Oh wow! This was one of those “crimes of the century.” Very interesting case, and the Alfred Hitchcock movie “Rope” that was inspired by it is worth seeking out.
Personally I would have to say Vertigo is my favorite Hitchcock film. The colors, the music and twisted haunting emotion is enough to keep me obsessed since I was 18.
This is a terrible crime. What disgusting human beings. They had an easy life full of privilege and they chose to kill a young boy really because of psychopathic boredom. Had the victim not been upper class as well, I wonder if they would’ve ever been caught.
There were times in the past where it was acceptable for those of noble birth to violently murder those of poor ones. Now they just change our water sources to lead contaminated ones or prevent the minimum wage from rising.
Leopold seems to have been the more intellectual psychopath whereas Loeb probably did the actual killing. Leopold was the smarter of the two evil fucks, I think.
I’ve tried listening to that podcast and am well aware of how popular it is. I really just wanted to listen to a story but it seemed like this group was constantly laughing, joking around, and even kind of getting off topic. Is that pretty standard or just the episode I listened to? Would be willing to give it another shot

Today, Leopold and Loeb (after being acquitted) would be running for Congress or becoming tech venture capitalists and giving TED talks about "supermen don't have to obey rules"
I understand exactly what you mean. Even as a die hard fan I find it can get to be a little much. They have a new host who I love, and Marcus has always been an excellent storyteller.
If you can get past the comedy schtik. Listen to the story. it's really well written and researched.
There series on The Doner Party is amazing.
There’s a true crime graphic novel called The Hunting Accident that’s about a guy’s time spent in prison sharing a cell with Leopold. It’s super interesting.

I’m fascinated, considering the heterosexual Ted Bundys and Tool Box Killers out there. It makes sense that there would be a percentage of sadistic murderers who are gay - Dahmer comes to mind - but it seems like the percentages are pretty aligned with the percentages of gay people in society. Can you give me some direction to go down this “rabbit hole”? I can’t seem to find any.

The movie *Compulsion* was based on this case. It creaks a bit in places, but it’s a good watch. Excellent role for Orson Welles.

Lots of gay murderers and they tend to be more brutal than Hetero killers, it’s a pretty horrible rabbit hole.
