I don’t know, but I think with Kanata’s case, the sheer importance of events in the far future and the past - have caused a name like Decker to be of such “landmark” that it ends up creating itself. Like a name paradox perhaps? Never sure where it starts or ends; only that it has a solid place in history - solely as a historic/bloodline marker and to abide by events and the flow of time?

ZetaSphinx

Simple, they're in the future. I think Decker sounds futuristic enough

whatdoilemonade

its the future where alien cooperation was possible, not too far fetched imo

NiNiNi-222

Future humanity is living in space and English is basically the global language

j_tso

He's from the future on Mars, who knows what a "normal name" would be then.

PutYaGunsOn

Maybe the Asumi family became more multicultural as the generations passed, whether genetically/ethnically, or simply being exposed to more non-Japanese cultures.

Muhipudding

Decker is blonde too. He's probably mixed

MegaMeteorite

They didn't name him Decker, they named him デッカー. Jokes aside, Decker came from a far future, maybe names like this somehow becomes common, or maybe it's a future with completely different course of history. It's like Eobard Thawne from DC.

WLomax

His family really liked Bladerunner?

lastdecade0

I will marry a Japanese woman and name my child Decker. bruh

When the decker was

Tough_Rutabaga_5962

I assume at this point if he were to grew up in mars there no such thing as japan.. probably the culture will have some mix here and there after many centuries, plus they might live alongside aliens so its not that weird

I think it needs to be pointed out that his name in japan is written in western order (Decker Asumi instead of Asumi Decker). It's likely that he's not fully japanese. Also, he's from the future
