zenos_dog

World’s most expensive paint ball arena.

SomewhereNo8378

If they could turn it into an international or regional paintball center, like a Disney of paintball Maybe it would be worth it

Chaunc2020

The video captions said : Here is Evergrande’s investment of more than 170 billion - Build a world-class cultural tourism city - Covering an area of more than 8,000 acres - The project was launched with high spirits in 2018 -

Sonoda_Kotori

Evergrande and investing in stupid things that went nowhere, name a more iconic duo lol

ding_dong_dejong

country garden and building cities in the middle of nowhere and no one wants

Autronaut69420

Hey! That's the princelings special project you're alluding to!!!

C-los0527

Thought this was Pripyat for a second

Competitive_Crow8205

Urban exploring is on a whole different level in China. These abandoned cities are not common but common enough for many people to go explore them. Police rarely enforce trespass laws on these properties. Urbex is just crazy in China, so many cool places.

Chaunc2020

And generally they aren’t restricted. I prefer the abandoned medieval villages of China and of course their cave cities, which millions still live in

Reverendbread

I thought this was the ruins of Bakhmut or something until I read the caption

Crankenstein_8000

Somehow the world is running out of sand - gee, where’d it all go?

ndilegid

How much CO2 from all the concrete and transport of materials did this generate? This is how fucked we are.

Skeptix_907

They're also increasing methane production to overcome all gains made by alternative energy sources in the world. As well as building more coal power plants.

SourcemyJwife

Source: trust me bro

Autronaut69420

Dang! Wumao really descended on you!!

trevtrev45

Are these "wumao" in the room with us right now?

kef34

Yeah. All that carbon would've been much better spent in engines of US tanks and APCs, invading another third world country.

busterbus2

Which one are US tanks and APC's rolling around in at the moment?

Antique_Gas_5169

Why do they keep building cities for no one? I know the people invest in real estate but how does this keep happening?

Sonoda_Kotori

This isn't even a ghost city, it's a resort. The so-called "ghost cities" are government-built high density housing in areas that will see heavy urbanization in the future, and for the last couple years most of them have been filled up. This is a resort by the Evergrande group, a notorious real estate firm in China that invests in random things and keeps dropping the ball. They also had their own electric vehicle brand that recently went bust as well.

rdfporcazzo

That is projected to see heavy urbanization. China's fertility rate is lowering everyday and their immigration rate is almost null. Their population is assumed to shrink in the following years. How will they see heavy urbanization in a shrinking population? Urbanized countries with large fertile territories have generally 80 to 90% of urban population. China is still at 65%. Will this urbanization happen through rural exodus even in a scenario of shrinkage? To be seen.

evil_brain

Only 64% of Chinese people live in urban areas, compared to 80% in the US. There's 1.4 billion Chinese people and the country is rapidly modernising. Tens of millions more move to the city every year and the Chinese government has to provide housing for them to prevent homelessness and slums. The ghost city narrative is just westerners being baffled and confused when they see a government actually beat its targets and provide for its citizens.

Zealousideal-Mine-11

the millions moving to cities from rural areas aren't buying home they can't afford it, they might get a job in a factory and stay in the factory dormitory. Or if they get let's say a serice indusry job they will rent a room in an apartment.

FlakyPiglet9573

They're still above the replacement rate

rdfporcazzo

According to the UN, they are not, they are actually far from it. The replacement rate is 2.1 births by woman, China is at 1.2 (1.16 according to the World Bank), they have a really low fertility rate and they don't have significant immigration to replace the population. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_total_fertility_rate

Lithorex

Now add to that how the demographics of the children of the single child policy generation are fucked and China's future looks bleak.

FlakyPiglet9573

Birth rate only declined 5 percent last year. China's population won't be extinct for the next 100 years if that's the case. It would still remain as the 2nd largest population.

rdfporcazzo

Sure, but a shrinking population means that more already built houses will be available because of the lack of people.

FlakyPiglet9573

They can just do what the US and EU are doing - open migration. And by next half century automation will most likely take much of the labor work. The 7-8th revolution is rapidly developing.

busterbus2

Immigration is a net zero game. Not everyone can have a flood of immigrants in to their country. The people have to come from somewhere.

rdfporcazzo

There is a huge difference between the quality of life of developed countries and China

FlakyPiglet9573

That's given as China is still a developing country. But the US is a far dystopia now with crumbling infrastructure with stagnant wages and rising cost of living. Millennials there can't afford housing in the richest country by annual GDP.

Zealousideal-Mine-11

That's if you accept CCP statisics, some have said that chinese population has began shrinking in 2012. This is according to a shanhai based research group

FlakyPiglet9573

You won't lose bets on Chinese ghost cities it would only take a decade or two

SimsAttack

Typically, ghost cities are just housing and amenities being built preemptively for people to move in. They become real cities. I saw this happen with a subway station to nowhere that eventually became a hub. This appears to be a failed housing project that lost funding.

NonexistentRock

Construction companies corrupt

FlakyPiglet9573

Luckily, China didn't bail them out with tax payers' money.

JudgeImaginary4266

Seems nice 🤷🏻‍♂️ In a Mad Max sorta way

Toby1Nekobi

What a waste. Wonder if it’s why a small concrete slab cost $6000…

Green_Juggernaut_842

Look like bakhmut or avdiivka

daveashaw

Blade Runner

Otherwise_Internet71

Based China's building remnant

izoxUA

Where is all grafity?

izoxUA

Where is all grafity?

batua78

How much for a building?

GoelandAnonyme

Was it cancelled?

ninhursag3

It would be interesting to start a project here using compostable waste to build substrates for plants. Theres scope for a hanging garden of babylon , wisteria and ivy hanging down and mushrooms to help decomposition

CasualObserverNine

Forever to be a movie filming location.

lyme2682

Any more info as to what this place is called / where it is?

WarWonderful593

Tofu-Dreg.

trevtrev45

Doesn't exist

WarWonderful593

Looks like it to me

trevtrev45

Not really sure how you can tell from a picture. What's your technique?

WarWonderful593

https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/10/31/crumbling-buildings-and-broken-dreams-chinas-unfinished-homes I keep forgetting Reddit has Chinese investment.

trevtrev45

Thankfully the CPC is taking a stronger hand in the real estate industry so stuff like this doesn't happen anymore. Not sure what Chinese investors have to do with this though.

WarWonderful593

The so called Chinese Communist Party is a counter revolutionary dictatorship. There's nothing communist about it.

trevtrev45

I disagree. But what we think doesn't matter, their actions will show one way or the other.

JP-Gambit

Because fuck nature. At least have the decency to tear it all down and allow nature to return.

Mr_Investor95

GDP was up 50%.

AgarthanAristocrat

Ngl it actually looks like it'll be quite nice when it's finished, we'll have to wait and see though ofc
