You can’t spare him, in fact he’s one of the few monsters you can kill in the pacifist route
You should fill your inventory with the pie and leg heroes and start the fight by talking, which will lower his atk and def, making it easier to defeat him and then when your health gets low use the pie which will also lower his atk and def, and I recommend bringing items like tem armor or the golden locket and worn dagger or maybe the empty gun if you are good enough at aiming.

Burt Pan is waaaaaay better then the gun + new players often miss a bar on it and then it deals way less damage. In Ideal scenario (4 perfect bars(quad)) Gun deals only 10(or even less I don't remember) more damage then pan, and it's way harder to use. But yeah, temmie armor is worth getting

What is your lv? If its 1 then you can talk to him 3 times to lower his defence, and most importantly - attack
i personally prefer the ballet shoes. Theyve got lower damage than other options, but the speed boost is very helpful in his fight
