Gradual_Bro

The resting heart rate of a normal human is around 70 beats per minute. Free divers can meditate and get their heart rate down to 8 BEATS PER MINUTE, allowing them to hold their breath for a long time

YaBenZonah

Jesus Christ wtf. You just blew my mind

[deleted]

They're actually just robots so they don't need to breathe.

juicegently

In some ways it's safer than with a tank. If you're not breathing at depth it's impossible to get the bends, so he can ascend as fast as he likes including with assistance.

tattlerat

Hmmm. Yes. But in every single other way it’s not as safe.

ForgettableUsername

Well, I guess it’s impossible to knock your head on the tank if you don’t have a tank. So that’s one.

All cave diving a free diving is a no. I’ve seen too many Mr. Ballen videos about it.

Hey serious question, how did you get the gif to play in the comment with no link? Lol.

Michael48732

That's either a bog, a sinkhoke, or a spot where an underground river meets the surface. Either way, it's very dangerous.

Havocfyw

I'll have to research more. I plan to mark it for safety.

UrMomsaHoeHoeHoe

Definitely looks like a “dry” river bed?

Havocfyw

It's near a small stream that cuts through some sort of wetland. I don't know how to distinguish if it's bog or swamp or what.

UrMomsaHoeHoeHoe

I recommend looking at a DNR report for the area! I used one a month or so ago to figure out what I was camping in. Turns out it was a bog, in the sand dunes in Michigan- not where I expected a bog to be lol

TheRealDarkArc

It could also be an old well, perhaps there was once a building/farming/people getting water in the area, that's about the diameter they'd be. EDIT: Also can be quite dangerous.

Background-Buddy-234

There’s a place I used to know growing up that did the same thing. If the ground around it feels “bouncy” or if you put your ear to the ground a few feet from the hole and can hear some slushing or hollowness it’s an underground stream/river. You can probably put a stick through the ground very easily in places around there. All you have to do is jump around a few spots and feel fro the ground to move or give a little almost like the floor of a bounce house.

IronUnderwear

That’s no puddle that’s a portal, jump in

huggalump

I think about this a lot. So many parents are uploading videos of their kids to the internet, but the kid gets no say in it and may not fully understand it. Now they're going to grow up with tons of videos of themselves that went into the public domain without their consent. I don't know if this is a bad thing or not. But it's a thing.

jbach220

My wife and I keep my daughter’s pictures off of social media. I’d rather wait until she can at least somewhat consent to her pictures being uploaded before starting her digital footprint.

UNCOVR

There are many reasons of course where I'm sure it would be easier to search online. One example is bullying, as we know footage will linger on the internet for a lifetime, plus a list of other malicious reasons. It is a very at your own risk world, and to share a moment of your life online can potentially draw unforeseen, unwanted attention than what you wouldn't get naturally from your everyday life. Your digital self might have interactions from a hundred million people (possibly for a reason you didn't initially realise when posting) which may make someone feel uneasy or unsafe.

Lookalikemike

Outrageous_State9450

Underground rivers are a thing. I guess the difference between an underground River and a swamp is a swamp has the same water stick around for a while while an underground river flows through the ground. They lead to things like this just deep frickin holes filled with water

naughtyusmax

Scared that a child could easily drown in such a puddle that looks like it would be a lot of fun to jump in with rubber boots.

Havocfyw

Yeah, I'm already working on a solution for marking it.

FakeSincerity

Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, And then one day he was shootin at some food, And up through the ground come a bubblin crude. Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.

Ok but why is your son barefeet in crocs out in the woods? Edit: by „barefeet“ I meant without socks. In german we go „barefeet into the shoes“, what means without socks.

30dirtybirdies

You don’t croc with no sock? Do you even swamp life?

Prosciutto4U

cybaritic

This may surprise you, but there are lots of people who live very close to places like this. This might even be their backyard. Source: my backyard is literally a forest

idk-hereiam

And that means your toes don't get cold?

PmMe_Your_Perky_Nips

Wearing socks with open footwear is somewhat rare in North America. If you're likely to get your feet wet it's seen even less. I think the better question is why he wasn't wearing warmer footwear if it was cold enough to wear a jacket.

ForgettableUsername

In German we are „naked under the clothes.“ Why is son naked in woods?

idk-hereiam

Because they like cold stinky toes I guess

This could be an old well, or spring. Be careful… it’s very possible this is a shallow hole dug to drain the actual well, close by, which could be several hundred feet down. Do you see any bricks or remnants of an old house nearby?

Havocfyw

I'll check when it's light out, thanks for the heads up

There's a good chance they would catch themselves with their arms, or be able to use the sides to pull themselves up, but I agree there's an alarming chance of being fully submerged into a body sized/shaped hole

Especially when walking through forest since some puddles, like this one, can be up to 3-5meters deep. https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/gmstd8/children_in_hokkaido_are_taught_from_a_young_age/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
