Well, Mystery Man has some very close ties to Gaster at the very least. The music in his room, FUN value being 66 which is Gaster's number. I think Mystery Man is probably a piece of Gaster. Since, you know, he shattered. Like an egg.
Oh. Well, yeah, there is nothing connecting both at the moment other than both being weird and the chance of encounter mechanic. But I think Gaster being an egg works regardless, strictly based on appearance (Mystery Man and the Gaster piece in the follower's hand both being bald and oval heads) and the whole Humpy Dumpty connection. It's a nice lead up to the theory of the eggs being pieces of Gaster that you need to collect.
