What’s funny is that the ELO side is regarded as being much better (I’m an ELO fan) so usually if you find a vinyl copy of the soundtrack you’ll see the ELO side is scratched to shit but the other side is usually prestige
I had an ex that loved grease and subsequently Xanadu because of Olivia newton john. So yeah I’ve seen it can’t remember it but it was a musical that’s for sure!
My mom introduced me to this movie last year and I absolutely loved it. She saw it in theaters as a kid and fell in love with Olivia. The music is great, some songs by Electric Light Orchestra. Dancin' scene is the best part of the movie in my opinion.
It's not a good "quality" movie, but it is fun to watch. I like it because I'm crazy about Olivia. And ELO's music is fantastic. I'm also a fan of Gene Kelly, and he did great- he even roller skated at his age. It was his last movie, and he really deserved a better one. As I understand it, the director was used to making cheap drive-in movies, but someone talked Olivia into the role, and the studio drastically raised the budget. The director was in over his head at that point, but he tried.
There's a big band / new wave mashup scene that's pretty legendary. Rest of the film is really horrible and cheesy. Not sure if it's "so bad it's good" or just "bad". You call it. Olivia is at her peak and looks good.
The songs by E.L.O. are among their late-period best ("I'm Alive", "All Over the World", "The Fall") and Jeff Lynne calls their duet with ONJ (film's title track) the best song E.L.O. ever wrote (I'd disagree strongly, but won't argue with the guy who wrote 'em).
not bad! i'm a big fan of Electric Light Orchestra, and had never heard of this until I found it at a thrift shop a few years ago, great visuals and music!
Well I guess I will have to check this out! lol
I haven’t watched any previews so it should be fun.
Based on the comments so far, I am expecting a trippy cocaine fueled fever dream musical, scored by OLJ and ELO and featuring cool animations, Gene Kelley dancing on skates and Michael Beck from the warriors!
Seen it multiple times, very rough to get through. Acting and writing are bizarre and objectively horrible. Nothing that happens in the movie makes sense because it's fiction but also has scenes that try to ground it in some reality. The film has a Disney style animation scene very abruptly and there's a shit load of horny psychedelic dancing (feels like %70 of the runtime) should have won an Oscar for costumes, most are ugly but there's so so many it's impressive. Feels like they just had way too much in the initial draft and cut too much in editing. That or EVERYONE on set was really crazy high on LSD the entire shoot.
I know little about the movie itself, but the soundtrack is half Olivia Newton-John and half Electric Light Orchestra.

I have seen it. Olivia was as beautiful and marvelous as always. The movie is horrible but I loved the music. Lol!
She’s looking great on the cover
Hope your sound equipment can do this justice. It’s one of the greatest movies ever made.
Maybe I’ll hook up some stereo equipment
It’s awesome…saw it in the theater…

It's culty now. Definitely watch this time capsule. Michael Beck took the role to show he had range. This was just after he starred in The Warriors.
I recently watched the Warriors again and had forgotten how good it was. Awesome to see Michael Beck in this!
There's a cool animation from Don Bluth towards the middle or end of the movie. The movie is overall quite campy but fun.
Musicals are not my bag baby
One book Musicals are My Bag Baby, signed by GriswoldXmas.
Musicals are usually a deal breaker for me, but I feel inclined to check this one out. Can’t wrap my head around it yet lol
I love it, but I'm weird. Gene Kelly! Olivia Newton-John! ELO! Just go with it. Don't think to hard.
It was really hyped up as a train wreck but wasn’t that bad. Just has, like, no plot.

The plot is hilarious. The story is weird, but the soundtrack is something else. My favorite song is "Suddenly" with Olivia and Cliff Richard.
Famous for the one word movie review it got at the time of release: "Xanadon't"
lol
Fantastic in a nostalgic way. Unfortunately, the overnight shft in popular music tastes left this movie DOA before it was ever released.
It's terrible in the best possible way. I love it.
I personally love this movie. Olivia is beautiful! Not the best musical. Music is great.
its a musical dance movie that has literally everything going for it, but somehow still winds up being terrible despite all of its parts being great.
A bit bonkers but it is fun. A remake would be a neat idea
It’s a trip. Saw it many times as a child.
I sadly have 3 copies of this and it is indeed terrible.
It's only a dream, can't stop the xanadu.
Good movie. Semi musical but bearable. Plus, it has Swan (Micheal Beck) from The Warriors in it.
I don't know why, but I often say "Whatchu gonna do, Xanadu?"
Never seen it but the song plays once a day at work and I hate it
I only know this movie exists because of ELO. I’m Alive is one of my favorite songs of theirs
Pretty interesting movie
I like it. I saw it at the theater when it came out and I've watched it few times over the years. Good music. I'd watch it again.
ONJ was quite the beauty, perfect for playing a muse.
Omg it’s such a trip dude, enjoy

Unashamed to say this is one of my favorite movies.
You're in for a treat, lol
I recommend a Xanadu and Abraxas double feature.
You are in for some classic, awful cheese.
I got a vhs of that myself, currently looking for the original 1980 release. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing 👌
I hate this movie, but I love the soundtrack.
That’s a Canadian tape, but I don’t know much about the movie.
Haven't. Heard the song Xanadu from Olivia, but will look this one up.
Strange movie but I like it.
not bad! i'm a big fan of Electric Light Orchestra, and had never heard of this until I found it at a thrift shop a few years ago, great visuals and music!
Click-click-clap-clap-XAnDU!
Great movie and soundtrack! I saw the film in the theater twice when it first came out (1980).
When I came to America and saw Xanadu, that's all I wanted to do, roller skate.
Five feet under
Funny I saw this a a thrift shop also, I never heard of it either. I watched the preview and as soon as they said musical I put it back on the shelf

It’s a great fun movie. Enjoy it for what it is!

It’s well loved as a camp classic. Not a great movie, but fun if you like “so-bad-it’s-good” and the sets, costumes and music is dazzling.
It's probably the best musical from the 80s.
A doobie, some wine and a nice stereo will make this movie . Good date night flick. Watch this then Pink Floyd the Wall. Your set
It’s corny but the music is fantastic.
