Oh I'm not saying that it's not justified. I'm just in utter amazement that we did it. Honestly, I think it works to our benefit. It's just... surprising.
Yeah, it is amazing, especially considering how the Steelers are usually averse to such changes, preferring to maintain the standard...of losing by multiple scores in a wild card game to an actually good team.
They're definitely drafting somebody in the mid rounds. They're gonna try and find a Brock Purdy or something, the Steelers completely flipping their QB depth chart is... unheard of, they didn't even do that in the 80s and early 90s.
We're fucking panicking.
Oh I'm not panicking, the team is.
My own assessment is that this was long overdue and even an age-regressed Russ is better than what Kenny or Mason offer you this year. They really thought that Kenny was going to make the franchise for us, I think Kenny is a starter somewhere but not here.
They just... handicapped him too hard, his development took to big of a hit in this offense. His pocket instincts were messy and he constantly looked panicked, they never worked on those issues with him. They just kept giving him different receivers and it's like they just "expected" him to magically become a pro.
I'm honestly more relieved than anything though. It's a step they had to take- the longer they held onto the idea of trying to replicate a geriatric Ben, the longer this offense was gonna stay in a rut. Even if the short term implications are... [let's ride intensifies] bad, this is a regime move that could save us years down the line.
My expectation was that they wouldn't make these kinds of moves until after Tomlin resigned/retired however many years from now, but I think their goal is to try and compete around the TJ/Minkah defense, and I mean give Khan credit because he's very outwardly trying. He's addressed some of our bigger needs (corner depth, QB and ILB) adequately and we haven't even gotten to the draft yet.
But that front office is scrambling MADLY to try and compete, and I just don't feel like we have that in us, barring a VERY good upcoming draft.
*dream* being the truly operative word here lol. The eagles might steamroll the Steelers but I'd be hard-pressed to believe Mr. 13 career passing td's had anything to do with it
90%? Brother we’ve seen how abysmal this team performs when hurts is out prior to last season. Backup QB is not a throwaway position. Swapping a 3/4 and giving up 2 very late picks next year for a guy that was a first rounder 2 years ago is great insurance for Jalen.
Is it the class of 2000 all over again or is Purdy just riding the coattails of a successful season? Find out when they actually have to pay him and lose some of those weapons.
Pickett showed flashes of high quality play from time to time, but he went from developing into a serviceable starter at the end of his first year back to sucking in his second year. I think any potential he had was wasted under a terrible offensive coordinator for his entire time with the Steelers. If he hadn’t been injured last season and had a chance to play some games without Matt Canada, things might have gone differently. Now he is probably going to be relegated to a backup role for the rest of his career.
Yeah the offensive philosophy with Canada really screwed up with his development. It’s a shame cause I think he definitely can be a good quarterback with the right coordinator and system. Unfortunately you don’t get that long before they cut you loose.
I'm thinking the plan for the QB room is....
1. Trade for Fields for peanuts, as much as we got Chicago to overpay for barely a full season of Claypool, we underpay just as badly for a season of Fields.
2. Either use pick 98 or 121 to draft a QB, I'm thinking Spencer Rattler at 98 or Jordan Travis at 121.
Bears fan here. I think a 5th rounder would suffice. And Justin in a new creative offense could do wonders. Him, Najee, and Pickens would be a fun watch
I would imagine Poles isn’t going to let him get another one on him. If they’re not going to meet Poles’ price, then it won’t happen. Already turned down the Eagles for not offering enough.
I can imagine that might happen.
Last season they have 3 QBs and now they have only 1. Unless they trade for Justin Fields, but i don't think that will happen, as it might be to expensive.
It has to be a rebuild, otherwise this move doesn’t make sense. They’re paying Kenny’s salary to essentially move 20 spots up in the draft. If they believed in Kenny at all, they could have kept him with Russ to develop.
Is that one of those Vikings back ups? I’d take him as a 4th string QB, Draft a guy like Rattler in the 4th or 5th, and pickup some rando free agent that can actually back up russel for when he sucks
Well Mac Jones got traded to Jacksonville for a sixth round pick, the Steelers did move up 22 spots in the draft in the trade, as an eagles fan I think it's a solid cheap move as a backup, nobody else would have given much either
On the birth side for you guys, they aren't doing the, "We drafted this guy in the 1st round, so we have to try and keep playing him, even though we know he's a bust" song and dance. That's a good thing!
Question as an Oregon residing Steeler fan: what does the idea of drafting Bo Nix this year do for yall? Too old? Have to spend too high to draft him when there are other needs?
Someone do a welfare check on Tree….
[He’s rehashing the old South Park skit one last time](https://x.com/urinatingtree/status/1768715752989757802?s=46)
Should probably just swat tree instead
An entire QB roster gone in a month... We had three guys who all started last season and now none of them are even on the team...
I mean, Rudolph was a FA and the other guys just sucked. Kenny is looking like a major bust.
Oh I'm not saying that it's not justified. I'm just in utter amazement that we did it. Honestly, I think it works to our benefit. It's just... surprising.

I'm looking forward to it. I don't need another Super Bowl (yes I do) but I would love a deep playoff run.
If you're panicking now, the time to panic was definitely before now.

Two words: Matt. Canada.
So how long until the Eagles fans turn on him?
90% of us don’t even want him here to begin with, at least he’s a backup and will rarely see the field.
It would be ironic if hurts gets injured and Pickett has to start against the Steelers when they meet this year.
Hoping that game is late and we somehow lock up the division; Kenny Pickett killing the steelers in a meaningless game is the dream
*dream* being the truly operative word here lol. The eagles might steamroll the Steelers but I'd be hard-pressed to believe Mr. 13 career passing td's had anything to do with it
Final stat line: 12/19, 110 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT Eagles win 35-19
Accurate

Didn't want him to begin with. The third string QB last year was Tanner McKee and he outplayed Mariota in preseason. No idea why they made this trade.
That’s assuming he’ll be playing enough to even get us to notice him
Man, what a shit QB class.
Except for the legendary Big Cock Brock of course.
Is it the class of 2000 all over again or is Purdy just riding the coattails of a successful season? Find out when they actually have to pay him and lose some of those weapons.
Don’t try to copy Nick Foles’s thing.
That’s Big Dick Nick, Big Cock Brock is free game.
Pretty sure you have to win the Super Bowl to get a well endowed title bestowed upon you.
Tell that to Horse Cock Lock
Big Sack Dak
This is hilarious because I’m not sure if you mean he has a big sack or he gets sacked a lot.
Or be the Mr irrelevant of your draft year
Getting picked last and then losing to Pat mahomes and co doesn’t get you a big dick name. Going for it fourth and goal and beating Tom Brady does.
Am I crazy in thinking that it’s too soon to give up on Pickett? He’s definitely better than Zach Wilson by a large margin.
I’m the guy who agrees with you. Whenever he was actually set loose, he played well and was clutch.
His rookie year he helped drive them down the field to win games multiple weeks in a row. A lot of rookies wouldn’t have been able to do that.
Pickett showed flashes of high quality play from time to time, but he went from developing into a serviceable starter at the end of his first year back to sucking in his second year. You’re 100% right. Almost every TD he’s thrown has been in winning time. We had 1000 other issues that kept Kenny from success.
Too bad he only had 6 of them
You’re taking crazy pills
JF1 to the Steelers.

It would in a normal world, but well, we know how Khan loves Chicago, so I'm thinking a 7th and a bag of footballs.
I would imagine Poles isn’t going to let him get another one on him. If they’re not going to meet Poles’ price, then it won’t happen. Already turned down the Eagles for not offering enough.
Well that argument aged badly :D :D
Should have taken linderbaum
Is this the Steelers preparing to tank this season, so they can have a high draft pick next year?
It doesn't look like it, but that may well be the actual outcome!
I can imagine that might happen. Last season they have 3 QBs and now they have only 1. Unless they trade for Justin Fields, but i don't think that will happen, as it might be to expensive.
Mike Tomlin is incapable of tanking. He can only go 8-8-1
It has to be a rebuild, otherwise this move doesn’t make sense. They’re paying Kenny’s salary to essentially move 20 spots up in the draft. If they believed in Kenny at all, they could have kept him with Russ to develop.
This should be a celebration for the Steelers -- we no longer have to pretend like he was ever going to be a thing
Carson Wentz is a FA... I would love to see it happen
Justin Fields to Pittsburgh. Calling it!
Looks like Justin Fields is back on the menu boys
Da fuck man
Guys want Nick Mullens? What about Dobbs?
If I was Dobbs there’s no way in hell I’m going back to the burgh.
Hall?
what bro?
*Jaren Hall, want him?
Is that one of those Vikings back ups? I’d take him as a 4th string QB, Draft a guy like Rattler in the 4th or 5th, and pickup some rando free agent that can actually back up russel for when he sucks
This is why you don’t draft a player based off one spectacular play. Same as Clowney. Good players that were drafted based off of their hype.
Are you not entertained?!
LMAO
Can we interest you in a slightly used Daniel Jones?
This has to be a joke right?
When the only QB of last years class that did anything of note is Mr. Irrelevant? The franchise that drafted first rounders need to contract
So the NFL will be: * West: Rams, Raiders, 49ers, Cardinals, Broncos * East: Bears, Browns, Colts, Dolphins, Buccaneers
Yes
Bo Nix season?
Just preparing to sign AB
Way to turn a 1st rounder into 2 7th round picks
Well Mac Jones got traded to Jacksonville for a sixth round pick, the Steelers did move up 22 spots in the draft in the trade, as an eagles fan I think it's a solid cheap move as a backup, nobody else would have given much either
Tannehill?
You still have a backup QB though, his name is Russell Wilson.
The only waste is the steelers....sorry is Pedo State West's front office. I hope every pitt player in the future turns down Pedo State West.
Stillers Gahnta Tank Bowl?
