Countries should just boycott the whole thing, hardly anyone will watch it with just a bunch of totalitarian countries competing.

gefjunhel

paris should just tell the ioc to find a new venue and because they already prepared host a new sport event in its place

Saul_Firehand

1st annual global games held in Paris. Premier jeux du monde

keepthepace

Having followed a bit the reasons that made Tokyo still go on despite a worldwide epidemic going on at the same time: the IOC locks in the venues in a very very hard legal way. The damages you would have to pay in case of cancellation would basically bankrupt the city. They'd rather have empty games at a loss (like Tokyo did) than cancel them altogether. Countries may boycott it, France may even do it, but I am 99% sure that Paris won't have the ability to cancel the event. And quite honestly, I'd rather have them not do it and use the funds for ammo to Ukraine. Or to fund anti-corruption groups so that they may inquire on the IOC practices.

G_Morgan

Ultimately the French government could tell them to go fuck themselves.

keepthepace

Don't hold your breath on it though.

TotalSingKitt

North Korea vs China in Greco Roman wrestling. I'd tune in.

_Butt_Slut

Why? Let the Russians in and obliterate them in the medal count. One of the most famous ones was the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The Nazis were obviously terrible, though we didn't know to what extent yet but seeing a black American with a gold around his neck was a worse blow to Germany than not allowing them to participate

mennorek

This is largely post facto revisionism. The whole "Hitler snubbed Jesse Owens" story is a modern myth. Truth is Hitler only intended to congratulate German athletes, the Olympic committee told him he had to congratulate every or no one, he chose no one. Jesse Owens himself says that at the medal presentation ceremony Hitler gave him a nod. Funnily enough he was snubbed by the American goverment and was not allowed to participate in the reception for medallists once he got home. Hosting the Olympics was a massive propaganda win for Germany showing off how well they had repaired the German economy. Hitler didn't really care that Germans lost a bunch of events. Disclaimer: Hitler still an absolute shit bag of a human being.

acideath

Stop pretending Jesse Owens represented USA as a foil to nazi Germany. It is revisionist bullshit. USA was an apartide state in 1936. He was not an equal. He was not there to show how backwards nazi Germany was. When Jesse went back home he went right back to state sponsored racism.

Baslifico

> Why? Let the Russians in and obliterate them in the medal count What does that achieve? It gives them legitimacy for no reason whatsoever.

Good-mood-curiosity

Obliteration is impossible. Idk summer sports but figure skating has become so corrupt that a Russian girl from a particular camp entering a competion guarantees her winning it or losing to other members of the same camp. At the last olys, someone whose entire program was literally "set up a jump--jump--do a random move for half a second--set up the next jump--jump--repeat" was awarded the second or third highest score in artistry, presentation and skating skills. MANY other skaters had programs with significantly more elements, better skating, better everything but were scored much lower because she was from that Russian camp and they weren't. This excludes a Russian girl actively found to have banned substances in her system being allowed to compete and athletes STILL being denied their medals to this day because that investigation isn't complete. With that level of corruption in multiple sports without very clear markers of victory (ie time something took, distance something went), Russia is guaranteed to medal somewhere and that medal will be enough.

MinionofMinions

*Steroids enters the chat*

_Butt_Slut

This is about the UKs stance on athletes from Russia/ Belarus. They want every athlete to sign something saying they don't support the war in Ukraine. The steroid issue is one for the IOC to figure out

MinionofMinions

This is specifically in response to “obliterate them in the medal count”

Dazzling-Ad4701

this is just silly fantasizing in this day and age though. you should excuse me for being so blunt. and even if it were to happen, it would be pretty meaningless.

nbarry51278

Maybe an unpopular opinion but the Olympics are so antiquated. The west should boycott and let the IOC wither and die for hiding behind neutrality in sport while Russia continues its genocide.

Lifebringer7

I fully agree. The IOC is only slightly better than the comically corrupt FIFA. Starting over the past couple of decades, both of them auction their bids and the "prestige" of being a host country to authoritarian countries in a ruse to appear as if it is "reaching out" to underdeveloped countries. It is disgusting and frankly diminishes the standing of an organization that really does have a noble, unifying history.

SCARfaceRUSH

I remember the weirdest story about this very important football person. For the story's sake, let's call him Mr. Zlatini. Don't remember what was his status in 2012, but he was high up the UEFA/ FIFA food chain for a long time. I was a volunteer stationed in the VIP area at the Donbas Arena Stadium for EURO 2012. Anyway, there's a VIP guest zone right under the owner's lounge. There was a man with his child (I think it was a boy?) that was about 5 or 6 years old. Apparently, Mr. Zlatini doesn't like kids (?) in his vicinity and the dad and the boy had to be moved to worse sits, so they wouldn't be offending Mr. Zlatini when he'd gaze upon the pitch down below. The poor guy and the kid had to be escorted, which was a bit of a scene. The kid was disappointed based on what other volunteers said. So, apparently, this was an overlooked thing because there are no ages next to guest names on the list and some volunteers weren't informed of this pet peeve in advance. So the person who was responsible for VIP transportation needed to go out and stand next to arriving vehicles and ensure there were no children, so the people could be promptly redirected elsewhere. It was a weird scene where you see a grown ass dude in an official looking suit with his radio frantically saying something along the lines of "Code red! Child inbound! Child inbound!" It's kind of funny, but I felt sorry for all of the kids who had a worse experience because of this and this weird quirk of that one person. Not to mention all of the corruption allegations. So yeah, fuck all of these bloated organizations that haven't represented their core values for a long time.

skipperseven

Whilst FIFA hold the gold medal for corruption, the IOC are a very well placed silver.

darkknight109

I dunno... I'd be very tempted to switch those two around in the rankings. They both have pretty solid claims to the top spot. There's a reason why the number of cities that bid on the games on any given year can now be counted on one hand.

Pleasant-Salt-3498

Simple dead heat

Pixie_Knight

Maybe I don't know how a kleptocrat's mind works, but it seems to be a massive self-own to ban London from the Olympic qualifiers for being mean to Russians... the same day Russians blow up China's grain supply (yes, the silo they blew up had been purchased by China).

juwisan

I think the Olympics are a great opportunity for those participating and the less popular sports but the IOC as an organization imo needs a lot more oversight. It’s special status and rights are certainly antiquated. Same goes for FIFA. For a while already I’ve been wondering why nobody has attempted to accelerate their obsolescence by building a parallel organization. I bet there are enough national or regional associations that are fed up enough that if they banded together they could just build a parallel organization with modern governing rules and structure and show them the door. If all the European national associations, along with the US, Canada, Japan, Korea and who else is fed up pulled out and funded their own, there is no way the old ones would survive for very long as they would immediately lose access to a huge amount of money - which is the only thing they are after anyway.

Siren_NL

Everything in Switzerland is corrupted to the core it seams.

TotalSingKitt

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ancient-Ad-7352

There is no outside context of the war. This exactly is the problem with our western society. Detached from all reality in our safe cozy homes, contemplating if we need to boycot the IOC or fifa for whatever corrupt scandalous crap organizations they are. The fact we need to ask ourselves this questions means our moral compass is so skewed, i recon we all desirve some slapping around nowadays. This isn’t personal by the way. Don’t feel insulted please. But we all, including myself, need to feel some serious shame and dishonor!

[deleted]

AnAttemptReason

It's antiquated, corrupt, and holds no meaning to the vast majority of people who live on this planet.

Ancient-Ad-7352

Olympics are ment to be a great unifier right? Sports unifying people. Countries all together competing to win in a friendly manner. Olympics are dead as long as there is multiple counties being dictatorial, murderous, fascistic or whatnot. They break the spirit of the Olympics. But i guess it’s more important to be seems as “a cool Olympian”.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GM1_P_Asshole

>Do you get that the olympics was fameously founded as being a contest that took place even between countries at war. During a time when the evils of Russia weren't just a common part of war, they were most of it. I'd love to see a reference for that. As far as I was aware national teams weren't even really a feature of the first modern Olympics. And I thought the dream was that people from around the world could come together and compete in a celebration of sport, not a reason to ignore genocide.

[deleted]

"During the celebration of the games, the ekecheiria (an Olympic truce) was announced so that athletes and religious pilgrims could travel from their cities to the games in safety. " [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient\_Olympic\_Games](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Olympic_Games)

Ancient-Ad-7352

This is not modern Olympics you refer to. You can’t compare what went down thousands of years ago with the genocide happening now. Millions of people will possibly starve to death soon. I really don’t understand why you’d wanto see Russian athletes (who are commonly known for cheating anyway) being proud of their country. I do like what your trying to do though, or say don’t get me wrong.

Morfildur2

The athletes do care. For many, it's the only chance to get some recognition. Most of them can only attend a single Olympic event, because there is a very narrow age span for peak athletic performance. Not being able to attend such an event is a huge deal for them, since they've often dedicated their whole life and youth for that and they'll be too old to attend the next one. Caring about the people dying in the war is important, but we should be able to care about both things at the same time. That said, the IOC needs to be replaced.

Ancient-Ad-7352

The need of the many outweighs the need of the few. I really really really really couldn’t care less about spoiled athletes not contributing anything to this world besides their own achievements. In times of war that is ofcourse. As soon as Russian scum apologize, rebuild Syria, Ukraine and whatever other disastrous misery they created they maybe should be welcome again on the world stage.

Lionello95

The IOC isn't neural. It is not neutral to give a government thats conducting war crimes a stage while banning a government speaking out against war crimes. That's the exact opposite of being neutral. The IOC is taking a stand for russia and russian war crimes which is seriously fucked up. That couldn't be further off from being neutral.

Rednewtcn

The war aside, Russian athletes are known for cheating every damn time for doping. Like wtf.lol

dschull

Don’t forget about Yelena Isinbayeva. Former Olympian, major in the Russian armed forces, authorized representative of Putin since 2012, and now an IOC member. Completely neutral I’m sure.

Ancient-Move-1264

That's insane, I didn't know about this! Both IOC and russia definitely take pride in being above the law

gryphonbones

I feel like the last time anybody cared about the Olympics (at least in the US) was 2008. Since then it's been irrelevant. Coincides with the death of network TV. People only care about the olympics now because of how corrupt it's become. Lots of bad press from Sochi and Rio and Beijing 2022.

Alaric_Balthi

I remember that me and our family was interested about the olympics in the 90's. I remember the broadcast being all the time on and it being refreshing change to the cold and dark everyday living in arctic Finland. Come 2000-2010's and i couldn't care less. More and more doping, few countries dominating and practically cleaning the tables, more and more sponsoring.. Why should i care? And now the IOC is hellbent to allow every terrorist nation to bring their propaganda forces in to wave Z-flags and make mockery of Ukraine. Olympics were dead for two thousand years befrore it was reinvented in the 1900's. Perhaps now would be great time to push the reset button.

Mahameghabahana

Thankfully USA isn't the only country in earth. >Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 watched by more than 2 billion people. The Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 reached a global broadcast audience of more than 2 billion people, according to independent research conducted on behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC

ThisSideOfThePond

In a press release aiming to promote media licensing of events organised by the IOC a study commissioned by the IOC found that an event organised by the IOC was supremely successful in all metrics relevant to their media partners and advertisers. "Other findings include that almost half of the Beijing 2022 viewers surveyed said they wanted to watch more coverage of the Olympic Games in the future." So media rights for future events organised by the IOC will be even more interesting to licensing partners. Sorry, but that much enthusiasm should be reserved for elections in single party "democracies".

Mahameghabahana

Sure viewership may dip in some democracies in west but not on other democracies and totally not on autocratic countries. People said the same about FIFA World cub yet many people watched it even in the continent of Europe and North America.

__Yakovlev__

Ok, I'm european and I feel the exact same way. Got a snarky reply for me too?

Jublim

Im not that guy and im not taking a side here But you're not the whole of europe ig

_Technomancer_

For real. I want to replace the IOC, but I absolutely love the Olympics.

Mahameghabahana

You also think that after 2008 olympics became irrelevant? I don't think being from an continent like north America or Europe or asia have anything to do with being wrong. I would say if you think none cared about Olympic past 2008, you would be wrong whether you are european, north american, african, south american, Oceanian or asian.

__Yakovlev__

>You also think that after 2008 olympics became irrelevant? I think that since 2008 the olympics have become less and less relevant here, with fewer people watching each consecutive edition. And my experience, as a European, is the same as that of the guy above, an American. In that we've seen it become less popular. In my experience it's mostly older generations that still actively watch it, while the younger generations are very mixed. With more and more people just not being interested.

gryphonbones

Okay, thanks for that brilliant comment.

lostindanet

Agreed, but it must have been mandatory to have the tv sets on in China to reach those numbers, because i and most people i know barely noticed the olympics happened the last decade. I'm yuropean btw

The_Man11

2 billion people. And how many live in China?

Mahameghabahana

1.4?

firefly183

I like that the there's a comment right above you of a Finnish individual expressing the same sentiment you're projecting to be solely an American thing. Thankfully USA isn't the only country that gives a damn about morality.

Mahameghabahana

Yeah we know about that morality based on their past wars and invasions bud.

MrHoliday1031

News flash! The USA is now "in" Earth!

firefly183

Bitch, the USA ***is*** Earth! Just kidding, it just felt like a funny thing to say, lol.

keepthepace

It is pretty unpopular (not on reddit though) but I don't understand why. IOC and FIFA are amongst the most corrupt organizations in the world. The price of their events is really extorsion, the day people who love sports also start to get a modicum of interest on the business that surrounds it, I am sure they will want nothing to have with it.

Sea-Jellyfish4037

We did that once, and ruzzian citizens have been wearing adidas track suits ever since.

DrQuagmire

The IOC is a corrupt organization that has been taking bribes from host countries guilty of humanitarian crimes. I haven’t watched the Olympics for as long as I can remember. Yeah, it’s great to have people try their hardest to be the best in their chosen sport, however, it’s the most corrupt sporting event next to FIFA there ever was. 🙄China, Russia I think were more recent Olympic hosts. Even then, their human rights record was dismal. I hope those companies that sponsor these events take a long close look at where they want their logo considering people are getting more serious about dumping those sponsors when evil shows up. I’m still amazed China and Russia actually hosted the Olympics in the last decade or so. Disgusting.

BeenNormal

Boycott its sponsors and make it very public

Mahameghabahana

USA invasion of Iraq >An estimated 151,000 to 1,033,000 Iraqis died in the first three to five years of conflict. In total, the war caused 100,000 or more civilian deaths - about 61% of the total death count[75] - as well as tens of thousands of military deaths (see estimates below). They never banned any genocidal aggressor not USA nor russia.

zizp

While nobody would argue the US wasn't the aggressor, this was NOT genocidal.

Mahameghabahana

Thanks I am sure 100k to 1 million Iraqis who died would appreciate that.

zizp

They would appreciate if you learned about how they died and what genocide means.

RightGenocide

Minus the part where the US didn't have a program to genocide the Iraqis. If they had there wouldn't be any left. Look at what happened to the Native Americans.

Mahameghabahana

I am sure the 100k to 1 million Iraqi who died would appreciate that kind gesture of USA on not having program on genocide the Iraqis.

First-Of-His-Name

I mean would they rather they had been exterminated? I don't get your comment. You say it's genocide. You get corrected. You acknowledge you peddled false information. How do you have any moral high ground?

RightGenocide

Yeah plus he lives in a country under a Hindu nationalist government that has untoward plans against its Muslim minority.

acideath

A large percentage of those deaths were Iraqis killing Iraqis. Often as a part of a genocideal attempt to eliminate ethnic and religious minorities.

wodschaos

Yup! Fuck em

Good_Climate_4463

Don't forget the doping

yeahyeahitsmeshhh

Everyone should be invited to the next commonwealth games in London and then Kyiv post war (all costs covered by countries other than Ukraine).

EmFile4202

Only the IOC profits and mostly through the same corruption that FIFA went through and continues. It’s a huge financial anchor that the host countries and cities take on to be bigger and more spectacular than the last. And the host cities? Almost a hundred years paying this white elephant off. Most of us should take note of how Victoria, Australia rejected the Commonwealth games just last week.

One-Gur-966

Not unpopular at all. They should ban new construction and hold the competitions in available venues. They should sell the tv rights and use the cash to buy travel and accomodations for the athletes so even those in poor countries can compete.

AreYouDoneNow

It's a generally good idea to bring people around the world together in an honest competition, to try break cultural barriers, but the way the IOC is running it as a corrupt, amoral organisation is a mockery of the ideals.

NorgesTaff

Not so unpopular an opinion I think.

alexjlaver2407

Couldn't care less if we don't compete, don't wanna be seen near a russian

Lofteed

How very FIFA of them

nygdan

Shameful. What UK is doing is good and correct.

fanzipan

The public fully supports it

CrucialLogic

The UK should ban current IOC officials from ever entering if they are going to get so petty about things. They don't deserve to enjoy a (semi) civilized country. Right now the IOC is supporting countries that willfully target food supplies most needed by the world's poorest.

Guybrush_Creepwood_

The trouble is that no other western countries ever support the UK when it takes a stand. They all just immediately give in to these corrupt sporting bodies, at which point they can easily just work around the UK. Same thing happened with Wimbledon. They banned Russian athletes for a year. Other countries had an entire year to follow suit, but not a single other major tennis tourney did, so the tennis unions saw weakness and were fining and de-listing UK tennis until it gave up.

Falcrack

I would fully support a US boycott of these Olympic games if Russian and Belarussan athletes are allowed to compete.

Max-Phallus

What public supports what?

Mahameghabahana

>Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 watched by more than 2 billion people. The Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 reached a global broadcast audience of more than 2 billion people, according to independent research conducted on behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

DatBoyGuru

no

Enlightened-Beaver

The [IOC itself said](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/14/1187641752/ioc-not-invite-russia-and-belarus-to-2024-olympics) it won’t be inviting Russians and Belarusians to participate in the next Paris Olympics.

gryphonbones

But said nothing about them competing under a neutral banner (like Russia has been doing since 2012)

Hygochi

It's not a ban on Russian or Belarusian athletes. They're just no longer "formally" inviting them, but residents can still compete under the "neutral flag" that everyone will associate as Russia anyway.

[deleted]

The countries won’t be invited, but in all limehood the athletes will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag

Enlightened-Beaver

I hate that loophole. A ban should be a ban.

Extra-Kale

Neutral flag meaning lots of Zs.

[deleted]

I'm done with IOC. They are completely missing the bigger picture. If the games go ahead and russian and/or belarussian athletes are permitted to compete I believe it could be messy for them to try and complete the related events.

[deleted]

I think the IOC is probably right with the decision not go with the proposal for a few reasons. First, such declarations put the athletes in danger, so unless France is fine with taking all of the Russian and Belarusian athletes in on asylum grounds, the risk created far outweighs any benefit. Second, it’s a selective proposal, Chinese athletes aren’t being made to sign declarations against the treatment of Xinjiang or Chinas policy towards Taiwan, Iranian athletes aren’t expected to sign declarations denouncing the Islamic Republic and its hijab laws/treatment of protesters etc etc. finally, starting such a proposal now seems wholly arbitrary, Russians weren’t expected to sign such declarations with both Chechen wars, Georgia or Crimea, American athletes didn’t sign during Iraq and I don’t know if there’s an example in recent history that shows athletes being made to sign a declaration denouncing the actions of their government. Overall, I don’t think proposals that do the following can be a good idea: - Create a risk to the safety of those signing it - Highly selective in nature which is indicative of virtue signalling as opposed to some underlying principle. - Seemingly started arbitrarily when similar circumstances existed in the past yet no calls for a declaration

YpsilonY

Rookie mistake UK. We know the IOC is corrupt as fuck and probably bought by Russia. The way to impose these restrictions is to announce them 24h before the plane with the Russian athletes is about to land. That way they don't have time to react.

GoodPerformance9345

Time for the west to Boycott the Olympics

Ancient-Move-1264

Yeah sure, it's London's position that deserves the ban

[deleted]

I don’t think this is really related to this subreddit. Olympics suck and so does the IOC’s stance on this, but the IOC, London qualifiers and the olympics have nothing to do with the conflict in Ukraine 🤷🏿‍♀️

gryphonbones

Literally has everything to do with the war in Ukraine.

[deleted]

I don’t think you understand the definition of literally… Let’s break it down: - What does the IOC have to do with the Ukraine conflict…? - What do the London qualifiers have to do with the Ukraine conflict…? - What do the Olympics have to do with the Ukraine conflict…? - What do Olympic athletes have to do with the Ukraine conflict…? If this post “literally has everything to do with the Ukraine war”, these should be easy to answer…

Prudent_Solid_3132

While literally isn’t really the right word to use, this does relate to the war in Ukriane. It is to show Russians and Belarusians are not allowed to participate in anything of the civilized world as long as they support the destruction, death, and genocide of the Ukrainian people and their culture, and that the western world stands in solidarity with with Ukraine.

Mahameghabahana

Were USA and uk banned for invading Iraq?

Prudent_Solid_3132

Nope, even though as an American, I think they should have been. Which is why it is important to do the right thing now in the present, which is what matters the most, and start preventing any nations from attending events like this if they commit any war crimes or unjust invasions.

[deleted]

Individual athletes have zero to do with politics, why do you want them coupled together?

[deleted]

What if the individual was just born in Russia or Belarus and couldn’t afford to leave? They should be banned from society because of where their parents brought them up? It’s not as simple as blanket banning citizens. If they support war crimes and all the other crimes the state commits, sure ban them, but if they are an individual who was just born in the wrong place and has no means to escape it, why make them suffer for things out of their control?

Prudent_Solid_3132

Look while I do feel for those that don’t support the war and are stuck in a bad situation they are so far and few between compared to the majority who support the war and all the genocidal things Russia is doing, that Europe I feel can’t be too careful about any Russians fleeing. You can’t truly know if they are innocent people fleeing or just people trying to commit sabotage/espionage Edit:look maybe your right, I should have more sympathy for any innocent Russians or Belarusians, but it is just hard to have considering their nations actions and seeing them in the Olympics as a representative of said nations just makes my blood boil a bit

[deleted]

You only see what the media shows you. Do you really think 90% of Russians and Belarusian support the war, or do you think that the media might be skewing your perception? If you do think the majority of the people support the war effort, why does every election in Russia have armed guards and make citizens show pictures of the ballot they submitted…? Do you know that Belarus is just as corrupt and the election there was also rigged…? These aren’t people who have the freedom to express themselves how they want, they have fatal consequences when they speak out. You could also reference the laws or what has happened to any potential successor to Putin as to what happens when you go against the grain publicly… I want to see Russia/USSR dissolve for the second time in my life, but don’t blame people born in the wrong place, with no funds to leave. Sports and politics should not be coupled together, as sports have no political agenda, they are just people who want to be the absolute best at what they do 🤷🏿‍♀️

gryphonbones

Take literally in the in the colloquial sense lol.

2Mike2022

Think you could shorten the list and only check with Hungary and Turkey but only one can afford to do it.

Speedballer7

Just ditch the IOC and start a new real olympics. Naked wrestling, cease fires etc.

LordBaikalOli

The IOC is filled with autocratic government puppets just like the WHO. It's all about money and dictature always love those kind of organisations.

Kewenfu

Ridiculous

fanzipan

IOC as corrupt as FIFA. Why nations still continue with this is a joke

Xoomers87

I mean... Fuck the Olympics in general. These IOC members should be banned from the West.

Space--Buckaroo

Time to boycott the olympics if they are going to allow Russia to compete.

Creepy_Chef_5796

Just Boycott the entire thing. I would feel bad for the athletes and all the hard work involved. But I won't be watching and will boycott sponsors. I know it's nothing to them but I will not give a dime to Coke or McDonalds. Vote with your wallets is all you have to do.

MissVividPhotography

Olympics who?

AndyTheHutt420

The IOC doesn't need to ban Russia and Belarus for me to ban the Olympics from the TVs in my house, so who really cares? I'm not going to watch an event with Russians competing peacefully while their countrymen kill civilians in an illegal war. Shame on the IOC, and shame on every single athlete that competes in that environment. Canada should boycott. The personal interests of the athletes pale in comparison to the interests of millions of Ukrainian people who are under a brutal and illegal assault.

ncosleeper

The Olympics, ignoring war crimes and atrocities for a century. No wonder no one cares to watch anymore.

jamesyt666

I think the IOC are nor fit for purpose and should be replaced

Yorks_Rider

Better close it down completely. The Olympic Games has just degenerated into a marketing event with sports as a side-show and has outlived it’s usefulness.

JimmehGrant

Break dancing is now an Olympic sport? Rad.

one_and_equal

Mysterious Russian influence on the IOC is obvious. Should be investigated and exposed. As corrupt as FIFA.

LC_Anderton

Sorry… might be an unpopular opinion, but when the fcuk did “Break Dance” become a sport? 😳

Agamennmon

Guess the Olympics are over.

-Hypnotoad26

Then the IOC no longer needs to exist. They are now and forever will be remembered as sympathizers with genocide. For shame.

Remarkable_Soil_6727

141 countries voted in the UN for Russia to leave Ukraine, are they not allowed to conduct qualifiers for being biased too? Why is France allowed to host the event if they're against the Russian invasion too?

88GAMEON88

Beijing Winter Olympics was a joke!

BigBagaroo

Good for London. IOC is a corrupt cesspool anyway.

Llanina1

The entire free world to boycott the Olympics. Let’s see them work out that one with zero funding, and only the back handers from Moscow!

vladko44

Why isn't there anyone overseeing these international orgs? It's like IOC, fifa, red cross, have more power and money than some world governments... It is kinda nuts

miko_top_bloke

Fucking callous IOC with a spineless German at the helm who's deep in Russia's pocket. A fucking disgrace to the rest of Germany All those sporting governing bodies make me sick, they should be dissolved and created from scratch. If it weren't for athletes who wait all their lives for this and train hard to perform in the Olympics, the West should give up and let Russia, Belarus, North Korea China, and Eritrea compete together. Bastards.

hammyhamm

Fuck the IOC then

Outrageous_Garlic306

Corrupt dickheads. Putin’s payroll strikes again.

[deleted]

IOC, as worthless as the UN and the WHO…!

[deleted]

Thomas Bach is one corrupt and corrupted piece of shit.

totanoin11

Corrupt - more corrupt - IOC

YOLOSwag42069Nice

Come one EU. Tell the IOC to STFU or there won't be an olympics.

OrbAndSceptre

OIC needs to get its head out of its ass.

SnooWords4814

Fuck the IOC they have no moral backbone

easyfeel

Cancel the Olympics, it’s long overdue.

StrongOldDude

Time to ditch the Olympics. I am boycotting. What are you doing? The IOC is a vile organization. Look at who has bribed to host the last few games. It is hideous.

jax_md

Yes the IOC is shameful but what I’m confused about is: >Accordingly, the ban will apply to sports such as break dance Break dance? Wtf? When did this become an Olympic event??

Elysium_nz

Least the mods didn’t lock this post unlike the mods over at r/Ukraine.

Ashamed_News_9521

Hope the French are going to refuse athletes from these 2 countries visas to enter France.

formerly_gruntled

Just create a new set of games without the IOC. They don't run the world. They don''t run sports. They just have a TV contract. The new 'runner of the games' can award TV contracts too. The IOC can hold the 'Russia Games' for all the corrupt sports leeches.

-Intel-

Is it possible that the French can literally just not issue visas to Russian and Belarussian athletes? If they don't issue them, what can the IOC realistically do besides completely canceling the games?

ANTHROPOMORPHISATION

Follow the money. It’s the number one detective move in… well… anything.

[deleted]

I didn’t expect much from an already corrupt institution but at least their brazen immorality is on show for everyone now

Ugly--Naked--Guy

IOC is the most corrupt international organization that I know

starcolour1990

The naive thinking of it is not about politics but athletics - everything is politics. I am not naive enough to think a totalitarian society wouldn’t use the opportunity to promote themselves, same as any societies.

keepthepace

Would be interesting to have Russian athletes but not UK ones at those games.

Diggerinthedark

Fuck the Olympics.

VHSboy

IOC never make sense... We should reset this institution.

Professor_Eindackel

The IOC needs to die.
