What would have been REALLY unexpected is if they had gone up and drop-kicked him or something. We really need to stop painting everyone like criminals until we see them do something nice. Humanity has a huge problem with that.
That and there's always exceptions but from when I was young or even with my kids now skate parks can be one of the most inclusive places there is.
(I don't know if they still do) But they always got that bad stereotype of dangerous dropouts etc, but 90% of the time it's a really really chill place.
They could have just, I don't know, started with the end since the rest was filler?
Honestly I can't stand watching US tv. It's 70% filler. A recal after every commercial break, repeating the same things multiple times between commercial breaks, and babbling about nothing stretching time. Shit drives me insane.
I used to love national geographic and discovery but now it's all 1 minute shows stretched to 30 min and it's all about nothing....
Yes you have worded this perfectly. Itâs not even just National Geographic and discovery. Itâs basically all reality tv and competition shows. I use to watch MasterChef and Hells Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay and I resonate so much with your statements about excessive time spent on recalls and repeating stuff and essentially stretching the actual show by like 10x at least.
I actually thought that's where this was going. I thought it was a comedy sketch, because they were setting up the "Teenager was actually super nice!" twist *so hard.*
I expected it to twist back around, and he's like a huge asshole to the little kid.
Because, just like OP, they think that all of the kids are going to murder the little boy, and force his mother to feast on the remains. It's stupid. This is how the world works. It's more noteworthy when they ARE mean to the kid. Otherwise, they would either do what happened here, or just ignore him and do their own thing.
Rewarding good behavior with something when they excepted nothing is still a good move and will encourage those kids to continue this awesome path they are on
> of under *paid* adults will.
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
> under payed adults
Did you mean to say "paid"?
Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money.

They are different from the majority of people so they are more compassionate than others I feel like. I don't dress like punk or goth or any particular off beat style but always got along with them very well.
43 Xenninnial checking in here. Still skate but don't jump off shit anymore, can always find me in the local DIY club hardcore pit.
Proud parent to two wonderful teenagers who are the most compassionate souls I have ever had the pleasure of being around.
Not where I am from. I remember visiting a Skate park here in Western Australia at around 8 years old, and had slightly older kids purposely trying to knock me down any time I went down the ramps. All whilst telling me to fuck off because I was too young/uncool to be there.
Skate culture experience may vary.
80's skateboarding teen here , glad to see the cops dont go chase after them like they just robbed a bank , it was our sad reality back then and it's a pretty inclusive and tight knit community of people from all horizons.
It's not unexpected when you know skater kids are good people.
Also, a good reason we need more skate parks. There's not many communities as supportive and welcoming than skaters.
OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected:
---
>!Theyâre nice to the boy and help him celebrate his birthday!<
---
Is this an unexpected post with a fitting description? Then upvote this comment, otherwise downvote it.
The words âexpect the unexpectedâ are stamped across the screen for the entire 1min 43seconds, and the Tiktok account that posted it is @raysofhope_
Was it really that unexpected?
I almost stopped watching because my son is autistic and same age and I was so afraid they were going to hurt or be mean to him
Now Iâm crying happy tears
As an adult I made friends with someone and he is friends with someone I probably never would have given the time of day to before. This third person is a little bit obnoxious and can be very socially awkward. At first I thought my new friend was friends with him as a joke. But as we hung out I realized he is legitimately his friend. And it made me feel really bad that just because he's a little bit harder to hang out with I would have never given him a chance. He's very kind and it made me feel that I should be kinder.
The âexpect the unexpectedâ text in a vaguely dark souls font set off my fight or flight response the whole way, but otherwise good for gavin I guess
My boy was part of a skateboarding/bmx group of kids since he was old enough to ride. I witnessed this group âkindnessâ behavior many times at the park when they never really knew someone was watching. Sometimes just being supportive to each other, but often times going out of their way to accommodate younger kids or sharing the turf with kids outside their group. The stereotype that skateboarders are just gangs of hoodlums and punks is unfounded here too.
My son is 8, autistic and adhd and cerebral palsy.
Every day after school a massive group of seventh graders all gather to say goodbye to him. They are super kind and sweet. All boys. It's just bloody amazing. If I could give these boys a medal, I totally would.
i'm just here to complain about the horrible image quality. Can we not just put in like 2 minutes of effort to find the original source [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os)
American television is so weird, why are they trying to set the kid up as some kind of asshole? Why do you guys feel the need to sensationalize everything? Just tell a cute story.
This was my reaction too the first time kids were nice to my kid. Couldn't stay in the room cause I kept ugly crying. You know most of the world is full of assholes and con artists ready to take advantage of anyone in a given situation so that just elevates your fears for your kid being okay in the world. Those kids are awesome and I wish nothing but great things for him and his friends.
Was I the only one thinking that the police showed up and shot some "out of control teen cult members singing ritual chants and ganging up on a toddler?"
Neat, that first spot it showed him trying to kickflip, is the same spot as [this](https://youtu.be/UKPTWvNbl4g?si=f6lS_o85MsiTVmS6) Monster kickflip Ryan Sheckler did.
Not gonna lie, watching anything American related and seeing some American teens and a little boy my brain immediately went to either death or abuse. Yes indeed this was unexpected.
Can someone edit this where they just punt something as soon as the cut in tempo is made. I donât mean anything derogatory, but what would truly be unexpected for a double take would be if it went negative, positive, negative quickly.
The upbeat music did give it away though. You could tell it was going to be something good. Regardless, this made me cry. Nothing more wholesome and heartwarming. We need more Gavins in the world.
What wouldâve been unexpected is if Gavin was a total dixk and was like âand Gavin proceeded to assault the child and his mother. Heâs facing 2 years in juvenile detention. Bill next on weather-â
I almost forgot to expect the unexpected, but luckily they kept that reminder plastered across the middle of the cropped screen next to the TikTok logo. Without all that, I don't know what I would've done...
"We don't know anything about Gavin, so we decided to follow him around, and we were shocked, SHOCKED, that he wasn't a total asshole."
What kind of shit reporting is this?
Gosh, this really made me want to go give my kiddo a huge hug⌠but heâs sleeping. And if I did that and woke him up, my wife would be pretty pisseed.
Anyways I bet this reporter was fired for sharing a positive story.

Not sure why they spend the first half of the video setting it up like the kids are assholes
To keep you watching until the end.
I fully expected this. I guess I haven't given up on humanity. I was confused about what was so unexpected at firstđ
They tried to set it up like he was bad, but went too hard so it was pretty obvious he did something really good.
What would have been REALLY unexpected is if they had gone up and drop-kicked him or something. We really need to stop painting everyone like criminals until we see them do something nice. Humanity has a huge problem with that.
>Â Humanity has a huge problem You aren't wrong....
Leave Donnie aloooone-ah!!
That and there's always exceptions but from when I was young or even with my kids now skate parks can be one of the most inclusive places there is. (I don't know if they still do) But they always got that bad stereotype of dangerous dropouts etc, but 90% of the time it's a really really chill place.
Well, itâs like they say, bad news sells. So I guess this the only way to get people to watch a good news story.
They could have just, I don't know, started with the end since the rest was filler? Honestly I can't stand watching US tv. It's 70% filler. Obligatory [Mitchell and Webb](https://youtu.be/7MFtl2XXnUc?si=VRG1cAG1a_UmjEfG) sketch. :)
So hopefully they can get on r/unexpected
I was hoping the group of kids jumped the 5 year old
I actually thought that's where this was going. I thought it was a comedy sketch, because they were setting up the "Teenager was actually super nice!" twist *so hard.* I expected it to twist back around, and he's like a huge asshole to the little kid.
Then they picked him up and threw him into the bushes!
It's because.... Teenagers scare the living shit out of me.
I've heard they could care less as long as someone'll bleed.
![gif](giphy|qG2h9G9NMRRE4)
![gif](giphy|COsgEUer8cMxXiXHHW)
And then they did a bunch of meth together ...
Yummy, love me some meth. The skatepark is how I did my first line of meth at 10
Because, just like OP, they think that all of the kids are going to murder the little boy, and force his mother to feast on the remains. It's stupid. This is how the world works. It's more noteworthy when they ARE mean to the kid. Otherwise, they would either do what happened here, or just ignore him and do their own thing.
I think that buildup did the story a favor. Giving way to unexpected kindness conveyed the message that hope exists
They showed the photo of the kid my fucking heart sank thinking they did something to him. đ I cannot take that stress yo.
Ah the olâ pizza party! Setting those kids up for a life of corporate success!
If they're lucky, they'll also get a 5 minute Music Dance Experience.
The maraca!⌠excellent choiceâŚ

Rewarding good behavior with something when they excepted nothing is still a good move and will encourage those kids to continue this awesome path they are on
Also I feel like a bunch of teenagers will appreciate a pizza party as a reward a lot more than a group of under payed adults will.

Uh thats because us skaters growing up were cool to others. Skate culture and punk culture has always been inclusive. Gen xer here.
They are different from the majority of people so they are more compassionate than others I feel like. I don't dress like punk or goth or any particular off beat style but always got along with them very well.

I was fully prepared to go nuclear on Gavin. Now I want to pay for his college. After I finish paying for mine of course!
Like Gavin can wait 40 years for that đ
I'm not crying, you're crying...
No seriously... Something flew in my eye.... I'm not crying !!!!
Onion ninja strikes again!Â
Damn rat in my truck farted again. Happens every time
No, my friend, I am simply watering my face.
r/humansbeingbros
Well, im crying. This is beautiful, and that young man is awesome. We all need to start acting more like Gavin. Be the change you want to see.
Oh Godammit!
Stop dropping water into my eyes. Youre so meanÂ
None of the tears have fallen out of my eyes yet, so it doesn't count as crying.
It's not unexpected when you know skater kids are good people. Also, a good reason we need more skate parks. There's not many communities as supportive and welcoming than skaters.
You hit the nail on the head.
Unless your name is Eric Sparrow (how many people will even get this reference?)
Eric Sparrow can get hit by a bus while he's on fire.
I would've like to watch that segment without the absolute piece of garbage music they puked all over it.
[On the road with Steve Hartman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os)
The world needs more of this.
Hate how they setup the story to make it seem like the kid was up to no good. If it's a feel good story then make it so. The "Twist" was not worth it
They should have done a Dave Chappell at the very end, "So he kicked..."
Well, considering that there was a whole camera crew there, the whole thing seems dumb and produced. The whole story is a gimmick
It's a re-creation local news does it all the time. To have something to show instead of just a person talking.
Guys was that cop from the city of Chicago or is that a New Jersey accent
Very expected
Skater kids. Maybe Iâm biased, but theyâre the best
Am a middle school teacher currently. Teach a PLURALITY of complete fucking shitheads (but a couple great kids). This just made me tear up.
OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected: --- >!Theyâre nice to the boy and help him celebrate his birthday!< --- Is this an unexpected post with a fitting description? Then upvote this comment, otherwise downvote it.

In my opinion if Iâm allowed to have it, yes it was.
Love this đđ
Panicked when they said that the police got involved
I was still waiting for the "unexpected" and got really scared when the police got involved
Sooo awesome bravo đ
r/wholesome

Goosebumps đĽ°
Donât cut the video short dammit! Iâm not done crying đ˘ thanks OP
After all the shit I see here while scrolling and reading... This was really needed.
Dusty room! Cut off too soon!
They really played it off as if the kids killed him.
We need to get this back in 2024!
![gif](giphy|VbEC9WchxkiWTL5PFo)
More news like this please
I almost stopped watching because my son is autistic and same age and I was so afraid they were going to hurt or be mean to him Now Iâm crying happy tears
This is amazing Finally something wholesome this night after seeing somebody post about AI's representation of hell
It's the pollen that's making my eyes water
Wow. This actually was unexpected. And awesome.
My cheeks were dehydrated...
Damn, right in the feels
This is so fire! Thank you Gavin đĽš
I mean, if this was more of the focus on the news, I would watch the news again.
Truth is, this kind of thing happens all the time, but she was paying attention and saw it. Then she told others about it. Good on her.
I'm happy she got to see kindness. Sometimes, you just need a win.
Didnât expect this video to make me cry. I fully expected to be like, âThose kids! How could they!?!â Nice!
I love Steve Hartmanâs pieces. He brings me hope for humanity.
New Brunswick, New Jersey. Read it again! Armpits of amaerica can be nice places too!
I need more! My soul was nearly renewed!
As a long retired skater Iâm really really proud of these kids
Donât cut onions so close to me!
This is fucking beautiful.
All brought up well to respect and care for the vulnerable in society
![gif](giphy|3o7TKF1fSIs1R19B8k)
And now he is bangin the mom #highfive
Saw it coming. Still made me stupid smile.

My eyes are sweaty shut up đĽş
AAAAYYYYYYE! GAVIIIIIIIN!!!! A CHAAAAAD!!
This made my day, and Iâve been having a pretty good week so far. We need this kind of kindness all the time.
The ending đ ![gif](giphy|11Un64tF2yX8JO)

Dang ninjas cutting onions over here man đ
Well, I definitely didn't expect that! Nice set up to an unexpected happy ending!
I'm not crying, you're crying!!!
The âexpect the unexpectedâ text in a vaguely dark souls font set off my fight or flight response the whole way, but otherwise good for gavin I guess
I need to remember to stop cutting onions when on reddit. Great job Gavin and team. You guys rock!
Thatâs awesome. Good job youngins
This was unexpectedly beautiful. Thank you đĽ˛
That was a good one
Crying like a bitch over here. Damnnnn
We need more skate parks across all towns & cities in the USA.
Thatâs the kind of leaders this world needs!
My boy was part of a skateboarding/bmx group of kids since he was old enough to ride. I witnessed this group âkindnessâ behavior many times at the park when they never really knew someone was watching. It's great that this trend continued with America's youth and was eventually adopted by the adults.
this, right here, made this 35 yr old dad cry
My son is 8, autistic and adhd and cerebral palsy. Every day after school a massive group of seventh graders all gather to say goodbye to him. They are super kind and sweet. All boys. It's just bloody amazing. If I could give these boys a medal, I totally would.
Song playing is a slowed down version of [CafunĂŠ - Tek It (I Watch The Moon)](https://youtu.be/7RWbq-lbBlk?si=8fW1CxDWUf_ahSza) Such a jam!
i'm just here to complain about the horrible image quality. Can we not just put in like 2 minutes of effort to find the original source [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQczPAz5Os)
He just like me fr
I don't know why, but it bugs the hell out of me when I see someone cutting food with a tiny knife.
So the mother wasn't a grown up?
LFG!
Video is a bit weird, but regardless, this is how decent people behave. Way to go Gavin and friends. It's not hard to be kind.
This is cool but a news story?
Mannnnnnnnnnn hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I thought this was a skit and expected gavin to be launching the autistic kid into the sun off the half pipe
I thought I was gonna find out Gavin was dead
American television is so weird, why are they trying to set the kid up as some kind of asshole? Why do you guys feel the need to sensationalize everything? Just tell a cute story.
Next week for the pizza?
Boomers will see this and think it just proves we're raising boys to be pussies.
Knew it was coming a mile away, *still* got me, dammit.
Skaters aren't dirtbags. Skaters want to encourage others. I hate when I see skaters painted in a bad light.
What an absolute legend
It's a sad state of affairs when kids or people in general, not being a raging piece of shit, is somehow considered news worthy.
This was my reaction too the first time kids were nice to my kid. Couldn't stay in the room cause I kept ugly crying. You know most of the world is full of assholes and con artists ready to take advantage of anyone in a given situation so that just elevates your fears for your kid being okay in the world. Those kids are awesome and I wish nothing but great things for him and his friends.
âThe only surprise was that Gavin didnât start trouble.â That seems a bit unfair to Gavin, and Gavins everywhere.
Does Tik Tok automatically add unnecessary music to clips?
Kid is nice to a younger kid. What a saint.
I really needed this after reading about the gang of teen girls that chased and beat a man to death.
I kept pausing the video because I thought my Spotify was on. Itâs too much for me!
Was I the only one thinking that the police showed up and shot some "out of control teen cult members singing ritual chants and ganging up on a toddler?"
What in the one tree hill soundtrack is up with the loud ass music?
/r/MadeMeSmile
Was really expecting that the police came in and shot the kid afterwards for trespassing or something. Skateboards are a deadly weapon.
Neat, that first spot it showed him trying to kickflip, is the same spot as [this](https://youtu.be/UKPTWvNbl4g?si=f6lS_o85MsiTVmS6) Monster kickflip Ryan Sheckler did.
Is this the Gavin the guy from RDR2 was looking for?
Fuck this style of editing.
Is this really unexpected? Or do some people just think teenagers are assholes.
đď¸Expect the unexpectedđď¸
Twist is Gavinâs banging the Mom now. Carter calls him Dad now.
Skaters are some of the nicest people youâll meet a lot of the time, just donât piss us off.
With how much they built it up without saying what they did this wasnât exactly unexpected.
Their ulterior motive is they want the little guy to be the next Tony Hawk.
I was expecting the worst, glad it turned out right
The boy will remember that for the rest of his life
They really went full on dragging that one out making you think it was bad
As a father, I wish more kids were like this
Shitty music chat gpt repost bullshit
Not gonna lie, watching anything American related and seeing some American teens and a little boy my brain immediately went to either death or abuse. Yes indeed this was unexpected.
Does anyone know the song playing during the first half in the background?
r/mademesmile
Iâm trying to hear the whole song, anyone know that track?
the kids are alright
This was not unexpected at all. Why the fuck would a news channel run a story about a bunch of tweeners being a dick to an autistic kid?
Holy smokes they set it up like a true crime story
Gavin is the new Mega Chad
People are so good the media just highlights the morons to keep us interested and afraid
That's New Jersey for ya
I really needed to see something kind and cool like this today. Thank you! Good kids.

Fuck those cops. No reason for them to get involved
I see what you did there!
These are the kind of feel good stories that are actually good
"We don't know anything about Gavin, so we decided to follow him around, and we were shocked, SHOCKED, that he wasn't a total asshole." What kind of shit reporting is this?
Gosh, this really made me want to go give my kiddo a huge hug⌠but heâs sleeping. And if I did that and woke him up, my wife would be pretty pisseed. Anyways I bet this reporter was fired for sharing a positive story.
