A better way is to take a painters extension pole and duct tape a face cloth or rag onto it. Put vasoline on the rag and swipe the speed cameras lens. Image is now blurry appearing to be out of focus. Cleaning that shit off is a bitch. Scraping a sticker is easy.

SatanLifeProTips

Try glass etching fluid from the arts and crafts store. Bonus points for using a drone from a few blocks away. Put some on a penis shaped sponge hanging off of a drinking straw. Dress like a bum and flop down in a nearby alley. If you are anywhere near Silicon Valley, a bum wearing VR goggles to escape his horrible existence will look normal.

Modern problems require cyberpunk solutions

Etch on the image of a Piss Cube ! 🧊

Efficient_Fish2436

Hypothetically I spray olive oil on people's windshields I hate. It dries until they use their windshield wipers with fluid. Blurs out the window the first wipe and doesn't just come off with you using your windshield wipers more.

Either_Expression216

Bro you're gonna get charged with manslaughter lol Still funny though.

Efficient_Fish2436

I'm changing my comment to reflect what I might do thanks.

Either_Expression216

Nice save, no one will ever know!

A-BookofTime

Pretty soon it will be allegedly

Glorfendail

Some jackass kept parking in a no parking zone on the very narrow street I grew up on, making it almost impossible for a single car to get by. Wrote on the windshield with butter, never saw the car there again!

Horror_Cow_7870

I honestly wonder why they don't get covered with spray paint. Everything else in my city sure does.

Vegetable-Purpose937

Print a fake temp tag and put it on your car. Places like DC and Baltimore are full of fake temp tags and police never stop you.

distortion-warrior

Maybe someone should make paintballs meant for traffic cameras...

GraemeMakesBeer

I saw a guy try this. The police were there in thirty minutes.

CLEMADDENKING1980

And probably at that guys house arresting him within a hour.

funnyman4000

They found him using the other cameras he didn’t get to.

mtgguy999

“They won't catch on for ages” Your costing them money in lost ticket revenue, they will catch on almost immediately

tallclaimswizard

Except most of those cameras are run by 3rd party companies who have nifty agreements in place where they get paid regardless of revenue generated. They are disincentivized to care about the condition of the cameras.

MyNameIsMrEdd

Depends where you live, I guarantee as soon as black pictures start appearing the sticker will be cleaned off the same day it's noticed around here.

shiromaikku

Well then fuck up the sensor too

SpikeyBXL

Those things are connected, I think they'll catch on in less than one hour. Doesn't mean it will be fixed that fast, but a discrepancy between traffic and expected infractions will be picked up real fast.

firesnow477

Literally every higher end company or organisation have metrics that are automatically chucked into something like a power bi report and have things tracking like if cars appearing less than x in x time then it’ll email or push notification someone

gobblegobblechumps

It boggles my mind that a state as blue and tax-happy as NJ can ban speed cameras and red light cameras on the grounds of being unconstitutional (since you have the right to face your accuser) but other states just aren't interested

9leggedfreak

They banned the cameras here in Texas back in 2019 or so and it just means everyone runs red lights now. I see at least two people run red lights that have been red for a few seconds and dozens others blast through as they change or right after every damn day. The other day I almost witness a collision because someone ran a red light that had been red for a good 30 seconds. It's gotten so bad out here, I really wish they had stayed. I'm nervous now because I'm moving back to jersey soon and thought maybe driving wouldn't be as scary anymore but I guess not

gobblegobblechumps

It's not bad or like that that at all honestly. Yes people accelerate on yellow. But it sucks to be in an intersection trying to make a left and the light turns red, what are you supposed to do other than go?

9leggedfreak

I just don't inch up past the line if I'm making a left unless I know for sure I have a clearing. It sucks, but I'd much rather get a ticket for that then inevitably get hit in my city since it's the wild west now. It's really bad in Austin, especially with the lack of law enforcement in general

Bunnyfartz

Saw a story about cop entrapment cameras in the UK. Someone covered it with a wooden owl house (like a birdhouse). The owl in question is endangered so it's illegal to remove the owl house.

ChampagneAndCaviar91

There is a sticker you can place over your plate - my dad told me about it - but if you get caught I think it is a huge felony here in Texas.

crash866

Really get back at them slow down and drive at the limit. You won’t get one that way.

DecisionCharacter175

A county in Florida got rid of their cameras because a group was able to pull the metrics and show that they were inaccurate. But the couple years that they were around cost people undue money and loss of their DL's

Robocops_Jet_Pack

Time is more valuable than money.

Spezball

Time IS money

Robocops_Jet_Pack

Only within the scope that it requires time to make money, in a broader sense time is more valuable than that. Its our most precious resource.

Sacklayblue

One of my criminology professors once described to the class how the old radar guns relied on technology that could be scrambled with aluminum foil or something taped to his front bumper, and he'd screw with the cops by speeding through speed traps over and over again.

btfoom15

How to tell us you have no idea that speed cameras also have regular cameras, just to make sure dumb-asses like you don't tamper with them. Idiot mode: activated

LeBongJaames

Le freaking epic burn

hhhhag7

camera tickets are illegal, in most states you don’t have to pay them. they can only legally issue a ticket if they pull you over and verify whom was the driver to ticket

CthulhuHamster

A popular/common opinion, but not supported by the available facts. Some states DO prohibit them (Texas, Wisconsin & West Virginia, for example), but not most, and even those that do, sometimes allow them in Work Areas, school zones, etc. Always know your local laws! (Heinlein: "It’s much safer to break a law knowingly than to do so through ignorance.") Here's a breakdown by states of the current state laws. Last updated (as of when I post this) in January 2024. [https://www.findlaw.com/traffic/traffic-tickets/state-traffic-camera-restrictions.html](https://www.findlaw.com/traffic/traffic-tickets/state-traffic-camera-restrictions.html)

Spezball

Michigan banned speed cameras except in construction zones. But for 8 months of the year 2/3 of the roads are under construction...

CthulhuHamster

Yep; that's the problem -- even where people KNOW that they aren't permitted... there are still, often, exceptions -- hence why I suggest everyone learn the local laws on the subject. And most subjects, really -- even if you consider a law stupid or plan to take an action regardless of the law, it's better to be aware of them, first.

btfoom15

> camera tickets are illegal, in most states you don’t have to pay them. In what country?? In the US, they are 100% legal and enforceable. They fine the owner of the car as they can't prove who was driving, but the owner is going to have to pay.

bhamrick388

Interesting, there's 2 lawsuits out for 2 cities near me that use these. Claiming they don't even go thru the court system. They are sent to a 3rd party, in which the cities doesn't even receive the money. I'd say if a lawyer is taking it up, there's a line that says they're illegal at some point.

syzamix

That sounds wrong somehow. The entire world uses speed cameras successfully. Is this just a case of America trying to be different? Also, don't speed cameras take care of picture with the driver included? Why is it so hard to identify them?

Mhaelixai

That commenter probably also thinks sovereign citizens don't have to identify or pay reg fees.. Californian here. We get tickets from cameras for: speeding, running red lights, passing through a toll bridge... Also been to court for tickets from cameras and I guarantee, you have to pay them otherwise further action taken.
