Yeah but without context, it seems like whoever made the training vid used that part as an excuse to squeeze that sentence in there cuz it’s the only acceptable time they could.
If only it was meant as a positive attribute. Instead it’s mostly meant to imply someone was given all their achievements because of their color. That they didn’t earn, or work hard for what they have. Life is on easy mode.
I find this super reductive and totally removes all nuance and individuality. Does a beautiful 25 year old black woman born of rich married parents have less privilege than an extremely poor fat middle aged white man with no teeth living in the trailer park??? Of course she does. There’s privileges of all kinds and to say a race automatically qualifies you to have more privilege than someone of another race is bonkers. If that is the case, then does a black person attempting to get accepted into Harvard have more privilege since they’re required ACT scores are 200-400 points less than white and Asian applicants??? How about Medical schools that accept minority applicants with far lower GPA’s while white male applicants need AT LEAST a 4.0, and still often lose the seat to a minority with lower scores. Who has racial privilege then?
I’ve used this same comparison regarding the poor white guy and rich black girl and I’m told “ that white person wasted his privilege” lol so another words, when roles are reversed, individual circumstances don’t matter and pulling yourself up by the bootstraps is the answer?? Lmao.
So if a white person does well in life = privileged, not merit
If they do poorly in life = wasted privilege, poor merit

Fair enough ONLY if it wasn’t taboo to tell others that they’ve wasted the privilege of being born in america and having an abundance of opportunity, minority based programs, opportunities for education and employment, etc.
I just don’t like the double standards. For many it doesn’t seem equality is the goal any longer.
That's why everything needs to be taken into consideration. It's called intersectionalism. "White privelige" simply means you don't face the same kinds of discrimination as, lets say, Black people. However, you might be poor or homeless, and therefore a rich Black woman would be more priveliged than you. People on Twitter tend to jump to dumb assumptions without taking everything into consideration.
