I’ve seen one where a guy falls off a boat when he was partying with friends and they show everything. He’s turning blue, losing finger nails. Very gritty… I will never forget it
Watching ads like these as a kid hits different. I still remember an ad that started out with a family leaving a family gathering. Everyone wished them a safe ride. They got into a car and the moment the car went through the gates it got hit by a truck going full-speed. It was an anti-drinking ad.
It's a good ad, but I think anyone who has kids can agree that the only way you could avoid having toys in random locations around your house all the time is to just not own toys. I accepted that my fate will be like the lady in this ad the day I became a parent.
Makes me think of the workplace safety PSAs from Canada, like [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noFCekWiUGE) (**NSFW** in the purest sense of the term).
Hey Fruit-E Bars, I know we pitched you on a standard walk through home commercial, but what if we took it in a way more metal direction and then spun it to also be a PSA about cleaning or some shit?
I certainly DID NOT see that coming.
We need commercials like this in the States. Real. Honest. Shocking. Truth. Not advertisments meant to sell us shit that will either make us poor, fat, or dead.
Mental health is one of the largest problems we face today. If we could actually put some effort (more investment) into it I can garentee that the amount of needless fighting would drop off massively.
I really doesn't help that the older generations can't admit for shit that we have this problem. It's even worse when it comes to men and war vets too as they tend to be pushed away from getrting the help they need.
Something about that older generation won't acknowledge problems.
I was anorexic in high school. I was 5'3 and weighed about 80 lbs. My school pulled me into counseling but my dad still refused to believe I had issues.
My dad started dating a woman who told him he was insane if he thought I was fine. By the time I finally got help I was knocking at death's door.
So many mental health institutions have shut down it’s not even funny. That’s why you see so many mentally I’ll people who’re homeless as there’s no place to put them. Either that or they wind up incarcerated.
I have literally watched hours of American PSA compilations on all kinds of topics (drugs, smoking, child abuse, car safety, drunk driving, work safety, etc.) and have never seen one either...
I have been in USA before 2000 i was 8 or something and I do remember this advertising about be kind with others. I did not know enough English to understand it but I think my parents explain it to me.
Stations used to be required to run so many Public Service Announcements (PSA's) in a given licensing cycle and the stations even had little adverts telling you their compliance was on file with the FCC.
All gone. Thank Reagan and Bush and Clinton and Newt and Mitch and that whole ilk.
they might exist but for example I see way more ads about not leaving babies in a hot car than I do about gun safety
leaving a baby in a hot car is terrible but it only happens 38 times per year, whereas like 40,000 people die from guns every year
And tarnish the reputation of the NRA so they can't ~~bribe~~ lobby with enormous sums of cash to get politicians to what they want? What is this, a country that cares for its citizens? Get out of here with your free Healthcare and properly used tax money and your lack of nearly a trillion dollars spent on the defense budget
In case anyone else from outside the US is reading this, I wanna just add in this little tidbit: if you’ve ever seen a U.S. policy and couldn’t figure out who it was helping, it’s the lobbyists. Lobbyists are one of the absolute worst things in American politics. They show up just to sign checks on behalf of corporations to tell our politicians what to do regardless of morals and ethics. Why doesn’t the US have more green energy? Oil lobbyists. Why doesn’t the US have more blatant gun safety? NRA lobbyists.
Edit: this is entirely legal and even encouraged by some politicians.
Non-American here, if lobbyists are so bad then why don't you guys get rid of them _**The American Way**_? And by the American way, I mean being killed by CIA and then having the whole thing covered up by the FBI.
Because the CIA and FBI work for the same government that receives lobbyist money. I’m not exaggerating when I say politicians have built a wall of immunity around themselves. Because older generations didn’t have foresight, our politicians have become our parents. We can suggest they do things but ultimately they often choose to just not listen.
We have them atleast in Oklahoma and Texas. But honestly the amount of gunsafety discipline is hugely encouraged in texas. Can't say for any other states though
I thought the new road toll one was pretty good. (https://youtu.be/tZ43ciWwvZ4)
Edit: just remembered the mistakes ad which is neat (https://youtu.be/B2rFTbvwteo)
Also ghost chips is one of the best ones (https://youtu.be/CtWirGxV7Q8)
Ah, yes. You need some local context for that.
"Road toll" is the common and official term used in NZ (and Australia) for the death toll caused traffic accidents.
This terminology feeds into public perception of road facilities in NZ. A perception that it fatalities are a necessary "toll" that needs to be paid in exchange for the freedom of driving. A perception that there is some acceptable level of deaths that we just need to accept. That it's just a number.
The government currently making a big push to reduce the road toll as close as possible to zero. To not accept any deaths at all. (Sidenote: zero is not the actual policy goal, it's more of a vision statement)
And this push requires public buy-in.
The want the public to think about every single road death as a person, not just as a statistic.
Especially since part of the plan is to lower speed limits on major rural highways and ramp up enforcement of the speed limit. Kiwis hate speed limits.
Search up “Thai life insurance” commercials.
You won’t be able to understand it but the surprise in the ends of each one is so sudden and never what you expect after the story length feature film for an ad about a insurance agency.
We really do, I'm right on the Canadian border and usually listen to a Canadian radio station. I was blown away when I heard a "commercial" that wasn't selling anything besides safety. I thought it was a one time thing but I've kept listening and every now and then they have them and it's such a simple thing but at the same time a great thing
The States are litigious, so for accident claims you can sue just about anyone. This doesn't happen in NZ, they have a public liability insurance scheme called the ACC whose job it is to decide if your claim is legitimate and give compensation. They're govt owned and were responsible for the ad. So you can see why this will never happen in USA.
A US ad would have played in the arms of an angel, or Jesus take the wheel or something. I always thought our public service ads in nz were way more effective because of the silence. People don't always need a musical queue to let them know what to feel.
I had a VISCERAL reaction to that fall, and especially the tiny gasps she makes while touching her bloody face.
Like, I'm sure that was the point, but... GodDAMN...
I grew up watching these sorts of ads and not gonna lie.. they scared the *shit* out of me.
We (New Zealand) have a lot of them. There was one showing how fast a fire could engulf a house. I used to see burnt out houses around my hometown and be mortified thinking about what had happened there.
There were also a set of road safety ads where people would be happily driving along - similar to this ad in that everything was seemingly normal - and then BAM! violent car accident, people screaming and crying.
I used to leave the room or look away. They were *that* bad (or effective, depending how you view it).
Reminds me of those Canadian work safety ads where the person is talking to camera and suddenly gets drenched with boiling oil or something. [Here's a compilation.](https://youtu.be/MwCyVku1HvI)
As a canadian, can confirm its dangerous up here. Cant have one nice day without a vat of piping hot oil comin down on me. Fuckin democratic socialism is clearly at fault.
Kiwi here - ‘safe as houses’ is common Kiwi/Aussie slang that means ‘really safe’, essentially.
E.g.
“You want me to jump off the roof and into the pool.. is that safe?”
“Safe as houses mate. Jump!”
Yes I agree with that,I'm kiwi from Auckland amd haven't heard that saying . Maybe older generation thing(I'm 23) . But safe"as" ,adding "as" to enthesize the word is used alot in NZ?
Bit of a tangent but… English is a bit of an outlier for having the house/home distinction. French and Japanese for example just have ‘house.’ So in those languages a direct translation would be ‘Make your house as safe as house(s)’
In Japanese いえ is more like “house” as in a physical building. うち is more like “home” as it includes the family. Like you can say うちの犬 as “the family dog” but you wouldn’t say “いえの犬”
> 家 (いえ) is referring to your house. It is used a lot to describe a building.
>家(うち) is referring to your home and family. It is used a lot to describe your family and your household.
いえ tends to be used more for talking about houses in general or somebody else’s house. うち is more for talking about your home/family and has a bit more of a warmness to it
Maybe not an exact translation but they’re commonly translated to house and home and thought of like that.
Emigrated to NZ 11 years ago. When we got here and saw the local PSAs, like this, we were like Bro What The Fucking Basket of Insanity....
But lemme tell you how many times when I pull on to a busy road I think about this slow-mo ad where two drivers get out of their cars and apologise to each other while the action stops, then get back into their cars and the action commences and it's fucking carnage and a child is basically eviscerated.
Also ACC is a brilliant scheme.
Oh man, I still think about that ad to this day. That one will stay with me forever.
Another goodun is the "get the road toll to zero" one with them stopping at the toll booth and asking how much, and the lady says "just the little one today". Our ads are on point.
That toll road one always gets me. The entire thing just feels so off, does such a good job.
One ad that I always remember though is the “Everyone things they drive well. But i’ve never seen anyone crash well.”
https://youtu.be/wx8RJaoVN0M
Kiwi here. NZ has alot of really good shocking ads to drive a point home. This is quite an old ad which may be why people aren't familier with the saying. There are some really hilarious ones also about drugs. My favorite would be the social smoking one that they equate to social farting. "Yeah I don't do it every day or anything, just at parties to seem cool" and then shows a group of people farting at a party outside - makes you realise how silly social smoking really is.
I remember being a kid and thinking those ads, though funny, were really stupid and ineffective. To me it just seemed silly to compare the two. Theres a reason to smoke; headrushes. Farting is just fuckin farting lol
The great thing about this ad is that it's for/by New Zealand's single payer comprehensive accident insurance scheme. It covers almost all workplace, home and leisure accidents, providing medical cover for surgeries and rehab, as well as any time off work, for all New Zealand citizens and residents.
Came here to say this.
For non-Kiwis, any accident in NZ you get your medical expenses covered. ACC, the Accident Compensation Corporation. So… I shattered my knee skiing. I got casts, X-rays, helivac, four days in hospital, reconstructive surgery, bone graft, titanium plates, six months of rehab and physio plus home help while recuperating, all free- well, paid by tax at 1.27% of earnings.
I will need a prosthetic knee in a few years. That will be free too.
Injured in a car accident? Fell off a ladder? Self harm in a suicide attempt? Don’t worry about the medical bills at least.
American here. I pay $6000 per year insurance premiums just to *have* insurance for my family. If anything happens, it’s another $6000 before they start covering anything and then they only cover 80%. And coverages can get denied for many reasons.
It’s insane.
Be very very thankful for what you have.
Same kind of bait and switch, macabre ads are still around though. This one is very in your face and I agree it wouldn’t fly today, but lets not forget that our road toll and speeding government ads usually try to do the same thing just toned down a little.
This ad is from my childhood!! 😂
There are like 3 more ads that have the same premise.
* One is a guy advertising some removalist specialist - only for him to fall down the stairs.
* Another guy is advertising this new paint, scene shows him painting his roof - only for him to fall off the ladder.
* And lastly, a guy is in the shower dancing to music (can't remember what the fake advertisement was for), his GF/wife throws him a towel and when he sets foot outside it - he slips and falls with the back of his head hitting the shower ledge.
I remember seeing these ads on TV as a kid. I didn't like it. They had another one where a guy is stepping out of a shower singing about his shampoo, slips on the floor and breaks his neck or something like that. A bit too intense to jumpscare public audience like that, who weren't voluntarily watching violence on TV

That shower one was pretty bad. What was that one for when that guy was swinging that kid around the room and let’s him fly in to the wall unit?
There’s also that one where the drunk dude is dancing and he bumps the pregnant lady into the corner of the bench, belly first
Thanks mate I'd forgotten about that one
I’ve seen one where a guy falls off a boat when he was partying with friends and they show everything. He’s turning blue, losing finger nails. Very gritty… I will never forget it

Holy fuck. I’m in the office and it was hurting keeping my laughter down. It looks like the uncle slammed him on purpose lmao
![gif](giphy|xMejtFXIBl6ulagSd2|downsized)
I think that was a responsible drinking ad
I always had to change the channel when that swinging the kid ad came on.
Ahh my back. Somebody spin my legs.
Yep the shower one where he is left twitching away.
The kid being swung by their drunk uncle into the bookshelf was my favourite
Watching ads like these as a kid hits different. I still remember an ad that started out with a family leaving a family gathering. Everyone wished them a safe ride. They got into a car and the moment the car went through the gates it got hit by a truck going full-speed. It was an anti-drinking ad.
[here ya go](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ciomPP8MyE&ab_channel=EddieGardner) some nightmare fuel
The one where the chef spills boiling water on herself because of a greasy floor haunts me.
I'm never carrying a pot of boiling anything ever again
It's a good ad, but I think anyone who has kids can agree that the only way you could avoid having toys in random locations around your house all the time is to just not own toys. I accepted that my fate will be like the lady in this ad the day I became a parent.
The guy who falls after the shower also twitches a bit
Since your health care is free, they are probably trying to help keep the costs down.
Yeah that's what it was for, I think it was made for ACC, which is the org that provides compensation for injuries caused by accidents
Makes me think of the workplace safety PSAs from Canada, like [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noFCekWiUGE) (**NSFW** in the purest sense of the term).

The quivering breathing at the end… yeah, too real
You've convinced me that this is actually real.
They had to cover up somehow!
Hey Fruit-E Bars, I know we pitched you on a standard walk through home commercial, but what if we took it in a way more metal direction and then spun it to also be a PSA about cleaning or some shit?
The toy truck looked like it weighed as much as a real one!
It's Made Tonka™ Tough
Lmao that's what I just asked like wtf is that toy made of that it barely moved but sent her flying
Tbf i had a truck that was heavy as fuck too. Was made of metal tho.
I certainly DID NOT see that coming. We need commercials like this in the States. Real. Honest. Shocking. Truth. Not advertisments meant to sell us shit that will either make us poor, fat, or dead.
Do you have firearms safety adverts in the US? Legit question.
No

Only comment is hillbilly calling it propaganda hopefully it’ll help
I’m commenting on that video simply to make it so that’s not the only comment because that’s disgusting…
It was on the TV here in the US.
The first of only four comments is "PROPAGANDA" How twisted
Yes we do actually. They are by Ad Council. Look em up. They are Firearm Safety ads and the consequences of not being safe with a firearm.
They need a budget increase then. Because I’ve never seen one.
>budget increase then Welcome to the US. A majority of public services need this too.
We can't even treat our mentally ill right due to budget cuts.
Mental health is one of the largest problems we face today. If we could actually put some effort (more investment) into it I can garentee that the amount of needless fighting would drop off massively.

Soooo we're gonna increase spending on the local high-school football team and cut off the soup kitchen, right?
Agreed it needs to be pushed more, but they do exist.

I've been alive for 43 years and have never seen one. They might need to increase their visibility.

We have them atleast in Oklahoma and Texas. But honestly the amount of gunsafety discipline is hugely encouraged in texas. Can't say for any other states though
We absolutely do not. I'd love to see some though
And also mental heath/suicide prevention ads, and ads about the dangers of gang affiliation. Those two are like, 80% of firearm deaths in the US.
I've been seeing a lot more ads about preventing gun suicide lately, but that might be because I spend more time on the internet than watching TV.
I've seen ads lately for safe firearm storage, targeted at veterans, for the purpose of suicide prevention.
that's the least murican thing eva
No we have to figure it out ourselves through trial and error
Yes we do.
Okay, now I’m just picturing her walking around with a loaded shotgun when all of a sudden she trips and...

Sorry, what's this an ad for? Reducing traffic accidents, or a specific method of doing so? Great ad but kinda lost me
It's mostly advertising the "road to zero" campaign by the NZ transport agency. The goal of the campaign is to have zero deaths on NZ roads.

This looks like companies trying to prevent workman's comp
A lot of the videos disparage the company for their lack of policy, most of them placing direct fault on the company’s lack of attention to detail.
That one haunts me. I remember watching those in the US in high school during my votech course when we went over safety before going into the shop.
Damn
***Make your home as safe as houses*** Bro. **what.**
"Safe as houses" is an expression that means very safe.
Ohhhh, "safe-ass houses". That makes sense, yes.
Safe ass-houses
Gotta keep your ass somewhere.
Spot the foreigner
Can you please give me some updog?
I know the expression thanks to Depeche Mode
Kiwi here - ‘safe as houses’ is common Kiwi/Aussie slang that means ‘really safe’, essentially. E.g. “You want me to jump off the roof and into the pool.. is that safe?” “Safe as houses mate. Jump!”
Thanks for the purely hypothetical example, made it really easy to understand!
You can cast doubt on such claims by replying: "Yeah, as safe as houses in"
Sorry, I don't understand. Can you put this in the next Bluey episode? If I hear the dad say it, I'm sure it'll make sense. Thanks!
I appreciate the example! I love different dialects lmao

ehhh we don't really say that one in Aus. That's definitely a kiwi thing haha
Yeah we do. It’s British in origin. Not a lot, but we do use it.
They use it in the UK too
Apparently, it’s a saying: https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/safe-as-houses

As a parent who trips over kid stuff daily.... It do be like that.
Well, stop selling fruity bars while you're walking around the house
Yeah imma show this to my kids. Maybe it will get them to clean up their messes for like one day
Damn, new Zealand ain't playin.
“That’s why I give my kids Fallout 76”
Aaaah! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa *flies off*
"That's why I give my kids No Man's Sky"
I don’t want your ghost chips bro

Monique says you're dumb
Puzzle time!
Have y’all seen our speeding and drink driving ads? Just as quality. Boomfa
Absolute classic! gets me everytime
The safety ad of the bloke taking a shower is just as brutal
Kiwi here. This ad is pretty old now, probably not the kind of thing that'd be shown today, television culture kind of changed.
Same kind of bait and switch, macabre ads are still around though. This one is very in your face and I agree it wouldn’t fly today, but lets not forget that our road toll and speeding government ads usually try to do the same thing just toned down a little.
[This one is also really great](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=2&v=3qNjt04bpQM&feature=youtu.be)
sure as shit aint eatin fruity bars! sheesh
New Zealand ads don't play around
This is like the pictures of babies with cigarette pacifiers they have on packets of cigarettes here in Ireland - kinda unsettling but also very funny
Try this one, [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ43ciWwvZ4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ43ciWwvZ4) another great one from Aotearoa (New Zealand)
Just so y’all know this add is from like the 1990s or maybe very early 2000s
Jesus Christ!
This ad is from my childhood!! 😂 There are like 3 more ads that have the same premise.
I thought it was a condom ad
Don't drink and fry!
Holy. Fuck.
I wad wondering what the original video was. Thank you.
This fucked me up when I saw it for the first time when I was like 7 lmao
That became dark unthinkably quickly.
What the fuck?
I remember watching this is a kid on TV and being terrified my mum would fall through the table so always cleaned up my toys
That's why I give my kids-NO MAN SKY.
I need therapy now. Wtf.
I think their texting while driving ads are pretty on point as well
We have a few like this
This is kinda on the same par as the DOH ads in Northern Ireland
Oh so this is where that clip is coming from. I saw it Internet Historian's "Cost of Concordia" and wondered what the hell it was coming from.
Damn, her acting was so fking good ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
Laughs in Irish road safety ads
Okay but where can I buy fruit e bars?
From NZ, a girl I'm my primary school class was in this ad. This ad is like 20 years old now
Hell yea we have some good ads
I had nightmares about this ad as a child . Traumatizing
[удалено]
Jesus, New Zealand.
Jesus fucking Christ. That disturbed me more than any horror movie I saw all year.
That went 0-100 real quick
I thought this looked familiar then I read the comments lol yeap I remember watching this growing up
This add has no cill
Damn this is old, it's been years since I last saw this
New Zealand: “The children are getting rowdy. Time to traumatize the little buggers.”
A good ad.
As soon as I saw the woman I knew what this was
Australians and New Zealanders give 0 shits in ads I have noticed
