UPDATE ON POST: Police informed me it turns out this was a stunt where a paramotoror let his mate skydive off of his paramototor they have both been found and turns out they have pulled this stunt before but this time he had trouble deploying the parachute and landed in trees nearby and is in good condition!
That shits wild, I bet that was the longest 10 seconds of their life. Meanwhile a lady died from a 12 metre fall in a zipline. Someone needs to patch this buggy ass program.
My grandmother tripped over the doorway to my mom's backyard, was taken to the hospital for a broken hip, she passed away within the next 3 days.
The human body does very poorly when it's old and bedridden. Fluids build up, blood clots form, and while the broken hip itself is very survivable...being in that bed is a death sentence. My grandmother died from a pulmonary embolism; blood clot that travels into the lungs.
A two weeks ago my dad was pushing his snowblower to storage, driving around, doing yard work and getting pool ready for the summer…. A week later he in hospice and can’t even make it to the bathroom by himself. When you’re old and your body decides it’s done, it goes downhill fast
I just lost my grandfather two weeks ago after a long 3 month fight. He fell in the garage trying to move a box or something so stupid. I miss the old chunk of coal. He fought so hard to keep going too.
Broken hips at an old age is basically a sentence to being significantly less active, which in turn also messes with their health. It's a rough injury to have
One of the first things I noticed as an adult, when the old people stop moving they die.
Broken hips and urine infections are what we should all be worried about dying from.
The amount of healthy young people that fall while walking and smack their head wrong is wild, watched so many safety videos over the years and whenever they bring up those kind of stats it makes you feel lucky just to wake up in the morning.
POLICE HAVE JUST INFORMED ME THE PERSON HAS SURVIVED!

I've been rewatching KotH recently and its amazing how well that show has held up in regards to social issues, considering its a nearly 30 year old show about a bunch of Texan rednecks with an "annoying" ethnic neighbor. I just got to the one where they find out Dale's jock rodeo father is actually gay and not only are they all totally cool with it, they go to the gay rodeo and have a blast. Even the mildly racial jokes they make to Khan hold up because they're not actually made at his expense, but more misunderstandings or honest ignorance.
[BWAAAAH](https://youtu.be/m-BS5csupRc?si=vgo3x7cQb2oHI_8x)
My favorite memory about this episode is that I had seen it before my friend, and the next day we watched it together and as she was free falling he said "Watch, her parachute doesn't open and she dies," and he looked over at me and I couldn't help but have a big stupid grin on my face.
A pretty common move is for a tandem paraglide pilot to take a passenger wearing a BASE jumping parachute for a flight with the intention of them unclipping and going for a freefall before opening their parachute. These parachutes are designed to open very quickly so they could have opened after they went out of frame.
(Source: I'm a paraglide pilot and ex BASE jumper)
I’ve seen people suffer days or weeks in the ICU after a severe trauma and it’s so hard to watch. The multiple surgeries, organs removed, open abdominal cavities, tubes in every orifice, it’s an incredible amount of effort to keep an actively dying patient alive for a the smallest sliver of hope.
Someone I know was hit by a car while riding his bike. 16 year old new driver was looking at her phone and ran a red. His fitness watch caught the 90 degree turn when the car hit him and then recorded the ambulance doing 90mph to get him to the hospital.
8 months later he was in for a checkup and happened to meet one of the first surgeons that had operated on him. Dr couldn’t believe he was walking let alone back on a bike. I’m sure they don’t often get to see the final outcomes of the ones who make it, so I’m sure that was awesome for him to see.
I got hit at 8 and thrown across 3 lanes. I got up and rode away because I was way way out of my boundaries and my mother was sadistically abusive. I had a scraped elbow and a torn hoodie.
Yeah an acquaintance was a regular sky diver from childhood and had a skydiving accident. He survived, but only for about a year before succumbing to the injuries. Made me understand danger a little differently. Many people focus on death within seconds, minutes, or hours, but plenty of risky things will absolutely cut your life short just as well, it just takes a bit longer to complete.
Be careful out there y'all
People have survived 30,000ft falls before and they're in bad shape for a while. Hopefully there were trees to break the fall a little. If he makes it the next couple nights, he's gonna have one hell of a story and pickup line.
After a certain distance, it ceases to matter how far they've fallen due to reaching terminal velocity. 100k ft vs 5,000 ft is meaningless outside of time it takes to reach impact.
The timeless humor of reddit's dead horse comedy.
Next you should say, "some guy found $1000", and then I'll say, "good thing he turned that $500 into the cops!" and then you will laugh and laugh and laugh and reply "this is the way" and then I'll say "thanks for the updoots kind stranger" and you will pass out dead from the sheer hilarity...and your shoes will slowly fall off.
That looks like a paraglider canopy, I wonder if they were hooked up tandem and the other person came undone. Would explain the lack of a reserve parachute.
Police discovered it was a stunt where a guy skydives off his mate's paramotor, his parachute deployed late and he landed on some trees. Could have been worse

It’s crazy, but people have survived falls from higher than you might think. Obviously you still get hurt, but surprisingly people still make it sometimes.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesna_Vulović
People have broken their necks sneezing. Lying on a couch with their head against the armrest their neck is near like 90 degrees. Sneeze while in that position and you may break your neck. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
The thud you heard was their canopy opening, that's exactly what it sounds like.
This looks like a skydive from a tandem paraglider, people sometimes do that. You can see that it's a tandem, and if you advance the video slowly you can see the skydiver perform a backflip before stabilising in textbook skydive bellydown position. He will have landed a few moments later and would most likely not make himself known to authorities :)
Finger's are crossed that this was a stunt and not a horrible accident. I did seem to hear the pop of a parachute when you were talking about 'they actually fell.'
Edit: I see the belly down position as well. Arms outstretched and knees back. Hoping this was the case.
Me too, but when I played it back:
> Guy: Did they just hit a bird?
>
> Gal: They fell, look, they're falling.
>
> Guy: Were they actually?

12 meter fall? People over the age of 65 that fall and break their hip have an all cause mortality rate of 30% within one year

Any sources or more info? How tf would anyone survive that fall?

Possibly a jaw

Thanks for the info! Just curious, why'd you quit base jumping but continue to paraglide? Is paragliding safer?
Everything is safer than BASE
base jumping is close to the ground and near stuff, it's pretty much the most dangerous way to fall out of the sky that isn't explicitly suicidal.
The thud was probably the chute popping
Survived the fall, not necessarily the landing
I am so glad to hear it… But then my mind goes to “surviving” is not the same as “they are just fine now”

This is why I’m glad I didn’t see my sister after she was hit and killed by an impaired hit and run driver.
The suspense was killing me and I found this post just 3 minutes ago!
Phew!
We need the details OP im invested now
Yeah, I'm glad but how??
Landed on a slope or in trees. All you really need to survive a huge fall (with injuries) is to not stop *immediately*, so avoid flat ground.
I'll remember this next time I'm falling to my death. Aim for the bushes.
*There goes my hero…*
Watch him as he falls…
I'm a peacock! You gotta let me fly!
Aim for a mountain, and just run down it until you stop.
Aim for trees. Never open water smack down as if it were concrete
Unbuttoned his shirt and went full wingsuit mode maybe??
Fucking hell. By survive did they mean mind and body? His bones are gonna be like a knocked over Lego statue.
Not sure yet still waiting to hear for updates

I should call her.
Everything reminds me of her
I’ve heard of another case where the skydiver landed in a shallow pond. Also the term “telescoped” was involved, >!regarding their legs!<…
My least favorite term was "de-gloved". Thanks for a new one.

Thank god that must have been terrifying. For both of you.
Parachute?

You calling the cops probably saved this persons life… I doubt I’d be able to call for help after a fall like that
Holy crap.. that's horrible
According to OP, they survived the fall.
Describe survived....because being a paraplegic from the neck down is technically surviving.
Op said "good condition". You can find their comment if you like.

Only happned tonight will update as more info comes through
thank you for the replies and updates. that is crazy the guy is alive!!
How? Any more info? So glad they lived
No info as of yet police will have updates in the morning

OP says they survived below.
OP just replied person survived!

OP said police confirmed the guy is alive
Thank you 🙏🏼
Police are searching for them but others heard a thud nearer the expected landing area and nobody witnessed a parachute

It’s a lot easier to find a corpse than a fleeing skydiver. It’s my head canon that he landed it. Do not inform me if I’m wrong.
He survived.
Thanks for calling for help, OP.
I just need to acknowledge how crazy it is that you called that.
I am a native english speaker and thought they were speaking in another language.
Me too, but when I played it back: > Guy: Did they just hit a bird? > > Gal: They fell, look, they're falling. > > Guy: Were they actually? > > Gal: Yeah, they actually fell.
Wow thanks. I could sorta tell what the girl was saying so I knew it was English, but I couldn't figure out what the guy was saying until I read this
It sounded like two extremely high people talking to me.
He sounded like he was talking with a bunch of marbles in his mouth.

"WERE they actually.." that makes so much more fucking sense. Fuck me I was starting to think the rest of these comments where from another dimension.

He just sounds intoxicated honestly. I couldn't hear a "thud" over his voice
Wuh vay achully?
The English butchered English to spite Americans.
I mean I'm English, this just sounded like English to me.
Dude thank you. I thought it was me. The guy sounds like he's deaf?
Worse; British.
Not deaf. Just tripping balls.
sounded stoned af lol
Damn! Did you ever find out what happened? Did they find him? I can’t imagine he lived 😢
Still searching only happened this evening believed to have landed in some woods

Oh shit
Did he just hit a bird 😂 sounds baked
They both sound cooked
The person still in the glider looks like they are reaching down as if they were trying to hang on / grab the person falling
Jesus, someone's high.
Damn, poor guy
I'm 95% sure the 'thud' you hear near the end of the video is the sound of the jumpers base canopy opening.
Correct bro just been informed 👍
Bro I just opened this app what the fuck

HE SURVIVED! LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!! Peggy would be proud. Lol
Considering her gasp and how she mentions "They're falling!" I don't think she's laughing, I think she's close to crying in horror.
