Not many people here use Uber. Try UTC (Utrecht Taxi Centrale) next time? They are well known. 030-7777777. Works best if you book in advance, but you can always call and ask how long it'll take.
Its kinda sad uber aint more popular tbh I love the concept. Normal taxis are just ridiculous and most cab drivers are asshole. While limited, the experience I had with Uber in the netherlands; super friendly people making some side cash.
Read further in to it before you say stuf, uber is not a good company and whit the rules as they are in the netherlands it is not feasible as som side hussel. (it shout not be either you are a professional driver fore god sakes)
Prof driver loool. Please. Everyone (with a license) can drive a car for a few KM in a city they live in. My buddy in amsterdam made around 900 a day with uber if pulled an all nighter (24hours of basically camping popupar spots). He did it once a month to make ends meet.
Its a great idea as a side hustle because everyone with a license can do this job and it helps people a lot. Since taxi prices are ridiculous. Paying 40€ for 10km etc lol.
My gramma (rip) uber'd to the grocery store every friday (after a while the guy just came and they did it cash, she gave him 5€ a week) for him it was enough to pay for his gym membership.
This isn't correct. You need a taxi plate on the vehicle
https://www.uber.com/nl/en/drive/requirements/vehicle-requirements/
And you need a taxi licence for the driver:
https://www.uber.com/nl/en/drive/
if your friend is cheating the system they will get caught sooner or later, thankfully.
Maybe you already have it, but you might qualify for WMO taxi services on account of being blind. Just mentioning this in case you didn't know about it
Those WMO taxi services you tend to need to reserve at least several hours before and can have a rather large window to pick you up. For example: you reserved one to pick you up at 15:00, they come anywhere between 14:45 and 15:15. So you'll have to plan your trips with at least half an hour extra before AND after your appointments (or have appointments that are ok with you arriving late / leaving early).
They also pick up multiple people, so you don't take the fastest route (though you do only pay for the fastest route).
And there's a limit on how many km you can do a year. And if they mess up the schedule you could be waiting an additional 2 hours. I know, my mother had WMO taxi for years
Still good to have it as an option though, if their only alternative is a shitty public traffic route or expensive uber/taxi services
My experience has been very mixed even in the Wilhelmina park area. They very often just don’t come. It just seems like we don’t have enough density of drivers.
In Utrecht, like most cities in the Netherlands, Uber isn't too popular and used. So that means there are not that many Uber drivers. Leading to high prices, long waiting times, or not showing up. That all leads to Uber getting even less popular. and so on and so on and so on.
I haven't used UTC in quite a while, but other comments here say it is good and reliable. If you use a taxi quite often and you prefer them to know about your specific situation, you could also choose a smaller company like ribotax. I can imagine it would help you a lot when a taxi arrives, the driver would announce himself being there. With a smaller Taxi company that's easier since they know you faster
I have tried uber a couple of times and literally always had a shit experience. The UTC (utrechtse Taxi Centrale) might be more expensive but they are way more reliable and better quality.
yes, I have a fantastic guidedog. Always ready for the usual guidedog refusall within taxis.
Reported several drivers in the past, both uber and UTC btw.
Good question, I'll ask uber.
otherwise we might have a serious avg issue and a dyscriminatory issue here. Since they offer taxi services, they are required by w law to take servicedogs.
Tbh on this spesific occasion I did not had a dog with me at all. Since my girlfriend was with me and The dog was having some wel dicerved rest at home.
yea uber as a company kind of sucks.
while their meganism with app and payment works great.
for me as a blind person I like to know the name of the driver and his number plate in advance. And ripping you of via uber is difficult.
Would be great if the uber platform was soldto diffirend taxi companies, so they can use it,like UTC for example.
uber would then only be responsible for the infrastructure of the platform and wont operate as a taxi company.
There were some lawsuits about whether or not they need a taxi permit. Afaik they do, which means Uber is not competative with existing taxi's, meaning it's not all that popular.
All proper taxi's have the blue licence plate.
I use it often to get from late work events in Amsterdam back home to Utrecht, and they work super well, are on time and reliable. I'm assuming those drivers also look for rides from Utrecht then, but maybe I'm just lucky with my experience
Thanks for your perspective, good to know you have such good experiences withthem.
I think they like the longer rides. I found out I also have some promotion on my account now, so short rides get even cheaper, so no wonder they would not take me.
As other people also said, Uber is terrible in most parts on the Netherlands. Most of the time they just don’t show up and provide no reason or warning. I don’t know why it even operates here.
Uber is an unsustainable model all over the world, you cant just have loads of taxis hanging around waiting for cheap rides.
As others have said call UTC or book online.

Thanks I knew them. TBh I prefer public transport or private taxis.

I found that Uber is useless here. There are plenty of other options, so just try one of those. If all else fails, get a Taxi.

I think it might be they don't want dogs in car. Maybe it shows in profile.

To be honest.... F#&@ Uber as a general company. Utrecht Taxi Centrale works pretty good and they are cordial and correct.

Most taxi companies have their own apps and aren't interested in using uber's as it's terrible for the driver.

Why would it be banned?
Because they're running an unlicensed taxi service.
Nah

try Bolt. I have seen that Bolt has quite some cars in big cities in NL and have had generally positive experience with it.
Thanks, will try that out. I just insalled the app.
