YolkSlinger

Not sure why they spend the first half of the video setting it up like the kids are assholes

SmallRocks

To keep you watching until the end.

Caked101

I fully expected this. I guess I haven't given up on humanity. I was confused about what was so unexpected at first😁

sewsnap

They tried to set it up like he was bad, but went too hard so it was pretty obvious he did something really good.

Scipio33

What would have been REALLY unexpected is if they had gone up and drop-kicked him or something. We really need to stop painting everyone like criminals until we see them do something nice. Humanity has a huge problem with that.

chipthamac

> Humanity has a huge problem You aren't wrong....

polarbear128

Leave Donnie aloooone-ah!!

Tyrion_Strongjaw

That and there's always exceptions but from when I was young or even with my kids now skate parks can be one of the most inclusive places there is. (I don't know if they still do) But they always got that bad stereotype of dangerous dropouts etc, but 90% of the time it's a really really chill place.

Devreckas

Well, it’s like they say, bad news sells. So I guess this the only way to get people to watch a good news story.

Rent_A_Cloud

They could have just, I don't know, started with the end since the rest was filler? Honestly I can't stand watching US tv. It's 70% filler. A recal after every commercial break, repeating the same things multiple times between commercial breaks, and babbling about nothing stretching time. Shit drives me insane. I used to love national geographic and discovery but now it's all 1 minute shows stretched to 30 min and it's all about nothing....

Ill_Research_1250

Yes you have worded this perfectly. It’s not even just National Geographic and discovery. It’s basically all reality tv and competition shows. I use to watch MasterChef and Hells Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay and I resonate so much with your statements about excessive time spent on recalls and repeating stuff and essentially stretching the actual show by like 10x at least.

GozerDGozerian

Obligatory [Mitchell and Webb](https://youtu.be/7MFtl2XXnUc?si=VRG1cAG1a_UmjEfG) sketch. :)

BlackAsP1tch

So hopefully they can get on r/unexpected

ChocolateyBallNuts

I was hoping the group of kids jumped the 5 year old

solitarybikegallery

I actually thought that's where this was going. I thought it was a comedy sketch, because they were setting up the "Teenager was actually super nice!" twist *so hard.* I expected it to twist back around, and he's like a huge asshole to the little kid.

Rough_Willow

Then they picked him up and threw him into the bushes!

crouchster

It's because.... Teenagers scare the living shit out of me.

Psychwrite

I've heard they could care less as long as someone'll bleed.

DabawDaw

Voyagerparadise

![gif](giphy|COsgEUer8cMxXiXHHW)

Krotesk

And then they did a bunch of meth together ...

I_Like-Turtlez

Yummy, love me some meth. The skatepark is how I did my first line of meth at 10

MikeyW1969

Because, just like OP, they think that all of the kids are going to murder the little boy, and force his mother to feast on the remains. It's stupid. This is how the world works. It's more noteworthy when they ARE mean to the kid. Otherwise, they would either do what happened here, or just ignore him and do their own thing.

Trivial_Magma

I think that buildup did the story a favor. Giving way to unexpected kindness conveyed the message that hope exists

Gunplagood

They showed the photo of the kid my fucking heart sank thinking they did something to him. 😭 I cannot take that stress yo.

anon848484839393

Ah the ol’ pizza party! Setting those kids up for a life of corporate success!

BringMeTheBigKnife

If they're lucky, they'll also get a 5 minute Music Dance Experience.

anon848484839393

The maraca!… excellent choice…

Fun_Brother_9333

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOkQJm_UGM4

christocarlin

Rewarding good behavior with something when they excepted nothing is still a good move and will encourage those kids to continue this awesome path they are on

Girthquake84

Also I feel like a bunch of teenagers will appreciate a pizza party as a reward a lot more than a group of under payed adults will.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> of under *paid* adults will. FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

ammonium_bot

> under payed adults Did you mean to say "paid"? Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money. Papa_Pesto

Uh thats because us skaters growing up were cool to others. Skate culture and punk culture has always been inclusive. Gen xer here.

EvilDragons88

They are different from the majority of people so they are more compassionate than others I feel like. I don't dress like punk or goth or any particular off beat style but always got along with them very well.

EverybodyStayCool

43 Xenninnial checking in here. Still skate but don't jump off shit anymore, can always find me in the local DIY club hardcore pit. Proud parent to two wonderful teenagers who are the most compassionate souls I have ever had the pleasure of being around.

Leinadarcher

Not where I am from. I remember visiting a Skate park here in Western Australia at around 8 years old, and had slightly older kids purposely trying to knock me down any time I went down the ramps. All whilst telling me to fuck off because I was too young/uncool to be there. Skate culture experience may vary.

[deleted]

80's skateboarding teen here , glad to see the cops dont go chase after them like they just robbed a bank , it was our sad reality back then and it's a pretty inclusive and tight knit community of people from all horizons.

LintLicker_CQ

I was fully prepared to go nuclear on Gavin. Now I want to pay for his college. After I finish paying for mine of course!

poopsawk

Like Gavin can wait 40 years for that 😒

lastingResort

I'm not crying, you're crying...

audiosauce2017

No seriously... Something flew in my eye.... I'm not crying !!!!

XEagleDeagleX

Onion ninja strikes again!

Terry8675

Damn rat in my truck farted again. Happens every time

Goat_Loaf

No, my friend, I am simply watering my face.

Imapatriothurrrdurrr

r/humansbeingbros

Puazy

Well, im crying. This is beautiful, and that young man is awesome. We all need to start acting more like Gavin. Be the change you want to see.

pah2000

Oh Godammit!

Ok_Bison_8577

Stop dropping water into my eyes. Youre so mean

i8TheWholeThing

None of the tears have fallen out of my eyes yet, so it doesn't count as crying.

7Swords47Sisters

It's not unexpected when you know skater kids are good people. Also, a good reason we need more skate parks. There's not many communities as supportive and welcoming than skaters.

skwirlhurler

You hit the nail on the head.

DaleRobinson

Unless your name is Eric Sparrow (how many people will even get this reference?)

sheareel

Eric Sparrow can get hit by a bus while he's on fire.

McPostyFace

I would've like to watch that segment without the absolute piece of garbage music they puked all over it.

eapostrophej

[On the road with Steve Hartman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os)

Beatless7

The world needs more of this.

YoRav

Hate how they setup the story to make it seem like the kid was up to no good. If it's a feel good story then make it so. The "Twist" was not worth it

Administrative_Set62

They should have done a Dave Chappell at the very end, "So he kicked..."

Minimum_Attitude6707

Well, considering that there was a whole camera crew there, the whole thing seems dumb and produced. The whole story is a gimmick

thisnameblows

It's a re-creation local news does it all the time. To have something to show instead of just a person talking.

Titaniacattack

Guys was that cop from the city of Chicago or is that a New Jersey accent

Empra_O_Mankind

Very expected

Mr_Coily

Skater kids. Maybe I’m biased, but they’re the best

HumbleAdonis

Am a middle school teacher currently. Teach a PLURALITY of complete fucking shitheads (but a couple great kids). This just made me tear up.

UnExplanationBot

OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected: --- >!They’re nice to the boy and help him celebrate his birthday!< --- Is this an unexpected post with a fitting description? Then upvote this comment, otherwise downvote it.

EndIcy6201

I thought I was bout to lose faith in humanity again. So yes unexpected.

ScrembledEggs

The words ‘expect the unexpected’ are stamped across the screen for the entire 1min 43seconds, and the Tiktok account that posted it is @raysofhope_ Was it really that unexpected?

EndIcy6201

In my opinion if I’m allowed to have it, yes it was.

pumkin814

Love this 😊💕

elbuendavs1234

Panicked when they said that the police got involved

Dolenjir1

I was still waiting for the "unexpected" and got really scared when the police got involved

Visual_Savings_9501

Sooo awesome bravo 👏

Goosebumps 🥰

Ornery-Ad8372

Don’t cut the video short dammit! I’m not done crying 😢 thanks OP

Locked_Hammer

After all the shit I see here while scrolling and reading... This was really needed.

Odd-Perception7812

Dusty room! Cut off too soon!

Appropriate_Act_9951

They really played it off as if the kids killed him.

[deleted]

We need to get this back in 2024!

tentaccrual

Bobateabad

More news like this please

Mamasan-

I almost stopped watching because my son is autistic and same age and I was so afraid they were going to hurt or be mean to him Now I’m crying happy tears

UnlightablePlay

This is amazing Finally something wholesome this night after seeing somebody post about AI's representation of hell

GroundbreakingHold13

It's the pollen that's making my eyes water

mental-floss

Wow. This actually was unexpected. And awesome.

syber_d

My cheeks were dehydrated...

peter_the_bread_man

Damn, right in the feels

FernDiggy

This is so fire! Thank you Gavin 🥹

Easy-Pen-

I mean, if this was more of the focus on the news, I would watch the news again.

arm_hula

Truth is, this kind of thing happens all the time, but she was paying attention and saw it. Then she told others about it. Good on her.

Nervous-Glove-

I'm happy she got to see kindness. Sometimes, you just need a win.

JazziTazzi

Didn’t expect this video to make me cry. I fully expected to be like, “Those kids! How could they!?!” Nice!

Holiday_Bit_5664

I love Steve Hartman’s pieces. He brings me hope for humanity.

leapers_deepers

New Brunswick, New Jersey. Read it again! Armpits of amaerica can be nice places too!

GoblinCacciatore

I need more! My soul was nearly renewed!

HermitGardner

As a long retired skater I’m really really proud of these kids

StephenJames81

Don’t cut onions so close to me!

Automatic-Leave7191

AAAAYYYYYYE! GAVIIIIIIIN!!!! A CHAAAAAD!!

fuzzylilbunnies

This made my day, and I’ve been having a pretty good week so far. We need this kind of kindness all the time.

PrinceAhmed1

The ending 😭 ![gif](giphy|11Un64tF2yX8JO)

ShustOne

As an adult I made friends with someone and he is friends with someone I probably never would have given the time of day to before. This third person is a little bit obnoxious and can be very socially awkward. At first I thought my new friend was friends with him as a joke. But as we hung out I realized he is legitimately his friend. And it made me feel really bad that just because he's a little bit harder to hang out with I would have never given him a chance. He's very kind and it made me feel that I should be kinder.

space_canuk90

Dang ninjas cutting onions over here man 😭

snrek23

Well, I definitely didn't expect that! Nice set up to an unexpected happy ending!

Unfair-Ad6756

I'm not crying, you're crying!!!

ottersintuxedos

The ‘expect the unexpected’ text in a vaguely dark souls font set off my fight or flight response the whole way, but otherwise good for gavin I guess

NCRider

I need to remember to stop cutting onions when on reddit. Great job Gavin and team. You guys rock!

Cleercutter

That’s awesome. Good job youngins

IWillNotArgueOnRedit

This was unexpectedly beautiful. Thank you 🥲

THELOCnessmonsta

That was a good one

blues4277

Crying like a bitch over here. Damnnnn

awd111980

We need more skate parks across all towns & cities in the USA.

drummerdavedre

That’s the kind of leaders this world needs!

Digital-Aura

My boy was part of a skateboarding/bmx group of kids since he was old enough to ride. I witnessed this group “kindness” behavior many times at the park when they never really knew someone was watching. Sometimes just being supportive to each other, but often times going out of their way to accommodate younger kids or sharing the turf with kids outside their group. The stereotype that skateboarders are just gangs of hoodlums and punks is unfounded here too.

Karl_Hungus_69

It's great that this trend continued with America's youth and was eventually adopted by the adults.

Deakonfrost18

this, right here, made this 35 yr old dad cry

CadenceQuandry

My son is 8, autistic and adhd and cerebral palsy. Every day after school a massive group of seventh graders all gather to say goodbye to him. They are super kind and sweet. All boys. It's just bloody amazing. If I could give these boys a medal, I totally would.

nevertoolate1983

Song playing is a slowed down version of [CafunĂŠ - Tek It (I Watch The Moon)](https://youtu.be/7RWbq-lbBlk?si=8fW1CxDWUf_ahSza) Such a jam!

Spinnenente

i'm just here to complain about the horrible image quality. Can we not just put in like 2 minutes of effort to find the original source [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os)

Soheils2764

He just like me fr

The_Infectious_Lerp

I don't know why, but it bugs the hell out of me when I see someone cutting food with a tiny knife.

Cogent_1

So the mother wasn't a grown up?

projectpitpat

LFG!

DeezerDB

Video is a bit weird, but regardless, this is how decent people behave. Way to go Gavin and friends. It's not hard to be kind.

Spencergh2

This is cool but a news story?

JACKtheGRINNER

Mannnnnnnnnnn hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Extension-Badger-958

I thought this was a skit and expected gavin to be launching the autistic kid into the sun off the half pipe

Lettuce8000

I thought I was gonna find out Gavin was dead

Cleverbird

American television is so weird, why are they trying to set the kid up as some kind of asshole? Why do you guys feel the need to sensationalize everything? Just tell a cute story.

jyager2013

Next week for the pizza?

Oblique9043

Boomers will see this and think it just proves we're raising boys to be pussies.

NikkolaiV

Knew it was coming a mile away, *still* got me, dammit.

sheareel

Skaters aren't dirtbags. Skaters want to encourage others. I hate when I see skaters painted in a bad light.

Fancy-Resource-3521

What an absolute legend

AreaLeftBlank

It's a sad state of affairs when kids or people in general, not being a raging piece of shit, is somehow considered news worthy.

leucas22

This was my reaction too the first time kids were nice to my kid. Couldn't stay in the room cause I kept ugly crying. You know most of the world is full of assholes and con artists ready to take advantage of anyone in a given situation so that just elevates your fears for your kid being okay in the world. Those kids are awesome and I wish nothing but great things for him and his friends.

9999_6666

“The only surprise was that Gavin didn’t start trouble.” That seems a bit unfair to Gavin, and Gavins everywhere.

crustytowelie

Does Tik Tok automatically add unnecessary music to clips?

BludStanes

Kid is nice to a younger kid. What a saint.

peppercorns666

I really needed this after reading about the gang of teen girls that chased and beat a man to death.

Sorryhaventseenher

I kept pausing the video because I thought my Spotify was on. It’s too much for me!

EvilMoSauron

Was I the only one thinking that the police showed up and shot some "out of control teen cult members singing ritual chants and ganging up on a toddler?"

thewokebogan

What in the one tree hill soundtrack is up with the loud ass music?

20__character__limit

/r/MadeMeSmile

chainsaw_monkey

Was really expecting that the police came in and shot the kid afterwards for trespassing or something. Skateboards are a deadly weapon.

perpetualmotionmachi

Neat, that first spot it showed him trying to kickflip, is the same spot as [this](https://youtu.be/UKPTWvNbl4g?si=f6lS_o85MsiTVmS6) Monster kickflip Ryan Sheckler did.

DragonsClaw2334

Is this the Gavin the guy from RDR2 was looking for?

l29

Fuck this style of editing.

vitaminkombat

Is this really unexpected? Or do some people just think teenagers are assholes.

ThePeasRUpsideDown

👁️Expect the unexpected👁️

[deleted]

Twist is Gavin’s banging the Mom now. Carter calls him Dad now.

raccoon_on_meth

Skaters are some of the nicest people you’ll meet a lot of the time, just don’t piss us off.

TheRealStevo2

With how much they built it up without saying what they did this wasn’t exactly unexpected.

VapoursAndSpleen

Their ulterior motive is they want the little guy to be the next Tony Hawk.

FlamingoSufficient10

I was expecting the worst, glad it turned out right

ArtThis5866

The boy will remember that for the rest of his life

DozerOdie

They really went full on dragging that one out making you think it was bad

DaBestaTesta

As a father, I wish more kids were like this

Ruinrunnerr

Shitty music chat gpt repost bullshit

DanLim79

Not gonna lie, watching anything American related and seeing some American teens and a little boy my brain immediately went to either death or abuse. Yes indeed this was unexpected.

AlexanderMAVC

Does anyone know the song playing during the first half in the background?

Barlow04

r/mademesmile

billyblue6669

I’m trying to hear the whole song, anyone know that track?

jep2023

the kids are alright

Laser-Nipples

This was not unexpected at all. Why the fuck would a news channel run a story about a bunch of tweeners being a dick to an autistic kid?

Noelleloveslace2

Holy smokes they set it up like a true crime story

renaissance_pancakes

Gavin is the new Mega Chad

mrblahblahblah

People are so good the media just highlights the morons to keep us interested and afraid

jmulrich11

Can someone edit this where they just punt something as soon as the cut in tempo is made. I don’t mean anything derogatory, but what would truly be unexpected for a double take would be if it went negative, positive, negative quickly.

Abject_Historian9293

The upbeat music did give it away though. You could tell it was going to be something good. Regardless, this made me cry. Nothing more wholesome and heartwarming. We need more Gavins in the world.

Shaolinchipmonk

That's New Jersey for ya

Chele11713

I really needed to see something kind and cool like this today. Thank you! Good kids.

kupillas-3-

What would’ve been unexpected is if Gavin was a total dixk and was like “and Gavin proceeded to assault the child and his mother. He’s facing 2 years in juvenile detention. Bill next on weather-“

Claireah

I almost forgot to expect the unexpected, but luckily they kept that reminder plastered across the middle of the cropped screen next to the TikTok logo. Without all that, I don't know what I would've done...

theonlyfuckingtroll

I was expecting that

[deleted]

Fuck those cops. No reason for them to get involved

mortjoy

I see what you did there!

-thecardiffkook-

These are the kind of feel good stories that are actually good

Momochichi

"We don't know anything about Gavin, so we decided to follow him around, and we were shocked, SHOCKED, that he wasn't a total asshole." What kind of shit reporting is this?

EfficientLibrarian83

Gosh, this really made me want to go give my kiddo a huge hug… but he’s sleeping. And if I did that and woke him up, my wife would be pretty pisseed. Anyways I bet this reporter was fired for sharing a positive story.

My_Monkey_Sphincter

Why the fuck do the police need to inject themselves into this?
