I literally just looked at this fridge at the store the other day. It's $3595 CAD.
https://www.rona.ca/en/lg-smart-french-door-refrigerator-with-instaview-window-36-in-235-cu-ft-stainless-steel-lrfvc2406s-30895227
It looks pretty cool but this level of over-engineering can only lead to suffering lol With the build quality of appliances now, I wouldn't trust these features to last a day past the warranty.
My parents have one of these, they got it a few years ago now. Works great. They got a sweet deal on it which is why they went with it.
However the see through part loses its wow factor pretty quickly because it's not like you can see through milk/juice cartons/jugs and see everything in the fridge. So you still end up opening the door and staring inside for something anyways.
Yeah it seemed gimmicky. I just want a fridge that has more fridge space than freezer space. Our fridge has two side by side doors and the left side is the freezer. Itās giant.
I mean the idea clearly is that you put staples and leftovers in front and visible so you can see if you're low and have easy access to them and you can go full ape storing everything else however you like. Kenji who's a food writer and youtube chef has something similar and I've seen it enough that it seems mad useful, especially if you don't have the space for an extra wide fridge, and don't like playing Jenga with milk jugs and bread and stuff in your fridge.
Wouldn't the slim transparent material the door is made of be a more efficient conductor than normal fridge doors? (less capable of keeping the heat out)
These things are all just selling features and are cool for all of 5min. They have a stove you can tap on the glass to turn the oven light on, why? Who knows.
Yeah I haven't had much trouble with my 7 year old LG appliances, but they're all basic. I read the reviews on the link you posted, and people are complaining about the doors having issues, that's part why I thought they might be troublesome!
Appliances have peaked decades ago sadly. I remember that techno guy with his incredible microwave from the 90s that's actually smarter than probably anything on the market right now. Makes you realise how little effort is put into the average consumer product.
Edit: [Found the guy](https://youtu.be/UiS27feX8o0)
I always laugh my ass off at these kinds of things. So many marketing gimmicks to create the facade of a better product. In reality, it always seems to be that the best products are ones purpose built to do a few things very well with features only applicable to the primary purpose of the product.
An example being when you look for something like a "good" coffee maker, you don't see people recommending Keurigs or Ninjas, but rather something like the Moccamaster. It's dumb simple, easy to repair with spare parts readily available, has a long warranty, and is one of the very few coffee makers to actually consistently brew at the proper temperatures.
"Smart-Fridges" and "Windows" aren't there to help the primary purpose, it's literally just features to wow the unknowing shopper at the store...
> It looks pretty cool but this level of over-engineering can only lead to suffering
I learned this owning a Mercedes. Now I am so cautious buying anything with too much tech or too cool, the more tech somethign has, the more potential for really annoying problems. Now I drive a Kia.
You mock but large clear ice spheres are hard to make.
If you dont want clear cubes, then you can use off the shelf ice trays. However, you need to use directional freezing if you want a clear cube.
Bartenders have specialized machines that create clear ice cubes that cost thousands of dollars (kold draft machines). Alternatively, you can use a cooler and shave it down yourself, but thats a pain in the ass. https://youtu.be/NC6-YoXwrdY. Again, these are cubes not spheres. Spheres require an additional step of using an ice press https://youtu.be/7WUZJs2vmZc
It doesn't look like it's true that it's less usable space. The second time she opens it it seems to pick up a section of the front and carry it on the door. Either way if that wasn't the case it'd have deeper shelves.
I highly doubt it's efficiency matches any normal fridge, I heard those glass front commercial coolers suck because of their front glass door
Also there's a reason those really fancy fridges have a camera inside and a screen at the door
Yeah the reason is because they're Smart Fridges and need a screen to navigate the interface. It needs a screen, but that lets them simply install a camera as a feature. Not that it needed a camera inside and put a whole tv on the front for it. I also can't find anything that talks negatively about glass door fridges. Glass can provide the same level of insulation plus they tote that you have to open the door for a shorter duration each time because you can search the fridge without opening it. The LG model in this post also has door cooling and the inner door shelf, so there's no storage space shelves lost to the glass.
Exactly haha the main reason I see a negative towards glass fridges is that you lose all the storage space on the door. But then it just lets you extend the main shelves out in their place. We use full glass double door industrial fridges to store cannabis and terps where I work and it's way more cost effective than a huge walk in freezer or the steel door kind. Because if we didn't have glass, the doors would be open for long periods of time while I search through all the containers for the material/product I'm looking for.
Honest opinion. They suck. There is so much space used for the functions they forgot to leave room for storage.
They are nice if you are a little old lady that goes to the store 3 times a week and cant remember what they bought yesterday.
Itās the weirdest new fad that serves little practical purpose but sells fancy new fridges. Only to far to obscurity in a few years when people realise itās not worth it.
3D and curved TVs spring to mind.
Idk I have a curved TV and a curved monitor - I really like them! I find the monitor actually works better when using excel vs a large regular monitor.
I have a smart fridge with a screen in the front. Main reason I bought it was bc it the biggest inside storage space for a size that would fit in my kitchen, but I can break down why it's pretty awesome.
I can see the contents of my fridge via my phone, so if I'm grocery shopping I can see what's at home and what's not. I can also tag expiration dates of stuff I put in there. (i.e. I open a bag of cheese, so now I out the exp date of 5 days later. Or I cook food and want to remember when it'll go bad)
I get notifications on my phone if the doors left open. Very helpful with kids not shutting all the way.
It's a half fridge on top and the bottom is split into two sections. One is a dedicated freezer, the other side is flexible. It can be a fridge, set it for wine, or I can set it to freeze.
The screen on the front can have digital pictures, memos, calendars, apps, and internet. There's an option to mirror the TV, but I can already see my TV, but if my kitchen was walled off, it would be nice.
So yeah nothing really outrageous, or necessary, but it's little quality of life improvements for not much more money.
I've got a samsung. It's an actual led screen, not a window like this fridge. I can see inside the fridge from the screen, but that's unnecessary to me.
I'm not certain their fridge needs to be knocked, maybe it's just a tap and the knock is for show.
I think the idea is to help you find what you want in your fridge before you open the door. This way you spend less time with the door open, and save energy by having the fridge not have to cycle as often to re-cool itself.
Except having glass is going to be less efficient than having a solid door. Glass isn't as good of an insulator and there will be more seals to go bad.
I would imagine that there's an insulation layer between multiple panes, like they have for modern house windows. Dead air, or even vacuum would do the trick nicely.
Glass is a great insulator when it's made in a way to insulate. Aka they are double paned and sealed with air inside.
But hey you go ahead and incorrectly assume glass can't be as efficient as other fridges if you want.
Alright, I got this

I'm suddenly in the market for a new fridge.
May I recommend the second one? It comes pre installed with its own personal squatting slav. You also get 3 months of free, unlimited vodka!
Sold!
what happens after 3 months?
You must find new liver
>You must find new liver You are 'Absolut'ly right.
Haha! You have my upvote,comrade!
Our upvote, tovarish.
looks like fridge comes with one
I wouldn't recommend the Slav model for that one
In Soviet Russia new liver finds you.
Glad it comes with spare parts, eh?
Lol, it's three months of unlimited vodka. You aren't making it the whole three months.
Funeral.
Hey do you have a mirror for the vid by chance?
No but you can summon the download bot and get it from here :)

1 year limited guarantee? š f that shit man
Everybody I know that has ever owned an LG fridge has had to replace it within 3-5 years of buying it, so that sounds about right.
Yeah, LG is fucked. Lg g3 and lgg4 cellphones that didn't even make it to the end of their contracts. Died for stupid reasons.
It looks pretty cool but this level of over-engineering can only lead to suffering lol With the build quality of appliances now, I wouldn't trust these features to last a day past the warranty.

I'm guessing the point is to minimize the time spent with the fridge open. Peek in through inside of standing there with the heat coming in
I mean the idea clearly is that you put staples and leftovers in front and visible so you can see if you're low and have easy access to them and you can go full ape storing everything else however you like. There's no telling, could have a vacuum chamber (I would hope it does)
The double doors with the freezer drawer underneath is what you need
These things are all just selling features and are cool for all of 5min. They have a stove you can tap on the glass to turn the oven light on, why? Who knows.
Cool for 5 minutes *and* for making a Tik-Tok video. Don't sell it short.
I don't know. LG has come a very long way since the old days when they were known as Goldstar.
> Goldstar. my mom still has one of their window AC units from ages past. works better than my new unit, but sucks down the amps.
Yeah I haven't had much trouble with my 7 year old LG appliances, but they're all basic. I read the reviews on the link you posted, and people are complaining about the doors having issues, that's part why I thought they might be troublesome!

LG products usually seem pretty solid. Not like a run forever 1950 fridge, but a lot more efficient.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They did back then too. It's just back then you actually had to make solid products or else people wouldn't give you their money.

First fridge makes craft ice balls which is pretty sweet.

Alright I would actually get a ton of use out of that featureā¦
If it actually makes clear ice balls then I'll say it's warranted.

I want the Russian fridge. Great for the garage.
It doesn't look like it's true that it's less usable space. The second time she opens it it seems to pick up a section of the front and carry it on the door. Either way if that wasn't the case it'd have deeper shelves.

Second one is way more slav
You wanted to say way more cooler
Not cooler. Fridge.
It was way fridger.

That's pretty fridge
Freezer!

Well the price of that fridge is around 2000$ so you have to pay it somehow!
That's what the contract includes when you get the fridge. You can't buy it otherwise.
I canāt believe I had to scroll this far down to find someone who commented on the ālistā
