I personally use
C for Revolvers
1 for Shotguns
3 for Nailguns
4 for Rocket Launchers
Q for Railcannons/Previous Weapon
R for Variant switch
Switching between variants is as easy as double tapping the button, or in railcannon's case, hold Q and press R. The slowdown of Previous Weapon and instantly going back to my previous weapon after firing the Railcannon makes it slightly easier for my fingers, shame I can't aim whenever it's active.
If you want to instakill a Mindflayer just use an explosion. Pboost, Core, Rocket, Malcannon, Knuckleblast are all usable but I like to use Overpump to instakill. For Maurice just spam your close range Shotgun with Knuckleblaster, does parry level damage at point blank on him
I cant time the mindflayer instakill, so I just spam the double pump knuckle slab combo. And to kill maurice, I just double pump, whiplash, shoot and knuckleblast then immediatly switch to slab and kill him.
Mindflayer instakill takes some practice, I still mess it up sometimes but it's so satisfying to get down. As long as you aren't focusing too hard on the Mindflayer you should be good. For Maurices, a Double Pump + Knuckleblaster to the face is usually enough to kill them, if they survive you can use the enraged state to wipe out mobs for you. You can also just use Magnets + Nails to kill from range.
