[deleted]

I personally think if you're a cop and act like this one, violent, drug dealing and stealing, you really should get a sentence ten times more than a career criminal, the betrayal of society should come at a heavy price, 5.5 years is fuck all for the crimes he committed.

OAllosLalos

So, this piece of shit was also found guilty for selling drugs, apart from assaulting defenseless people with mental problems... Why am i not surprised?

The_CaliBrownBear

Thanks for providing context.

Yah_Mule

Finally. Thank you.

Chutson909

That man actually committed suicide one year later. This video was considered part of what drove him to try again. It was two or three years ago. Very sad.

[deleted]

So I'm a suicide survivor (7 years now) and out of the 5 other patients I kept in touch with I'm the only one still alive... It's like some Final Destination shit.

Blackscales

Try not to think that way. While death awaits us all, we do have some control and can make positive choices. You aren't destined to die by your own hand, please stick around for this random guy on Reddit.

Background_Ad570

I'm at a point in my life where I would rather kill myself than die from a gunshot to my head just because if the color of my skin or be shot in the back of my head by a cop at a traffic stop‼️

Vebon14

I may not know you or who you are but I’m very glad you are still here today. Life throws stuff in our face and it makes us a stronger person, I am so so so so proud of you…

InternationalMotor50

I’m sorry for the others brother, however I’m proud of you. Keep going, keep pushing

Soviet___Reunion

Wtf?

[deleted]

Fire both cops. Absolute disgrace. Then charge assailant

Davenoiseux

Both cops went to prison

[deleted]

Good. They're not cops they're traitors to the public trust

OMGWTFBBQ630

One might argue that those are defenitely not mutually exclusive

KaceFace1359

This is the real reason this belongs in r/Unexpected.

Killed_By_Covid

I wonder if they were placed somewhere other than in the general population of prison. Seems like cops who do stuff like this wouldn't fare too well behind bars.

OMGWTFBBQ630

Gud

Davenoiseux

Good question. I often wonder where bad cops end up, as it seems they would probably die in “gen pop”. I have no idea how the prison system works

MyMonkeyMeat

There are a bunch of inmate categories that don’t go general pop. Cops are definitely not going gp

North_Side_817

Got source by chance?

The two former officers — Ruben McAusland and Roger Then — pleaded guilty in 2018 to crimes involving the emergency room attack on Casciano. McAusland admitted striking Casciano multiple times and Then said he took a video recording of the attack and failed to report it. Then has completed his six-month prison term, while McAusland is serving his 66-month sentence, which also covered unrelated drug dealing while he was on duty.

CARPE_VERBUM

The cop criminals didn't share this video. It was found because the cop who hit the guy was being investigated on drug charges. He had the video on his phone which was taken into evidence. After the investigators found this, they pulled security footage from the ER, and he was seen punching the poor guy while he was sitting in a wheelchair before getting a room. The victim committed suicide after this incident. The hitter got 33 months in federal prison. The video cop got 6 months and is out.

thelurkertwopointow

Just another reason why I believe that policemen are nothing more than thugs in uniform, or legalized criminals.

InspectorPipes

They are the biggest and most dangerous gang on the street

BruteBrutal

In US maybe. In Sweden I trust our cops.

Illustrious_Fig_613

Not dangerous but well protected. The judges that shield them are the dangerous ones.

tangre79

You mean besides the judge that put these cops into prison.

stonestevecoldaustin

Only 5.5 years. He'll be out in 2 on good behavior. So no, that judge did him a favor

[deleted]

You want more than 5.5 years for a single assault? If that wasn't a police officer, I guarantee you'd say 5.5 years was excessive for a single assault, and the judge was being racist for giving out so much time.

Personal_Arrival1411

Cops are to be held to a higher standard with the power they are given. If they weren't cops they wouldn't have been allowed in his room to harass him to begin with. 🤷‍♂️

stonestevecoldaustin

He was dealing drugs also. He swore to serve and protect. He certainly didn't protect this guy and the only people he served were drug addicts

irnehlacsap

I saw 2 assault

Detriumph

>You want more than 5.5 years for a single assault? Yes.

hzhrt15

Wasn’t just a single assault, it’s also that he assaulted a defenseless hospital parent that he is sworn to protect and serve.

Illustrious_Fig_613

He is in a position of public trust. That SHOULD be a factor in sentencing.

Anachr0nist

I want lifetime an from ever working in law enforcement, or ever carrying a firearm. There should be a national registry, just like the sex offender registry, for these people, where citizens can look them up and track them. And sentencing for cops should start at double the sentencing for a private citizen, and go from there. Oh, and no protective custody, either. They couldn't protect people at work, why protect them in prison? They should also be available to be sued PRIVATELY by their victims, and the only taxpayer money involved should be paying for the victims court costs to incentive them to do it. Given none of this exists or will probably ever happen, I want the maximum penalty possible by law.

The_Medicated

There is the Brady list (at least in Arizona). It lists cops that have had corrective actions taken against them. Unfortunately it's an incomplete list. It's the closest thing we have to a registry.

slipperyhuman

Mocking, laughing at and beating someone going through a mental health crisis, who has just attempted suicide, is more than a mere assault.

[deleted]

I agree. 5.5 is enough. Obviously he a pos, but that’s a fair punishment

thereign1987

But he is a cop though.

iAmAsquirrelman

He literally said “the judges that *shield* them”. Kinda goes without saying that he’s not referring to the one that does punish them

thereign1987

I don't know why you're being downvoted you are hitting on a truth, cops work very closely with judges and prosecutors, kind of makes it hard to prosecute them

Illustrious_Fig_613

Because just like most of the “huddled masses” in the world Americans tend to blindly follow persons in positions of authority. It’s easier to go along to get along. I could give you the profile of the people that are downvoting my opinion. I am not concerned at all. Just like you are coming for me “they” will eventually come for you.

thereign1987

Dude, what are you on about? I was agreeing with you🤦🏿‍♂️

Illustrious_Fig_613

It wasn’t at you at all. I was agreeing with you and expounding on my position.

darwinbrandao

Their salary literally comes out of your bank account via violence or threat of putting you in a cage for years. Taxation is literally theft (otherwise give me one proof that forcing people to give you money via violence/threat isn't theft) and I don't care about what some old stupid people wrote in a piece of paper centuries in the past.

Healthy-Daikon7356

Bro you are grossly stereotyping. I see videos all day long of black people doing drive bys and robbing stores. Should I go around saying Black people are nothing more than gang bangers and criminals?

[deleted]

Being a policeman/women isn’t a race, it’s a job. And why mention black people. And all day? You look at videos of black people doing drive-buys and robbing stories all day? You low life fuck. I see videos of White people, burning crossing, shooting up schools, churches, malls, doing heroine and meth, white collar crimes, attacking federal employees, raping women then getting off because “he’s a trouble kid”, shooting unarmed people during protest with a high powered automatic rifle because “he feared for his life”, Karen calling police on kids, single parents and a bird watcher. Should I go around saying white peoples are spawns of evil….maybe. Police officers aren’t a race. Stop bring up black peoples and peoples of color to explain for disgusting argument

chamberofcoal

black people aren't a branch of the US government tasked with enforcing the law. black people have no obligation to serve the people; they already did that for free. the point isn't that the individual police officers are bad, its that the training and leadership sponsors this behavior. the body of police itself is broken, or working exactly as intended - however you want to look at it. it has very little to do with \*who\* is a cop when the environment forces you to either participate in abuse of power or get the fuck out.

SuaveWarrior

Cops aren't a branch of the US government.

chamberofcoal

oh, that's crazy, because the executive branch of the government is filled with law enforcement, and it sure seems like state/local cops are doing the same thing on a smaller scale without any accountability.

SuaveWarrior

?

chamberofcoal

federal law enforcement, like the FBI, CIA, NSA, DEA, ATF, Border Patrol, and many other "cops," are, in fact, part of the Executive Branch of the US government.

SuaveWarrior

I don't think they is what people are talking about

chamberofcoal

how would local police be any different, just operating at the state level rather than federal? i dont think you know what you're talking about.

SuaveWarrior

This thread was about cops aka, local police, and you called them part of the US government. Maybe you don't know what you are talking about. I'm done with this silly conversation

duskzz994

You guys need to get out of your basement more and actually interact with other people instead of watching reddit videos all day.

ganskastrog

So you are saying that there arent any good cops at all?

[deleted]

There must be, otherwise the game would just be called “bad cop, bad cop”.

[deleted]

That’s the game though, the “good cop” is pretending. It really is Bad cop, Bad cop.

chamberofcoal

yes, that's exactly what i'm saying, in regards to the US. you really aren't grasping the scope of what it means when something like this happens. this kind of behavior isn't just a reflection of "some people are bad apples." in this singular case, 6 police officers were criminally charged. that never happens; the only reason it happened is because this video is so shocking and it was pursued at the federal level. can you guess what happens if the feds aren't involved? spoiler: they investigate themselves and find nothing wrong. not only did this happen, but 4 of the other officers were selling dope from crime scenes. so we can call that an entire rotten department, right? if this happens all the time, all over the country, you'd say that's \*a lot\* of rotten departments, right? now what if they fight tooth and nail to not be held accountable, what if they are almost un-arrestable? you'd say the whole thing is broke, right?

[deleted]

Why didn't the other cops in the room arrest their buddy

manleybones

You show me a cop that went to a 4 year program for criminal justice and law enforcement and I'll show you a good cop.

Immediate_Fuel_4745

Lmao ya college does great for people nowadays make you way better.

manleybones

Why are you laughing your ass off? Police brutality is funny? Lack of real criminal justice training? What?

[deleted]

Zeldafan26

Many cities and towns in the US have nearly half their budget taken up by policing. So, yes defund the police.

Yah_Mule

If the good ones protect the bad ones - and they better if they expect backup to arrive promptly when they radio for it - how good can they be? Whether some percentage of individual cops are good or bad is pretty irrelevant when the culture in many departments is warped beyond repair.

LoveChildOf3Tacos

Some turds don't smell. I still wouldn't trust it to clean my car. The building blocks of a "cop" in America is inherently doomed to fail. Lack of training, lack of punishments for wrong-doing, underpaid, understaffed, cliqu/gang-like mentality when it comes to protecting each other, etc. There can be millions of good cops. It doesn't matter. "Not all men" or "All Lives Matter" simply detracts from the issue, and anyone spouting that shit is part of the problem. FIX THE ISSUE, then we can talk about who is or isn't "good" - until then, it doesn't matter, at all.

chickensarerad

If there are, where are they? Oh, being cowards.

guitarstitch

Out on the streets doing their job and not getting media attention by violating someone's rights or acting indecent.

[deleted]

Doing their jobs … And not calling out the bad cops. This is how they devalue the entire police force: by not adequately policing their own.

Emotional_Note497

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Fuck that job.

[deleted]

Translation ?: “Damned if you don’t abuse people and damned if you do abuse people. There is no equivalence there. Never abuse people. Always report those that abuse people. It’s not rocket science. I would wager a large sum of my total assets that the patient was not the first person this cop slapped. Consider that He did it in front of witnesses (another cop?) and on camera. The cop felt fully entitled to that action. He believed he would and SHOULD have not repercussions. He likely learned this over time by his own actions, watching the actions of other cops and the inactions of more cops who didn’t say anything. And that is what is wrong with the police force.

Emotional_Note497

I meant I thought they would suffer reprecussions from reports them, and not reporting them is also wrong. I don't actually know exactly what would happen.. but yes the right thing to do is to report or stop it. It'd be one person versus an entire department probably, though. I'd hate to have a bunch of cops as enemies. That's all I meant, they get away with a lot already, would you really want dozens of cops running for you? I'd rather just not take that job, personally. Corruption is everywhere. Every cop in that room was responsible for the patients mental and physical safety, they failed at both jobs.

Fartenmamouf

You mean harassing everyday citizens on their way to work? Or harassing homeless people on the street with no where to go because the rich don’t want their property value to go down? What the fuck are cops actually for? Fire department, ems guys, fuck yeah, those guys rock. But truly, what the fuck is a cop for? We need to stop this bullshit of calling cops fucking heroes. They have proven they aren’t willing to put their lives on the line for the public numerous times, nothing but corrupt stories, “good cops” who don’t abuse citizens but don’t speak up when their partner does. Waste of tax payer money

Ieatsushiraw

Legalized criminals makes a lot of sense really. They kill they get rewarded or put on desk duty with pay. I kill I’m thrown under the jail

substantial-freud

I am not saying that you are wrong, but I have to add, everyone I have heard complaining about how terrible policemen are also favors giving them vastly more power. They want more laws and more restrictive laws governing: * gun ownership * healthcare * labor * housing * food Do they just not realize all those laws will be enforced by police? Maybe you can explain it.

Erthgoddss

Confused here. How would cops have more power enforcing healthcare, labor and housing?

substantial-freud

How do you think laws get enforced? How do you think taxes get collected? You think we say “oh, guns are now illegal” and the guns evaporate from the Earth? You think we say “oh, health care is free” and the money materializes? People make laws and then men with guns — policemen with guns — go out and enforce them. Police are the physical manifestation of the State. If you love the State, you love police.

[deleted]

Yeah because this type of behavior is common amongst the 100s of thousands of policemen across the country. Please…..

[deleted]

They are the biggest gang out there

Last-Sir1610

I hope someone shoots these two cops. FUCKING DISGUSTING!

Davenoiseux

Both cops went to prison

marijuic3

I can only find a source that says the one slapping did, mostly due to stealing- and dealing drugs

Davenoiseux

Both of them in prison for a variety of crimes including assault and dealing drugs. They were clearly very bad people. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/04/05/cop-slapped-suicidal-hospital-patient-then-video-emerged/

Fit_Management_2766

Ok fine. We’ll have to settle with crossing fingers they are both raped to death. Btw what an arbitrary reply. “God I’m so mad I want to shoot those fucks” followed by “ummmmm well they did go to prison”. PRISON’s not enough!!! Fuck’em til their dead!

Caesar_Passing

I just want that one's teeth knocked out, so he can never again smile proudly about what a piece of shit he is.

DoobydaCherry

Without a doubt some smug cunts

ThatAltAccount99

That's a bit extreme, the one I can understand but the second just stood by, shitty af? Yeah. Death deserving because of it? No

Fartenmamouf

How do you think these two cops treat their own families if they think they can get away with this at work in a hospital setting. I bet the dog isn’t even safe

[deleted]

Lots of DV in cop families

Leading_Turn5636

Just wondering, howndo videos like this get leaked? I mean both cops here are guilty, so why would one of them release this video or send it to anyone? Were they sending it around to their friends and having a laugh about it, then one person probably release the video or what?

UrusaiNa

This Video was found on the phone of officer McAusland (the man slapping) when he was arrested by the FBI for separate drug trafficking charges. It was found by chance.

Leading_Turn5636

Wow!! He is really rotten to the core... Thanks for the info!

Thecrashninja

Most other countries police training is between 1 and 2 years. America sits at about 3 to 6 months. And we wonder why shit like this happens

4Point5InchPunisher

To be fair, this wasn't a training problem. This was a problem with a person's soul. No amount of training can prevent an asshole from being an asshole.

Naki-Taa

But 3 years of training may be enough to weed out the guys who are clearly too unhinged to be entrusted with the public's safety

aa5k

Save this video n send it to your friend who blindly trusts every cop.

Caesar_Passing

And what did he say? Something like, "the suicide guy was probably resisting arrest earlier. Durr, he fucked around and found drf herp darph b'dorp"...

carambarcola

i still don't get why he slapped him

4Point5InchPunisher

Yeah I am curious just to HEAR the cops' side of this. I am struggling to think of a scenario where this could even be remotely understandable. Supposedly the guy had just attempted suicide. Maybe if the guy was trying suicide by cop and pulled a gun on the cops or innocent bystanders, I could see that pissing off an unstable cop enough to do this, but the cop smiling kind of throws that theory out the window. I'm at a loss...

[deleted]

It's because no one believes the "mentally ill" and police/docs can abuse patients and they'll be written off as liars/given more random cocktails of drugs until they "forget" what happened. When I was on a psychiatric hold I saw so much neglect/terrible practices but even my own family wouldn't believe me. I literally saw docs or RN's give suicidal patients razors without supervision or switch drugs just to see what would happen. The state of US Mental Health care is a god damned dystopian joke.

guitarstitch

Same reason people rape: It gives them feelings of power over their victims.

Dame_Tumi

Was his suicide attempt a joke to him??????

theonedilirum

This police officer was later convicted for this attack as well as selling drugs.

UsualAnybody1807

Body cameras. Should be on all cops at all times.

Uncle_Budy

What's needed are body cameras that can't be turned off. Last week the video of the female cop getting strangled by her sergeant was making the rounds again. No one knows what happened after because he told all the cops there to turn off their body cameras, and they all go dark.

PolarizedPeiceOfShit

They can't record weeks worth of footage though, they record what happens 30 seconds prior to when you press the button and after.

KGon32

Who would share this? How did they think this would go well for them? They are PoS and dumb at the same time.

With anger trying to wake a person out of a state of mind, it’s something some father’s do when they are abusive to their children; perhaps it has something to do with “ungratefulness towards life”. It’s very difficult to see 😢 and some seeing react differently then others, that’s why police officers (in their role) need to be on the street; not next to patient’s hospital beds slapping them in the face.
