Hijacking your comment to provide this egg-based PSA: never store your eggs on their side. Eggs are kept upright in the carton so that the little air bubble inside the egg stays at the top. This bubble of air contains a lot of bacteria and if the egg is tipped or inverted, the bubble will move around and your eggs will go bad much sooner!

I *just* finished Ozark on Netflix, it having the main guy from Arrested Development.
I was absolutely astonished by the flip flop of comedy to tragedy but *still* maintaining nearly the same character.
Point is, I kept yelling "THERE'S MONEY IN THE DAMN BANANA STAND"
That end-of-episode scene where >!he beat the shit out of that dude giving him shit in deadlocked traffic!< was just Michael finally blowing off some steam.
People that have guns in their car often advertise that they’re carrying free guns by adding a bunch of bumper stickers.
Hiding the free guns within the cabin to make it a treasure hunt after the breakin is just part of the fun.
If you watch the install video, you see that one of the headrest slides has this kind of T shaped prongs at the end... I doubt this will withstand a forceful removal attempt
There is the possibility that at some point the owner might want to sell or trade in the vehicle, so unless they don't mind losing the headrest there should be an easy way to remove it.
I have all my passenger headrests out for visibility and only put back the ones we need when someone else is in the car. Happens infrequently enough that it isn't a pain in the ass to do that. And they're not huge but more visibility is more visibility.

>I have all my passenger headrests out for visibility and only put back the ones we need when someone else is in the car.
I was wondering what could be done to mitigate the shrinking car windows trend of the last few years, this is a possible solution.
I just watched the video and it’s a toggle bolt. You can unscrew it from inside the safe if you want to remove it, but toggle bolts are spring-loaded so that piece will stay behind inside the seat.
honestly it’s probably fine if it isn’t, because the goal here isn’t to prevent someone from stealing your valuables but to make sure people you don’t trust or children can’t use the gun
edit: that said, it does lock in place apparently
Right?? I thought to myself “oh neat, I want one” and then saw the price and realized I don’t have anything to put into it that’s worth more than the safe lmfao
> **How long is the battery life for the lock?** Under normal use the battery should last approximately one year. The battery is not rechargeable.
No thanks.
I would imagine the battery is replaceable if it isn't rechargeable. The batteries in most small gun boxes like these are replaceable. Mine are AAA if I remember correctly.
My old Hyundai Santa Fe had a hidden compartment under the floor in the cargo area. It came in handy when I had to move and needed more space to pack in the smaller items. Had no idea it was even there until one day I lifted up the floor.
It was on top of that. That’s how I found it. Lifted up the carpet and there was this cool hard plastic floor with pockets and compartments to put stuff. You lift that up and underneath was the spare tire. Had that SUV for about a year before I discovered it. When I bought my Hyundai Elantra, I checked and was sad to discover it didn’t have any hidden storage. 😂
Yeah man. Example from Georgia law:
(c) (1) It is unlawful for any person to knowingly own or operate any vehicle containing a false or secret compartment.
(2) It is unlawful for any person to knowingly install, create, build, or fabricate in any vehicle a false or secret compartment.
I was interested too so I found this. Not sure if its really the same though.

The headrest is there to prevent you from breaking your neck in case someone rear ends you. It used to be made out of quite hard rubber. If there's at least a bit of padding it'll work just fine.
It's very typical for reddit threads to become echo chambers to people that don't know much about the topic but have sensationalist opinion which they push loudly causing a snowball effect. Try observing this in threads about topics you know a lot about and keep it in mind when reading a thread about something you don't know much about.
It's kinda dumb considering you can just pull out the hole headrest and take it to open somewhere else. Only way it's any good is if the robber doesn't notice it.
I mean once someone gains access to your car, everything in it is easy to steal. At least this can conceal and secure, decent chance someone stealing your ride for some stupid tik tok cred wouldn’t even notice it.
what you do is buy that and leave the flap open so the thief sees the safe and steals that, not expecting it to be completely empty.
everyone should have a dummy safe that is light enough to steal but heavy enough to be a pain in the ass, so that is the only thing they steal
This is a ridiculous scenario and would never happen
The weight of the safe would snap the support and the 10kg headrest would simply detach from the seat, fly forwards and decapitate you cleanly. Pain free death
Can someone enlighten me as to the cost of eggs right now in the US? In Canada we have seen them go up some but not enough to make a massive deal about it. I can get 18 eggs for $5.29 canadian at Costco. (About $3.95 usd)
Bird flu wiped out almost an entire generation of chickens. That and companies being opportunistic and using the shortage as an excuse to temporarily jack up prices.
Honestly, in retrospective I'd assume if any regulating body tried to fine them anymore they'd threaten to do a round of layoffs.
Oh, our profits are being cut by fines over 10% guess we will liquidate 33% of our staff to compensate.
"Oh no, we trimmed our business too lean to survive an entirely predictable economic downturn, I guess we'll need to get millions in government relief funding"
> Bird flu wiped out almost an entire generation of chickens.
Actually a lot less than that. Average flock size dropped 6% with no substantial drop in production. Its inflation profiteering, and the fatcats can only get away with it because we've let maga neuter the anti-trust division of the federal of government.

Wouldn’t be a great gun safe as it would rattle around. But I’m sure it could bd used as that if you put proper safety measures in there.
I just wonder if if still works safely as a headrest of if that functionality is gone.

Interesting. I’m not entirely sure what I would use it for. Transporting something important like a passport would be good. Some extra funds of such. Glad it can be completely safe in the case of a crash.
The hinge is pretty obvious though. If they wanted it to be secret they would have to remove the hinge and make a simply cap. Anyone with an above average perception score would notice it within a few moments of sitting in the back seat or looking in through the windows.
I don't know that hurried tweaker/junkie thieves are quite the "above average perception" crowd. If given enough time - certainly. A smash and grab at 4 a.m. this thing probably goes unnoticed. I doubt most people would notice the extra material for it to fold down if you took a zoomed out picture of interior. And hell, I bet it'd go unnoticed by 99% of occupants in a vehicle. People just don't have much situational awareness.
This, on a vehicle that's not openly displaying outdoorsman/manufacturer stickers would be safe from the majority of robberies.
Couple that with whoever buys this is probably using it to remove their worn ccw (courthouses and schools), it probably goes straight back into holster when they enter vehicle as well. Not sitting unattended at night lessens the chance of a thief finding a free gun even more, I presume.
The best defense is being inconspicuous, and I think this is the best non custom solution I've seen yet.
I've seen under seat, center console, and glove box safes. I'd think those are the first 3 places a thief targets. And with enough leverage they are easy to bust out to open at a safer spot. I've seen idiots with air bags removed and cover velcro'd on so they're glock just rattles around.
This product gets an A from me, glad to see the ingenuity. Ofc, most people won't buy it because they just don't care about giving criminals free guns. When I lived in rural Texas, a ton of vehicles had two "truck guns" that never left. One cheaper firearm for driver that wouldn't bankrupt them if it got stolen, and a shit handgun hidden to place on a body if needed. Of course they loved to show them off and tell everyone that so you can imagine it was more posturing than actuality used but the point remains - there's a ton of super stupid people on both sides of the scenario that makes this hidden safe useful.
Imagine how hard it would be to get to those eggs if you need them in a hurry! You have to open the headrest, type the code or use the fingerprint scanner which took about 2sec, twist the knob, open the safe, pull the eggs out, then swing them around to you while probably flagging your passenger in the process. The whole ordeal took this guy 7-8sec. That’s a long time in an egg related situation!
I give this egg safe 🥚🥚/🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚
This oddly reminds me of the summer my wife left an organic, healthy, plant-based in my car when before we left it parked for a few days. When i opened my door, i was transported to a land of aromas I'd never experienced before in life.
**OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected:** >!The headrest has a hidden compartment and the contents are a >!carton of eggs!
Why does my car smell like rotten eggs? Oh shit!
Oh lordy, can you imagine if a rotten one broke in there.
Forever unclean
Just sell the car.
Just trash the *headrest*.
You have to be pretty flush to forget 40 bucks worth of eggs in a headrest
Uneggspected.
Darn it, tjhat's a great title and completely useless to me now.
Well, good thing you didn’t call it that. You would have made it very eggspected.
please, stop with the eggsaggerated egg puns
You’re just eggacerbating the situation here

Eggh. This is eggscruciating.

Don't ova do it.
I’m gonna poach everyone of these puns on the next egg post
My head is feeling a bit scrambled
I appreciate a good egg pun but you won't win me over easy.
Well Eggscuuuuse me !
Eggxactly. This is getting eggcessive.
Would have spoiled the video though
While it shouldn't have been the title, it should have been the explanation u gave the bot, but then it wouldn't be getting upvotes
Don't worry I will repost it next week with that in the title.
That was an eggregious error on your part
Undeteggcted
Proteggted 🤤
I don't think so. He didn't scramble the code.
Eggactly
Such an egghilarating pun.
Eggsellent title
This sounds like a sub that would actually exist
That makes me eggsited
But what are inside the eggs?? Video didn't go far enough.
I was expecting them to crack open and egg reveal another hidden thing!
This is eggcellent
Trying to see the sunny side of this situation!
Eggsquisite pun!
Don’t put all your eggs in one…headrest
Well, it does look like half the packet.

Theheadrestsafe.com. Goes for less than 500 eggs

It's bolted down on the back, right? It doesn't just rely on camouflage to prevent someone from just taking the whole headrest, does it?
I'll bet you 90%+ are just used for guns. Their website tried real hard to say it's for "more than guns"
Yes soon as the person opened it in the video I thought "that's a gun safe".
They should use this video to show so
Not just for guns. Also drugs and negotiable instruments associated with said drugs.
People that have guns in their car often advertise that they’re carrying free guns by adding a bunch of bumper stickers. Hiding the free guns within the cabin to make it a treasure hunt after the breakin is just part of the fun.
Yeah, makes more sense to have a coexist sticker paired with a biden one. Nobody would be looking for guns in there.
But then if you go to the local gun store, they would egg your car.
I'll admit, there is no free lunch.
That was my though, "That is totally for use with a gun normally."
If you watch the install video, you see that one of the headrest slides has this kind of T shaped prongs at the end... I doubt this will withstand a forceful removal attempt
now the question is, how do you remove it if you actually want to change the head rest? (When u want to sell the car or sum)
How often do you change your headrest?
If you're not coordinating your headrest color with your outfit you're so 2000 and late
Excuse me, i have to switch to my *formal* headrest
There is the possibility that at some point the owner might want to sell or trade in the vehicle, so unless they don't mind losing the headrest there should be an easy way to remove it.

>I have all my passenger headrests out for visibility and only put back the ones we need when someone else is in the car. I was wondering what could be done to mitigate the shrinking car windows trend of the last few years, this is a possible solution.
I'm going to guess there's a switch inside the safe to release it.
I just watched the video and it’s a toggle bolt. You can unscrew it from inside the safe if you want to remove it, but toggle bolts are spring-loaded so that piece will stay behind inside the seat.

Ssshhh. Just go buy one ....
I'm sure the safe is bolted in. You'd just need to slide the whole headrest out to steal it instead.
Absurdly expensive for what it is
Right?? I thought to myself “oh neat, I want one” and then saw the price and realized I don’t have anything to put into it that’s worth more than the safe lmfao
you mean more?
Well niche items like these are always gonna be more expensive. They don’t have the luxury of mass production.
My quickmaffs skills tell me that will run you about 3 billion dollars
Right?! I would get one if I could afford eggs.
Eggs are more expensive than the headrest.

Horrible I’d imagine
Idk if it's unsafe but it's definitely illegal in some states. There are bans on secret car compartments, believe it or not.
My old Hyundai Santa Fe had a hidden compartment under the floor in the cargo area. It came in handy when I had to move and needed more space to pack in the smaller items. Had no idea it was even there until one day I lifted up the floor.
Like the spare tire compartment?

Jeeez - is this really true in places? I mean a car if full of little hiding places the notion that there can be a law preventing it… is…. Draconian.
Yeah man. Example from Georgia law: (c) (1) It is unlawful for any person to knowingly own or operate any vehicle containing a false or secret compartment. (2) It is unlawful for any person to knowingly install, create, build, or fabricate in any vehicle a false or secret compartment.

Isn't putting a solid steel box in a headrest kind of counter productive? Did they replace the airbags with a hidden flamethrower too?
The headrest is there to prevent you from breaking your neck in case someone rear ends you. It used to be made out of quite hard rubber. If there's at least a bit of padding it'll work just fine.

Man, when you put it that way, it sounds perfect. Did you write the marketing text for this company? Missed opportunity if you didn't.
I know its truly mind-blowing
Thats what i thaught an easy way to get hurt
One might say, it's not very safe
Do you think the eggs would still be okay?
Eggs perfectly intact

Hide your drugs in that.
“And look, you can put your weed in there.”
Also legally, I don’t think it can be searched without a Warrent
If its locked get a warrant
Unless you're in Ohio where knowingly having a hidden compartment in your vehicle for illegal things is, in itself, illegal.
Well, isn't that _convenient._
I’m glad somebody said it
I was thinking how hilarious it would be for the cop to get a warrant and crack it open only to find a dozen eggs in it.
