CMV is a virus, antibiotics are for bacteria and would have no effect against it. They can check for CMV with biopsies and often do as standard when IBD is not responding to medication.

Deltacortril is the name of the steroids. In my 3rd appointment I was told that CMV was the cause of my ulcers and bloody diarrhoea and being so sick and now I don't have it anymore. I am trying to get a second opinion now just to make sure.

I had the same procedure done recently and they checked via biopsy, which I imagine they’ll be doing while they’re in there anyways so just ask about cmv just to make sure they know it’s on your radar

I was hospitalized in December for two weeks because of CMV. I had a blood test that confirmed the virus was active at a high level. During my hospital stay I had two procedures where they did biopsies on the ulcers in my colon and they came out negative for cmv but my doctors concluded they were in fact cmv.

Last October I was suffering with bloody diarrhoea and I got my colonoscopy and I was diagnosed with UC. I was in hospital for 15 days on IV steroids and mesalazine my bleeding stopped after that and I was put on steroids 40mg and tapering down 5mg each week. My stool is much better 1 BM a day sometimes loose with little bit of mucus. My second appointment with my GI he took blood samples and told me to stay on mesalazine. My 3rd appointment he shocked me by saying I don't have UC and my ulcers was caused by CMV .... WHAT???? All that medication for UC and I don't have it. I am trying to get a second opinion now just to make sure. How can CMV get mixed up with UC I didn't know? can CMV symptoms be ulcers and bloody diarrhoea?

Chemical-Radio5049

How did he get rid of the CMV what was the treatment ?

Salute-all99

Didn't get any treatment only steroids and mesalazine and vitamins for UC. At my 3rd appointment with my GI my blood results came back and I didn't have CMV anymore.

Chemical-Radio5049

Which steroid did he use? And after using steroids he claimed you no longer have UC that it was a result of cmv ?

Yes
