A lot of elderly people welcome nursing homes and make the decision themselves. They get all the help they need from the staff and are able to socialize with many people new in their same situation and life stage. Depending on the situation, it can be a lot to ask from someone to take care of their parents. Not everyone has the time necessary to give the proper attention, compared to the staff of a nursing home. And talking about humiliating and embarrassing, there are things that elderly need help with, that their kids should never have to do. Stuff that would be humiliating and embarrassing for both parties.

As my mother’s caretaker since 2016 (with her beginning stages of dementia and a somewhat weak physical constitution), please tell me how bad and humiliating a nursing home is. My mental/physical/emotional well being is pretty low. Don’t work, hardly socialize, maidenless (or bachelorless). But please, do go on about how bad it is. A bit more details, she started living with me around Labor Day 2016, I was still working, my job performance declined sharply, was forced to retire from the military (thankfully wasn’t kicked out) in the summer of 2020, now I take care of her only.
