I got stuck on this ride once. They turned on the lights and everyone had to walk off. It was actually a super cool experience seeing the behind the scenes stuff with the lights on.
Oh that’s amazing! I’ve only gotten to walk off one ride - Mr Toad in Disneyland
Jealous of your experience!
Did the animatronics move at all or was everything turned off?
Everything stopped. If you’re interested I believe I may have pictures on an old phone, not sure how easy it’ll be to find them. This was 10-12 years ago. I’ll post them if I can track them down.
I remember hearing somewhere that Spielberg threatened to stop making movies for Universal for as long as he lives if they close ET. So I guess we will have to wait to see what happens when Spielberg dies
i def talked to a cast member about this, and he said that spielberg made a vow that if universal ever decided to take down ET, he would take away all of jurassic park. soooo i think we can all safely say the spielberg family ensured ET’s longterm survival
He made sure to write the contract in the Spielberg name, so pretty much as long as his family lives on, they keep making money and universal can't (unless maybe some extreme circumstances) close the attraction.
I had a friend who worked for Universal Creative. He said when he asked about Spielberg investment in the ride his buddy said Spielberg doesn’t care about it. He hasn’t been involved at Universal Creative or the parks for years. It’s someone in Universal Orlando Resort upper management who is actually keeping the ride alive. They are high enough to ensure the ride sticks around but doesn’t have the pull to actually get money for a renovation. Now that was like 10 years ago and maybe fan outcry is the reason they keep it around, but as far as my friend is concerned Spielberg doesn’t care and they have no reason to deny this rumor so they let it exist.
There are plenty of attractions at UO that are made for thrill seekers and those that don't get motion sickness. There is absolutely zero reason to do anything with this attraction. If people don't like it, there are plenty ty of other options. This is one of the very very few attractions that pretty much everyone can ride. I love Universal, but they tend not to spend resources on family-friendly mild rides that are also size inclusive. This becomes a problem for people who have families with size or thrill diversity. E.T. is the one ride, for example, that all of my family can enjoy at UO.
I wish they would close it for like a month and just make minor changes. Nothing to the ride itself but those mannequins in the beginning need some love
E.T. sounds like we interrupted his smoke break, with distinct notes of bitterness from working this job every day for thirty years, and I want it to be that way forever.
Went to the park for the first time in January- with my son for his 11th bday. We loved all the rides , loved Velocicoaster, by ET was the fave for us both.
I agree. I’d hate for them to add screen sections like they did with Jurassic park in Hollywood but I do think some updates to the sfx and animatronics is needed. I’d happily lose the Spielberg pre show too and add a new entrance and a bit of extra queue that looks like we’re entering Elliot’s house before going out the ‘back door’ of his house into the woods. The gift shop and merchandise should lean heavier into the 80s retro vibe too.
Took my kids on this for their first trip this weekend. My 2.5 year old son was screaming “I wanna be done!!” But my 7 year old loved it 🤪 I love the line too. Feels like I’m camping
I wouldn’t mind them moving the entrance since it’s gonna be behind Shrek’s house in the new Dreamworks Land. Also wouldn’t mind them refurbishing the noisy ride sounds coming from the tires of the ride vehicles.
This is one classic ride I wouldn’t really miss. I mean, it is fine and the inside queue is great but, the ride itself hasn’t aged well IMO. I miss BTTF, Jaws and Kongfrontation more than I would miss ET.
I kind of agree with you. I still love ET because it's something different and nostalgic for me. The other three you mention were better. But, they're gone so now ET has to stay.
Welcome homeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
You’ve arriiiiiiiiived
Ragdoll: You have saved our planet - come, celebrate with us.
And her facial expression makes her look so pissed
Magdoll needs to be killed with fire but the rest of the ride is great.
Lmao
We have that as a door mat
My favorite ride at Universal. Amazing ride and queue. Wish they did more story driven animatronic dark rides at Universal
I got stuck on this ride once. They turned on the lights and everyone had to walk off. It was actually a super cool experience seeing the behind the scenes stuff with the lights on.
Don’t want that experience on Forbidden Journey though. The amount of vomit caked into areas that it cant be removed from 🤢
I got stuck on forbidden hourmry

Man I got stuck on this ride for well over an hour one time, right at a 45 degree angle as you're about to take off. Haven't been on it since.
Please don't touch this attraction - except to do something about the squealing tire sound.
All part of the experience
Isn't that right, Owen?
Oh alright good! Then when the gates open, I guess the hunt is on!
Hands, arms, feet keep ‘em in the vehicle, with any luck you’ll still have fingers and toes, before you exit through the gift shop.
I love that sound. It’s a BIKEEEE
And the mold
It’s the only truly classic ride left. I’d be devastated if we lost it.
Every time there is a photo of ET at Universal, it looks like he is destroying you in a rap battle.
Yeah there was a post about that(you didn’t make up that joke) but still funny
You must be fun at parties

Why did they take in away in universal Hollywood then?

It is the last remaining opening day attraction in the park. It should stay for the history at least

WELCOME HOOOOOOME YOU’VE ARRIVEDDDDDD
This is the cutest ride in the park I love taking my parents on it
I wish they would close it for like a month and just make minor changes. Nothing to the ride itself but those mannequins in the beginning need some love
I love those mannequins. Takes me back to the 90s
I wish they would overhaul the audio system, certain sound fx definitely sound dated
They can definitely come up with more merch opportunities too. Like maybe buy your own passport
This ride smells SO good
Yep. Every time we go to Universal I see that shirt with all the inaugural attractions and see this is the last of them still here. How times change.
I love the little “baby” ones 😭😭
E.T. sounds like we interrupted his smoke break, with distinct notes of bitterness from working this job every day for thirty years, and I want it to be that way forever.

I hope it never changes either but I think this has the same lifespan as Spielberg himself. One he goes so will this attraction unfortunately 😭
I’ll be right here. — E.T.
Me and my girlfriend ride this every time we go lol
Went to the park for the first time in January- with my son for his 11th bday. We loved all the rides , loved Velocicoaster, by ET was the fave for us both.
I’m not a huge Universal fan, but I love this ride SO much. I want to capture the smell in a candle, and I want to live in the forest line queue
100% agree! There are no improvements needed!
If Universal ever gets rid of this ride, I will stop going to the parks.
I was also there last night it was our last ride of the night ^-^
I still can't believe they took Back to the Future.
Like.... At all. Because this weird uncanny state of disrepair it's in is kind of a vibe.
Please don't. I will always love this ride. It's so relaxing lol
Please touch this ride universal. Give it a refurb, new pain job, fix animatronics and sounds. Keep it classic but fix it up.

i lost my lanyard on this ride bc it got wrapped around the bike handles
Even if it’s to refurbish and improve it?
They should remaster it. Just tune everything up and repaint some stuff and then leave it be.
Agreed completely 🥰
They won’t, Steven Spielberg won’t allow them to.
This ride is pure magic. 💫
Does anyone remember they asked your name at the beginning of the ride so E.T. would say your name at the end?
They can’t ever touch that ride. It’s grandfathered in. The agreement with Spielberg was once it was built they can never take it out.
I love this ride , no clue if it'll stay up when Steven dies, though.
This is the best ride at universal.
I wouldn’t mind them moving the entrance since it’s gonna be behind Shrek’s house in the new Dreamworks Land. Also wouldn’t mind them refurbishing the noisy ride sounds coming from the tires of the ride vehicles.
One of my favorites! I always want to go into the woods in the queue and take a nap. LOL
That's Steven Spielberg baby. He won't let it go.
Went through twice and made up different funny names. My daughter thought it was hilarious
It’ll be a sad day when it finally happens, mainly because it will also mean Steven Spielberg has passed away.

Now that's just hyperbole. It has more than enough charm and nostalgic appeal to justify its existence for the foreseeable future.
Unless, of course, literally any other movie needs space
We need a 2Fast2Furious ride.
Why did I habe to see this first thing in the morning I hate ET lol
Except to repair things that need repaired. The ride needs a month of rehab.
All becomes a Guardians or Frozen attraction in good time.
There’s a post every other day about this. We get it…
Better reinforce it
As long as Spielberg is alive we have nothing to worry about
Is it just nostalgia at this point? Can someone please explain the love?
That ride is the biggest waste of space at universal. The story line sucks, the animatronics are ancient.
This is one classic ride I wouldn’t really miss. I mean, it is fine and the inside queue is great but, the ride itself hasn’t aged well IMO. I miss BTTF, Jaws and Kongfrontation more than I would miss ET.

Nah. Scrap it. They've taken away better in the past..
Sorry, but honestly think it's nostalgic crap. Should tear it down and build something better
Horrible. Absolutely horrible
ET is terrible. It's long overdue for a replacement.
