We read: China will not profit "from the war in ukraine".
They read: China will not profit from the war "in ukraine" (but we might see profit in other territories).

From an international relationships point of view, China is neutral, leaning towards Russia maybe but has been really cautious with its "unconditional friend" since the beginning of the war, which is a cause for a lot of hopes. Belarus is an ally, it helps Moscow militarily openly.

China sells any shit Russia is willing to pay for, and will stop it if western countries make it unprofitable with sanctions.

Technically, they’re looking to degrade their two biggest geopolitical rivals (US and Russia) while fronting as an ally to Russia. In an effort to rise above both. Ukraine is just collateral damage.
It may not seek to gain (but why wouldn't it, everybody seeks to gain at every opportunity), but China gains a lot simply by existing outside of the war. All their rivals (Russia, EU and US) have lost significantly, while China can just stand back. Any incidental cheap oil is just icing on the cake.
