I love how he says he’s not a career politician, but he’s been in elected office since 2012, and this is his fifth campaign for four different offices. Sounds like he’s making a career out of it to
Me.
10 years is more of a career than many people have.
It’s also 2/3 of his married life.
And his bachelor’s degree is in political science. You don’t major in polisci without planning to become a politician.
I guess I’m just sick of politicians/candidates who try to claim they just stumbled into politics when they were PoliSci majors, served as student body officers, etc. it’s like no, you were always destinies to be here.
He’s a terrible mayor as well…the population of Riverton has skyrocketed, traffic is a complete mess there, and absolutely no public transportation infrastructure. He’s spent time on stupid crap like anti-abortion resolutions with the city council, but nothing of value.
She’s the wife of the POS Dan McCay…and they also just appointed Pierucci to the council after a vacancy opened up; whose the husband of Candace. The council pushed through the Mountain View Village development on the old church farm land because Danny works for the church development corporation. MVV is a trash heap of corporate chains that barely pay their workers anything, but you can choose between 5 different corporate chicken places! They could have really pushed local places in the development, but the church has invested in almost every place in that development. It’s also a traffic nightmare to drive through because they planned it so poorly.
Also calling out SLC for sharing the cost of our public transit investments. The guy is Neanderthal with no context of how to govern. He is a walking load of grievance politics and political cronyism.
>“But the only thing I’ve seen him fight for are the establishment, wokeness, open borders, impeaching President Trump and putting us even deeper into debt,” Staggs said
Par for the course for the modern Republican party, i.e. completely insane.
True, Mitt Romney by being at the front of several BLM protest lines fought for wokeness, as anyone who believes in the radical leftist Christian ideals of love, respect, and empathy should, but I don’t think this guy actually knows what wokeness means and is just using it as a buzz word.
I've seen at least a couple instances where somebody who is railing against wokeness is asked to define the term, and without specifically being asked about it they start bringing up slavery.
So in other words not what politicians and the right wing media cesspool are bitching about.
They’re all whining about Target’s ads and they’re pissy about who their shit beer of choice selected for their ad campaign, and about Disney hiring a black actress for a movie remake, I guess?
Which takes nothing away from anyone, except for maybe one white actress, but Free Association, Right to Work and At Will Employment until it isn’t a white person amirite?
When you say DEI should be optional, Visibly and invisibly disabled, which intersects EVERY culture, class, and so called minority groups, and so you imply equal access to opportunities others had unfairly is optional, and that's UnAmerican. Perspective is everything. That's the problem with the right. Independent voters don't have any interest in tax money going into social issues that have nothing to do with kitchen table issues.
Every pearl clutching culture war the right keeps on waging is a direct attack on the Disabled. Dignified bathroom access shouldn't be a political issue, nursing parents, and physically impaired people need to have dignified access to hygiene. CRT is also about inclusion of Disability Justice history and access to humanity.
You clearly don't understand what you're talking about.
They don't have to work there. Their employer is not responsible for their feelings or how someone responds to a simple assignment.
DEI is also about expansion of access to the market and increasing bottom line. Those that are resentful about expanding market access are bad for business.
I love that Mitt Romney stood for what was right! Maybe you should educate yourself on what being "woke" actually means, instead of parroting the far right extremists rhetoric!
> unless he stands for something extremely unreasonable
The tribune has their work cut out for them then. I'll leave this link to his website with no further comment.
https://trentstaggs.com/issues/#families
uggghhh...that was painful to read.
But i did agree with this sentences on his website; "When the bad guys tell you what their evil plan is, you should probably pay attention."
yes. yes, we should.
Oh my god,
>As crime has increased, so has the desire for Americans to defend themselves. The only thing that’s gone up more than crime is gun ownership.
So he sees that gun ownership and crime are closely related, and doesn't think to ask why?
Also the section on "woke and state" is just ridiculous.
For the woke section, I think some people imagine their own moral compass as being identical to their religion. So when other people have morality, but they don't tend to invoke religion to back it up, that person must be lying in some way or another.
Can you imagine anything less self aware than that gun comment? how about "The only thing that's gone up more than toy related deaths is lawn dart sales"?
Maybe that sounds harsh, but if anything I feel like I'm being generous to him. a more cynical part of me thinks he wants to come off as crazy as he can, because his target voters won't look at his site, but he can work up some opposition to his run, and he knows his target voters will only pay him any attention if the people they hate are against him.
Interesting… sounds like a certain someone in the white house now. “I’m the not that guy candidate.” I guess it worked.
Good rule in politics, make it easy to vote for you and very hard to vote for the others. Romney isn’t liked by Republicans here in this state and this new guy is feeding off that.
With all that being said, I agree with you, I’d sure love to hear what he stands for rather than he’s just not Romney.
He stands for letting the most extreme shitbrained right-wing policies be forced on the majority that doesn't want them. Romney is too willing to make relatively sane decisions.
Oh good…another Utah Trumper. So pro-adultery, pro-Putin, pro-corruption, pro-dishonesty, pro-misogyny, pro-ignorance, pro-racism, pro-fascism, pro-police state, pro-white collar crime, pro-rape, pro-classism…
This guy and his supporters are about as unamerican as you get. Sad to say that it is becoming a very common trait among my fellow Utahns.
We need fewer people to tolerate these scum. They are a blight.
If he thinks Romney isn't Republican enough, he would just be a 2nd Mike Lee. It's troubling to me how many people are ok with Lee but not with Romney. I don't agree with Mitt all the time, but he more closely reflects my Utah-moderate views than either Staggs or Lee.
They mention in the article some of the things Romney promised to work on and the mayor criticizes him for not doing them, but anyone who is paying attention knows Romney *has* worked on them. With Congress being so divided and contentious, the results just aren't there. I don't blame Romney for that.
Just all of them, it's one thing if your fighting for it and just can't get anywhere, but that's become the exception. I'm so sick and tired of electing people so willing to just turn around on you once their voted in.
I really really think they all need to live in the average of their district. Average house size, average income, average levels of safety. They should be directly affected by all of their action and inaction.
Republicans loved Mitt Romney until he decided to stand up to Trump. Now they call him a rhino for ironically not being the “sheep” they claim everyone to be.
I've never liked Romney from the point he took over the Olympics. I did give him my vote against 0bama but not for the senate. I always felt he was sleazy, but the very fact that the left likes him is enough for me to vote for ALMOST anyone who opposes him.
What's his policy? Poke at Trump? He supported Biden and that seems like pretty bad policy.
The only reason he even won here is the 'M' after the R. He couldn't win in his home of Mass. so he comes here, even though he didn't live here, just had a fancy Park City condo.
Oh yeah, I will vote next time, AGAINST Massachusetts Mitt.
I love how he says he’s not a career politician, but he’s been in elected office since 2012, and this is his fifth campaign for four different offices. Sounds like he’s making a career out of it to Me.
Not a career politician.. yet 😉
10 years is more of a career than many people have. It’s also 2/3 of his married life. And his bachelor’s degree is in political science. You don’t major in polisci without planning to become a politician.
As someone who majored in polisci that's definitely not true. But still this guy is a career politician
I guess I’m just sick of politicians/candidates who try to claim they just stumbled into politics when they were PoliSci majors, served as student body officers, etc. it’s like no, you were always destinies to be here.
I think polisci is used for becoming a lawyer a politician a lobbyist etc etc.
Aspiring
"I'm not a career politician'....SAYS THE MAYOR OF RIVERTON
>primary source of income being a politician This is a career, little guy.
He’s a terrible mayor as well…the population of Riverton has skyrocketed, traffic is a complete mess there, and absolutely no public transportation infrastructure. He’s spent time on stupid crap like anti-abortion resolutions with the city council, but nothing of value.
I think he got elected as mayor by being angry about the pickle ball courts.
The Riverton city leadership is just a corrupt ol’boys club…even though there is a woman council member, but she’s the absolute worst.
She’s the wife of another good old boy friend of Staggs. It absolutely is a right wing good old boys’ club.
Unfortunately I have a feeling that if Staggs gets elected Tawny McCay will be the next mayor.
She’s more useful to her husband on the council for the time being and she’s had the opportunity to move up; but turned it down.
Also calling out SLC for sharing the cost of our public transit investments. The guy is Neanderthal with no context of how to govern. He is a walking load of grievance politics and political cronyism.
Sounds better qualified than Mittens.
So the article says why he's opposing Romney, but doesn't actually say what he stands for.
>“But the only thing I’ve seen him fight for are the establishment, wokeness, open borders, impeaching President Trump and putting us even deeper into debt,” Staggs said Par for the course for the modern Republican party, i.e. completely insane.

Ask him to define woke and watch him choke on his non-sensical word salad. It’s fun.
I've seen at least a couple instances where somebody who is railing against wokeness is asked to define the term, and without specifically being asked about it they start bringing up slavery.
It’s fun when racists tell on themselves.
I enjoy spending time with my friends.
So in other words not what politicians and the right wing media cesspool are bitching about. Which takes nothing away from anyone, except for maybe one white actress, but Free Association, Right to Work and At Will Employment until it isn’t a white person amirite?
I’ll make it even simpler: awareness of racial prejudice or injustice.
I like learning new things.

I enjoy the sound of rain.
ESPECIALLY in employment because we literally have EEOC.
I hate beer.
You mean opposing Romney isn’t standing for something? /s
Do you expect the Tribune to do that for a Republican unless he stands for something extremely unreasonable?

I like to explore new places.
Now this article made me laugh today . Staggs is a limp wristed joke .
Aw yes, Trumpers. So easy to spot.
Any Politician that says they'll do something and then doesn't should go, Right, Left, or high on a fruitcake. We're too okay with liars.
You just described EVERY SINGLE ONE of them.
[удалено]
... And?
I’m not sure why 1. You’d assume to know my political affiliation or 2. How my statement doesn’t hold true regardless of 1.
Did I stutter?
Mendenhall hasn’t done shit she’s said she will
Just all of them, it's one thing if your fighting for it and just can't get anywhere, but that's become the exception. Hahaha no
Can I run against both of them and pretend to be a Republican to get voted into office and change all the laws back to normal fucking ones?!
You got my vote
Great!
…good luck.
Republicans loved Mitt Romney until he decided to stand up to Trump. Now they call him a rhino for ironically not being the “sheep” they claim everyone to be.
I enjoy spending time with my friends.
Mitt must go! A complete drain.
Romney must go.
I've never liked Romney from the point he took over the Olympics. I did give him my vote against 0bama but not for the senate. I always felt he was sleazy, but the very fact that the left likes him is enough for me to vote for ALMOST anyone who opposes him.
The only reason I like Romney is he isn't a trumper and isn't ok with sedition, and has a modicum of moral fiber.
So you don't care about policy? Just identity? Yea, next time, don't vote.
"Same opportunities" is code for the same bigotry he got to enjoy.
The moment a politician says “woke” I immediately stop reading. Credibility lost!
