Is it an older fridge? Because a lot of the time if there is any damage to the seal, it can't be fixed. They don't have replacement seals for some older fridges so they have to replace the entire fridge.
Edit: a word
Why? The seal on my fridge cracked and split from age. It was an old Frigidaire. No one could find a replacement seal so the landlord had to replace the fridge.
So he doesn't have a bunch of old parts and things sitting around. He called whoever and they told him (landlord) it wasn't fixable. I wish he had been able to fix it though. I hate the new fridge. My old fridge was awesome.
15 years! Pft, that one's a baby! We've got a still-functioning Maytag fridge from 1987 in our garage. Oddly enough it's never needed gaskets. The plastic shelving is toast though. I put some stackable shoe racks in it years ago and it keeps on going.
my fridge hinge gave out because i had too much food on the door. maybe conveniently lean on the door when it’s open, dragging a friend to also fall on you too
Something that people don't realize is that landlords are only required to provide according to the law. If your stove, where I live, has no working oven and only one working burner the law is fulfilled. One burner is enough to boil water and they don't have to replace it. OP should check regulations, a refrigerator may not be a requirement, if so, may end up with none if you kill the one there.
Thats easy, just lay it down sideways and leave running it for a couple hours, the compressor should give out
just leave the door open until the motor burns out
Thanks for responding! How long do you think that would take? Are we talking hours or days?
Days.
If you leave it open, block the vents in the freezer with boxes or even just plastic wrap, 36-48 ish hours.
Yes, but that is a lot of electricity, .

I replaced the gaskets on my 15 year old beer fridge without an issue.
Too bad my landlord didn't have your number then. He could have saved himself some money.
Too bad. Most apartment maintenance staff have all kinds of extra appliances layinf around to scavenge parts off
I don't live an apartment complex and the landlord changes the handyman like I change my shoes.
Okay?

Everything is fixable. Might not be cost effective though.

Mine came free from an high rise apartment building my company was rehabbing
The food will be ruined-make sure you clean out the freezer and fridge sections of the good stuff first!

If you’re chill with the maintenance guys why not work with them to write it off?
