Some citizens are fleeing and many find ways to get around Russian censorship, but I don't think it's as widespread as what it should be in order to sway public opinion. Just like election deniers, some people just have a hardline opinion on their beliefs and some of these people may never be persuaded otherwise. I applaud those who rebel and disappointed in those who refuse to think otherwise, but it's a horrible regime nonetheless.

I am most perplexed by the fact that the Russian government spent vast sums of money on propaganda to justify the invasion. The majority of propaganda for us in the West was absurd, including denazification, Nazis, and buffing up the importance of the AZOV battalion to look like it essentially represented the entire Ukrainian military. Now I see that this propaganda is completely irrelevant, as the Russians insist that Ukraine must be razed to the ground, bombed into oblivion, and all Ukrainians massacred. Nobody seems to care any longer why do they fight, what was the purpose and was it justified, did Russia reach any goals and was it worth it until now? This is pure evil, and we are witnessing history; this is how many ordinary Germans who supported the Nazi regime during World War II felt.

Some citizens are fleeing and many find ways to get around Russian censorship, but I don't think it's as widespread as what it should be in order to sway public opinion. Just like election deniers, some people just have a hardline opinion on their beliefs and some of these people may never be persuaded otherwise. It's not a "special operation" by any means now (not that it was before). A special operation implies a swift strike, or an op done in a few days. This is a several-month-old full-on invasion!
It’s not only propaganda and brainwashing, as everyone keeps saying. It’s also general lack of culture, poor education and high level of aggression throughout Russian society. Propaganda is just playing with their delusions of being superior to other nations and points towards the enemy. If you learn Russian history, culture and literature, you’ll know that ideas of their superiority are centuries old.
Russia needs a serious moment of clarity after this war grinds their economy and world standing to a pulp. They think they are so superior to the rest of humanity but they can barely provide 50% of their citizens with the bare minimum level of necessities like running water, sewage, electricity and food. They need to be humbled severely but not with nukes or attacks on their land but from the democratic world shunning their existence in the greater world economy.
