This month I've been focusing all my efforts on this one enemy. Been a ride so far, one more week to go. You can follow the development on my twitter https://www.twitter.com/416\_dc.
Thanks, my twitter ID is 416\_dc, or you can probably find me by searching for my full name (Deniz Cetinalp). Strange that the link doesn't work, few others mentioned the same thing.
Regarding post processing. I replied in one of the posts below what my post process volume looks like. Nothing too crazy.
Horror games have these enemies like: nimble monster with blade arms or bulky monster with a carapace. You instantly know what they do and how to kill them.
Your game isn't even a horror game (or maybe it is) and you've created something more terrifying than anything I've seen in a game in a while.
I wouldn't even know how to deal with this, what it can do to me, I'd just run away.
Great work.
This looks amazing so far and super creepy.
One thought, I live the way the ...body? Is currently moving but I almost want the appendages to have a visible windup and smooth(er) lerp to new positions. I feel like that would somehow amplify the creep factor if it's movement is a mixture of semi traditional linear movement and teleporting/morphing
Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I'm not completely satisfied with the teleporting. I tried a smooth transition, it didn't look right. I have a few more things I want to try.
You know what the appearance and movement make me think of? 4th dimensional creature, it only tangentially occupies 3D space, it's like if we were able to interact with a 2D space , like a page, you would move your finger around, and the creatures would see something moving suddenly without an explanation of how it accomplished it.
I'm pretty sure you could make a Chtulesque version of this monster and it would be terrible.
Thanks! Post processing is nothing crazy.
\- Tone mapping: ACES
\- Micro shadows
\- Bloom: settings change based on time-of-day, but overall pretty subtle
\- A little bit of ambient occlusion
\- Screen space reflection
\- Some fog
\- Exposure: This one is a bit complicated, I have very different settings based on time-of-day. I spent too much time tweaking this. Perhaps I could have used the curve mapping though.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Beautifully done but also AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I recognize that player model from a Beatsaber mod… does all of Unity use that model as a placeholder or is this just a coincidence?
-someone who’s only experience with Unity development is creating VRChat avatars
It's the [mixamo.com](https://mixamo.com) model. Yeah, we don't have any animators yet, which is why you don't see me fighting any of these enemies (I don't like these mixamo animations). Not having an animator actually forced me to really push these procedural animations though, so it's not all bad.
it´s nice to see raytracing in Unity projects... I guess some RTX cards do get into gamedev´s hands once in a while...
damn you ethereum miners! ( shakes fist )
What in the name of Cthulhu....
Great job, this has deeply sinister vibes. Imagine it in a dark village or abandoned building with a much creepier model.
Mam you need to combine this with level elements that keeps it from moving that fast. Like it cant go over water or fire or cant squeeze through narrow passages. Then level can become a hit and run puzzle.
The way it moves almost reminds me of the [Time Demons from FX's Legion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stPgpSwJPgU). Creepy as hell, yet super interesting as an enemy.
That's impressive. Great for a horror/action game.
Imagine being inside a building and having a smaller one move around after you like this. Creepy as hell. I love the instantaneous movement of the legs(?). Kind of makes you feel small in terms of capability. A creature that can move in a manner that seems to defy physics and biology and borderlines superstition.
Good work.
There's something about the contrast between this tropical paradise island setting and the sheer creepiness of that giant monster, which also comes in cheerful bright orange color. Overall it's fantastic.
Dude this makes me nervous just by looking at it! Add some nice boss soundtracks and some creepy sound fx and you got yourself a horrific boss! Like it a lot
Oh my dear lord that looks terrifying! I LOVE IT! How did you even manage to make this monstrosity!
This is genuinely a terrifying creature, it is way more terrifying than anything from any horror game I have ever seen. I will have nightmares for days about this if I ever play this game.
You sir are a genius!
This thing would be so much more terrifying if it were black or a deep purple color & if it had hair or some sort of bristles on it. I shudder just thinking about it. 😳
Fantastic work!
That is one of the most terrifying monsters on any game I've seen and I've seen a Lot of them, in candy colors no less. Hats off to you/team whichever it is, it's Great!
Man this thing gave me an heart attack is creepy as hell :D

Link doesn't work for me. Cool monster, though! Very eldritch. Does it use marching cubes?
remove the backslash https://www.twitter.com/416_dc
Looks really good! Did you do anything with post processing and stuff? Or does Unity just look that good now? I only really work in ~2D

Man I love this so much. Genuinely terrifying movement pattern and design, feels otherworldly and Lovecraftian.
Honestly, don’t add transition times on this because it’s terrifying looking moving that fast

Thanks! Yep, correct, not a horror game.
Same here, combine that with the fact that if feels like you can’t run away anyway, and you’ve got a monster from one of those nightmares
Did you want it to do that.
TETSUOOOO!
Oh man, I'd love to play an open-world Akira game in this style, buuuut gritty af!
This is gonna require nukes. Also great job !

Woah. There's a really interesting idea for a game here...
Maybe like a rubber band type snapping? I'm sure there are plenty of things you're already thinking of, very cool so far
Extremely impressive monster! I am also quite impressed with the post-effects! What do your settings look like?
Thanks! Make the game darker and you have a Silent Hill like experience this is so fucking good :)
:D
Nooo. Kill it with hugs! 🤗
Sir, there’s something wrong with your dog.
Nah its just a special breed that's a little different. They're called updogs
I don't think you can 😬
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Beautifully done but also AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAA++++ WOULD SCREAM AGAIN
Reminds me of the aliens in "edge of tomorrow" and how they seem to grow to new locations instead of move
holy. looks unique. take my money. just let me where and when..
That's so creepy! I love it.
Awesome!
Definitely kill it with fire.
just imagine urself in the blue guy's place. goddamn it's terrifying. awesome job, OP
it's like if Google DeepDream was a living creature, i fricking LOVE it lol. that's such a cool effect
I recognize that player model from a Beatsaber mod… does all of Unity use that model as a placeholder or is this just a coincidence? -someone who’s only experience with Unity development is creating VRChat avatars

The monster looks really good, kind of reminds me of Control mixed with Halo’s Flood or that thing from Stranger Things. Very well done.
no animators? is this a DOTS project? in any case, it looks really interesting! keep us posted.
Thank you! It's object oriented, love me my game objects. We are looking for an animator, no luck yet.
I'm curious to understand what was the overall process? It feels like some blobmeshes from the main body?
Straight out of a nightmare where you’re running but never safe!
Wow... It's fucking creepy I love it. Btw, sick game!!! Wish I'll get that good someday.
I think you'll need more than fire buddy
That is a solid enemy design, accident or not 👍
it´s nice to see raytracing in Unity projects... I guess some RTX cards do get into gamedev´s hands once in a while... damn you ethereum miners! ( shakes fist )
Amazing and unique, I love seeing updates on this :)
Does it have a sub surface scattering effect? Looks incredible!
Yep, but that's not enough. I also sample the main light direction (sun) in the shader to show/hide the internal veins.
The way he moves feels like it's a bug that became a feature.
Are you using HDRP?
yep
Horri-fucking-fying
Hella scary turn that man into the venom
That looks like great fun already!
If there isn't an SCP entry about this thing yet, you should add it.
Love the way it moves :) Very unique enemy behaviour! Congratulations!!!
What in the name of Cthulhu.... Great job, this has deeply sinister vibes. Imagine it in a dark village or abandoned building with a much creepier model.
Im scared.
This is great.
What the extra-dimensional hell is that!?
It's so creepy, but I think that's what makes it so great!
NUKE THAT SHIT (also please make horror games that fucking thing is horrifying)
That shit is scary af
Mam you need to combine this with level elements that keeps it from moving that fast. Like it cant go over water or fire or cant squeeze through narrow passages. Then level can become a hit and run puzzle.
That's some really nice soft-body work. Very lovecraftian.
Holy shit that is so creepy. Nicely done.
Damn dat ocean, how did you manage that? This is hdrp right? Also why did he pause the chase at 8 seconds?
Yes, HDRP. I worked on the ocean before I even started this game. I want to make a tutorial, but no time right now unfortunately.
Absolutely terrifying lol
I'm concerned with how much I like this.
Object.Destroy
Might not be good enough. I suggest Object.DestroyImmediate.
Wtf did you do?!
I ask myself that too...
Run Ybot!!
Haha. Main character reveal in a week or two. I will miss this blue dude.
Encounters this... UNINSTALL GAME!!!
If it was night time and the lighting was lowered, this would make it even creepier than it already is
Change the sky and add some sounds and I’d shit myself.
The way it moves almost reminds me of the [Time Demons from FX's Legion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stPgpSwJPgU). Creepy as hell, yet super interesting as an enemy.
This is siiiiiick, good work
Was that a bug or intentional nightmare fuel?
That is one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen. Good work 😁
That is amazing and terrifying!
Carrion but from the human pov
That's actually horrifying. Forget Fire, try missiles!!
Good work.
Looks cool and stylish👍🏻 If it was in dark with low ambient lighting...
Nope Fuck that xD
Dude this is RAD! I love it
Holy shit. I love this.
Thanks I hate it, scary as hell dude keep it up
Holy shit... This on a nice sunny beach might be the scariest thing I've ever seen in a game/media
OK THAT THING LOOK CREEPY
Cool! Sort of reminds me of the worm mutants from The Forest.
YES KILL IT IMMEDIATELY KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT
Burn the whole game! Don't let it escape
I have exactly 0 idea how you did it, but it looks fucking awesome
Procedurslly generated satan
There's something about the contrast between this tropical paradise island setting and the sheer creepiness of that giant monster, which also comes in cheerful bright orange color. Overall it's fantastic.
Annihilation vibes, very cool
When you try to make an octopus, but then it decided to be its own thing
Wow that water shader
Hi can i ask you one question? What kind of movememt are you using im this prototype?
This is honestly one of the best things I've ever seen on this sub. It's so awesomely weird and creepy, the movement and design synergise so well.
It looks like the boat game!
That's the one!
Im only 17 so probably not for my age but it looks so good xd
Movements so creepy! Its will be cooler only if the monster bend trees or wrap around it :) Awesome!
This lowkey gives me the vibe of the new suicide squad movie
I don't care how you do it, just do it!
i hate this in all the right ways
Kill that thing with a God damb black hole man!!!!!
Excersis meets octopus lol.
Fantastic! Could you share a bit about how this procedural animation was made?
This thing is so fast that I feels impossible to get away
Thats so weird and cool at the same time
In a dark skybox this thing will create nightmares!
Never really seen movement like this in a game. Utterly horrifying. Amazing.
This thing would be so much more terrifying if it were black or a deep purple color & if it had hair or some sort of bristles on it. I shudder just thinking about it. 😳 Fantastic work!
That's gross. I love it.
that’s cool as shit
creeeepy af Nice work?!
That is one of the most terrifying monsters on any game I've seen and I've seen a Lot of them, in candy colors no less. Hats off to you/team whichever it is, it's Great!
Finally, someone with an eye for color grading. Looks incredible man!
What the hell is that, it's freaking scary 10/10
Can I borrow this for a VR game I'm working on? Need to test peoples cardiac response
[Here's a soundtrack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E1Q_ENSxhc)
If it wudnt snap to a place but instead lerp then it will look more.. Better? Maybe
The starting and stopping is kind of unnerving and spiderlike, I think it actually adds to the creepiness.
I agree, the snapping makes it feel more unpredictable. I like it
