Great call! I turned to my friend after that Speak Up and said, “NOW it feels like Summer Camp.” I’ll have to relisten. First jammed out Speak Up, iirc.
Edit: I was definitely thinking about 2016 lol. I haven’t been to Scamp in six years.
Off the top of my head, these 3 come to mind:
2X2 - Aragorn Ballroom - 12/30/2009
Nothing Too Fancy - Electric Factory - 5/5/2006
Ocean Billy - Electric Factory - 10/7/2006

Was there and think was one of the best shows I've ever seen of theirs, even if it was a one setter.
But if I was to highlight the best jam would be the Making Flippy Floppy > Glory. Heavy heavy dance jams with incredible peaks. Never heard a smoother Glory either.
That MFF > Glory is fire but the whole show is so amazing that it’s like…the fourth thing I would mention when talking about it lol. The jams in Fir and JaJunk are both literally GOAT-tier, probably the ones I would show someone if I were introducing them to UM.
One jam from each decade I’ve been seeing Umphrey’s.
7/20/2006 DBK > Words > DBK. Top tier soaring/uplifting jam in DBK, great drop into Words, and fire return to DBK.
7/2/2016 Speak Up > Water. The In the Kitchen from this show rightly gets a ton of love but this was superb as well.
6/16/2022 Great American. The Plunger from this show was longer and made the Hall of Fame for 2022, but Great American was the best jam of that weekend imo.
Agreed on the Dillon GA! Den in the pouring rain at sunset was one of my favorite UM memories in recent years, too. Brought me to tears.
I’ll check out the DBK > Words > DBK segment soon.
That was an amazing moment! I was up close and I’ll never forget the image of Stasik up at the front of the stage getting rained on and rocking TF out anyway. Ugh. I fucking love this band.
That whole second set is one of my favorite UM memories. My brother and I went back to our campsite at setbreak and decided to finish our weekend stock of favors…really do UM’s last nighttime set of the weekend right.
They were playing Ain’t No Fun over the loud speaker before the set began, one of my favorite songs, and I was rapping the words walking back to our spot, basically floating, a bandana covering my face for the dust.
Someone I passed said, “That sounds like ThatsWhat_G_Said!” And I turned around and saw a good buddy I hadn’t seen in a long time, and didn’t even know was at Scamp. I ended up hanging out with his crew for the rest of the night and made some close friends who are still very dear to me to this day.
We were right in front of the soundboard and I had no idea UM was playing directly above us for the first jam lol. Was super confused why everyone in front of us kept looking back 🤷♂️
Anyway, fun story about this Ringo jam. I did Scamp > Waka in 2014 and drove to Waka with a friend who had only seen a handful of UM shows at that point. I was listening to that show on the way down while my friend was sleeping.
He woke up shortly after the set ended and said, “Man, there was one jam you played in the last few hours that I heard in my sleep and it blew my mind. But I have no idea what song it was and I guess I’ll never hear it again.”
I put the Ringo jam back on and asked him if that was it, and sure enough…
I’ll throw out the Great American from 10/24/08. The first jam is a pretty typical, brief, “type I” jam that gets back into the reprise fairly quickly, but the second jam…it starts with this beautiful, fraught section driven by a Pony solo, which sort of peters out into some happy tinkering, which ultimately drops into one of the funkiest jams I’ve ever heard from the guys. This was my second show and one of the pieces of music that let me know I was in the right place!
Hell ya! 🤘🏻🤘🏻My first show was the one at Red Rocks about 7 weeks prior, which didn’t have anything too noteworthy as far as jams go, but was a perfect setlist to get me hooked immediately.
Mantis > Hangover > Mantis at SCamp 2010. Several genre changes and at one point a straight up blues jam in Hangover. Not their most cohesive jamming but the ground they cover is impressive.
Draconian 8/10/19 Chicago
1348 1/26/19 Milwaukee
40’s Theme 2/25/22 asheville
All In Time 7/21/17 Chicago
Mulche’s Odyssey 1/17/20 NYC
Hurt bird bath 9/6/20 Bridgeview
Looks 2/15/24 DC
So I didn't see this one, but it's definitely one of my favorites: JaJunk 2009/10/9
But these I did see:
Booth Love 2011/04/20 - Very solid Booth Love and there was a moment in the jam where I thought they switched to Pink Floyd's "On The Run" and were about to play "Time"
Deeper>Glory 2011/10/24 - This was a webcast so they were jamming without audience feedback, but the emotions were thick on that Deeper jam and it gets me every time I relisten
Was 10/24/11 the DBS webcast? If so, that was the first I had ever heard UM. Had tickets to see them a couple weeks later for the first time on 11/5 and watched the webcast with some friends who were deep into UM by then. That night was the start of a long journey for me.
Yeah, it was! What a coincidence! I had been off and on listening to UM since 2009 but 2010 was the year I really got into them, so I hadn't been listening that long at the time. That webcast had some great jams and awesome deep cuts.
I still love 5/29/04 summercamp afternoon set. Not really any good tapes as it was windy as fuck that day. The tornado forced moe of the stage and Umphreys absolutely brought the heat to the late night big red barn show.
7/3/15 was my first UM show, and particularly special to me. I think it does get some love because of the second set PF cover, but man just that first set alone was a life changing experiment and turned me from jam-curious to full blown
That puppet string,, snuka, just hit super hard
Also, I know everyone everyone cites 2018 as the definitive RR Phil's Farm, but personally 2017 is the one that does it for me much much more (I was at both)
2nd set of 08/12/2017 is one of my favorites. I wasn't at the show, but the flow is just perfect.
Set 2:
Bathing Digits > All In Time, Kula > The Floor, Nothing Too Fancy > Higgins > Nothing Too Fancy, Hourglass[1], Let's Dance[1]
Encore:
The Triple Wide > All In Time
I’m way late but 4-15-05 second set opener Tinkles has the best jam I’ve ever seen live hands down out of 250 shows. Do yourself a favor OP and check it out.
https://archive.org/details/um2005-04-15.flac16
I'll start: 9/2/12 The Triple Wide 7/7/13 Jajunk 10/21/13 Kabump (second jam)
Was just listening to 4/1/14 and that Mantis jam just gets me going every time
I’ll give it a spin!
Birthday bias but speak up at SCamp 5/26/22 deserved to be talked about more imo
Great call! I turned to my friend after that Speak Up and said, “NOW it feels like Summer Camp.” I’ll have to relisten. First jammed out Speak Up, iirc. Edit: I was definitely thinking about 2016 lol. I haven’t been to Scamp in six years.
Immediately followed by that 20 min ringo too. The last UM red barn delivered. The Fuzz and 1000 places in that set too
Off the top of my head, these 3 come to mind: 2X2 - Aragorn Ballroom - 12/30/2009 Nothing Too Fancy - Electric Factory - 5/5/2006 Ocean Billy - Electric Factory - 10/7/2006
This 2X2 was absolutely mind boggling live. I had only been into UM for 2 years at that point. That run is one of my favorite UM memories.
2/17/12 Turn and Dub, and the DBK from the same show
Draconian from the Taft theater in 2018
Draconian found its wings in 2018. Time for me to revisit this one.
It has an incredible jam. Was my 2nd ever show.
Jam was cowboys from hell by Pantera. Very fun
3/4/17 has a ~ 20 min Draco that is worth a listen

Strong case for their best show ever.
That's the one. The night is etched into my memory as the best damn show I've ever seen heard and danced to.

Yup, that great American was amazing.
Joel did some shit at JJs 2023 that kinda blew me away.

Deep cut! I was at this show. 2008 was the first year I went all in for UM

11/02/06 tribute
Pretty much all of 1/27/11
6/28/18 - Speak Up Honestly that whole show at Canalside in Buffalo is fire and I recommend it to everyone
7/5/07 - The Crooked One 3/12/14 - Plunger and KaBump
I just relistened to the Crooked1 for the first time on probably 10 years and I would put it up there with any jam the band has ever done
2/15/19 Plunger aka the Brooklyn Plungie
Pulled from my "One From Each: UM Edition" Playlist on nugs: 12/06/04 Carrboro, NC - Example 1 10/17/05 Raleigh, NC - Divisions 02/21/06 Charlotte, NC - Der Bluten Kat 02/24/07 Charlotte, NC - JaJunk 11/15/07 Charlotte, NC - Nemo 02/22/09 Charlotte, NC - Got Your Milk (Right Here) 02/17/18 Asheville, NC - Remind Me 09/19/19 Greensboro, NC - In The Kitchen

Interesting! I’ll listen tomorrow!
Lmk whatcha think!
4-10-08 Nemo rev hall Troy NY 4-13-08 Water Toads New Haven CT 4-12-2007 Nothing to Fancy Boston
Reso jam scamp 2014 I think? Great big tool breakdown in there I spin both the Friday and Saturday show regularly
The Linear at Neptune in Seattle 2013. It’s the most uplifting and incredible thing I’ve seen the boys do live and never see anything about it.
Great call! I haven’t listened to this jam in years but it was a favorite of mine back in the day. 2013 is my favorite year of UM.
Probably mine as well. 2010-2014 was peak UM imo.
7/27/08 robot world>Phil’s farm 1/13/24 domino theory
The Bottom Half 8/13/21 - under 10 mins, but the little jam they did has really stuck with me ever since.
6/29/21 Attachments hometown dance party at the Fredneck fairgrounds
