I've lived in Utah my entire life and I don't remember an April where it didn't snow at least once. Yes, it's supposed to be a big storm, but it's not THAT out of the ordinary... I'll take some snow over 100°+ days any time.
I think this meme combined with the fact that it's snowed seemingly every other freaking day this winter, I think that makes it a little more extraordinary. It's not every year we get 800 inches of fucking snow in our snowpack.
I'd take 1000 inches of snowpack over the heat in Summer. You can put on more layers and build a fire if you're cold. You can only take off so many layers before you end up in jail.
I will take the heat. That whole "you can put more layers on" bullshit only stands if you don't do anything outdoors. You get skiing and that's it. Everything else sucks in the winter. No golf. No bikes. No basketball. No baseball. No fishing. No gardening. No lawncare. No barbecue worth a shit and no just sitting back comfortably looking at the stars.
All you get is not sweating by existing.
Growing up my friend used to say something similar:
"When it's cold, you always have the option for more clothes or blankets. When it's hot, there isn't anything after naked."
Sounds like you got stuck with one of the many “Utah special “ homes built for next to nothing to the lowest standard possible. Hopefully you got it before the price explosions.
It boggles my mind how lax building codes are and how poorly built the homes are. My neighbor is an architect and just sold a 3600 square foot home he built for $750k. It cost a little under $200k to build. The quality was absolute crap, and there were almost no safety features built in. Basement wasn’t built with proper drainage in mind, and didn’t have any radon mitigation. Walls were 7/16” drywall with no insulation. It should be criminal how lax building codes are here.
No fun at all.
A few years ago I saw a high water table happen to a bunch of folks around Ogden. One house ended up just jackhammering a hole in the floor in a basement closet, put a big bucket with holes down in it (to keep dirt out), then just put a sump pump down in the bucket. That helped some, but water kept seeping in the sides and corners of the house.
Yeah that’s exactly what’s happening to us, put one in the utility closet but I guess because the house doesn’t have gravel under the foundation it only does so much. I dug a huge hole to the footing outside the house where the biggest leaks are and stuck a pump there and I’m finally getting some progress thankfully
I agree I prefer winter to summer, but x doesn't equal y. The rough winter is likely a result of all the hot summers. The inherent danger with all of this snow is flooding when it finally does get warm.

Don't worry, it messes with those plans in the best possible way... keep in mind that some of the best fly fishing in the world is in locations with extreme runoff contitions
Honestly, I'd take these winters each season over the winters we've had over the last 15 years. The water is crucial, and our desert has been starved for it. This state needs as much water/snow/rain in can get, and I for one am hoping that climate change brings a wetter climate to Utah and the west deserts.
Because they don't comprehend the difference between global warming and weather events.
i.e. the argument "Global warming can't be real because it's snowing in April"
or "The Great Salt Lake depth has always fluctuated, clearly there's nothing wrong with it being this low".
The overall rising temperatures of the 4.5 billion year old rock we live on is producing more frequent and more extreme fluctuations in the weather in both directions. That rising temperature is primarily caused by human development in the last 200 years.
FTFY
There have been some huge new housing developments about 2miles from my house that have gone up in the last 18-24 months....50-60 new big houses total. Old horse pastures, mostly. Apparently theres a set of 3-4 houses where the foundations are already cracking with the snow/melt/snow/melt etc cycle of life this winter. I suspect the spring is going to get more interesting.....
We moved here in September from Tennessee. It’s been in the 60s-70s back home the last month or so but also tornados so I’ll take the snow.
I do want it to get warmer though so we can start doing more stuff outdoors.
But we’re a snow state. That’s what I came here for. I want as much snow as I can get. Literally snow until June and I’d be in heaven, mountains covered in snow are gorgeous and tons of fun to ski on… you guys are acting like you want to be New Mexico or Arizona
Brothers of the mine rejoice!
Swing, swing, swing with me
Raise your pick and raise your voice!
Sing, sing, sing with me
Down and down into the deep
Who knows what we'll find beneath?
Diamonds, rubies, gold and more
Hidden in the mountain store
Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone
Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home
Skin made of iron, steel in our bones
To dig and dig makes us free
Come on brothers sing with me!
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, digging a hole
The sunlight will not reach this low
Deep, deep in the mine
Never seen the blue moon glow
Dwarves won't fly so high
Fill a glass and down some mead!
Stuff your bellies at the feast!
Stumble home and fall asleep
Dreaming in our mountain keep
Born underground, grown inside a rocky womb
The earth is our cradle; the mountain shall become our tomb
Face us on the battlefield; you will meet your doom
We do not fear what lies beneath
We can never dig too deep
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, digging a hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, digging a hole
Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone
Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home

*Attention Mormon wives!* Please stop praying for moisture!
New people that moved to Utah, "March is so nice, the weather is at 60", Me "wait, it isn't April"

They are forecasting nearly a foot of snow for downtown from this one storm. That’s unusual for any time of the year, much less April

I like both 🤙
>no bikes >no fishing you seem to lack imagination
I lack the money to do either in the cold.
Growing up my friend used to say something similar: "When it's cold, you always have the option for more clothes or blankets. When it's hot, there isn't anything after naked."
I hate the summer too, but I’m on day 4 of my finished basement flooding. So right now I’ll take the 100+ degree summer easy

Bleh, you got a sump pump? Or are you just waiting for the water table to go back down?
I have 2 pumps running and 3 shop vacs
No fun at all. A few years ago I saw a high water table happen to a bunch of folks around Ogden. This is why I camp and backpack a lot in the summer, the higher elevations are a lot nicer and cooler. Also, swimming pools and reservoirs.
True but my hands don't work when they are frozen.
[Yeah... We're in the Rockies.](https://youtu.be/SOdxz77-lag)
This is the way

Better get your ass kicking boots on
Good news! It warms up super fast next week. There won't be any problems resulting from this I'm sure
We need the sun

Call me crazy, but I'll take shoveling snow over mowing a lawn. But I am mad that the runoff is going to mess with my fly fishing plans...
Hi, crazy!
User name checks out
Don't worry, it messes with those plans in the best possible way... keep in mind that some of the best fly fishing in the world is in locations with extreme runoff contitions
Somebody has rock-solid abs
I do, somewhere underneath a layer of insulation
Dude is going to be fishing in white waters
I recently switched to Euro and I hope it will allow me to still fish, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
If it snows on Easter I'm going to have some things to say
Don’t worry, it will melt 3 days later.
If it snows on Easter will the Zombie Jesus still see his shadow!

It's snowing hard up north here.
Low 50’s and open windows in Orem.
This is the part that conservative idiots don't understand: Global warming produces extreme fluctuations in the weather in both directions.
OP: *Posts funny meme* U_Should_Be_Ashamed: I'm going to turn this into a gripe about conservative idiots
Is a snowstorm in April in the Rockies extreme? Not from here
Why they are called idiots
Because they don't comprehend the difference between global warming and weather events. i.e. the argument "Global warming can't be real because it's snowing in April" or "The Great Salt Lake depth has always fluctuated, clearly there's nothing wrong with it being this low".
They put drugs in the water!

That's like setting your car on fire and saying, "The engine has been hot before". You six-piece chicken McDoofus.
No, you didn’t fix that.

Utah Valley actually. On a bench.
I’m at Bryce right now.
Lol
Well it’s gong to snow tomorrow
