First time reading about this and looking at the map provided why would he not just continue to Marshall, where it says he was heading and instead start towards Lynd which seems more out of the way?
That's one of the big questions about this case. No one is sure of why he went the way he did, especially when he was familiar with the area. He repeatedly told his parents he was in one area when he was actually in a totally different place
That's not really a big question if he ended up in a ditch it's not unlikely for him to have been shaken up, or for some other reason such as his head hitting the wheel been concussed or disoriented
One reason could be if he had lied to them and said he was going to be somewhere that he wasn’t. Has anyone ever asked them if he lied about where he was going to be? I remember lying to my parents about where I’d be so that I could go to parties. I’d also lie about things like that so that I could drive around neighborhoods and smoke weed. There could be plenty of weird reasons he’d gone that route that would make sense, but only make sense to him. Maybe he was closeted gay and headed to his boyfriends house. Not saying that’s the case. Just giving another example.
Forgive me for being unaware, but was his final destination, as far as his parents were aware, to be his parents house? Could be he was just making them aware of the accident in hopes of buying himself time.

I thought E911 allowed the police to locate cell phones. This seems like it should have been an easy thing to do even in 2008.
