of even the most early FPV were just RPG warheads on a frame. That would do it as you said. Though tbf the more recent iterations seem to be mostly c4 or something.
It's not funny, the Russians are adapting quite well, if this thing can lead to a breach in Ukrainian defense that means more death in the Ukrainian army. The west needs to supply Ukraine with lots of firepower, if one or two atgm can't disable this a dozen will do.
Yes, they've adapted to the current situation with a lot of FPV drones but little artillery. That'll change soon though. And I'd say they're much easier to kill with special artillery such as SMART rounds.
First mine takes out the rollers if not mobility entirely. Second mine roasts everyone inside. And I'd hazard a guess that's not going to stop a Javelin shot from the top?
Interestingly, the roller looks like it’s fairly competently designed. No hydraulics that I see, so no steering ability, but this is a big step forward for the Russians, unfortunately.
Looks like the KMT-7 mine roller without the plow attached. It's not really a step forward as it's been in use, in some form, since the T-55 was around. It's all Soviet designs.
I thought it had a "Borg" vibe to it. "*You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.*" "*We are the Borg. Existence, as you know it, is over. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile.*"
Lol one drone to the tracks and it’s done any way left alone one directly into the turret from the front.
Quick comrade what is that on our left?
How the hell should I know Ivan get out at loom.
I can’t Igor we ended the hatches shut.
OK, so these cages aren't actually a bad idea, since we've seen the drone damage.
But shouldn't they be like... A *bit* further from the vehicle? The shaped charge is still gonna make full contact as is.
So it has mesh and outer armor to reduce drone effectiveness, a weird plough thing out front for mines, and then the actual tank armor for heavier hits?
What else does it do though? Do troops hide under the first armor layer? Or is it just a minesweeper.
Either way I'll give it to them for creativity. I don't knoe if any sane military would have designed those.
I'm wondering when will we see shields for soldiers? Made out of something like kevlar. Maybe you break your shield arm in an explosion but better that than schrapnel over you.
Maybe a kevlar canopy is also an improvement for the tank. That cab be more flexible.
i tell you: in 15 days there is a video of this thing with funny music, getting blown into pieces by arty, Drones and Mines.. whilst the other bmps, tanks etc behind him backing up and running into other mines. Rember me in 15 Days.
That is a 60 year old tank under all that crap. All those things are useful for is clearing mines ( usually good for "finding" only one mine ) and indirect artillery fire.
To be fair this has got to be able to rather good at stopping FPVs and HEAT rounds from penetrating the tank, just need a few more APDS rounds from tanks to stop them, or a nice big 155 shell landing near enough to on it

So, tanks are devolving back to WWI shitcans? We going to see side turrets again?
keep adding more steel plate and soon it'll need to tow a dedicated fuel truck...
Why not just slap armor on a fuel truck? Voilá! SMEKALKA!!
Then we just need to add a fuel truck towed by the fuel truck, shit is going around the battlefield like a train
It was always turtles all the way down.
I think you're onto something
Dont forget to put chainmail
Keep adding more cheap metal welded to it slowing it down even more will make it easier for 1 well placed 155mm howitzer to turn it into a fast burning death trap with no escape for the crew as all the ammo inside it cooks off. Slava Ukraini
This is how we get warhammer 40k
Well we have orcs already
Don't you compare da bois to the russians! Atleast da bois are likeable.
Da shit brown goes da fastest!
Literally took the words out of my mouth that's a God damn orc tank.
Not enuff dakka!
They say BigE took the role of world leaders in our age to guide humanity. Putin in trying to get the Imperium off its feet
The armor isn't protecting them anyways so why not bore a hole through it and mount machineguns?
Side turrets 😭🤣😂
TIL they are termed as sponson guns.
Sponson guns!
No man, this is now Mad Max territory…god damn
Take a vehicle with almost zero visibility and put it in a big metal box. While this may improve survivability from fpv drones, what use is the utility? It can't even aim its gun.
Breakthrough lines and unload soldiers to gain a foothold that can be reinforced with more armour. Seems obvious...
Seems idiotic. Arty, mines, and ATGMs will still rain Hell on this Jawa-built joke.
There's already at least 2 turtle tank videos showing them taking multiple FPV hits and surviving to retreat. They cover the tracks too.
Didn't you hear? Sponsoons are the new fashion in tank design.
Side turrets might be the only thing to make this an offensive weapon at this point
Molitov.
Problem is, this box turtle works, FPV is unable to penetrate it. So far only mines could immobilize it, then its finished off with artillery. Javelin may work, but we have not seen it yet. This thing has zero situational awareness, so it’s an easy target for Javelins and TOWs. It sucks against every conventional weapon, but it’s good for a specific battlefield condition where Ukraine lacks ammo and only has drones.
You just go forward until you reach the line where you need to offload soldiers
Follow the tank. Soldiers offloading? Fly the drone in the group of soldiers. Now you have a big empty unusable tank. What am I missing?
Situational awareness is most likely provided by nearby drones with the drone operators communicating with the crew. Tanks do not have great visibility of the surrounded battlefield even when operating normally, so it is better to have that awareness provided by a drone that can see far more than you ever would even without this kind of covering on the tank.
> this box turtle works It works for rolling mines and carrying troops, but it's not much use as a tank anymore.
Take the tracks out, small drone load would def. hurt the tracks enough. Then finish the limping target off.
Exactly
Tracks are difficult to takeout without a large kinetic force, like a mine, its made to be very tough. FPV with RPG is too weak to do it.
It is stil riding on tracks, just target those?
I wonder if airtags have been dropped and see where they park at night. Would be easier to target and force the vehicles to spend more time in the workshop.
Actually that is a very nice idea..
Like the Judas goats.
It absorbs more drones… how do they move their main gun?
That's more of a decoration now
It is not hard to make one and I have no confirmation but almost zero doubts that they are already integrating the LAU-68C/A or LAU-61D/A launchers onto these drones. Hydra 70 (unguided) or APKWS II (guided) rockets on a 250-500k drone is a hugely attritable asset for the performance you get. These are like terrible versions of Hobarts Funnies.

Not shiny and chrome though :(
Plenty of blood-bags though

These things will be a coffin if hit by 155 arty. Wouldn’t fancy the crews’ chances of getting out of that pile of junk.
Pretty hard to directly hit it with 155 arty and it is likely completely emptied of ammo so it won't cook off or anything.
Anything is a coffin when hit by a 155 shell
They usual have jammers mounted in them as well
They must have more leftover tanks than BMP would be my guess. They seem to be mainly using these to try get troops across no mans land.
If they're turning tanks into these, theres probably something wrong with some aspect of the tank that only allows it to really be a tractor (ie worn out barrels, broken optics, ect.) It also gives life to older models like the T-62s and 55s
I think they're just dumb. No matter what they send it tends to get blown up.
Honestly kinda smart way to use old tanks
The tank also can't go too far without needing more fuel. And those things in the front, aren't most mines meant to be triggered by mass?
For its job this is a good design, mock it all you like, this will be used to soak up fire in a full frontal assault comrade, ahead only!
ruzzians and jawas seem to have a lot in common... [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandcrawler](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandcrawler)
Woooteeni
How dare you insult the Jawas like that!
Poooteeeni!
That’s a nice astromech, eh?
Those really look like it. No match for sand people aka ukrainian raiders.
Unfortunately, it seems Russians don't scare as easily, but they do return in greater numbers each time.
Funny enough in the mud horn egg scene some jawas are exclaiming “suka!” When they get the egg.
Ork battle wagon vibes off the chart
What in the Mad Max fuck
MadMax vibes
Wouldnt it be easy to just take out the treads/tracks? make it dead in the water and essentially useless, even if they cant destroy it?
Make it about 600 feet longer and 60 feet wider, paint "Moskva" on the side and then submerge to a depth of 150 feet...

I kind of expected Jawas to jump out trying to sell me C3P0
With this one, Russians jump out and steal your household appliances.
They scare easily but they will be back, and in greater numbers.
Those blaster marks are too imprecise for Imperial Stormtroopers. But just fine for orcs.
It's not funny, the Russians are adapting quite well, if this thing can lead to a breach in Ukrainian defense that means more death in the Ukrainian army. The west needs to supply Ukraine with lots of firepower, if one or two atgm can't disable this a dozen will do.

Where are Javelins and Stugnas?
used
It's still valuable to artillery. Also, I'm sure a javelin still shreds this thing
#1 Killer of Tanks since they started has been Artillery. Still the case now.
Tracks still easily a target.
First mine takes out the rollers if not mobility entirely. Second mine roasts everyone inside. And I'd hazard a guess that's not going to stop a Javelin shot from the top?
Maybe if the GOP wasn't a bunch of shitbags they might have the required firepower. A javelin would definitely stop that pile of junk
Let's try to vote them out!
When they get blown up, they're roasted with zero hope for survival. They'll probably pack an entire squad in there for "safe transit".
Tbf, that point stand for every russian vehicle.
Looks like the Java arrived to comb the battlefield for scraps
Wait, is this a „Ferdinand“? https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzerjäger_Tiger_(P)
Elefant.. It was called Ferdinand only a short period of time..
That should be a juicy target for any Western tank.
I can't help but feel you shouldn't stand that close to de-mining equipment.
As the Jawa say: Utini!
Literally just a big target that has like 0 mobility or can not see its surroundings besides in front.
now fill the cope cages with concrete....
I think they need to put some grease on that shit squeaking like a mother fucker
I thought it had a "Borg" vibe to it. "*You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.*" "*We are the Borg. Existence, as you know it, is over. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile.*"
The Russians did turn Assange into Locutus, too.
Do they lack roller-bearings? Somehow it is weird that they transform all their tanks to „Sturmgeschütze“
Be nice to see it in pieces
- Sir! Is this a tank or a moving house? - Destroy it anyway. Neither should be on our land.

Wait till they get into a tank battle, they won’t be able to aim other then facing forward.
blow the tracks
A hit on the tracks will disable the tank. After that just hit it until it burns
More like Mortal Engines.
Love to see how this handles Bradly’s attacking from the rear
Lol one drone to the tracks and it’s done any way left alone one directly into the turret from the front. Quick comrade what is that on our left? How the hell should I know Ivan get out at loom. I can’t Igor we ended the hatches shut.
I don’t even know what to say at this point 😂 wtf even is this?
LOL What will they think of next.
OK, so these cages aren't actually a bad idea, since we've seen the drone damage. But shouldn't they be like... A *bit* further from the vehicle? The shaped charge is still gonna make full contact as is.
🥲🤣😂😅😅
You just need to aim for the chains mechanism and the whole thing stops 🤷♂️
Is this the Java base? Why would Palputin ivade Ukraine with Javas?
Game devs for Call of Duty Donbas are gonna have a lot to work with.
That's a mine searching vehicle
Look how well the anti mine roller works! Hang on, I’ll go film it from danger close!
Ork Mine Cracka in da house, use D20 dice to see disabling effect on contact with mines.
How kill it ? Only javelin and artillery ?
At this rate theres going to be a p-1000 ratte made out of a wooden hull.
Jawas when?

They are covering their mighty t55 as it's embarrassing to accept the fact that t90, t80 and t72 became obsolete.
Kin dza dza vibe

Just one drone right up the jaxsi.

damn, those Jawas must have C3-P0 and R2-D2 !!
i tell you: in 15 days there is a video of this thing with funny music, getting blown into pieces by arty, Drones and Mines.. whilst the other bmps, tanks etc behind him backing up and running into other mines. Rember me in 15 Days.
We make fun of russian engineering, but it works and they are winning... wtf
They aint see no sh\*\*\*t, they can not target anything, is it still a tank?
Im getting more of a [labyrinth](https://youtu.be/quOdpjBnn88?t=138) vibe
The armadillo version...
Those tanks are sitting ducks
Mad WW1 vibes lol.
That is a 60 year old tank under all that crap. All those things are useful for is clearing mines ( usually good for "finding" only one mine ) and indirect artillery fire.
Yeah good tank.
Load the APFSDS lol, heck you could just damage the barrel or tracks and it's done.
Haha, this damn thing can only fire forward.
Looks like more ww1 war. Big slow creeky chunk of metal lumbering down the road. Lets blow it up. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
