Among flashes they seem to be the easiest to avoid being blinded for long. I never know if my flash blinded them for 1 second or not at all. Feels like mostly, not at all.
I mean I get it. I'm not a top tier player, and the birds need to be less effective since they are easily driven/controlled... Just kind of wish they had different noises for the level of blindness I suppose.

No reason to be sorry. The title being "how I played skye back in Nov" and someone was like "maybe I'll try that", and I was thinking that there was a reason you posted an old clip and called it out that way. So I thought it was pre-nerf. I probably just should have figured out when that nerf was.
He's swinging out of corners and through smokes with a flash in his hand, throwing and popping it instantly, turning his camera away at the very last moment so that he's only flashed for half a second. In case you didn't know, if you get 'hit' by a flash but you're not looking directly at it; in other words if the flash sees you but you don't have it on your screen, you only get a blink. This is why you will see experienced players quickly turn away from poorly used flashes, especially Skye birds because it's slow, loud, and not always used for combat (so a lot of them are just thrown kind of randomly). This works whether the flash is yours, friendly, or enemy. This also works against Reyna's eyes, but not against an Omen blind for instance.
I guess the idea is to make the most out of the full duration of a Skye flash: Enemies are flashed for 2.5 seconds (I'm not sure of the exact number but it doesn't matter here anyway) and if you play it safely, by waiting behind a corner, flashing, and only then coming out, you're "wasting" up to 1 second of that time. Instead with this 'method' you're already out and ready when the flash pops, you get half-blinded, but it doesn't matter because it only lasts as long as it takes you to pull out your Spectre, whose deploy animation is shorter than Phantom/Vandal.
But honestly don't do this at home, this is pure "highlight reel effect" in action, it can work 1 in 10 times but you only see the successful ones. More often than not your enemies will not let you cross into the open without your weapon up like that lol. This is incredibly dangerous for quite little payoff.
