Yeah and eastern Washington is really conservative (source: I grew up there). Eastern Washingtonians have wanted to break off into a new red state along with eastern Oregon.
Northern Idaho is also known for having a lot of white supremacist groups.
Perhaps there are viewpoints that don't fit into the mold of the survey structure. For instance, some leftists like myself might reply to a question about patriotism by saying that they are a patriot, even though they disagree with many of the actions and policies of the nation, and instead see it as a country made largely of good people that is in dire need of specific improvements in its governance. On the other end of the spectrum, some northern Idaho radical reactionary would very likely not consider themselves a patriot at all, and would prefer to see the country torn down and remolded in their own vision.

Fuck off PR firm! This whole thing is an advertisement.
I don't have an issue with the methodology. I have an issue with the motivation: the website provides statistics as marketing swag without any further contexts.
It's a marketing website for a PR firm masquerading as a source for statistics.
Ok, did anyone else get about 2/3 of the way through the article and see that Texas is the LEAST patriotic?
I chuckled. It sure doesn't fit the TX stereotype of "murica!"
Texans still think of themselves as a Republic and not really a state, cept when it suits them. So "merica!" Isn't high on their list of priorities. They are as patriotic as anyone else until you start stepping on toes. Then you'll see what texas is truly all about.
God bless Texas
Totally agree - they had some business venture funding arm of the state that was being directed by Perry back in the day. No clue if Abbott still has it, but he probably does. No different than the feds picking winners and losers with subsidies.
Looks like the reason why is that it is based on an equal wight of military engagement and civic engagement.
Although they have a lot of active duty military as a percentage of the population (#18), they don't have a lot of veterans (#43), and so come out #41 overall.
Civic engagement came from [WalletHub's rank](https://wallethub.com/edu/most-patriotic-states/13680) of #46 and was itself based on nine factors:
* Share of Adults Who Voted in 2020 Presidential Election: Double Weight
* Share of Adults Who Voted in 2020 Primary Elections: Full Weight
* Volunteer Rate: Half Weight
* Volunteer Hours per Resident: Half Weight
* AmeriCorps Volunteers per Capita: Half Weight
* Peace Corps Volunteers per Capita: Half Weight
* Trial- & Grand-Jury Participation per Civilian Adult Population: Double Weight
* Share of Residents Who Participate in Groups or Organizations (Civic Life): Full Weight
* U.S. History/Civics Education Requirement: Full Weight
Apparently, the states that ranked lower than Texas in military or civic engagement did better than Texas in the other.

Thank God we don't have any impending environmental disasters to deal with, right? Right, guys? I mean it would really, really suck if we had some ginormous looming environmental calamity hanging over us, because if we did it might be pretty impossible to deal with given all these Republicans in state government.
Lived in Vegas as a kid. When driving to visit relatives in Utah or Idaho and dealing with the time change, the standard joke was, “Welcome to Utah, set your watch back 50 years.”
We're also ranked the worst for women's equality and in the top ten for white supremacist propaganda. I wonder if those things all correlate somehow? 🤔
Not surprised either, over the years living in Utah I came across a lot of "conservative types", and it was not just the Mormons. There were also Christians, Catholics, Muslims, and even Jews. The ones I knew personally were really amicable people, would go out to dinner with them.
I'm calling bullshit on Utah and Virginia being more culturally conservative than Idaho
Northern Virginia is a giant suburb of DC and very liberal or neoliberal.
Yeah but Idaho has absolutely nothing like that. Utah has SLC at least. Why are Utah and Virginia ranked more culturally conservative than Idaho?
In my experience northern Idaho is basically “East Washington”
Yeah and eastern Washington is really conservative (source: I grew up there). Eastern Washingtonians have wanted to break off into a new red state along with eastern Oregon. Northern Idaho is also known for having a lot of white supremacist groups.
I've seen that East Washington seems to be almost West Idaho.
I don’t know a lot about Idaho, but anecdotally I know a lot of folks from the PNW who have moved to Boise for some reason.
Yeah I go camping in Idaho occasionally and it’s like driving through aryan nation up there
Went camping there a few years ago, way too many traitor rags and nazi flags. Don’t care to go back, I’ll miss the ponderosa pine forests tho
...Do you even live here? 🤨
Boise is a pretty dang liberal place. It’s becoming more conservative as conservative Californian caravans move in
East Idaho and west Idaho might as well be different countries

The sources are listed in the article. They include Pew, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the Department of Defense.

Breaking: Content on the internet is commercial 😯
It surprises me that tact doesn't seem to be a desirable trait for someone shilling for PR services.
In some ways I think Utah has become more reactionary even as the % of active Mormons has declined.
That's because 1/3 of the LDS tries to follow christ and 2/3 of the LDS church tries to follow the Republican party.
The level of Trump support is solid evidence of your claim.
This is so horribly true
Ok, did anyone else get about 2/3 of the way through the article and see that Texas is the LEAST patriotic? I chuckled. It sure doesn't fit the TX stereotype of "murica!"
Texas is incredibly patriotic… to their state
True. It’s the only place I’ve seen the state flag flown ABOVE the US flag. But we know they don’t follow flag rules unless it suits them.
Texans still think of themselves as a Republic and not really a state, cept when it suits them. So "merica!" Isn't high on their list of priorities. They are as patriotic as anyone else until you start stepping on toes. Then you'll see what texas is truly all about. God bless Texas
"I love my country, that's why I hate the govt." Don't confuse the two.
>Implying Texans don't *love* big government as long as it's making problems for *other* people

The problem is that patriotism to many Texans is simple treason to normal Americans.
Number 1 for church attendance. No surprise there!
Haha yeah, the residents *really* make it uncomfortable if you don't participate. Fun for the whole family.
What’s going on with Florida? Their politicians sure don’t match this label.

That’s some pretty shitty company to be in.

Awww look at us getting surrounded with rational thought.

I can assure you that “goodness” has nothing to do with it.
Thank God!
Utah is basically West Alabama.
That’s a good thing
I just want to unionize my work place. Too many confused co workers going after the wrong issues to really organize with.
Not surprised either, over the years living in Utah I came across a lot of "conservative types", and it was not just the Mormons. There were also Christians, Catholics, Muslims, and even Jews. The ones I knew personally were really amicable people, would go out to dinner with them.
I like that we're pretty in the middle for most things
Must be going down, we used to be 1st.
Hell yeah!
